Poisonhand Gnadgad Picture

A martial artist who soaks his hands in deadly poison to create fatal weapons from his fists. It’s rumored that those who are susceptible to poison can die from but one strike.

Some/all of the information in this article has been culled from various FFXI guides, and translated by Elmer the Pointy.

The drop rate on this guy is terrible i honestly say dont camp it you will get it faster just saveing up the money to buy one im 0/17 on this guy and about 5 times ive had a thf with TH3 on him tbh i gave up and just bought one he is not worth the 2 hr camp and not getting the drop
Wimpy NM

I'm a level 47nin/23war and I've gotten him twice so far today. Solo'd him both times but it wasn't THAT easy, the one in davoi is weaker than the one outside of davoi -- way weaker. 0/2 on the drop. Just kite him around (with all the other monsters dead) when he hundred fists and you should be fine. Casting paralyze and blind wouldn't hurt either.
Boom bitch!!!

So here we go, camping this thing about an hour trying to beat 4 other /thf guys to it. In about an hour theyall got bored and left and low and behold, he spawns. I wait for the opportune moment to avoid agro from the brawler in the area since im only 50pal/25war, you would THINK that would punish me. So i voke it and start fighting. As soon as i see it start to use one hundred fists i 2 hour followed by sentinel once that expires and take maybe 30 dmg. so thats how i avoided this task. Next, i have it down to about 1/4 life and guess who spawns right next to us, Firebelcher. so he links and at this point i think im done for. But i manage to get off a few cure III's and seraph blades, poison drops and then i manage to kill firebelcher. so, moral of the story, i kick a$$!!!

o/1 for gi. :(
Solo?

Ok so a few weeks ago my old ***** for MNK comes back. I'm currently DRG 60 as my highest, but on my old character I was split between MNK and SAM (45ish and 50 respectively before I quit FFXI for a looong time). I've come back and had no real interest in MNK until recently. I'm a long way from being able to level MNK again, mainly cause my social LS leader/friend is going to start a HNM shell and she will kill me if I don't have a 75 by the time it starts. So for no apparent reason I've been camping MNK item NMs like crazy. I find camping easy to do when school takes up too much time to actually accomplish something. Anyway, I've gotten O.kote, Sarutobis, Purple Belt, Brown Belt, and Boreas Cesti with relatively little pain.

Now this guy I camped for 2 days straight. 0/15 with TH1 every time. I got 9 claims in a row because everyone was doing WotG stuff and NO freaking drop. I know I could just buy it, but I have an old score to settle from him beating my old character senseless on more than one occasion. It's a good thing I like camping NMs because this guy is a stingy *******. Upside is that I have plenty of time to amass the rest of the items I want, Retaliators and Kung Fu shoes etc.

All I can say is good luck with this guy.

Woot!

So I was doing some research, and FFXIclopedia said that Poisonhand is a lotterypop
from the Warmachines. First time I ever saw that. Anyone know why they would say
that? Is it possible that SE changed the Pop Requirements?

Walked in to Davoi because I have nothing better to do. So i head to Posionhand spawn and kill a Nightraider, as soon as i kill it who would spawn right behind me but Posionhand. I turn around and melee it, since there was no apperent campers, and after i claim it 3 campers come running. As SAM60/THF30 it wasnt too hard of a fight, however when he used Hundred Fists he missed 80% but still took off 500 hp. so DO NOT attempt to kill unless you have alot of HP.

Edit- 0/1

I just spent (stupidly) six hours camping him. He popped once, and a monk with no linkshell and on /anon chi blasted him first. All mobs around the areas were continually killed. Absolute rubbish. I could ahve farmed cheap, common stuff and made up the money that way during this time.

had some interesting experiences with ths ****... i camped him once as a 41MNK/20WAR with my 75 RDM friend and my 75 THF friend, claimed him at the "T" junction, killed him, dropped sitabaki...

i left him alone for a while... cane back as a 47 MNK (Kinda a deathwish...), was there for about 2 hours... had alot of downtime and near deaths from aggro cos of my level... then he popped down near the Seal of Dark Arts... claimed him with about 80% hp, 2Hred, counterstanced, and killed the {******* sword} with about 100 hp left... got the gi!

the moonphase was like, 95% or something really close to full when i got it

btw, nearly everytime i've gone near there, there's been this one guy camping him non-stop... Hotfire, on Asura... he must've got about a dozen gi's at least
Just camped him twice...
# Apr 13 2007 at 9:26 AM Rating: Decent
I just finished camping this NM twice consecutively. I went with the kill-em-all approach, wiping out every orc in the area, including the firebelcher (got one Serpentine gun ^^). The second pop was almost exactly 90 mins after the first (I used Meikyo Shisui on the first, so I checked the time remaining on the recast when the second popped).
Now, I'm sure I'm way off here, but both times that he actually popped, I felt as though I hadn't seen the firebelcher for a long time. So, I ran around a bit and BOOM, there he is. lol
He popped once in the little "T" shaped intersection near the Wall of Dark Arts, and once in the center area. A LS friend of mine that camps this NM often says the spawn location is about 50/50.
Sorry there isn't much detailed info, but I hope this helps.
Still 0/2 on the Gi. I got the Sitabaki both times, though....
(Went as SAM/THF, btw.)

