Description

Mount Yuhtunga rises above the trees of Yhoator Jungle, but within the mighty volcano are numerous tunnels filled with goblins, bombs, dragons and more. The inner sanctum of this large mountain is known as Ifrit's Cauldron.

Adventurers can enter Ifrit's Cauldron from two places in Yhoator Jungle. Inside, adventurers can move through vents and caves, occasionally blocked by lava spouts and ledges. Paths circle around the fiery crater at the center of Mount Yuhtunga. Deep within the caves is a chamber holding a protocrystal said to house the mighty avatar of Ifrit.

LUCKY

Wow, i've been trying this place for a few days now, hoping for adaments
I kept getting nothing special, few colors, iron ores, iron sand etc. and then i got an orich
me being uneducated, didn't realize it was worth more than Adamament, i thought it was worth like 30k, so i was excited BUT NOT NEARLY AS excited as i should have been
I checked the AH, and it was 150k! i nearly fell off my chair and fainted, I was jumping up and down for ever.
My advice, keep trying if you don't get something at first, oh, and i only have the field boots and the mitts, the leg piece doesn't seem to add to mining can anyone comfirm this?

Correct; Only the Tunic, Boots and Gloves boost your Mining luck, the Hose only helps logging and harvesting.

Plain and simple...this place sucks. Don't go in here unless you have a death wish. Marched through here for ZM5 tonight and everyone died at least once. Granted we had an alliance and it was bound to happen, but seriously is tough to avoid aggro. I brought 2 stacks of prisms and oils, and ran out of both before we reached our destination. Down in the basement every cons IT++ to a lvl 66. You have to use prisms because bombs aggro to sight and magic, there's no way around it. This place is loaded with bombs.

I mine here often. Haven't died from aggro in months (when Im done mining I like to suicide on the Ash Dragon and warp back to Jeuno, someday my lvl 20 WHM will beat him ^^) and Im very surprised that a stack of sneak oils and prism powders could not get you to your desired destination. Sounds like your leader didn't know his way around. Next time I suggest putting a shout out to all miners with a reward asking for one of them to lead you around. I know it like the back of my hand now ^^.

First Mining Point, First Pickaxe, First Strike, Adaman Ore! That's enough to make me come back even tho I died. The ores are 80k in Jeuno and occasionally 120k in Bastok. So being the hopeful one...I put it in Bastok =P

Hopefully, more luck will be with me.

???s and Eruptions
# Sep 11 2004 at 6:49 AM Rating: Excellent
I mine here frequently, but i have found 2 ???s in one room and have found no info on what they are for. They are in part of the tunnel on the way to the wyverns. One of them is on a bridge over the lava and the other is on a rock nearby. Any info would be appreciated. Also today i saw the volcano "erupt" in that a huge column of lava came up from the center. I don't know what this means at all, but there is a spot at the bottem of Ifrit's Cauldron in the spot near the drop to get to the cloister. I think they may be related and i may try to click the spot during an eruption. Any information on either of this would be very helpful.

I thought the Altar of Ashes was used for the Bomb Queen but i might be wrong. I did some research on mysterytour and the spot near the cloister is used for upgrading the relic staff. Also one of the ???s is used for the staff weaponskills quest. I found another ??? but I'm not going to bother investigating until later.

The ??? are to spawn Bomb Queen who drops Bomb Ring (+75 HP -75 Fire) and the Eruptions are just an effect as far as I know.

You get the Map from the Coffer Chest. You need to obtain the Coffer key which is droped off most mob's. The best guy's to kill for it are the bomb's and Opo-Opo right by the entrace.

Can someone kindly - and descriptively - tell me how to get here from Kazham? I am going to go mining, but I do not know the way there, and running around the Elshimo jungles isn't my idea of fun. ; ;

I will try my best from memory....

