Maat Picture

On your own the most you can accomplish is achieving level 50. This is where your average adventurer caps at, but of course, not everyone is happy being just an average adventurer. This is where Maat comes in. He may seem like an ordinary old man to you, but this old man is a master of all the western jobs and his skills and effort date back to the Crystal War. While his methods may seem awkward, he is whom you speak with to break the barrier and achieve a higher level.

In a series of 5 tests he slowly molds your average adventurer into a true hero. His final step, however, is the toughest of them all; defeating Maat himself in Mortal Kom...erm, defeating him in a spar match. It doesn't matter which job you play as for he has mastered them all:

Oh and if you're interested in what the enchantment is, it's basically a Teleport-Jeuno. It warps you directly to Maat.

I found this, and was wondering if it might have anything to do with the old sea dog.

derived authority and stability from the concept of ma'at, a quality or behavior which translates as truth, justice, order and righteousness. Ma'at implied a divine force for harmony and stability which emanated from the beginning of time itself. Good rule by pharaoh signified the presence of ma'at.

Finally got around to fighting the old sensei Maat. He's like Mr. Miyagi from Karate Kid or something. He's tough, tough, tough. I'm also tough, tough, tough. It was a VERY short fight.

I got the two Skillchains in ... just like I was supposed to. Pear au lait just like I was supposed to. He called me a young whippersnapper and said that he was going to ache bad for the rest of the day. He just barely managed to squeek through on almost no hp. So it looks like I'm still training under Maat.

Edit : Maat Mashed 8/30/05

Now I have gained access to the final plateau in this game. Nice. My tactics changed a LOT this time around - I went for defense. Surviving Meikyo Shisui without a KO. And it worked, wonderfully. Cleartime : 5 min, 12 seconds

currently drinking beer and listening to Spacemen 3 - Third Time is the charm - Third Eye - Triforce Powa All Right!

Take Me to The Other Side. Of the level cap thx

Since he takes the role of your current job with a Monk sub, wouldn't that in turn make him a MNK/MNK if fighting him as a Monk? High HP... among other things.

I hate this old git.

I've yet to face him as Dragoon, been speaking with fellow Dragoons to get an insight, but its still a personal fight in the end.

He shall die, I'll place my life on it....

I have my test but am not at the lv to fight him yet..... That being said from my understanding he is not job/mnk but more like job&mnk. I guess the best compairison i could make is the ArchAngels from the Zilart missions. The Taru AA for example isn't drk/blm or blm/drk. The taru AA has all the moves of both drk and blm. But if it helps the only mnk skill i've ever heard of Ma'at using is asuran fist....
whats he like for brds?

Type: Stout Cloth
Rare / Exclusive
Jobs: All
Races: All
Defense: 0
Auction House Category:

Vitality +7

No idea what 'teleport' exactly refers to, though...

It teleports you to Maat. So it's like a Teleport-Jeuno.

Don't believe me? Look at the screenshot of it, the enhancement had been cooling down for 8 seconds and he's in Ru'Lude Gardens.

I cant post this on the forums, so I will brag here. :P

I set a new record for the Ranger Maat fight on Sylph tonight. 3:25. it was very nice.

Hellfire /w silver bullets
Blink Band
Francesca
standard lvl 70 armor (AF, War gear)

Sleep TP (sleep potion didnt last as long as I hoped)
Use Blink Band
Open with Shadowbind
Barrage (Forced EES which blink ate)
Eagle Eye Shot
X-Potion (prolly should have used something with shorter use time)
Shot him untill I had 100% TP
Slug Shot

3:25 time ^^

there were a few things that could have been better. This victory was luck, but it was a victory nevertheless.

I would have done a few things differently if i fought him again.

Brought more than 1 Sleep potion (I only got 25%tp from the 1)
I had an icarus wing, which i was planning on using after the second slug shot (but he died). I prolly should have used it after the first one.

I should have tested the postions, but I didnt... oh well. I was told to bring a vile elixer +1, but I didnt think that it was necessary for a rng. maybe i was wrong, but it doesnt matter now ^^

This was my second time fighting him, the first time, I lost rather quickly because I wasnt ready. this time, I was ready, but still did not know exactly what I was doing. I am one of the lucky peopel who got him without doing it 10 times. Talk to other rngs who have beaten him to see what they did. that is what helped me more than anythign else. by people sharing their experiences with me, I was able to get some stuff that guides didnt suggest.

Good Luck to everyone ^^

# Mar 23 2005 at 8:23 PM Rating: Decent
I like to ask what does he do if your a Redmage? Maybe its to vague but I mean do you have to kill him or just survie for so long? I understand if youre a thief you have to steal and for a whm survive. Im gussing for the war type jobs you just gotta kill the old fool. So if there are any 75 Rdm's out there tell me how you did it ^^b please and thank you

Yes you need to kill him.

Go on Darksday, have full enfeebling gear on with a dark staff. Sleep and Nuke him. Takes around 7-8 Aero IIIs to finish him.

If your a hume....beware chainspell, he can spam Asuran Fists on you as he chainspells, he did it 2 times to me in a row. Get slept no matter what or you will quickly die!

