Completely revamped:

Times:
After maintenance - 13 minutes
Next spawn - 24 hours - RDM
Next spawn - 23 hours - ???
Next spawn - 23 hours - RNG
Next spawn - 23 hours, 30 minutes - Me

Finally got my vine. I easily could have soloed him with my 2hour, but I had a friend along so I didn't need it. Raging Fists did ~700 with a boost, he hits a little harder than a normal Stroper but nothing too dangerous.

Camping?

Why would you camp this monster if you are not after the brown belt? And once you get the brown belt, why would you camp it again? Is the Brown Belt Quest repeatable? Because it doens't look like it is. And the item that this monster drops can not be sold or traded. I find it ludicrous that gil sellers would even be after this as there would be no profit in it for them after completing the quest.

The Monk who had the Brown Belt, propably paid for his and was trying to actually do the quest this time around.

Stroper PH?
# Oct 19 2004 at 10:30 AM Rating: Default
I camped out in Ordelle's at the Morbolger spot before the server maintenance/reset. I had no idea this NM was so heavily camped. I logged in within minutes of the reset (110 people online at the time) and about 10 minutes afterwards, there were 10 other people camping it with me.

Some of them were killing off Stropers when they popped. I am estimating that the respawn on the Stropers is about 14-15 minutes. About 14 minutes after a Stroper kill, and about 1 hour after the reset, Morbolger popped @ I-10 of that room (to the left if you are entering the room). Now, unless I missed the Stroper pop because I was busy fighting the Morbolger, it makes me think a Stroper is his PH.

However, on the other hand, most NMs with respawn times similar to Morbolger do NOT have PH. So, it may simply be coincidence.

Addendum:
I'd like to also recommend that you keep your sound on (if you normally don't). I heard the "rumbling" of Morbolger walking before his graphic appeared on my screen. I'm talking a very short period of time between the "sound" and the graphic... but if you happen to be looking away at the TV or whatever, it can signal you that he may have popped.

#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 14 2004 at 9:57 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I am sorry to say that your idea of the chymes as place holders is wrong. This guy is simply a 24-36 hour spawn. And the chyme spawn almost exactly 12 mins after their death.

Accidental Drop
# Oct 04 2004 at 6:09 AM Rating: Default
lol this was actually funny
we're looking around ordells for Galka RSE.
We end up inviting a lvl 55 DRK to help kill for key drops. All of a sudden he asks in pt chat for us to come to the Stroper place, seems he engaged the NM without knowing it.

We easily killed the NM with the 4 of us and i got the drop ^^ wasnt really for it, but it saves me camping it for the drop for the belt^^ maybe i can make some money when i get the other items.

Stopped by Ordelle's today hoping to get a time of death for this thing. A BRD69 was camping it and we chatted for a minute before it popped. If only one stroper pops in that room I can confirm it is NOT A PLACEHOLDER spawn. I pulled a stroper and less than one minute afterward the bard got Morbolger nearby. Not sure if it is 21-24 hour spawn time will test tomorrow.

Follow up, I returned the next day after seeing Morbolger killed. Camped from 21 up to 24 hours after last time of death. He popped almost exactly on the 24 hour mark, again popping just moments after a Stroper went down (almost on top of me). Will test again tomorrow for a friend. If anyone knows me (Entity) on Siren send a /tell and I'll let you know time of death.

So the Mithra RSE was in Ordelle's Caves today, starting at 10 AM, and a friend of mine asks me to help her find keys and chests. So we go in a trio - me, Mithra LV43 THF, an Elvaan LV45 THF, and her, Mithra LV45 WHM. We get her first piece of RSE, all is well and good, she warps to Jeuno, trades in her pattern, and comes back to try and get another.

Second time around, we're having one hell of a time getting a key to drop. So we're camped out in Morbolger's spawn area, killing Stropers and goblins for her key. We've been here in this spot for less than 20 minutes, sharing it with a LV50 PLD. The PLD leaves, we all think, yeah, cool, our spot now.

About 10 minutes later, PLD comes back with a Mithra WHM in tow, and for about half an hour, all is peaceful. Then, the other WHM decides that she doesn't want to share this camp with us, and starts /saying that everyone not here for RSE should clear out. Now, /say has a relatively small radius. If you're standing in the middle of the Morbolger room as this snitty chick way, only people in that room and immediately in the hallway outside can hear you. So she's obviously talking to us, since we have an Elvaan with us, and I'm obviously a THF. I say back, we're here for RSE. She gets her dander up and says, well, everyone here for RSE who isn't going to sell it for gil can stay, and that we shouldn't steal all the mobs that 'other ppl need'.

