Now, I still believe there's a PH, but there may be more than one. If there is only one, then the currently believed PH is not it. Anyway, it is possible to see the following in Wide Scan.

...

Cutter
Yagudo Herald
Yagudo Oracle
Yagudo's Elemental
Yagudo Drummer / Yagudo Interrogator
-->Mee Deggi the Punisher<--
Yagudo Zealot
...

Conflicting Example 2

EDIT: Added another example.

EDIT2: I did some additional testing, and I've come to believe that there is no PH at all. Mee Deggi popped while only two Yagudo were dead. The first died less than 7 minutes before Mee Deggi popped, and the second (the supposed PH) died less than 4.5 minutes before Mee Deggi appeared. Both then proceeded to spawn 12 minutes from their respective deaths, meaning that Mee Deggi's appearance and death did not affect the respawn timers of either Yagudo.

Unfortunately, I did not wait to kill Mee Deggi so that I could take a screen shot with all Yagudo alive, since I would have been required to wait 8+ minutes. However, I believe this officially debunks all PH theories. Nonetheless, there is still the possibility that killing certain Yagudo will cause Mee Deggi to spawn more quickly. I will try to do additional testing.

That still doesn't disprove the PH theory. People need to lurk more around forums and stuff instead of posting convoluted theories from insufficient testing (and no proof) all over the NM pages on Alla and ffxiclopedia.

It's been believed for a while now that once the PH is killed, Deggi can spawn any time in that 12 minutes afterward until the next PH spawns. This PH has to be dead for Deggi to spawn at all. I'm sooo tired of people saying "lolz I camped this 60 times and it spawned all of the time without any yagz dying!!11one". Unless you're on some dying server with no players, I doubt you'd see the room devoid of campers more than a few times in all of that. Either way, post a damn video.

The only reliable testing with proof that supports spawn conditions is the method I'm mentioning now. Yes, the PH and Deggi can be up at the same time. If Deggi spawns at the end of that 12 minutes, the PH will spawn before you're finished killing Deggi, and this makes it seem like there's a lack of PH. There IS a PH, but they still share separate spawn slots. Just, Deggi can't spawn if the PH is not killed.

Ergh, now how I'm trying to explain it is becoming convoluted because I'm trying to rush everything before work.

Case in point, the only method I've seen that has produced the same results time and time again by everyone using it is what I mentioned. It seems to spawn as early as five minutes after PH as killed, and as late as just before the PH respawns.

Edit: Today it spawned three minutes after PH death, so it's probably just any time the PH is dead. Or maybe we're all wrong. It's definitely not timed, though.

For me, Mee Deggi has spawned ~25 seconds after the PH died (it's the sole reason I started testing in the first place). I have myself come to believe that the mentioned Yagudo serves as a PH of sorts, just not in the traditional sense (ie. shared slot). For most other NMs I know of, the placeholders are specific monsters that keeping track of will allow you to predict exact spawn times of their respective NMs. As you mentioned, the most likely case (and the theory I currently believe) is that the Mee Deggi PH simply must be dead (something I referred to, but did not want to explicitly state until I had more evidence to back it up). Unfortunately, I have no concrete method of debunking this theory, but when I mentioned "all PH theories", I meant all the theories I'd heard or read in all of the sites I've visited.

Now, I've been doing additional testing in the hopes of narrowing down possible mini-windows in Mee Deggi's spawn time. I witnessed 25+ spawns and I'm 0/19 on the drop. I've kept track of my data almost every single time, and I waited until I had experienced what I mentioned in my previous post at least four times before I posted, which I then followed through with screenshots. I've never once read that the PH simply needs to be dead for Mee Deggi to spawn, and the entire reason I've been paying so close attention has been to narrow down his spawning conditions/timing in order to make camping him less frustrating. Like I referenced in my first post, I fully intended and still intend to follow up my research with substantial evidence, And I'm not sure how two screenshots constitutes no proof. Maybe not absolute, but it definitely supports my previous assertion. Regardless, I brought forth proof of a circumstance I'd seen no hint of in any information sources I've read. I half-way had myself believing my theory may have been new, but from what you say, it's not.