-Leave Kazham
-Follow the left wall till you see a open area
-In the open area, fall through the hole...
Go through the passages untill you find your way out of the cave...(Only 1 exit)
-Follow the path till you see a glowing tree and other weird vegatation...stay up above, and follow the right wall.
-Follow the wall till you see a cave with a tree in the middle of it.
-Folow through the cave into Yhoator Jungle.
-At the end of the cave, turn right, and then left at the funny tree.
- Follow the left wall till you get to another area similar to Yuhtunga (More weird trees down below)
-Turn right when you see them, and stay on the upper area.
-Once you are in a narrow area, follow the left wall, untill you adventually hit the Ifrit's Cauldron Zone.

Long, but its how I get there....I hope...

To start off this I just wanna say do not read this guide unless; 1)You have total and complete patience. 2)You have no problem with dieing alot.
You don't alway's die, but to start your gonna die alot.

Now, I've been mining in Ifrit's for about 5 months now. In all that time, I've made alot of cash, and Die alot of time's. It's not easy, infact to start its almost impossible, but once you get it, you get it.

Tools:
To start off your gonna wanna have a lower lvl character. I use my Blm's Sub, lvl 33 whm. When I started the whm was lvl 25. You want a lower lvl character so when you die, you don't loose to much exp. Having the spell's, Sneak and Invis help's Alot. Try and go Rdm or whm, low as possible with Invis and Sneak. Then your gonna want a lvl 9+ Nin for Tonko, unless you wanna pay a fortune for prism powder's. 4 stack's of pick's, Stack of "Shinobi-tabi"(for tonko) and your set. You can bring extra Powder's and Oil's if your unsure, as well as extra pick's.

When to mine.
Best time's I've found to mine is when the moon is 75% - 75% or 25% - 25%. Full moon and New Moon are best. I've found New moon to be better then Full for a reason I can't figure out.

Where to go.
Befor the Flame Sprout there are around 5 point's. They seem to break more pick's although I have got Adaman and Orich from them so there not that bad. After the Flame Sprout how ever, there are many many point's. If you go and there's no one in there (Which never seem's to happen anymore these day's) your going to have to check them all to keep them spawning. If you do go with someone else you can work it out, keep them in one place you in another, that way you get them all.

What to expect.
You can get Adaman or Orich right away. Both sell for 100k+(most of the time). So usualy if that happen's, your in the money. Although, As I'm writing this post I'm taking a break from 2 hour's of mining (0% New moon+) and I have yet to find anything but colored rock's. You can mine there and find more then 1 Adaman. My biggest find was 6 Adaman in 3 hour's. Although don't expect to find something good every time. If you keep at it all day, Say from 25% to 25% you can make alot of cash(500k+), although it is hard to stay alive.

The survival Game.
Mining in Ifrit's is Hell. You constantly loose Sneak and Invis when you need it the most, and everything agro's to everyone no matter what lvl you are. The reason you need Tonko the most is because the largest amount of monster's in there are bomb's. They agro to Sight and Magic. you can be off invis standing right behind one but if your with in a mile of one and you cast magic, your dead. Bat's are realy annoying to because they agro sound. There are tunnel's with bat's and bomb's together but the mining point's in those tunnel's are the best. You can cast Tonko infront of a Bomb's face and they wont agro. They can't detect Nin magic so unless they change that any time soon, Tonko is your friend. When sneak ware's try and get as far away from bomb's as you can befor you cast Sneak again, athough they dont agro to sound so you can run around them with it off. You can get closer to bat's with sneak off then you can to bomb's when casting sneak.

The Flame Sprout.
This is where I die the most. I've been mining in there for age's and I can get around easy, but the Flame Sprout is unpredictable. There are two bomb's, one that hang's around the sprout, another that roam's around the area. This is where Tonko play's a key roll. While waiting at the Flame Srout, sneak will probably ware off. If invis starts to ware, you can just cast Tonko, you dont even have to move away from the bomb's because they dont agro to it. The Flame Sprout takes around 5 mins to go down, dont bother wasting your cash on Ice Cluster's to turn it off, just wait for it. I usualy use this time to heal MP. After the Flame Sprout you can go left, then stop at the corner, but you have to put sneak back up to go farther. Stuff agro's to sound farther on. There are 3 other Flame Sprout's that I know of. There's one near an entrance (When I say near an entrance, I mean like right there, you'll know it when you see it) and two down a Tunnel deep in. If you use the one near the Entrance, your missing mining point's so dont bother with it unless your in a rush to get deep in. The two other's are for people who know the place so dont worry about them.

