Description

Eastern Altepa Desert covers the eastern half of Zepwell Island. This sandy desert was once home of the Galkan civilization, but now only the Antican beastmen and a variety of monsters call this desert wasteland home. Adventurers travel through this region en route to Rabao and Quicksand Caves, and they fight upon its numerous dunes to hone their skills in battle.

Points of Interest

  • The Quicksand Caves can be accessed at H-8, H-10 and K-7.
  • The Teleport-Altep Crystal is located on the southern edge of G-6.
  • The outpost for this region is at F-10.
  • Parties can experience here from levels 30 through 35.

Map

The Map of the Kuzotz region can be purchased for 3,000 gil from Ashu Bolkhomo in Rabao.

Anyone have any good camp spots for a level 28 party? All of the spiders I saw on the south end checked tough. Could a 28 pt take the Anticans?

I don't think you can take Anticans at lvl 28, but you should try the beetles before you start taking the Ants. If you can take the beetles then maybe try ants, but i think the beetles (i think they are called sand beetles) will be a challenge and give good exp

The best way to pick up any remaining elements that your Carbuncle's Ruby needs to experience is to talk to the various weather checker NPCs. They tell you where you have a good chance to 'experience' the element.

If they say there will be a heat wave in Altepa for the next 3 days, that means Fire will be showing up in Altepa for the next ~ 3 hours.

When I was first running through Eastern Altepa Desert on my way to Rabao, I got lost pretty quickly... even WITH this map to look at to help me find my way. In an attempt to prevent anyone else from going through the same confusion and frustration I did, I'll just make a few notes about Eastern Altepa Desert that I've found useful:

First and foremost, the entrance to Eastern Altepa Desert from Korroloka tunnel is at the end of the small horizontal protrusion in the south-east corner of J-8.

Secondly, the Altepan Gate Crystal is (like many other important parts of the desert) located in a small trench. In this case, the Crystal is located in the trench at the south end of H-8.

Thirdly, the entrance to the Quicksand Caves from Eastern Altepan Desert is located at the end of the trench in the large offshoot directly north of the entrance to Korroloka Tunnel. The entrance itself is in K-7.

Lastly, and the thing that confused me the most, is that the northern exit to Western Altepa Desert is NOT where the arrow indicates. Rather, it is at the end of the tiny protrusion in the south-west corner of I-6.

I hope that helps to clear up any confusion about Eastern Altepa Desert. Good Luck!

lvling in altepa

i've been lvling here the past few nights after my brother suggested it. go there with a pt, it'll be really hard to find one regardless of your lvl (at least on ragnarok). at lvl 30-32 our pt of 5 members (2rdm, 1war, 1thf, 1whm) were taking on IT+ beetles with relative ease as long as u do renkei. if you don't renkei the battle may drag on to the point of mages running out of mana. RDM's out there..... use gravity on beetles. they have high evasion.

this is a great alternative, we we're lvling at the zone to Western Altepa (by the flag bearer) & were the only pt out there. we all lvld once within a 3 1/2 hour period. might not be as fast as other areas, but we were also 3 mages out of a 5 person pt. so we had major downtime at points.

sneak is the only spell u need to get around. very few mobs aggro to sight (manticores, gobs, lost souls). most things will aggro by sound. most things also link, beetles, spiders, dhamels, anticans. ....basically everything you'll fight will link.

anyways, everyone that has gone there with me pt'ing, falls in love with this place. no lag at zone, wide open spaces, u can see mobs coming a mile away. it's great!!.

Here vs. Kazham
# Jun 05 2004 at 10:28 AM Rating: Decent
Is this place a better option to go to than Kazham for the 25-30 range? Or would I be better off sticking to the jungles?
Love it!!!

Having a whm in the party who can cast tele-altepa is sweet love as the run from the tele point to rabro takes about 3 mins, and from there you can ghetto warp back to your HP if there is no BLM to warp II ya. So much more convient that a tele dem and choco back to jeuno.

Could someone give the <pos> for the Korroloka (sp?) tunnel entrance? I got lost out there with no map, and nobody in the area willing to give a lowly lvl 30 directions. :/
Thanks in advance

Route to Rabao
# Mar 28 2004 at 8:31 AM Rating: Decent
It's really easy I do it today, just follow korroloka tunnel, then when u exit, follow the wall to your right, then u enter in west altepa, then follow the wall again to the right, not first, but second cave u will find Rabao where u could buy map + chocobo.

Good luck, jsut cast sneak, it should be alright.

im not absolutly sure, but i think it was in that little cleft with the 2 exits and the curve on the map.

The weakest mob I saw there was "tough" to a lvl 28 (a desert spider). I saw a mob out there that *looked* similar to a cactaur, but it had a different name. If you still want to go, make sure you have some way to give yourself the sneak effect.

You can't get lost getting to this area. Korroloka is pretty much a straight shot (the map to Korroloka, and only Korroloka sells for 3k in Rabao). If you're heading to Rabao, however, it is exceedingly dangerous (one of the mobs in Altepa West killed my ~500 hp partner in 2 hits) and only recommended if you have a guide to help you find the city entrance. The map to this region (Altepa East, Altepa West, and Rabao) can be purchased in Rabao for 3k from one of the npcs in the auction house area.

At night, there are a large number of skeleton type mobs. There's also goblins, dahmels, worms, spiders, and cactaur type mobs.

Was that mob by any chance named Sabotender? I came out here looking to group around level 28 (found out people only take you if you're 29+ >.<), and saw one of those. Sabotender is the Japanese name for cactuar, so if that's what you saw, it was cactuar ^^. Strangely, they decided to call some "Cactuar" and others "Sabotender". Not sure what that's about.

Anyways, if you're coming here under level 30, bring a full group; you'll have trouble getting in one, as people hunt here into their upper 30's. It's certainly doable at 28-29, though, so if you're having as much trouble finding a place to level up to 30 as I am, definately check this place out.

Having sneak/invis/deoderize is definately a good idea. This region has plenty of aggresive, high level monsters, so caution is an absolute must. I had them on coming through the tunnel and while looking around, so I can't vouch for how safe this area would be without them.

Hope this helps.

route to East Altrepa

Go though the Zehfim(sp?) mines from Bastok Mines zone, through the gate. This will take you to Korrosomething Tunnels (sorry I'm bad with names). This tunnel leads to Eastern Altrepa. I believe it enters right at J-8 on the map, but I'm not completely sure.

How the heck do I get here? Seems like no one can tell me. I know I will probably get my butt kicked by a cactuar, but I still want to go.
