Yes you can take it with a 47 War. I've taken it with a 45 thf before.
I've never seen it in the first tunnel ever before. I always seen it in the second cave. It's not a good drop rate, and it's not a bad drop rate.
I hunt this while waiting in intervals for the emperor. About a 1 hour - 2 hour spawn for me always.
I suggest if you come hunt this guy, you bring a war sub for provoke, or something to claim it very quickly. It gets very crowded in the caves sometimes.
Giant Bats are the place holders. 2 of them spawn every 5-10mins at a time. But one time someone will get lucky with one giant bat, and one Golden Bat.
30 - 32k in Jueno on Bismarck server.

Think I can take this on with my 47War/23Thf? I just want the cape for my Nin job that im lvin up. I think it would be fun to get it the hard way then just spend the gil for it.

So far 0/2 on this little sucker, the wait time for isn't too bad, but so far no luck at gettin cape..oh well, gives me the chance to find amusement in killing giant bats and get plenty of bat wings =)

I am a 36rdm/nin. Well, I have been camping this guy since 2pm EST. It is now 6:14pm EST and I've seen it spawn 3 times. I have been the only one camping this so I know I got all the spawns. I am 0/3.
Well, the first spawn came fairly quickly (15minutes) so I am not using that example. The Second spawn came about 2 hours later, and the third spawn came 2hours and 4 minutes after that one. (I kept track that time) All three spawns have been by the entrance to Gustav tunnel. It seems that SE has changed the spawn rate on this guy. I am not sure if the spawn places have changed, I just havent seen it spawn in the northern tunnel. I hope this helps you guys!

wow i dont know how people have such problems with the drop with this bat this has to be the easyest NM drop i have ever seen and the most easyest NM to claim. i am 9/11 on the cape easy money.

can any one confirm that the spawn rate on this guy is 45mins to 1 1/2hours?
Would I be able to take down this sucker as a 29 PLD/WAR?

no way. On NM's their level is always much higher than what is listed; I would steer clear of this until you are at least 33 or so.

I am bored... I was camping and camping this mob, some war came (i was without spawn since one hour) and he get the bat 30seconds later... And the drop... So i am 1/8 on this bat, and i can't buy my spells and gears. What can I do ? :'(

It's decided when you kill the mob, otherwise TH, moon phases, game day etc. wouldn't work. :p
About your second question... Nobody in these forums could know that unless they helped make the NM programs or...well... if we could go back in time. ^-^; I think it's probably spawned with the item, but either way there's no telling when it will or will not have the drop.

3/12 here. I have this guys spawn down and I have never not gotten him when camping.

i was lvlin war a few months ago in the dunes. went explorin the island cause it was my first time back then. so i find the place where the bat spawns and have a good time killing giant bats. then this ***** spawns. well that was a long time ago and i didnt know it was an nm back then. i just thought it was another form of the giant bat =P so i go and smack it then it starts hittin me for a ton of damage (i was only lvl 19) then when im wonderin "wtf?" i check him and boy was i surprised. long story short, i died and had a good story to tell my ls.
I was waiting for a party in the tunnel and I arrived right at the right time. Claimed him, owned him in about 2 min as a 40Rdm/20Blm. Got Night Cape. Sold for 40,000 on Bahamut.
I've had mostly bad luck with that damn bat- i'm 7/17 on him. It's stiffed me 4 times in a row, then a drop, then another stiff. Times like this make me wish I'd asked my 53 THF pal to help me with his TH2!

They really kiked the crud outta the bats spawn time me and my 2 buds went adn camped this mother for bout and hour till it poped but we were happy with the results 1/1 I'll let you do the math