Rule's of the Road.
Do Not...Do NOT....Steal other people's mining point's. If there standing next to one, /poke em first then /point at the mining point. If its safe to mine and they dont move then /poke em one more time, If nothing, go for it. If you steal people's point's they will steal your's and then the fun is lost. I dont get people taking my point's often but when it happen's its REALY annoying. Although usualy those people arnt very popular in the game to start. Dont be one of those people. Also if you see a party killing stuff and you get agroed try not to train stuff to them. It hurts.

Where it's at: The Money.
If you REALY want ALOT of cash, you can get it. One of my friend's Mined in there for 1 week, 6 hour's a day and made around 3 million Gil. I mine in there a couple hour's a week to pay for what ever I want to buy the next week. The Price does go up and down for Adaman and Orich but it doesnt look to be going lower then 80k each(That could change). Try to remember, when you get Adaman or Orich and you sell for Alot lower then the listed price in the AH you probably wont be able to sell your next batch for much more. Try and sell at the listed price so that you and I can keep making money on this.

What you'll find.
For anyone who has mined in other place's, you'll know what it's like for rare drop's. In Ifrit's, Adaman drop's about as often as Gold or Plat ore's in other mining spots. Orich is alittle more rare. Although, just because your mining in the best and most difficult place to mine in the whole in-game world doesnt mean you wont get garbage drop's. Your still gonna get Flint stone's, and Iron ore, Plus a few other lower priced item's. You wont get pebble's though(Thank god). Keep at it though because instead of Gold your gonna find Adaman, and that's worth it.

In the end.
It's hard work mining in Ifrit's but the payout is big. I cant find any other way of making Good money no matter how hard I try. If you try it out and die over and over again just remember what I've said here and try to follow the guide. Dont give up, I died 6 time's on my first day with my Blm untill I learnt how to do it well, but I kept at it and it paid out. I still die but as I'm using my lower lvl whm so it doesnt hurt as much. Keep at it, that's the best advice I can give anyone.

If I realise I screwed up on this post, or I have anything New to add, I'll edit it. If you guys see that I've missed something, tell me.

Okay, I don't currently have a Mage high enough to do this. So, my question is, would it be worthwhile to mine here using only Tonko and silent oil? Or will it just get so expensive that it makes it not worthwile?

If not, I might beg my gf to lvl whm/rdm while I lever her thf/war. Or, maybe I should just suck it up and do it myself! lol

For me, because I've Mined in here for a very long time it would be worth while just useing sneak pot's and Tonko. But for you, No. You at least need the spell sneak, which is pretty low lvl.

So, basically what you mean is - its doable, but only if you really know the area. Which I don't.

Thanks. I'd like to mine there, but I'll have to wait a little while.

From exprience i would like to say you are right Mining in the cauldron IS HELL. And to all who think they got what it takes to mine here PAY ATTENTION to your surrounding. i have watched many miners die because they didn't notice the bomb behind them or the wern't aware that their sneak and invis were about to leave them. SO don't get distracted mining here OR YOU WILL DIE.

In order to pass the Flame Spouts, you have to trade an Ice Cluster to it.

Or just sit tight for 5-10 minutes and wait for it to go down on its own.

Hola, I have started becoming a usual at Ifrit's since I got whm to 20 and nin to 9 just to mine here. To new and experienced miners...
1) Do not use Sneak Oils / Prism Powders, way too expensive, lvl whm to 20 and nin to 9 for Tonko: Ichi in my opinion.
2) Work in tandem with one or two of your LS buddies, it helps so much. For anyone who is familiar with mining in Ifrit's, it can often be quite difficult to drop down to the lowest floor then work your way back up trying to clear points. With a partner or two, we divide up the territory and let each other know when we kill a point to alert the others of possible spawns coming.
No ground-breaking info here, just suggestions

Got an adaman and darksteel in about an hour of mining ^^ Will return tomorrow with some buddies and find some more.