Finish Maat off like how you started. Get him below 10% and you will win.
interesting idea...

do food effects work when u go in? if so then you could: bring a cursed soup, antacid, and ambrosia (ambrosia is made by uncursing cursed soup w/ an item from a BCNM 60 or from the god fights) and some stumbling sandals, use the cursed soup and equip the sandals b4 u go in, then use antacid then use ambrosia and equip some good foot gear.

Cursed soup gives -7 to ALL stats
Ambrosia gives +7 to ALL stats
Stumbling Sandals give -10 to DEX and AGI

or maybe u could use cursed beverage b4 hand (but it costs a lot) i think it gives -5Hp and -5Mp per tick and lasts 5 mins (not sure but read that it totals around -500 hp and mp) and since he wont attack until you do that is a good head start but u have to choose between this or the cursed soup and you could then use antacid on this then maybe use the uncursed version which needs the same abjuration as the cursed soup is called amrita when uncursed and gives the reverse of cursed beverage effect.

use only the sandals and the food of ur choice so that he doesnt get the boosts of the armor and weapons u equip after going in.

maybe u could use a really high delay wpn as well so he doesnt H2H u?

I just did this a couple days ago and set a battlefield record of 6 min, 54 sec for PLD on Kujata.
I used the stumbling sandals and some low level gear when i entered the battlefield. I didn't think to use foods as a negative on my stats but I bet it would work as long as you could get it off you before the fight.
I had 3 macros set up to change my gear back and I went for offense with a Meat Chiefkabob instead of my usual def food.
I had on the Opo-opo necklace and slept myself 4 times to get 100% tp and then attacked with "Vorpal Blade", right after activating my "Sentinal" def abilility.
I immediatly took and Icarus wing to give myself 100%tp again and popped Maat with another "Vorpal Blade" I then used my "Rampart" def ability.
He was hitting me for around 100 per hit so by then I did a Cure IV and popped a Vile Elixar +1 and a Yaguda which I learned would stack. I was able to work in another "Vorpal Blade" about this time.
Maat then used invicible and I used flash and broke targeting with * and ran around the edge avoiding a couple hits till he stunned me at which time I turned back to him.
I was down to about half so I used my invincible and then took a Super Ether and then did another Cure IV.
Just as I was about o hit him with another "Vorpal Blade" the battle was over!
I had won!, what a relief! This was my second attempt and I had found out the hard way that time is not waiting around for you as I had run out of time the first time I fought him.
I got some of this info from in-game friends and some from the job forums. The best thing I did was to set up the macros for changing back into my equipment, it saved some valuable time.
Good Luck!

Mythology time kiddies!

Everyone knows FFs borrow heavily from world mythology - if you don't, seriously, get a clue. Anywho, Maat seemed to be no exception, so I did a little research:

Maat is also the name for the Egyptian goddess of truth. It translates to "that which is straight". It represents order, balance, truth. Source: members.aol.com/egyptart/maat.html

According to a National Geographic article, the word is also related to the Egyptian belief of life after death. The mummified person dies, and faces judgement in the underworld. To quote:

"The jackal-headed god Anubis weighs the deceased's heart, site of the conscience, against the feathers of maat, or things as they should be."

So, if indeed SE was influenced from this, Maat is the example to be followed, that which is "right".

I myself am far form fighting this evil evil old drunkard. But to clarify things, no matter what YOUR main job is you will not have a sub job. But he will, he subs MNK. Not fair eh? I know....it sucks..(this is only from what I have heard from high lvls I know ^-^). And I can confirm form some WHMs that you don't have to dmg hm but take a lot of dmg for him to give up. (elvaan whm45 midg server<3) good luck to all who fight him *quivers in fear*

Maat aka "the old man" - the toughest NPC in the whole game. Experienced players must prove their worth to him. The final challenge for the ultimate level is to challenge the old guy in single combat. He is A TOUGH OLD GUY. I've heard of people getting obliterated by Maat many, many times before getting the final level, 75. The good news is that when you are his student, only the 50 and 55 level caps are a challenge. He lets you off the hook for 60 and 65 after you've proven your initial worth.

Just owned this guy after 10 tries, i brought 3 hi-ethers and 3 Super Ethers. I fought him on Darksday (seemed Easier to sleep)
First off i ran in and Sleep II him BEFORE he casts Blink. Then i buffed and Aero III him, and sleep just repeated that same process until he was about less then half way [____l____] and then Convert - Heal Full use Super Ether and then CHAINSPELL Aero III him to death he gave up at about [_l_______] health so jsut take him down to that much
Hope this helps
I used Dark Staff for sleep, Mythic Wand+1 for Aero III and a Melon Pie+1 (total INT+37)

K... on some friends on Siren i've heard that you gotta get Rabbit Charm for your thf... and get everything that lowers your stats when you enter battle... like stumbling shoes ETC. I wish i had a picture of this guy, but from what i'm hearing on this thing... i dont wanna get to lvl 50! i'd dump my pants! allways wondered what stumbling shoes were for, i mean, who would want something that'd make you UNGOOD in every direction? anyway. Dudez if u could send a picture of this guy annnnnnd could you guys list the items that lower ur stats to make him really bad to make yourself able to fight him

A whm has to sustain about 2500 damage (I think) before Maat will give up. Buy echo drops beforehand, in addition to two bat earrings (+10 to evasion when blinded) and a blinding potion. A thf just has to steal from him, so use hide and get behind him to get an advantage.
