Description

The ice-covered Qufim Island sits directly north of the Grand Duchy of Jeuno. Traditional access to the island begins as a long tunnel that lies beneath the Sea of Shu'Meyo, beginning at Port Jeuno and opening up onto the frozen surface of Qufim, near the cliffs. Due to its being so close to Jeuno, adventurers often use this place to further hone their skills and prepare for dangerous battles by seeking out the Gigas and other monsters that make their homes here. However, the undead come out at night, often sending less experienced adventurers running to find safe haven until the light of day.

Points of Interest

  • "Worm Lake" at (H-7), a popular exp camp for quickly leveling from 19-22, since there are worms and crabs available. The only drawback are the three Bogies that spawn around the icy lake in the center.
  • Hieroglyphics for Dynamis - Qufim are found just inside the northeast tunnel from "Worm Lake", at (H-7)
  • Garrison can be done in this zone.
  • Dosetsu Tree and Trickster Kinetix can be found here.

Map

The Map of Qufim Island can be bought for 3,000 gil from Promurouve in Lower Jeuno or Rusese in Upper Jeuno.

if you got an extra 2k.. GET RERAISERS
they are very helpfull when your party wants exp... you die, you get re-raised, and back on track in no time..

periskos au laits are very helpfull when you are tanking, and steamed crab is worth EVERY gill

sometimes you just need the X-potions and hi-potions when chaining, so the whms wont have yo rest as much

TRY REALLY hard to get a high level white mage help heal in your party

this is the best set-up i have ever had... in qufim

I was able to do some soloing against the Dancing Weapons hanging around the ice tunnels as a 30WAR/15MNK, without using 2hr or any kind of healing in battle and usually ending up with 50 HP left (from 636, ouch). And these guys are EM to me (some DC). Battles usually take 3 minutes, and I have to run to the Rent-A-Room to heal up.

Dangerous? Yes, but I haven't died yet, so I guess it's alright. But definately not for everyone. I'm probably only able to get away with it because of my equipment and by using dodge (level your subs!), but people would probably argue that I'd be doing better with an axe instead of a sword. I don't intend to do this as a means of gaining experience, but rather a Kaiser Sword because I'm a quest *****. The drop rate sucks though.

I look on the Search and personally /tell all the Party Leaders ploitly asking if they have room for a XX THF/ XX WAR, I usually find a party within 10 minutes or less.
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 06 2004 at 4:33 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) and most people think your an annoying noob.. no offense but it's true.. they black list you, sorry man, i've had many party leaders say in chat that people are annoying them with /tells to join the pt so they are /blacklisting them.. besides its not like parties are going to sit around XPing with 5 people just because they can.. they will XP BUT they WILL also be /searching for new members so stop being so annoying with your /tell's and just wait.

# Aug 06 2004 at 7:15 PM Rating: Good
I'm afraid I am going to have to disagree on this. I'm not trying to **** anyone off, and this is my first disagreeing post on here...
I've found that as a THF, even some "higer" levels (aka, anyone not a newb) do not actively seek out thieves for their parties. If not for asking party leaders politely, I would be closer to 15THF instead of 20THF/10WAR.
My suggestion is to just be polite, and the worst they will do is say no. If they blacklist you after 1 polite tell, I don't think it's someone you would really want to PT with anyways.
Also, excuse me for being direct, but you are calling him annoying because he's not a "cookie-cutter" job that gets invited instantly?

I'm a taru blm, and I solo'ed alot of xp in quifim, at the lake, pausing during nighttime for the undead to take their victims, then resumed at 4am VD time. I died once, simply because I ran out of mp. I had to rest fully after every kill, but the xp was worth it, and I didnt have to worry about pt members dying, and the downtime from that. Worms are about the only thing blm/rng can solo very well, but they can solo these badboys. At first I was getting 200-250 xp from them, then it died off around 120xp, when I left to join a pt. You can doubt a blm soloing worms, but I know it to be a fact a taru blm that knows how his spells effect worms can kill these solo for a few lvls, until the xp gets poor. I only speak from personal experience.
RE: Exaggeration
# Jun 16 2004 at 12:11 AM Rating: Excellent
This is very possible actually...Any job with a powerful Ranged attack (i.e. BLM, RNG, etc.)

1) Find a worm that you can stand out of their spell range and move in slowly until you are in range for your attack.
2) Continue attacking until the worm starts a spell...then move back out of thier range (and yours)
3) After their spell is finished move back into range and rinse and repeat

Takes a while but if you play alot during non-peak hours you can get most of the worms to your self and from 20-25 they will easily give 150-250 per kill depending on your speed and chains. After that how ever the EXP drops drastically to 100-140 (which I'm doing now as a 26RNG/NIN)

I know your post is old, so it doesn't apply to you anymore, but this can be good advice for others...

This is a very general question that depends on many factors:
- How well do you know and use your spells
- How good is your equipment (do you have +attribute equipment or just the default stuff)
- How high are your stats? (are they just above the last level cap, or are they close to the current level cap)
- Is your subjob leveled correctly (sub should be at least 1 or 2 levels higher than 1/2 of main job level so it will increase as you hit the next 'even' levels with main job - this will depend on how many levels you intend to get of course)

The top of thread message says RDM21/BLM5. I would say level the BLM to 15, then go back and work the RDM up to 30.