Also, while you may have been speaking generally, you were rather rude in the way you addressed me. I strived and will continue to strive to maintain a professional attitude in how I treat others. I can't see any possible way my post was taken as anything near "lolz I camped this 60 times and it spawned all of the time without any yagz dying!!11one".

While I was camping this nm I noticed on a couple occasions that the nm spawned before the place holder, but more often it spawned after the PH.

As far as time goes once I noticed the NM spawning 55 minutes after the last time I killed it, 3 times in a row he spawned an hour after the first kill. Most of the time it was 1 hour and 45 minutes. A few times I didnt see the NM for 3 hours.

On my 9th kill the NM spawned 3 minutes after I killed the place hold.
This is one crazy NM.

I don't mean to sound like a callous d!ck, but could you guys please disperse with these miracle stories of how great it was when you got your drop 1/1 or 1/3 or "I helped a friend after I was 1/1 and we actually got 3 more for our ls because our luck is just THAT awesome!"? I mean, yeah, congrats on being the luckiest person(s) alive to get that drop that quickly, but as I can recall from a couple of people below with the "Please don't use your store-bought O. Kote because I have no money to buy the real ones", not everyone has a great deal of luck from the SE gods (pricks?)with getting that 1/1 drop. To be honest, most of the people on my server I've ever talked to have had trouble with getting him to drop anything other than those damn knuckles. In all honesty, those people are who make up 90% of competition for camping NM's are the ones who have camped for quite a while to have no drops. So, in retrospect, they come here looking for answers to what they are doing wrong and all they can see is "MAN I'M FREAKIN'AWESOME! F*CK YOU CASTLE *** TROJAN! I'M THE LUCKIEST MAN ALIVE!". This only further demoralizes them and doesn't benefit anyone other than you and your ego.

Also, on a side note, IF (and I say IF because actions speak louder than b.s. posted on a website) everyone on here and that you speak with in the game who camped this c*cksucker was as lucky as they posted/said, then the store-bought copies of this hand armor still wouldn't be around 700k on Ragnarok.

Just my opinion, as well as a few others who I talk with on my server. ^^

Hey,
Ya kudos to you all who have won the Okote lottery. But have some respect with your glory stories. I for one am 0/50+ between myself and my best friend. (Its that bad i've lost count). I did get one drop with another friend however I was too nice let him take it and he quit the game shortly there-after. I've camped solo, with friends, etc. Everyone else boasts about how bad this really isn't. Well for alot it is.A little more encouragement would be nice coming from the lucky few.

Meh. Camping things like this sucks - I'll happily pat myself on the back if I get lucky, and I'll cheer on anyone else regardless of their luck.

I can understand where you're coming from, but I don't personally see the harm.

I started my Mee Deggi live on an evening at about 12pm to try and scoop these up before going to sleep, Not knowing that he would hold me in his grip for much longer then that...

