For those that have never seen a pirate attack and your imaginations are running wild it's like this. There are no cutscenes, but another exact replica of the ship comes up and pulls right next to your ship with three cloaked smn type humes standing on the edge. No sky turning dark, no hell washing over the deck or anything. Everything is the exact same except now another ship is right next to you.

Anyway, they do their summon motion and a few crossbones appear on deck, maybe three. When you kill one off, they summon pose again and another one appears. If there's a smn hume on the other deck that's wearing what looks like a Vermillion Cloak, Blackbeard or Silverhook will appear, again with no cutscene.

They'll stay on for a while, then they despawn in a little warp-like vortex. The smn turn around and the ship pulls away.

Also, the music changes during the whole ordeal. Not quite as intense as BCNM music or empty boss, but it let's you know there's badguys on board.
Watch out geez

I can't find a way to express my frustration against those damn things and the people on the ship that aren't take care. I was quietly waiting with my fiancee that the skeletons leave when all of a sudden some low lvl attacked one and got linked like crazy. He dropped like a fly and suddenly the skeleton rushed at me (I am lvl 36 THF/WAR) and my fiancee tried to came to my help despise her low lvl (lvl 21 BLM/WHM which isnt her main). She casted thunder and she got the crossbone on her and die shortly. Myself I was left by myself against 3 crossbones and I kept calling for help since there was very high lvl people on the ship. But nothing I died. Soon after Silver Hook jumped in and they started fighting it. 3 high lvl people died from horror cloud and they kept moving around with it so a mithra died from it. I wish people were more careful aboard. Finally those things were easy prey so this is another frustration since I was barely damaging them but I already know undeads have some advantages

I've benen RAIDED!
# Nov 13 2004 at 6:22 PM Rating: Decent
I just experience my first raid yesterday. I was a 38 rdm/ 18 thf. Most con'd EP and one or two of another undead mob was DC. I killed 2. The first one i saw and killed i got the Sand Charm drop. Kinda cool has +5 def to three kinds of magic. My 2 lvl 30 friends were on the boat took on one of them but got linked by 2 more and both ended up dieing. a lvl 49 or so RDM came down and helped me polish them off after a 24 war died. was definately fun and i look forward to the next time they board MY boat!

Have encountered pirates a total of 5 times in my adventuring career - twice as LV20 and below, the first time I snuck upstairs to catch a look at them and the second time I stayed huddled belowdecks in the corner, rocking and hoping they wouldn't get me. Third and fourth times were on an LS boat party - basically my entire LS rode the boat for three hours or so slaughtering things, and we got pirates back-to-back. Dropped 3 Sand Charms the first time, 4 Charms the second time, and a boneworker's dream of bone chips. The fifth time I was riding the ferry with my best friend (45WHM, myself 43THF) while she fished and I synthed globes and jellyfish. About the second ride, we get pirates and proceed to pwn them all over the place, getting about 6 of the 12 spawns. Dropped one Charm and some bone chips. No Ice Spikes yet! ;_;

Also, for the curious: yes, if you pay attention, there are three summoners on the pirate ship who summon the Crossbones and Ship Wights into being. If you go to Norg and talk to some NPCs, you find out that the pirate ship belongs to the denizens of Norg, and that they use forbidden magic to summon the undead when they attack the ferry.

Me and my fiance were riding the boat one day. Her only thought when we got on was like..."Wow..It's really foggy ^.^" Shortly after the music changed and we were a little panicky at first. Ship appeared and we were like YAY PIRATES!! She was a lvl 31BLM/10WHM and I was a 32DRG/15THF (brought a Spiked Club+1 to cause more damage then my pokie) and they were dropping like flies. The musis is awesome at the time you fight them. Its loads of fun if you have the strength to kill them. But watch blood saber....attack killed Precious (my gf) twice (she got raised and ran for the door while i was still fighting and a Crossbones close to the door used it....needless to say she didnt make it....only her top half did). Of course more people around is always a good help too. Have fun killing them, i need to find time to go do it again ^.^