If you really really want to solo with this character as is, I'd recommend the easier sections of Giddeus or Ghelsba - you will find many DC and EP mobs. The DC may kill you since subjob is too low, but you should be able to take down the EPs. Both of these areas have many worms, which can be great XP with less hassle if you take them on correctly.

u can do the whole mining, fishing, chopping wood thing on a regular basis which i find tedious but thats just my opinion

for me... even though my main interest are in mage classes, i am leveling thief to 15 for treasure hunter just so i can sub it to kill easy stuff for drops to make money; also i have made about 20k leveling thief to level 10 so far cux of all the stacks of pricey crystals like fire, dark, wind i get killing bats, fungaurs, orcs and goblins on top of the occasional item drops or steal. while 20k is pocket change to high level players, its enough to get me a spell or two since i am just over level 30 though that's soon to change looking at how much spells like phalance and dispel are gonna costs =P

There's a tunnel near the tower that will take you there, BD is really a level 40+ area, also the tunnel to get there is full of ugly beasties. Behemoths themselves are rare to spawn and very overcamped by high lvl JPs, but they aggro like nobodys business and theyre very fast, so if you have the luck to see one below 75 get well outtathaway

More precisely, the Qufim 'Outpost' is nothing more than a banner and 2 NPCs just standing outside the entrance to Delkfutt's Tower. It's quite unlike most of the other outposts you'll see in the game (which often involve a structure or two to make them more evident).

This is one of the more annoying supply quests to do, since Qufim is one of those 'Always losing it to the Beastmen' zones. At least on Siren.

You can't teleport there if the beastmen control the region. Otherwise you can teleport there just fine, if you meet the level restriction.

RE: outpost

You don't have to take the supplies to the outpost, you can drop them off with the gaurd near the cave also. As for teleporting, there's a minimum level (either 25 or 30). You can only teleport from Qufim to your home country if they control it, but you can go the other way no matter who is in power (even the beastmen), albeit for 4 times the regular fee.

A quick reference:

(1) Watch out when running at night. Dancing Weapons and Giants always aggro, while Wights and Banshees only appear at night. Worms aggro but cannot move so you can safely run away (they are also the easiest monsters). NIGHT HOURS: 2000-0400. Try to avoid running during this time.

(2) Soloing at 20 sounds like trouble to me here. I don't THINK so. I mean, you can probably nuke Worms, but that takes too long, and you'll invariably get aggroed by some train.

(3) If you are a WHM or RDM, levels 20+ are fine here (in terms of finding a party). Otherwise, levels 21 and up are when you are more likely to be invited. Get that one extra level in the Valkurm Dunes (if it's convenient), it'll save you a little party searching frustration when you get to Qufim.

(4) Dying is not a big deal here. Unless you find a very safe spot (like near the Delkfutt Tower), it'll happen sometimes. But, there are usually lots of high-level WHMs around AND the mad EXP you'll make here will more than make up for it. Expect to easily make 100-180 EXP when you first start fighting here (if you have a reasonable group), with almost no healing stops.

(5) The pond area is a wonderful spot (Clippers and Worms galore), but ONLY in the day. Banshees will spawn at night and kill you.

(6) Pugils link. Crabs do not link.

(7) Fish in the Southern sea and die: You WILL fish up a Pugil, and other Pugils WILL link.

Hope that helps!

Mages can go to Qufim at 19, melees should wait until 20 at least. Trying to get to 21 in the dunes is difficult for two reasons: 1) XP drops off post 20 dramatically. 2) A lot of people, when they ding 20...want to run to Jeuno to start the chocobo quest. So you'll be hard pressed finding a party willing to stick around post 20.

Land worms con IT to my BLM sub at level 19, but I have yet to find a worm that will give capped XP to a 19-20 party. Still, they're easy to take down and the only problem you'll have is keeping everyone safe when you're running from worm to worm.

Dying is a big deal *anywhere*. No country on my server can manage to keep this zone under control longer than a week because people are too careless and get themselves killed, allowing the beastmen to regain control of the area. This prevents crystals from dropping (yes, some people don't realize this)!

Once you get into the 23-24 range, too many parties are content with chain crabs for only 50 exp, even when a 3 person skill chain practically kills the damn things.

I pretty much agree with all of that. Nevertheless, it's a fact that the density of aggroing monsters in Qufim will pretty much guarantee you'll die sometimes, careless or not. One just has to accept the fact that Qufim will never be controlled by non-beastmen for any serious period of time. The fact that it's the first truly hard area in the game also will guarantee lots of dying; my post simply prepared people for this (or tried to, anyway).

I wouldn't recommend soloing BLM anywhere on Qufim.

If I'm not mistaken they've actually upped land worm regeneration (if not all mob regeneration) so that low-lvl BLMs can't cheese immobile worms this way (Especially in Korrolaka Tunnel).

The other problem is that you won't find many worms to solo, since the ones at the entrance are generally camped by entire 20-lvl pts and the ones beyond the entrance are surrounded by aggro monsters that will eat a solo 20blm for lunch.

The lesson: stick to a pt at lvl20blm on qufim. They have the easiest job in the game.

my level 29 rdm was just a bit of xp short of 30 so i tried soloing the worms in qufim real quik but its a big hassle. u can always stand back a bit and start with a silence so they cant attack(cux ur too far) and cant cast either. but i use up my whole mp tank before it dies and it likes to cast rasp(which keeps u from regenning) and bind to keep u from running away as soon as it can cast again. this game is geared towards grouping as many will tell you, especially at lower levels.

What they did was restore the mobs full health if you disengage to heal (out of range) for more than about 2 ticks.

But any half-decent BLM can still solo Tough worms easily for 120-200 XP (depending on high/low def and evasion), especially in Korroloka. Just watch out for links.

You're probably right about it not being such a good idea on Qufim though.
