Sometimes the first group and last group of Rock Lizards will not exist on your widescan depending on where you stand and how big your widescan range is...
I don't know exactly how many monsters are in between each group. It is just an estimate.

Respawn time for Rock Lizards is 5 minutes earth time so once you kill a PH, set a 5 min timer.
Then either the PH will spawn again or LL =)

I would recommend that when you are camping LL, go in a party with 2 members, since LL have a chance to spawn either at the upper floor or at the lower one (regardless of which PH was killed...) With two members you can each take a PH to make it easier to keep track of the pop window for each PH.

Happy hunting!

This is my second post. So give me a break. I really want these boots, and am so far 0/11 on drop. Once i get these boots i will never kill her again.

Wrong. If LL was spawning before you're timer was up. You did not have the right PH. The theory is not even a theory anymore. It's been proven to work time and time again. It is possible however, for lag to throw out your timer by a few seconds. Either delay in spawn, or spawning early.

What helps with this is to wait till the PH dissapears completely before using your JA after it's death. First the mob will vanish, and then it's grayed out name above it approx. 1 second later. Use your JA in between the two for a more accurate timer. Either way, it's still a good idea to start widescanning a few seconds prior to the timer expiring.

There is in fact 2 place holders. Which explains why lizzie pops some times pops twice within 5 minutes, and then takes forever to pop again. Normally each place holder takes 2 hours to pop. So if both pop at nearly the same time, you're looking at a 4+ hour wait.

I too want to thank DTAngel. Using her strategy I am 1/1 on the boots. :)

Camped the thing for maybe an hour. I had competition, so without knowing the PH, I couldn't have known when the pop was happening, and I wouldn't have gotten it.
thankyou DTAngel

thankyou for your post of claiming LL, camped this today was 0/1 then i read your post and got the drop after an hour of camping 1/8 overall, 1/2 with TH2.

I'm a level 24WAR/12MNK. I killed Rock Lizards for about 45 minutes (maybe less) and found Lizzy right when I was about to goto bed, killed her and got my boots on my first try. There was some RNG/THF guy standing still on a hill, I think he was camping her too but chances are he had a script running to autotarget. LUCKILY right before I was about to gave up I decided to check behind the small cliffs at F-8 and found her standing right there. Sweet!

I camped Lizzie all day yesterday, as BST40/THF17, for 6 claims on 8 pops, but no drops. I owe a huge {Thank you} to Willfried, leader of The Storming Force on Seraph, for bringing his high-level THF to help me for most of that time and winning most of the claims against competition. I finally got both claim and drop this morning. In the process, I learned some lessons which may help other campers.

For much of the time, we were not alone and PHs were being killed fast, so I was not able to work to DTAngel's theory at all times. However, I am entirely certain that the "first" group of five PHs that appear in widescan pop to the east of the hill at the centre of F-8, and the second group of five pop to the west. As NevilQuetzal has pointed out, Lizzie can spawn from either group. What I saw was always consistent with Lizzie being the last in each widescan group, but due to the rate of kills that's not saying a lot.

I agree with those who have concluded that Lizzie must be an untimed lottery pop -- on one occasion, she spawned 10-15 minutes after a kill; on another, we went almost four hours without seeing her before just giving up.

Here's the NEW INFORMATION I can offer: although the placeholders invariably spawned five minutes after the previous instance was killed, Lizzie spawned significantly (as much as 3 minutes) earlier on at least two occasions. The first time this happened, I thought I had simply lost track of the placeholder. On my successful expedition, I was the only camper and I killed only the last lizard in each group, the west and east ones alternately at roughly three minute intervals. Lizzie spawned in the western part of the area as I was beginning to search for the pop in the eastern part, in this case just two minutes after I had killed the PH. I could see the four other lizards listed immediately above her in widescan.

Conclusion -- if you are using DTAngel's method, keep a constant lookout; Lizzie doesn't spawn to the same time pattern as the placeholders.

