Sometimes the first group and last group of Rock Lizards will not exist on your widescan depending on where you stand and how big your widescan range is...
I don't know exactly how many monsters are in between each group. It is just an estimate.

Respawn time for Rock Lizards is 5 minutes earth time so once you kill a PH, set a 5 min timer.
Then either the PH will spawn again or LL =)

I would recommend that when you are camping LL, go in a party with 2 members, since LL have a chance to spawn either at the upper floor or at the lower one (regardless of which PH was killed...) With two members you can each take a PH to make it easier to keep track of the pop window for each PH.

Happy hunting!

OMG I hate all of you lucky bastards. j/k :P

I've been camping for 5 nights, only got 2 kills, witnessed almost 10, and only saw ONE drop. :( :( I have swore to myself not to give up though, so if you're on Asura and swing by, look for me. I'll be there b/c I have no luck at all. :(

Heh, i think i did see you on asura. I spent about 3 hours waiting for lizzy to spawn and when she finally did someone else got her, so i gave up for the night. Then next morning i logged in and within five minutes it spawned right next to me. All the other campers (there where only 4 or 5) had just gone off screen so i had her all to myself. I quickly voked it anyhow and when i killed it i got the boots. Second sighting, first kill. I almost felt bad for all those that had been waiting on that spawn for far longer than i had, but i was too busy being happy for myself. Good luck to all who waste away their lives hunting this infernal lizard.

I've killed Lizzy about 6 times with a high-level THF.

... No drops. My TH might be broken.

By the way, if you're on the Ragnarok server, this is really the worse place to hunt Lizzy. There's a MILLION level 15 newbies whom consantly sit around in the area, and these are the people whom usually get Lizzy when she pops. I swear there was a level 4 hunting her the other day, and a level 4 can't even kill her. Stupid? Yes.

The JP players sort've gave up hunting her due to the NA players being so obnoxious.. Heh. I see one or two JP players per every 7-8 NA player hunting her. Widescan gives you no advantage, because /everyone/ there is using it, pretty much.

Finaly, or not

I finally did it, I killed Lizzy after only 2hrs of waiting. I've seen her at least 6 times but always beat to the kill. And as the final blow was made....no boots. I will try again tommorow.

If you want to hun Lizzy, bring along a thf. WHY? for their natural ability to "TREASURE HUNT".

I am a thf so I know this. Killed lizzy by myself at lvl 40 (3 times), dropped boots all the time.

but don't waste hunting unless you need gil for stuff. There is so much more in the game than hunting NM's.

(This is Daxx again.)

Yes! We finally got the boots last night, which was my second night of hunting. (See my earlier post for the story for my first day.)

I hunted solo for about six hours, only saw her once during this time, and I didn't get to fight her. (She didn't drop the boots for her victor anyway.)

Finally, the thief on my linkshell arrived to help me. We partied up and chatted to formally decide to split the profit 50-50. Then, one minute later, he saw Lizzy, killed her, and she dropped the boots.

I had very mixed feelings at that point. I personally had spent about 12 hours total hunting Lizzy and didn't get the boots, yet he comes along and gets the boots in one minute. But on the other hand, I was extremely happy, because we agreed to split the profit.

Even though it was late, for kicks we decided to keep hunting for another pair of boots. A third person on our linkshell joined us and started helping. I'm glad; this third person saw Lizzy again after about 30 minutes, we claimed her, our thief killed her, and she dropped the boots again.

In retrospect... I killed Lizzy three times and she never dropped the boots. Our thief killed Lizzy twice, and both times she dropped the boots. So to me, it looks like the Treasure Hunter ability really helps. Or, this could just be a major coincidence. Many people say that merely having a thief in the party increases the chances of items dropping. Some people suspect that the thief must make the final kill. To be safe, we decided to let our thief always do the majority of the damage to Lizzy and definitely make the final kill to Lizzy.

So, my advice to you after having hunted Lizzy for two days... I would *highly* recommend that you not be so greedy and try to hunt her solo, unless *maybe* you hunt only in the wee hours of the morning when nobody else is hunting her. Otherwise, you will probably not get to fight or even see Lizzy without the extra help. A second person helps out a *lot*; the coverage area is bigger than I realized. My thief and I roamed around constantly, and we hardly ever saw each other, which surprised me, because I didn't realize there was so much ground to cover. A third person helps a bit more. Four people is probably overkill.

One last reminder: a single character can only own one pair of leaping boots at a time. Keep this in mind whether you're casting lots or going solo.

My story

(I'm Daxx on server Valefor.)

