Well I activated the quest,and rode the ship about 5 times before someone told me that the pirates were going to come this trip.(Idk how he could tell,but he did)As soon as I saw them spawn,I went to work on the first Crossbones I saw.I went into my equipment to change some stuff around,and by the time I came out,I was down to half health.I hadn't noticed that the Blackbeard had spawned along w/ the others and he was too strong for me.I wish I woulda just stood back then I could've just pulled one at a time.

I was thinking since the Pirates attack only when some one has the quest activated on the ship, could u ride the ship wen ever and have the pirates attack all the time? And get the sand charm then never give it to the lady who gives u qst...im gonna have to try this out some time...so bassically u could rise hell to low lvl ppl riding the ship... >.>

ok so last night i tryin to get the sandcharm for a friend and my self. i wasnt expecting the invasion until our way back from Mhaura(sp?)the music changed and it was a blast she was a 42rdm/thf i was 46rdm/blm and there was another guy he was a pld probably about low mid 50's by his armor we cleared the boat out pretty quick and got the drop like the second crossbone too. my guess is maybesome1 on board has to have the quest open for invasion?? i hope to do it again it was fun very diffrent ^^ btw i dont think thier that high a lvl everything checked as weak2be and my friend only agroed the other guys not the crossbones wierd...

I just got killed by one of these guys 2 days ago. I was 39thf/19Rng at the time. I hid in the captains area until they seemed under control and then came out to try fishing some more. There was one standing right behind the door and it aggro'ed me. I was getting the best of it until it used blood saber and sucked 70hp from me and 4 other people standing around. Someone cast cureIII on me and I almost killed it again when it used blood saber for a second time. That was all she wrote for me. I think my def was about 142 and it was hitting me for 22 to 45 about.
ok here is MY idea of their level and why..
i was a 48rdm/24drk and i was on the boat and well i was the highest on the boat so i figured KILL EM ALL and let god sort out the rest! and well the CROSSBONES that i can tell are within lvl 40-45 because when i was done fighting each one i had anywhere from 100-200hp left and no magic even with refresh always on and i have fought about 20of these and have not had a single sand charm drop

I've been on this ship several times and true i also haven't seen the pirates in a long time, only once have i seen them which was the first time i took the ship to selbina.
Well here goes (its only a theory i'm not certain............... so don't snap out at me if i'm wrong) I think the pirates only attack the ship once and that is when it is you first time on the ship, well that seems about right i'm sure everyones first trip taking the ship was attacked by pirates am i right??? and if you were to see the pirates more than once attacking your ship during the trip it may be possible because there is someone new on the ship.
So what i'm trying to say here is that maybe it is possible, the pirates only attack when there are first timers taking the trip????

nice theory....very wrong though, the pirates spawn when u have a corresponding quest from mhuara activated...to find the sand charm for some old lady or something...at night(i think) during rainy weather (Also speculation) but for sure someone has to have the quest open.

I've had the pirates spawn on me 3 times, 2 of the three i was going to mahura, 1 time me and a friend were the only people that I saw on the boat, (and neither of us had a coresponding quest), and the first time they spawned on me was about the 4th time I took the boat.

No, it is as others have said... possibly random, but definitely not just your first trip.
On my first trip, I think I was only 15 - no chance to even think of getting a sand charm then.
I didn't see pirates until at least the 10th ride or so several months later.
Somebody gave me a bump down for this?? wtf

I'm a lvl 38 DRK and have used the boat many times hoping for pirates but nothing yet.
I want to know if i'm wasting my time or will i be able to beat them?

This doesn't look like the BLM crossbones. Usually BLM-type undead use scythes, while WAR-type use clubs/shield.

[white]Guys...not that serious. They check as regular mobs, though listed as NM's. Sure, some may say that when they check it, they con as "Impossible to guage", though im not saying their wrong, ive never met a monster on the ship thats an NM except the Sea Horror which guages as "Impossible to guage".

Me and my friend were on the boat when [irates come. So we go up deck and take a look. Then we spot on that reads EVN. We were only lvl like 25 and 28. We started to fight him and our hearts were about to burst out. We both 2 houred him and killed him. We actually got some xp too lol.So they r not around lvl 40 cause im lvl 28 and it read EVN.

i took out these guys at lv 41 and they were easy prey - desent challege to me at that lv so they have to be around lv 34-38

The photograph shown here is incorrect. The Crossbones armed with a club and carrying a shield are the warrior types, while the ones carrying a scythe are black mage types.
You put BMG, I am pretty sure it's BLM unless they added a new class :p
Not all MOBS 9levels+ above you will check impossible to enguage... i was traveling to windurst as my lvl 1 mnk and goblin gamblers checked as Incredible Tough High Evasion High Defense... they are 30+

They are 25-35 or so im a 44 Pld all are weak to me except the Wights which are easy prey hope this helps.

How you will know: well first ull start hearing some badass music^^ then ull see another ship that means run up the stairs and hide behind the captains thing ull see a ship with 3 summoner casting some spell and like 10 cross bones appear on deck...as long as ur at the top of the stair they wont agro you

LEVEL 50 NO FU**ING WAY! As i said before i was lvl 28 and they read EVEN MATCH. If you want to fight these guys be in your 30's. The Ship Wights might be over lvl 40 tho.

You should really have read the post better - he said 35-50. That means that some COULD be as high as level 50. It might be that it's more like 25-50 who knows? CERTAINLY not you. Unless you work for SE? I doubt that, considering you're so incredulous at the level range. So, rather than making your self look any worse than you already have, just take it for what it's worth. Someone else's opinion/experience.

[Navy][/Navy]i would like to let u all kno that if there are ne disputes over if it is an NM or not, it isnt, i get my ship taken over believe it or not, mroe than half of the times i go on i, normally it will be from selb to mhuara, and if the ship gets attacked by pirates u will always fight crossbones, therefore, making it impossible for THEM to be a NM.