My Ls friend and I were on the ship fishing. We wanted to see the pirates really bad. But after about 5 trips I had to go with nothing but a Sea Monk and a Bronze Box. ;_;

GO BLM
# Jul 08 2004 at 7:30 AM Rating: Decent
I'm 50BLM/25WHM and last night i pwned a whole boat of these things. IT was me and a level 45ish SAM, and a bunch of level 20's. The music changes, and we tell them all to run below deck, and then we party up. I was using AerogaII like it was going outta style. Total take was 2 scrolls of ice spikes and one sand charm, I took one scroll and the charm and the SAM took the other scroll. Was my first pirate attack, enormously fun. I gotta ride the boat more often.

So what on the ship drops the ice scrolls exactly, Crossbones blm? Or is it just random?

if you pull the undead from the top of the stairs only one undead should be heading in your direction - the one you just pulled. if you are in the mid to upper 40s in your level, you need to check the toughness of the ship wight before deciding on how to pull the crossbones - if it checks EP you will be using a ranged weapon from the top of the stairs and luring crossbones one by one; otherwise you can walk freely across the deck and simply pick the mobs you want to kill.

Sand Charm is a RareEx item, so keep this in mind, and its involed in a quest in Mhaura that requirse a lot of windy fame (somethign that I still lack, despite the fact I was able to unlock the teleport-mea quest)
I got my revenge...

So i was a monk when i first started this game. me and my friend were on our way to windurst for some reason i've forgotten. Weird music starts playing, i see another ship, it was pirates.......i was only an innocent lv 13 monk trying to help out. It hits me for 200 damage, i realize its way too tough and it hits me again....i die :\. I'm totally pissed and swear vengence on them. I get to lv 30 monk, i get sick of it, i switch to rdm i'm a lv 30rdm/15white mage. I see the pirates attack. My lv 65 friend Alduran is with me in a party, he's owning them while i'm holding my own against one. He was hittimg me for about 25-39 damage a hit, ouch. They're not that far in lvl ahead of me, i'm guessing about lv 34-36. My friend Alduran lagged, they all turned to me and started smacking me(hence they DO link)i was able to get a few cure IIIs in, but i died and lvled down in the end. He can move again and kills all the stupid bones that link on him....easily. I get raised and kill a few gobs for my lvl back....it was really fun looking cool in front of the lower lvled people :). I fought the good fight although i died ;_;, wouldnt have died if my friend didn't lag, but it was cool because i got to fight them again w/o dying in 2 hits ^^. I also have the centurion's armor set so you know they hit hard.

The crossbones are indeed linking. LINKING. 5 or so just killed me.

I plucked one off the group. He cast a spell or two on me then came up for some melee. Then when he got there, he gave a call to his buddies. Who promptly thrashed me.

Ship wight conned IT while the crossbones were DC.

I wonder how long a raise will be at the Mhaura docks at 7:30 in the a.m. eastern time.

I was on the boat with two of my friends and we heard rumor that one of the pirates drop the scroll Ice Spikes. so we are riding the boat over and over hoping to fight them... the boat docks next to ours and Crossbones Cover the deck. At first my thought was "i am going to die" then i casted Cure III on one of them and about 3 came at me... my party did somewhat good until another one joined in on the action. soon me and one of my friends were spread out on the deck and the other friend was able to cast warp... Point is... these things link...

Undead do not link, only aggro. This is 100% true. When you come to get your ancient papyrus for genkai #1, remember that fact.

My friends and I just got on the boat, but from Selbina to Mhaura. We were just completely awed by the whole boat and pirate ship thing because none of the MMORPGs out there that we've played have stuff in them like that. There were several level 65+ on board, and one level 70 that fished through the entire ordeal, not having a care in the world. Meanwhile it took one of the crossbones two shock casts to floor me. Some really nice WHM raised me though and wouldn't allow me to pay her anything. She smiled, I bowed out of respect, and my party and I were on our way.

It was really awesome.