I hunted Lizzy last night for the first time. There were on average about 1-3 other people looking for her at the same time I was.

I can testify that Lizzy's appearances occur at random times and at random locations.

I got very lucky starting out. I saw Leaping Lizzy as soon as I arrived on the scene. She was in the SE corner of the grid (up the hill on the left). It was about 5:30 in the morning Vana'diel time. I killed her, no boots.

Then, 10-15 minutes later Earth time, within the same Vana'diel morning, I saw her again in the exact same location! Talk about lucky! I killed her, no boots.

Then, I hunted more, for a LONG time, then finally after 4 1/2 hours Earth time I saw her once more, this time in the NW corner of the grid at the bottom of the hill. I killed her, no boots.

So, I saw her at three different times, in two different locations. I was able to claim her quickly each time, using Provoke, so that nobody else would claim her before I did. Provoke is pretty fast, and I highly recommend it. If you don't have that, I suggest a quick spell like Dia. I imagine a ranged weapon would be good too, but in my experience Provoke and Dia are faster than my Boomerang. I haven't tried Darts, which would be a good low-level low-delay range weapon to try.

One bad thing about hunting Leaping Lizzy is that, if you're high enough level to beat her, then you're too high level to get experience points from the Rock Lizards and other monsters in the area. But, on the bright side, you can use this opportunity to train a different weapon type. I'm using this opportunity to train my polearm, since I'm planning on trying out Dragoon in the future. So, even though I'm not gaining experience, I'm building up my polearm skill. In general, when I find Leaping Lizzy, I claim her with Provoke or Dia (I'm WAR/WHM), then switch to my sword and shield mid-battle. And yes, you can change equipment mid-battle!

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed my story. The more stories, the better. I'm starting to consider inviting a Lvl 15 Thief to help me, for the Treasure Hunter ability to increase the chances of her dropping the boots. I'll have to split the profit, but... some Gil is better than no Gil!

a lot of people feel that way about thieves. i'm a level 40 thief, and i get the Traveler's Mantle and Martial Slacks constantly. my LS friends will fight 10-15 with no drop, invite me, and get it right away. they say: "oh i should've stayed solo!" but the fact is: they wouldn't have got it otherwise.

I have spent over 30 hours hunting this disgusting lizard.... Please listen to me... IT ISN'T WORTH IT! I have killed 28 Leaping Lizzies so far. Not one stupid pair of boots. Of course, I can't stop now. Please do not hunt her or you will become obsessed over her like I have and waste your FFXI days away. I shall now return to waste the rest of my life away... just to fight and curse at this wretched creature that refuses to shed any luck on me what-so-ever. :(

I hunted lizzy in Caitsith a few days ago on a 30 war/15 sam. Took me 25 hours across 3 days, about 8 hours a day, to get the boots. Over that time I saw 19 lizzy's. I killed 14 of them. Generally, I think I was pretty unlucky. Most people get it within 7-10 kills or less. But I have some information for anyone who would want to attempt the camp.

Firstly, there is no specific place where lizzy spawns. I've seen her pop all across the area of F-8. GENERALLY, she pops closer to the eastern side of that grid section, but that's NOT because she's more common there. It's only because the lizard pops are timed for less time in that area of the grid and there are more places for lizards to spawn there.

Second, there is no specific time where she pops either. Across the the 25 hours I camped her, it was a full month of Vana'Diel time and the spawns were fairly consistent; that's the only evidence I have for you.

Third, the rock lizards are the only placeholders for lizzy. I have no solid evidence for this, but I advise you not to run around annihilating everything just so you dont steal exp from lower levels who hunt there. My theory is that each monster species has its own spots of spawn. Lizzy pops when she is chosen out of a lottery whenever a rock lizard is about to spawn. This can take 15 minutes, it could take 2 hours. I've seen both.

There are a few ways you can go about the camp. High level japanese players, particularly rangers, like standing in a single place and checking their wide scan frequently. I saw a level 46 ranger stand on a rock in the eastern part of F-8 for a solid 17-18 hours shooting everything he saw. I ran in circuits around the entire area, killing all lizards.

Having a thf improves your chances, but not by much. The only real important class to have here is ranger for wide-scan. If you are doing this camp, I highly suggest you take a level in ranger as your sub if it isn't your main.

Having provoke is also extremely useful. This is one of the most farmed creatures in the entire game, so being quick to respond is very important. I would suggest you save your provoke until you see lizzy. It would suck if you ran into her and couldn't get her because your timer was still counting down.