As I arrived at Castle Oztroja and for some reason thought Mee Deggi spawned on the upper levels of H-8, I eventually strayed off to his real spawn location.
I had already been reading up on him here and positioned myself on the platform facing the little pond at H-8 and keeping and eye to both left and right side.
I was camping against 3 people, but none of them had any use of provocation so I felt secure at that spot. About 30min in the first pop camp, right in the pond where I was looking, and without trouble but with my heart throbbing in my throat I engaged for a dissapointing fight. It was over within 20sec and the sentence "You find a pair of Impact Knuckles on Mee Deggi the Punisher." would be one to haunt me to this day. I rense and repeat after pending an hour at Quu Domi to which I also got a claim but no drop. As I came back at Mee Deggi I found I was alone and until the pop 30min later noone had shown up so I got some time for a few Unclaimed Screenshots with my friends before killing him. No drop...I did this all night, and did not even go to sleep because of my obsession with him and got every single claim but 1 because it was the only spawn not visible from the place I was standing. I seriously advice standing on the out ledge and keep looking left and right 5 game hours after death of the PH. Ffxiclopedia will tell you all you need to know abou the PH, it's correct and I can 100% surely vouch for that. After going 0/14 on him, I had to go to Kirin with my LS so I said goodbye to him and got a break. After kirin I went to sleep and after a long night I came back on to discover a maintenance, But I had other things to do first so whilst doing all my things in Valefor I kept in mind that after Maintenances NM's can spawn so when dont I quickly took a tele to Mea, ran to Castle and saw I forgot my /war so as a Nin/Thf I arrived back at Mee's domain, only to discover another camper who declined my invitation to team up, Which Im sure he'll regret is he reads this. Because after he logged off and 12min before maintenance I kill the last PH's and pray for the best. Well, against my usual bad luck it DID pop, But everyone had logged off so noone was there to share in my luck but Nivek, but ohwell I got it and prepared for my new pair of Impact Knuckles. But not this time, I felt it was hitting me more and harder but what it was all about was after this fight and 10second before maintenance I GOT MY KOTES. I wend 1/15 on the ******* and I will never have to go there again!! So Riyank, Sorry you left but I got 'em. THis is my success story, but it didnt look like that at the beginning.

Thanks to Nivek for his everlasting Support and faith in me...ALmost missed my claim cause you distracted me >:O.

Slate of Valefor. 1/15 on O kotes, 0/2 on Boots.

Ok, I just want to say:

1/1 :D!

I'm happy.

I read through all the horror stories and prepared myself to camp for a long time (as THF45/BST22) - I've never fought it before and figured I could kill it with ease.

I was wrong, after killing it I'm at 118/698 HP with as much eva+ gear as I could manage - had to Perfect Dodge to avoid Hundred Fists.

But anyway, I arrived to see 2 other campers - one /anon, the other killing yags - so i figured i would just wait in a corner somewhere until something happens.

Less than 15 minutes latter it spawns! I hit charm just as one of the other campers appears, and proceed to slug it out. Was an enjoyable fight and if I got a link I doubt I would've lived to tell the tale, but I didn't and am now the proud owner of Ochimusha Kote.

Blind Bolts and Bloody Bolts would've made life a bit easier.

Ok, here are my 2 cents.

Who ever say PH doesnt work, you can kiss my ***. Kill place holder, and wait 8-12 min and Mee will pop, if not, 12 min normal mob will pop, either drammer(bard) or interogator(sam). I was standing up the hill facing the area where lake goes beyond normal ground structure~ north-west from when you first enter this area. first time Mee poped 12 min after PH died, there was only 1 camper, so i stood near him incase it pop near us, nothing poped, so i open widescan and locate him in the baaaack. so i run and claim, no drop~

next time, it poped 8min after PH died. i didnt claim. so i log out, i log in next day. kill PH, and stood in the same place up hill. after around little more than 8 min, it pops front of me, had to run down and claim, srsly (LOL everyone just turning around and around like noobs. SRSLY) and i got drop ^.^
1/2 on him, first time i feel lucky, lol~
ya i was mnk75/bst~ I had o.kote before but got stolen, so i had to camp him. ^^;
Good luck anyone hunting him~

Yeah... Came as a DRG46/BST1 (Not thinking RNG would make more sense, having a pet... XD).
After nearly an hour, a higher level RDM/THF came by, so I knew he'd be up anytime. Maybe ten minutes later... I see him on widescan. Figure out which direction he's at, run, {Jump}, claim. Got a little worried when he used {Hundred Fists}, but a Leg Sweep stopped him for a bit, and he went down.

Key gains 30 EXP.
Key obtains 48 gil.
You find a water crystal on Mee Deggi the Punisher.
You find a pair of ochimusha kote on Mee Deggi the Punisher.

