Maat Picture

On your own the most you can accomplish is achieving level 50. This is where your average adventurer caps at, but of course, not everyone is happy being just an average adventurer. This is where Maat comes in. He may seem like an ordinary old man to you, but this old man is a master of all the western jobs and his skills and effort date back to the Crystal War. While his methods may seem awkward, he is whom you speak with to break the barrier and achieve a higher level.

In a series of 5 tests he slowly molds your average adventurer into a true hero. His final step, however, is the toughest of them all; defeating Maat himself in Mortal Kom...erm, defeating him in a spar match. It doesn't matter which job you play as for he has mastered them all:

I've got a LONG way to go before I have to fight this guy myself but I heard something that may be of use to all you folks trying to take the old dude down.

He has the same stats as you do when you ENTER the arena. Meaning, if you strip yourself down, enter and then re-equip your stuff, you now have a statistical advantage on Maat. For even further measure, grab some items that lower your crucial stats and equip them before entering and then switch to your good stuff. Has anyone tried this? If so, did it help?

Here's a link from Mystery Tour about Genkai5(raises lvl cap from 70 to 75).

http://mysterytour.web.infoseek.co.jp/ffxi/us/tips/genkai5/genkai5.htm

It details how to fight him with any job.

Think if you are whm you should try to get your club skill very high, cause casting enfeebling spells not only take to long but also have a high chance to be interrupted.

With high clubskill and good dmg club, lots of hi-potions it should do it.
Also remind to get the opo-opo necklace and sleep potions to raise your TP before you start to fight him.
Also get a couple of Icarus wings to get full tp without hitting it once.

White mages only have to take 4000 total damage from the fight, they dont have to do any damage to maat.
Thief

I've heard that thieves only have to steal from him to actually be done. But so I've heard he isn't that easy to steal from... I still suppose all the Steal+ from the AF gear, plus some extra things like earrings, necklaces and such with more Steal+ might pull it off at Lv70...
I still have that f'ing Genkai I to go though... Blasted Papyrus...

DAMAGE!!!

i just fought maat for the level 70 limit quest...i died in about 4 hits (he uses hand to hand no matter what job hes using, so he double hits with long delay in between)

keep in mind i probably shouldnt have even tried him for another 2 levels, buti wanted to get a feel for what i was up against...

68 taru WHM (your support job is disabled for this fight). he mimics your job. so he was WHM too. i tried to pull with silence, thinking that my increadibly weak enfeebling skill would actually do something, of course his blink absorbed it. he returned the favor and silenced me (not that it mattered, i didnt have time to cast anything anyways)

i dont know how i am going to do this, i will probably need to deck out in HP gear and try to just potion it, though that will be expensive =/

i was thinking of getting an earth staff to take the edge off the damage he does, but then i wouldnt have hexa strike so i dont know what i would do to actually hurt him =/ plus a medicine earring would help too i bet. i'll get to 70 and get some better gear and see how round 2 goes...

damn you maat...

I don't know if you've successfully tried beating him since your fight (April 20 was awhile ago) but if you haven't, all a white mage has to do is take a certain amount of damage. In other words, heal the crap out of yourself because you won't be killing Maat. After you take so much damage Maat will give up.

Good Luck!

Shattering Stars

You get to kill Maat for the final (70) cap quest, I guess it'd be kind of hard for him to give you another after he's dead. He's a tough old ******* too, all the sause he's been drinking must have +STR or something. There's a video floating around of a Japanese 69 WAR being beat down by him in four hits.

Been also told from numerous people that if you are a WHM or whatever job you have on your main, he is the same. Also, your support job will be disabled so you won't be able to use the job. So, be prepared to fight this one.