Doh minig here is NOT an easy thing. Me and 3 other LS friends made our way there the other day to poke around. All of us are lvl 51. I knew we were in trouble when the anon guy wearing some lvl 72 gear cast invis and sneak on himself to get around. So our lvl 51 blm died while mining because a Volcanic gas aggroed him when invis went off and it came close. They seem to have a pretty good range of sight. I died while waiting for him to come back and sneak and invis us out of there because a Dire bat popped right next to me come night time. Definitely a fun place to look around in but I am not sure how much serious mining u can get done in there with the aggro you will constantly get from the bats and bombs.

yes getting adaman ores is very much possible i have gotten about 4 of them, and 2 orichalcum ores so far. Take your time and plan when you go mining (i usually go when all the Japanese players are asleep.)

i was just wondering i heard rumors that the elemental ores can be mined here, but i know its from a BCNM can anyone confirm if they can be mined?

I was here mining for a couple hours hoping to strike it rich. Out of about 50 swings using field gear I got a lot of sulfur, bomb ash, and iron ash. No rare ore><. I went as ninja so i was able to stay invisible with tonko but was spending 700 gil for each silent oil used. The bombs here aggro by sight and they are the most common mob so if you have a way to invis yourself you should be good for the most part. I didnt make any profit but it was pretty fun exploring the area and I got to take some pics of the ash dragon. Have fun mining and good luck!

"I have been here...Ifrit is in. However do not enter unless with a completely maxed party of 18 70/35...perhaps now it will be easier with the 70 cap taken off. Ifrit defies all possibilities of hard; I do not think any have defeated him yet. My party was close but no such luck. Take *extreme* care in here; do not solo unless you wish for a quick and painful death, and no not come in here at all unless you have your AF armor and have all level and skill capped."

.......... the pt that you need for EVERY summon quest, (discounting Leviathin and Fenrir) does NOT need to have all 70+s.... ONE preferred 70+ PLD to tank, then the rest of the pt can be 50-60, higher being better. Furthermore, you cant HAVE an alliance fighting summons...... one pt only. On top of that, a LOT of people have beaten him.... <sigh>

to those summoners, these quests are not that bad, just construct a smart pt with a high tank. My normal pts looked like this:
WHM WHM BLM SAM DRK PLD(lvl 74)
only PLD was high lvl the rest of us were 50-60
another pt:
WHM WHM BLM BLM NIN PLD(high lvl)

its not that hard, hardest part is finding a tank, there are plenty of people wanting summons that you can fill your pt with once you have a tank.

Why always a Paladin tank? Paladins are not all they're made out to be...

A high level ninja works well, as does a high level monk. I have a few whispers and all the avatars except Fenrir... and not once had I partied with a Paladin to get them. (Not once had anyone come even remotely close to dying, either. And my MP has never dropped below half, even with the occasional Holy MB.)

Oh yah. Cause a Ninja or Monk can get aggro back when a BM uses some AM or a RNG blows of a sidewinder.

Now you can call me a level 75 nub, with all my avatars and Fenrir.

But guess what.. I still never had a Paladin tank any of my 40+ avatar fights. In fact, I once had a DRK/NIN tank! And once I dual-tanked as a WHM with a RDM! Fancy that, Mr. Smarty-pants!
RE: sigh...
# Jan 04 2005 at 2:41 AM Rating: Decent
Big deal, you never had a Paladin Tank. Big deal, you've had success with stupid tanks such as Dark/Nin. (Actually not too stupid if your party can do uber damage, it might work well). I wouldn't recommend that for most parties. About all you're showing me is that you can get by w/o Paladins. No, Paladin tanks aren't 100% manditory, but in my experience, good Paladins can hold hate through almost anything, and it's ok because they can take a good beating. Too bad there are so many poor Paladins running around though. I've seen some parties where mob hits everything EXCEPT Paladin, b/c Paladin is an idiot.