Finally, be polite and patient during the camp. There will be a lot of people coming through, most of them in direct competition with you. Don't be bitter if they find lizzy before you. I remember when lizzy spawned right behind me, and a 60 drg who was just running by super jumped it from a mile away. At times like this you'll want to give up but don't. If you're in it for the money, then I highly suggest you find a partner or two. This will greatly increase your chances, especially if you have a ranger. If you are going after the boots because of the stats, like me, then you will need a friend that you can trust to camp with you.

I hope my info helped. Happy hunting, all.

YAY! YAY! I GOT MY LEAPING BOOTS TONIGHT! XD

I was with like 10+ high lvls, and I just stumbled upon lizzy! Both times I've found Lizzy, she's been located in the SW corner of the square, back behind the rock areas, most people don't look for her there, I've only seen Lizzy 3 times, and fought her twice, so I guess I'm lucky, I found out Sunday around like 4 - 6 AM the area is completely barren sometimes... I got the boots around 5 AM on a saturday, this is all EST time btw.

I'm never selling these boots, even if I find better, they're like... probably one of the most significant things I'll ever do with my life lol.

On Cerberus there is always some high levels poaching around for lizzy, really pisses me off that they also for fun kill all the other mobs around making it hard to actually level there!

Nice boots and all but the fact that LL is "camped" so much makes it pointless. Even more so is the fact that with the next patch, mayhaps even now you could probably find some better foot armor than that if you are that high level (which goes to show how greedy people are).

I've seen LL spawn 5 times in under 8 hours, and it seems to be dependent on the number of RL's killed in the area. Just a thought...mainly based off the fact that every time I see a Notorious, it's because people are slaughtering it's kin :)
Screw Lizzy

I fought 2 in the couse of 3 hrs. Not one stupid drop. Im pissed and I hate her.

I will add that there was no pattern in her spaw times and positions. Both are random i believe. Otherwise the Japanses would figure it out and know right when and where to get them all the time.

I fought one at 19:00 and the other the next day at 2:00.
Lizzy Sighting

Twice! Twice I saw her today and twice I failed to get to her first. The sightings were about 1.5 hours (earth time) apart. The moon was waxing (around 15,16%). The first time was about 3:30 in the morning Vana'Diel time. The second time was afternoon/early evening sometime. Oh how I wish I had captured her! (neither time did she drop boots for her slayers).

Anyone know the time of day this thing spawns? Knowing the spawn pattern would help beat the rich high level Japanese players to it.

Doesn't really seem to be much documentation on it. Worst comes to worst, you'll just have to camp out there. That's basically what I did.

Got really lucky on mine. I was on my way back to Bastok from Jeuno, and I saw a level 8 BLM getting pounded on by two lizards (one of which happened to be Leaping Lizzy. He called for help, I killed the lizzies, and got boots first time. It feels nice when you get a really rare item and save someone all in one day.
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 21 2004 at 3:24 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) this is a blatant lie. If someone calls for help, mobs do not drop items. Ever. The only way you could've gotten the boots is if the BLM died and you took over from there.

Think a little before you call somebody a blatant liar. A single person can only claim one target at a time, if a person calls for help, only the claimed target changes to orange. What if Lizzy was an add, and not the original target?

Lizzy wasn't camped up the yinyang. I was there for 4 hours one day, didn't see her spawn until the end of hour 4, japanese player swooped in and shot it as I ran at her. I hate people.

My first week of game play I was about level 10 or 11. Just killing monsters, ran into two lizards. Started fighting one, killed it and then I noticed that the other one was Lizzy. Never even heard of it before, it was fighting me so I killed it, and I got the Boots. Did not even think anything about it until I got back to town and checked the AH. Wow, 290K in Bastok. My friend who was in another town said he saw them for sale at 300K. So I kept them. Too cool to sell. Yippie.... :)

Let me tell you all my Lizzy story. I have been playing 1 week total and had just level to 11 in the konschtat passageways .I headed back to town to sell some crap and decided to go to the right of the big rock in s gust this time. I was suprised to see no-one around the area as I usually see at least 10 high level japanese players. Anyway, I topped the hill and lo and behold there stood Lizzy in all her splendid glory. I didn't bother checking her I instantly attacked and killed her w/ ease. She dropped... the glorious boots and I sold them for 150k at AH in about 2 hours. It was awesome. Didn't kill anything, she just spawn and I took her out, it REALLY IS AS GREAT AS EVERYONE SAYS.

Ridgerunner,
This really is a beautiful story. Everytime I feel like giving up on Lizzie and all of the extravagance she holds, I read this story and it gives me heart. TO LIZZIE!TO LIZZIE!TO LIZZIE!TO LIZZIE!