Let's get the odds straight here.

Us: two Thieves with ranged weapons with delays of ~300, a WHM with Flash.
Them: A PLD with Flash and Provoke, a WHM with Flash.

And they start yelling at us because they can't outpull us.

Would you like some cheese with that whine?

Anyway, we have us a little argument, she saying that her camp was there first (even though one person does not a camp make, AND her PLD left the area for 10 minutes) and that she wasn't being snitty when I pointed it out, yadda yadda. I back her into a corner in her own logic, and instead of taking a moment to come up with any sort of comeback whatsoever, she says "Congratulations! You have been blisted./"

Oh well. My party continues to kill things, beating hers to the mobs almost every time, when finally a pair of Stropers spawn. Well... what appears to be a pair of Stropers, anyway. My WHM Flashes one, while the snitty WHM and her PLD take the other. Ours is dead less than two minutes later, and theirs is still alive with half its health.

/check
The Morbolger's strength is impossible to gauge!!

Noob mistake - they pulled an NM. >3 So the three of us watch this WHM and PLD get their rear ends handed to them, and when they die and the mob goes unclaimed, we pull it. It was at about 1/3rd of its health bar, and my WHM ended up using Benediction, but we all made it out alive. While the WHM lay dead on the floor, her PLD having abandoned her. ^_^

Moral of the story 1: Be aware of your surroundings. Read the names of whatever it is you're pulling, and get informed as to where the big NMs spawn.

Moral of the story 2: Don't be a jerk to the people around you. If it were up to me, I'd have left that WHM dead on the floor of the cave, but after a long wait to recharge MP, my WHM did indeed raise her. Aw, gosh durnit. ;P

The Gil Farmers on my server that are always camping Stroper Chyme all have the title "Morbolbane". Its bad enough that its a 21-24hr spawn. This would be a nice quest to finish one day.

Edit:
Heh, the day after I post I end up getting it ^^

while I won't confirm *for sure* that the spawn time is a normal 21-24 now, I can say that I spent the last couple days camping him, and the one time I saw him was 21 hours and *roughly* 34 minutes after the previous pop.

I say roughly because I was going on information from a person who had killed it prior to me showing up. I came in to camp Stroper Chyme, and a 60 MNK who was there as well /checked me. Then he commented on me not having a brown belt yet (>.<) and told me when he last killed it.

I decided after reading this forum.. hey.. why not camp Morbolger.. get the brown belt out the way??

So... Off to Ordelles (during the 8 hour AH patch) Camping the Stropher Chymes,.. and Morbolger,..

I'd only been there 50 mins and this pops, a 74 Sam/Whm in the room hasnt moved in the last 50 mins,.. I run over, Chi Blast.. Berserk + Focus + Hundred Fists,.. its dead before it dealt much damage to me,. lv 54 monk

I then go camp Nue, get Nue fang first drop...

Camp Deadly Dodo, took 3 hours for 2 spawns, no drop first time of course,..

Now im 340,000 gil richer and ready for black belt to be accepted, should I ever get that far

I started camping this beast 21:30 hours after the last time I saw him die. I killed the stroper in the room every 12 minutes, setting my timer to catch the next one. The stroper was always on 12 minutes. Anyhow, at 23:30 after the previous death, and 10 minutes after my previous stroper kill this guy spawns and some 75 monk who was already wearing a brown belt kills it while I'm over in the corner healing up b/c I thought I had 2 more minutes before it pops; I should have had those extra 2 minutes if this were a legitimate placeholder spawn.

More data tomorrow when I camp it...

The Molbolger is not a placeholder spawn.

After getting TOD (time of death) from a LS mate yesterday, I camped it today. I'd kill stroper, go camp chyme room and come back before the 12min pop was up.

After an hour Molbolger popped right on the 12min mark in the place of a regular Stroper. So, this only proves that Molbolger IS a placeholder spawn.

Merlynius,

Thanks for the FYI. So it was definitely only 22 Hours after the last kill time? If so, that means Morbolger was one of those "Spawn Times changed" mobs in one of Square's recent patches: (FYI) According to 1-2 reliable Japanese sites, Morbolger used to be a 24-36 Hour Respawn (Ugh). I had 1 high-level JP friend tell me that was what it was at (when he camped it 5-6 months ago). If you killed at 22 Hours after its last kill time, then this NM has (thankfully, IMO) reverted to the more standard 21-24 Hour respawn time of some NMs.