Ok, so got my Sam to 35 last night and after seeing the other sam in the party complete outdamage me just due to O Kotes, I figured I should attempt to camp them, and after reading all these posts, I figured It would take forever. I went as 64DRG/15RNG and headed off this morning. I got to Spawn Point and only other person there was a 75thf/nin, who seemed to be afk. So after about 30 minutes of just killing everything, figuring if i can not get nm, i might as well try for some silk thread drops. I was just running around and attacked a yag and low and behold it was Mee Deggi, so after 2 Pentas and a set of jumps, it died, and I guess I got lucky this morning and went 1/1 on kotes.

Got mine 1/13..it was after maintenance, he popped THREE hours after it, we were about to leave (Was me and my RNG70 friend) when i saw Mee Deggi in the corner of my eye from my spot and I ran up, CHARM! BAM! What's even better he dropped :] Now my NIN is all set up til about 70 I think, got all I need.

EDIT: We just claimed again for a friend....2/14, dropped twice in a row

PH still works
# Feb 23 2008 at 4:13 PM Rating: Decent
Now I'm no veteran of FFXI so take my two cents for what they're worth, but here is my experience with Mee Deggi the Punisher.

I camped him for four days. The first day I was just out there to get a feel for it and see how much he was still contested for this day and age. Got to the spawn location and there were two other campers. Both were /anon and one of them was killing all the Yags in the area. The other one was runnning around the middle island. I was a 66rdm/31bst and set up camp in the southwest corner of the room. I was opening and closing widescan and after about 15 minutes he popped. I tracked him on widescan only to discover that he had popped 3 feet to my left. By the time I closed widescan the guy in the middle had already ran up and voked him, so I logged out and came to this site to read up on Mee. I read that the PH method no longer applied so I logged back in an hour later and did a visual scan. Again there was a high lvl in the room killing everything, and Mee popped 30 miutes later halfway up the West side of the room. I was able to run up from the SW corner and get the claim... and my first pair of Impact Knuckles. Huzzah.

The second and third days there were also two other campers. However this time NO ONE was killing any yags. Both days I waited around for four hours with no pop. Neither of the other campers left my sight and I used widescan now and again so I know he did not pop. I started to rethink the whole PH theory.

Fourth and final day. I dedicated all afternoon and evening to figuring this guy out. At the start there was a 75BLM running around the middle. I figured it was all an exercise in futility, so I decided to play around. I used widescan to ID the PH (3rd yag after crabs in the room) i killed it twice and all of a sudden Mee popped on the south side of the room. 75Blm got the claim, no drop. In the cooldown time I noticed that some yags popped in the water, would walk around in it.. then go to the dry land and stay there. I thought "Maybe that's why there's confusion over the PH, cause some of the non-PH's pop in the water." Mee's window opens and I kill the widescan ID'd PH a couple of times. Then, relying on what people said about the PH being the yags in the water, I aggro'd one that had just popped in the middle of the lake on the west side. While I'm fighting him Mee pops right next to me in the water, but before I'm able to switch targets, he heads straight up the wall onto the middle island. I used dia and charm to try to claim him, but got the "Unable to see Mee Deggi the Punisher" message ><. That Blm was up there, finishes his circle around the island to find Mee staring him down. Again he got the claim, no drop. He gave up after that, and I resolved to kill the PH as identified on widescan ONLY. I got the next 4/5 claims on Mee(losing one to a war/nin that was just in the right place at the right time), and each time he popped less than 30 mins after his window opened. I got my O. Kotes on the final claim - it was Remora server, earthsday, 76% Moon Phase.

In my opinion, the Placeholder method is still valid. He never popped the two days I camped him when no one was killing anything, but popped in 30 mins or less when I was killing the PH on widescan. Also, even though he can pop anywhere in the room, while I was camping him there was only one time that he did not pop on either the south or west side of the room. If you are using widescan, be fast or you'll never get the claim. I had a macro set up that was /target <scan> /ja "charm" <t> so that I could track him, close the window fast and spam my claim on the run. The time that my O. Kote's dropped, I just narrowly beat out a 75pld/war and a 56mnk/thf. the mnk was inexperienced and didn't use chi blast to claim, otherwise I'd still be hunting Mee Deggi

Hope this helps.
PH still works
# May 15 2008 at 9:28 AM Rating: Decent
I'd have to agree about the PH still being in effect.