My thanks to DTAngel and NevilQuetzal for sharing their experiences previously, and good luck to future campers.

Killed lizzy, went downstairs, smoked a cigarette, came back upstairs, and she was staring me in the face again. Using DTAngel's PH technique, popped in consecutive cycles. No drop though, still on that...0/4

happened again, only 2 cycles between pop, got drop
1/8 - goodbye LL

So today someone in my linkshell runs out into South Gustaberg and claims LL within 2 minutes of camping. So me and 2 other people go out there and try camping her. Evidentally the spawn time is 45 minutes to an hour but every frigging time I camp this NM the spawn time is 1 1/2 to 2 hours and I can never claim it. Tried everything to get her to spawn faster but nothing seems to work. I'm 0/3... claimed her only once.

I've just started camping this guy and I'm having a hard time figuring out who the PH is. I've read that it is similar to the PH for Valkurm Emperor, but I cannot find any sort of pattern as of yet.

Is there a certain spot on widescan that the PH is always at? I've noticed LL is showing up at the very top. Does this have anything to do with the PH?

I had camped Valkurm Emp. Yesterday and got the drop so I figured i'd try this NM today to use on my 16 nin. Camped it as 41thf/7rng and about 30 mins later got the sighting on WS. went over and did steal to claim it. 1 min later the drop. 2 NM drops in 2 days is a miracle in my attempts at camping anything.

Is there ANY way of telling which lizard is the PH w/o using widescan? I'm 0/7 so far, fought seven times and no drop which took me three days of camping. I would LOVE to be able to kill ONE lizard and not like twelve in order for LL to spawn. PLEASE HELP!!

The theory of one PH seems to work. We just tried it like this. Our Ranger killed what he said was the fourth lizard out of the 5-block. When no other lizards were killed, Lizzy spawned exactly five minutes after we killed the PH.

However, a freakin' DRG22 came and claimed it right when I pushed my Provoke macro.
Killing non-PH mobs
# May 24 2006 at 12:14 AM Rating: Decent
I used DTAngel's method awhile ago with great results to get my Emp. Pin and Bounding Boots. I'm now helping my girlfriend camp the Boots, and I've come across a question I had the first time I read through your theory, DTAngel.

Rarely am I alone when camping LL, and so far I'm apparently the only one aware of this single PH method, because everyone else just runs around whacking every lizard in sight.

When I bring up Wide Scan (lv. 1 RNG sub), there's normally only 2-3 lizards up in the 5-block-slots where they're supposed to be. It's really hard on nights like this to know if the PH has been killed or not.

Claiming for me has not been a problem, in the event she spawns, so my question is this: Is anything that you're aware of affected by killing non-PHs? Knowing how your theory works, and knowing which group the lizard spawns in, I'm tempted to just kill every lizard in that block so I can be sure.

What I'm afraid of, is that in doing so, am I resetting LL's window or somehow making her "take longer"? If anyone has been able to follow what I'm talking about and has any feedback, it would be greatly appreciated.

Basically, is there a disadvantage to killing all 10 lizards? (Aside from the monotony and potential to lose a claim, which I'm not concerned with.)

RE: Killing non-PH mobs

I have a theory that I briefly posted on VE's page. It states that when the window for the NM to spawn expires, the PH MUST be present in order to "force" the spawn. So let me break it down in two scenario's.

#1: LL ToD was 5:00pm EST. At 5:55-6:00pm EST, a crap load of campers are killing every single lizard in sight. PH is toast. LL finally spawns at 6:42pm EST. ><

#2: LL ToD was 5:00pm EST. You're all alone camping LL at 5:55-6:00pm EST. PH is up and you kill it at 6:01pm EST. LL spawns at 6:06pm EST. =P

Scenario 1 basically states that if the PH condition is not met, then the "force" spawn is thrown out the window, and it becomes totally random. It's just a theory, and it started coming to me only a mere few claims before I obtained my emp pin. So I really haven't had the chance to put it to the test. So now, I'd have to find another NM, or help someone get their boots and/or emp pin. But if someone would like to build off of it. I'd be more than happy to hear the results.