If anyone else can confirm this, please chime in. Thanks! :)

51MNK/25SAM. After an LS member camped him for 15 straight hours before getting the pop, he then proceeded to tell me the approximate time. Since we're both monks (he's 64MNK/WAR) and both plan on taking monk all the way, I asked many questions about the camp, and all that.

So the next day, I head over there. I bring a red drop and an X-potion +1. 22 hours after my LS friend got it, I'm sitting in Morbolgers room, and 17 minutes he pops: No other campers, no other players even in the room. I brought a 41blm/smn friend with me to camp Stroper Chime, so I made him sit in the corner while I killed the stropers and gobs that spawned.

Morbolger pops after killing my second Stroper, no defining timer, and I don't even have to compete for him. I engage, and tell my friend to stay away; I tell him, if the rumors are true, then his breath attack would seriously ruin any chances of survival for my little 41blm taru buddy.

... I didn't even get to use my X-potion +1. No nukes, no cures, and t he red drop is still in my inventory. I had built up TP before hand, unloosed a Raging Fists, then spammed my 2 hr. Morbolger was dead about 40 seconds later.

I'm not sure why people are so afraid of him; Maybe it's because I'm Galkan, though thats stretching it, but he never hit me for more than 40, and that was a critical. Gobs on Rolanberry hit harder than that.

At any rate, Morbolger vine drops, obviously. I'm passing on the Malboro vines, and I PASSED ON THE MORBOLGER VINE.

>.< Let me tell you, two days later and I'm still kicking myself. My 41 taru friend got the vine, and now he'll get a 400k item almost without effort.
Nooo please nooo

I camped that room for THREE DAYS and finally it all came together. Had one other person in the room, a RDM who apparently fell asleep. I was lucky, another RDM and a PLD *just* left within the 1/2 hour. It was all mine. One of those times ya fumble with the keys and controller cuz you suddenly can't rememeber where ANYTHING is.. Man I was going nuts.

L56 MNK/WAR. I wrecked it. I had 300% TP already so I did Raging Fists, then Hundred Fists, then another Raging Fists at ~200%. It never even got a chance to do a breath attack. I lost maybe 500HP out of 1248.

Of course while leaving I ran into a Stroper Chyme, which drops this ring.. hmm.. Have to sell that!

Ya know, I'm not sure it's a forced spawn. I was killing Stropers, but I appeared to be the only one doing so. Nobody else did. When I killed it, and the fight was only maybe a minute, there WAS a Stroper in the back of the room.

When I was camping it, it spawned at 12 minutes after the last Stroper was killed, which is why I think it is a placeholder spawn. I could be totally wrong, but it was right on the second when the Stroper would have spawned. And you're definitely right about the key fumbling, I was amazed it actually spawned when I was there, hence missing Hundred Fists and all that. ^^;

I can confirm it. I've been hunting this thing on and off for quite some time now, believing that Stropers (12min respawn time) were placeholders for Morbolger. First off, I spent a couple idle nights in the room, hoping to get an approximate time of death. After I narrowed it down to the right time (+/-15 mins), I decided that tonight would be my night and I'd get the spawn. So I started killing stropers as usual, then going to sleep and waking up a minute before the next spawn (5 hours vana time). Halfway into hour 22, I was in the middle of one of my sleep breaks, when I was fourtunate enough (from an information standpoint) to realize that someone had killed it in between the Stroper spawns. The next stroper popped as usual, so the placeholder theory has been debunked... and tomorrow... I stay awake!

EDIT: It's the next day, and yes I got it between Stroper pops! Thankfully I beat a very chatty elvaan to the punch! Oh, this thing has 3000hp, I just counted it for fun.

I killed him after my LS had helped one of our Pallies do AF1 quest. We were standing around waiting on stroper chyme who we kept losing and so I went and looked in the room. I did not know molborger spawned there, but I saw him hitting some high lvl ninja who I guess was afk. So I attack it and call my pt who were higher level, I am only a level 50 pally. Anyways we killed it and got vine.

You need to kill the placeholder Stropers in order for it to spawn. Those pop every 12 minutes.

Tough Fight for Lv55 Melée
# Mar 18 2004 at 3:14 PM Rating: Decent
I just fought this thing, and let me say, it was a TOUGH fight. MNK55/WHM26, if you have ANY buffs you want to fight with, you better blow them all at the beginning of the fight. It will hit you with paralyze, silence, blind, and poison all at once. I didn't use Hundred Fists, as I thought the paralyze had killed it, but apparently just didn't hit the macro key. I luckily lost paralyze near the end of the fight, and was able to toss off a Divine Sealed Cure III and I ended the fight with 400/1226 HP. So, subtract the 380 I got from that cure, and I would have nearly died.