I decidd to start camping him and set about setting up camp on the centre platform. There was 2 other people there (seemingly afk) so I assumed they had killed the PH.

Just under 3 hours after I had arrived there, no mee had popped so I asked the other two if they had killed the ph/mee, they both said no - so we killed it and 1h later he popped.

It seems the whole yag in the water ph is a lie, I saw many yags in the water and not one of them was the placeholder.

The placeholder (imo) is the 3rd yagudo after the 6 cutters on widescan. It should look like:
...
Meat Maggot
Cutter
Cutter
Cutter
Cutter
Cutter
Cutter
Yagudo Herald (will be on centre platform)
Yagudo Oracle (will be on centre platform)
Yagudo's Elemental (will be on centre platform)
Yagudo Drummer or Yagudo Interrogator (Placeholder)
Yagudo Zealot
...

This is the method I was using and it seemed to work, camping as whm/rng I didn't want to spend too much time "killing" :)
timing summary
# Feb 15 2008 at 6:26 PM Rating: Decent
after camping both this guy and the ra/ex fuma nm (both of which spawn exactly the same way, in my experience), i think i have all the timing figured out. i'll make it short and condense it a bit.

placeholders, to my experience, are the 2 yags on the center island, but mee degi will never pop on the center island, he spawns randomly around the the other yags in the area. i say this because i camped for 3 hrs with no pop, killing all but the center yags. i finaly went and killed the center yags and he showed up ~8 min later. coincidence? possibly i guess, but unlikely.

he seems to pop ~8 min after the placeholders are killed. normal yag respawn there is 12 min. i kill both PH at the same time and mug one of them, and use that to watch the respawn time. i go rng/thf and spam WS between 6:30 and 9:30 after kill.

pop window opens 1 hr after he dies, but he only respawns once the PHs are killed inside the window, giving him a minimum respawn time of 1 hr 8 min if you time it perfect and get lucky.

for claims, i'm something like 65%. 75rng/thf seems to work well for me. its rough when a lot of ppl are there and he has a good chance of popping on top of someone, where no amount of skill/abilities will help you. even if you don't get claim, understanding the timers and using widescan will always get you a TOD and comfirmation of a pop. without widescan your constantly wondering if someone killed him and you missed it and you're wasting your time.

RL time wise, hes heavily camped mostly ~8pm - 1 am EST, and the same in JP time, which i believe is something like 6 am - 11 am EST. camping outside these time frames is a very good idea =)

I just got the drop off MEE last night. 4 days ago, I was helping a friend camp him and we were at it for 3 hours, he pops and someone else gets claim. I logged off and came back last night. I was just camping mee for friends since I have no jobs that could use O.Kote at the moment. Equipped my warp cudgel and waiting for 30 second timer. I see 6 people camping him. Lo and behold he pops right in front of me. Fired my Charm macro and claimed him.. I Was so shocked and excited I let him wack me about 4 times before I remember to call my beast and attack him to with my BST50/Thf22. He uses up hundred fists or so but my pet still came out with about 80% life and I had about 80% life. (I forgot to snarl in all my excitement). Drops O.KOTE . I go OMG to my LS.. I get MEE in 2 mins of logging in and the drop!.

1/2 on MEE.

I think even a lvl 45 could solo him but it would be close. Just bring hi-potions 3 and/or some au-lait's

I hate this NM sooo much. I have spent 3 days holed up inside castle oztroja, never leaving the computers side for more than a couple of minutes at a time and only during the hour break after it was killed other than to sleep at night. I am currently 0/9 on him and counting as well as 0/5 on quu domi. I even dragged my bf down there with me and forced him to camp the stupid thing an entire day with me. Still no luck. I have seen it pop waaay more than 9 times but of course people love to camp this thing and it can be very difficult to get claim. (0/6 and the 0/5 are just from today, had terrible luck the last 2 days, especially the first day because Voldermolt was camping against me and got it every time).