I honestly detest this NM, I'v never been much of a patient person, nor tolerant for that matter... but when you camp it for 5 hours without seeing it (Completely aware someone probably snagged it out from under my nose) you get a little distressed.. Only time I have ever seen the Bounding Boots was from one of my friends who figured he'd out stage me, and he did ;;

Im new to this whole camping thing..What's a "place holder"?
RE: <Bounding boots> <can I have it?>
# May 13 2006 at 5:34 PM Rating: Decent
The place holder is a mob of the same type as the NM. In the case of LL, a Rock Lizard. They visually look the same as all the other rock lizards, and some say that PH's often bahave a little differently. But when the time comes for LL to spawn (usually in intervals of an hour). The place holder will prevent the NM from spawning until it is killed.

Now with LL, some will say that it is best to kill all the lizards around the stone tower by Wadi, as they are all potential PH's. But the latter theory states that there is just one PH, and only one. Therefore there is no point to wiping out every single lizzie that crosses your path.

So if it helps, I obtained the boots using the single PH theory. Which I highly recommend as it prevents you from spamming widescan ever few seconds. I'm after the emp pin now, who has a similair, if not the same strat. The single PH theory has gotten me the claim countless times, just not the drop. 0/12 on VE atm =/

I'll try to explain this as best I can. In the area where Leaping Lizzy spawns, you'll find quite a few Rock Lizards. If you show up and just stand there, LL often won't pop. To speed up the process, people often kill the other mobs of the same type, in order to get LL to spawn. The mobs they're killing are called the placeholders. In this case, the other Rock Lizards in the are the "placeholders" for LL.

Of course, it's different for different NMs. I've been camping Cargo Crab Colin for days and his placeholder is a regular crab.

Well I'm not sure if the same rules apply to regular NMs as HNMs, but it is against the ToS to hold an HNM. However, all that will happen is the claimer will be forced to kill it then.

Alright so I've been camping this nm for the past 15 hours now, which I'm fine with. But all of a sudden some THF shows up and claims LL right before dia is finsihed casting. He gets the drop I tell him I'm 0/11 and he replies with "haha loser". Then he proceeds to camp him and I ask him what he's doing and he says he's camping him for a friend in exchange for gil. Ok well he gets the pop again right under my dia. Then we wait... An hour, YES A FREAKIN HOUR later his friend shows up, kills him and gets the drop. My question is is this in violation of ToS?

LL is the most heavily camped NM that I know of. I've had LL pulled out from under me 3times. I had one person examine me after they logged on (they signed off at the spawn point) and you can guess from my level I was hunting lizzy, especially if Im 1-shotting lizards @ 32THF. Two hours of killing and this person just stood there(can't remember the name, I know I blacklisted them). I trun to kill a lizzie and am engaged when I see LL pop. Hit my RNGed ATT and before it sets off the camper claimed it. They didnt get the drop so I was happy.. a day later I see them camping TTT In Saruta. I can only guess that they were an NM hunter or a Gilseller.

As for violating the ToS. Possibly no but the fact of them calling you loser is disrespectful. Report them if you want but I'd still Blacklist them.
yay!

extremly lucky
# Apr 23 2006 at 4:14 AM Rating: Default
i got extremly lucky with lizzy yesterday. I was leveling Blue mage, killing the rock lizards around where leaping lizzy spawns. I move down abit and i see a level 10 pld fighting leaping lizzy, both about middlish hp. They both get to about 4% tp before the pld invincible.. and i thought it be over... but just before his 2hr wore off, she used baleful gaze and killed him after his 2hr wore. A puppetmaster who was also watching claims it... and gets killed in 2 hits, this is while LL is at 2% hp, so i claim it hit it once, kill her get 100 xp and bounding boots =) 1/1 on LL