Anyways, I do believe you need to kill a PH in order for it to pop, this place holder always appears in the same exact spot on widescan no matter where it is, it is always below the cutters on widescan and it is not the herald or oracle in the middle that show up at the same spot just as crimsonclear pointed out below me.

I would probably say the last 4-5 times we have killed it, it took about 1 hour 15 mins- 1.5 hours to pop from its tod and the last 5 times we've seen/killed it, it popped on the same side, 3 of which were in the same spot. Without killing that PH it seems to take forever for the thing to pop, or at least until someone does cave in and kills some yags.

We checked the theory where when you kill the PH, Mee Deggi will spawn 8 minutes afterwards or the PH will spawn 12 mins later if Mee Deggi doesn't show. It actually proved correct for 2 spawns and then he spawned at about 10 minutes after the PH tod and then it got all screwy from there so I don't know if that still, if ever, holds true.

Update:
Finally! 1/12 My boyfriend left so he could go level, leaving me all by myself again. He kept asking me to give up for a day or two and I told him one more try, and thankfully I did. I wasn't alone at first, but the left about 5-10 minutes before it popped.

Here's the thing: I don't know if this affects the drop rate or anything, but since I was alone I held mee deggi for about 5-6 minutes before I started actually fighting him which is the first time I tried that and the kotes dropped since I heard a rumor that people of lower level have a better chance of getting the drops and I thought maybe it's because they take a much longer time to take him down.

Now I have to help my bf get them... -.-

Here's a quick guide on how to hunt Mee Deggi the Punisher in modern day:

1)Don't be a little punk and farm Mee Deggi with your O kotes equipped. Have some damn respect for your fellow campers who don't own any kotes and unequip them if you just gotta farm the ex/ra versions so you can make your little bit of gil selling off O kotes. If you cannot follow this simple courtesy ideal then do us a favor, uninstall ffxi and go back to WoW.

2)There are no longer PHs for Mee and Quu. Both spawn randomly now. You can run around and kill all you want to be "safe" but all you're doing is earning yourself a bit of gil and some bard songs. Now, to add, it's entirely possible that maybe you can speed up respawns by killing yags, but I don't think that'd be something SE would do. After camping 13 hours today and watching as NMs spawned with every yag alive and kicking, I'm pretty damn sure they don't have a PH anymore but call me crazy I'm no expert. 0/6 Mee 0/2 Quu today.

3)If you don't pick a spot and stay still you're just setting yourself up for failure. I know it's hard to not run around because you don't want to lose a claim to others, but well you've been warned. It's fine to run a lap or two to make yourself feel better, just don't do it constantly. People like me will outclaim you almost everytime.

4)No TH doesn't help. Use thf for flee and nothing more.

5)Bst/thf thf/bst would be very ideal for this camp. Power of widescan, power of flee when you find the NMs, power of charm for the best claim ability. I stress even without widescan, keep your butts in one spot if you want to take it seriously. I roll as thf/war myself.

6)If you aren't packing flee you best find a spot around the area and stay there and hope NMs pop next to you. If you don't have flee, don't bother hanging around the middle area. You will get burned.

first off, LOL at no ph. it is the same PH as before, when mee is killed the window opens 1 hour after that, in order for him to spawn this yag must be killed, if its not killed, he wont spawn. However, it only has to be killed once, when you kill it mee can pop at random, you dont have to kill it again but you can if you like. I did just to be safe and not have to sit there for 5 hours. that's all there is to this nm, quu is the exact same

Actually, lol at you.

There is no ph, even though it seems like there is. No way, no how. I camped him for a 2 month period straight and observed both random and seemingly random spawns connected to ph.

He spawned regardless of ph being killed. Many times.

Also note that the person who said he never spawns in the middle is incorrect. He still does post the NM patch (by nm patch I mean deggi and gallant).

Peace.

Bleh, i'm 0/2 as far as the Kotes are concerned. Keep getting those stupid Impact Knuckles

Solo'd it easy as a 70RDM/BLM. It seems to spawn every hour and the last 3 times ive seen it spawn it was in the same spot. I think im gonna try again with THF subbed for TH. I'd really love to have one of those Kotes for my NIN.

Ok guys I have a question on camping Mee Deegi the Punisher. When I am camping him, is there any special way to spawn him? Like for example, Valkurm Emperor you gotta do all this placeholder stuff to spawn him. Is it the same for Mee Deegi the Punisher or does he just spawn? Or is there any other special way to spawn him?
O.O

1/1 on rare/ex
Well I just got my Kote on the first spawn I've ever seen followed by the first claim I've ever made. Truly sorry old pros, but beginner's luck won out this time around. Solo'd it as a galkan lvl 38 Sam with War subbed. I just figured I'd give it a try after reading that the drop may occur in greater percentages when you are a level close to Mee Deggi. I also thought that with the item being rare/ex now, maybe there would be less campers. I was wrong about that part, at least for tonight. When I got to the castle there were 5 other campers there, all lvl 75's except for one lvl 58. The 58 already had the rare/ex kote equiped, which seriously pissed me off at the time because I didn't see the point in camping for an item that you don't need and can't sell... but looking back now it's obvious he must have been helping someone. Anyway, I figured they were all more experienced than me so I was probably screwed. I stood watch behind a tree near the pond, and he popped within 15 minutes of me getting there at the back of the pond. I ran straight for him, repeatedly provoking and mentally freaking out because there was nobody between me and him, because the other campers were all towards the middle area and out of my sightline. When I claimed him he pretty much started kicking my *** as all the 75's came in to clean up after me if I died. One guy actually cheered me on, which I didn't notice until later when I was scrolling through the notes. I had to use my 2 hour, 3 meditates (one done in advance) plus hasso and beserk, a meat mithkabob, and 9 of the 10 hi-potions I brought just to stay alive long enough to beat Mee Deggi. It was a tough fight, and when he used the Monk ability I was completely convinced I was going to die. And then, it wore off and he seemed to run out of steam..... followed by the most beautiful text I've seen since starting this game... you found Ochimusha Kote on Mee Deggi the Punisher. Glorious!!! I bolted shouting and cheering out of the castle, didn't even make it out alive because I got attacked by a crab and didn't even care enough to fight back because I was too busy shouting to my linkshell. Good luck all! There really might be something to the idea that the kote have a higher drop rate for lower level campers with jobs that the kote is used for. My apologies to those who have struggled with this. I suppose this is why people sometimes say this game isn't fair, but that elusive moment when it's unfair in your favor??? Kick ***.

1/2 on rare/ex
was bored out of my skull, so i went and camped em. when i first got there. it was me and 2 others, with a thf seeking pt just killing crawlers.
after about an hour. someone else shows up and just starts running around the island.

i do the same. and claim him at the ramp, i mark tod go back to town, get back about an hour after death and just kinda sit waiting. by that time 4 others showed up, i run around the island (on top) a couple times claimed him again at the corner to the right of the ramp.

i dunno how this will size up to being true or not. but first drop kill i ws'd. got knuckles. 2nd kill i got kotes but did not use a ws at all.
probably just luck

I hate this place so much 0/29 between the two of them with killing both 2 times so far today so freaking lame you can spend this much time killing something for a rare/ex drop and not get anything cant believe how bad my luck has been on these

1/6

1/2 as NIN/BLM
0/4 as THF with TH3.

I think its random luck, I asked people when they got the drop say 5 or so confirmed drops in about 25 or so pops. Didn't see any correlation to day of week or moon phase to when he dropped it based on claims. I'm guessing drop rate is 5-10%. I think only 1 or 2 of the people who got drop had TH, so I would go with the theory that TH does not affect droprate. I think theories about using JA/WS during fight are silly too, contrary to the person below saying when he got drop he didn't WS, I killed mine with Blade: jin for drop.

I'm quite sure killing the placeholder triggers the spawn, during the last couple weeks I logged on at least 4 times and either no one was there or no one was killing the placeholder, after killing it, he spawned often within 2-3 minutes but sometimes longer.

That's my anecdote.