Finally I got revenge on this NM. When I was lvl 40 doing the magicite mission I got lost and had a nasty run in with this nm, owned me and a monk friend of mine (also lvl 40 at the time) with hundred fists. ; ;

Now that I'm lvl a 72 whm I deside to see if I could find this guy again and kill him back, so me and different friend (60thf) go to the camp to see a lvl 73 rdm camping there. For once there wasn't a rmt there! I spent about 2 1/2 hours running around killing the ph's and all the other stuff, talking with my friend and the rdm there. It was about 2am for me and as I said to them I was going to call it a night....it popped right in front of me! Used flash before the rdm could use dia and claimed it. My friend and I killed it pretty quickly and the gi dropped! Revenge rocks! XD

1/1 on the gi! =)
can drop when 100fists

Can 55war/nin solo it?
# Jan 28 2007 at 10:09 PM Rating: Decent
Could a 55 war/nin Galka with almost full HP (1200)
and maybe some TP kill it?

Update: Killed it today with NPC, no drop. Could've done
without npc, but need full health.
Also had to kite when it used hundred fists.

Im about 2/13 on this NM.Neither times did i have a thief with me or subbed. I dont not recomend using wide scan with this NM because since the pop points are so wide if someone is walking around looking for it and you just found out where it is there is a good chance it is already claimed. the Phs are from what i have seen pretty good.Ive seen the nm about 30 times.Rmts love it.You have one or two phs on the side of the main part.Let side of G-6.ON the right side of G-6 on the north side he either pops at the very top or the very bottem of the canal thingy. Then there is 1 or 2 Ph a little futher south of that. The key isnt how many Phs it has. but where they are. Since they are usually bound together search the four areas. Poisonhand will two hr either about 60% hp left or 40% hp left i dont know if theres a ironic correlation there but thats just from what ive seen. My PLd couldnt take him at 53-54 but at 56+ i started getting him easy. GL hunters I got my drop today and was happy. Ran straight in voked it from some other guy and tada Jujitsu Gi in my invetory.I couldve died. GL

This is now the final draft. ~TB

This is a tricky spawn to nail down, which is why there's so much confusion about placeholders. But here goes.

There are two groups of Orcs in this area - one group contains 7 Orcs, which are the ones which appear in the central North-South pass on the west side of G-6.
The other group contains 16 Orcs, 1/2 of which can appear by the bridge to the east, the other 1/2 can appear along the north-south pass on the EAST side of G-6. Below is a list of the mobs in the general area, in order:

Impaler
Beastrider
Nightraider
Brawler
Impaler
Beastrider
Nightraider
Brawler Mobs above this line pop toward the bridge @ H-7.
-----------
Impaler Mobs below this line pop on the east edge of G-6
Beastrider
Nightraider
Brawler
Impaler
Beastrider	<--- placeholder
Nightraider	<--- placeholder
Brawler
WOlf Bat
Wolf Bat
------------
Bowshooter
Footsoldier	These pop around the "Wall of Dark Arts"
Gladiator
Trooper
------------
Wolf Bat
Wolf Bat	This group pops in the western half of G-6
Impaler
Beastrider
Nightraider
Brawler
Impaler	<--- <--- placeholder
Beastrider
Nightraider
Firebelcher
Wolf Bat
Wolf Bat
Poisonhand Gnadgag
-----------
Impaler
Beastrider	This group pops on the path @ F-5/F-6
Nightraider
Brawler
Davoi Wasp
Davoi Wasp

Take a minute to digest this. Please note - these mobs won't all be up at the same time, but these are their positions in the widescan list.

Now, as you camp in this area, you will note that there are only ever FIVE orcs in the NM camp area. The game draws from the pool of those orcs I mentioned for these 5, meaning the same orcs don't always reappear. It also switches up so that one time you'll have 1 orc in the one group and 4 in the other, or 3 in one group and 2 in the other.

Take another moment.

If you have the benefit of ranged scan, you should be able to discern the placeholder from the mobs' position on the list.

If you don't, you're going to run into problems, because each placeholder has a mate in the same area. You could come to camp and see an Impaler to the west, and a Nightraider to the east, and either one could be the PH, or they both might not be. Without widescan, you're really going to have to use some logic, and watch the spawns carefully to sort it out. One caution - it isn't as simple as watching for one area to suddenly have an "extra" orc. The only exception is when the West half has just 1 Orc - that single Orc has never been the PH for me.

Of course, the easiest way to find the PH is always just to wait for the first NM pop, and see what respawns in its place 12 minutes or so later.

It appears that Poisonhand appears about every hour. At least it's been that way for me so far. Placeholder orcs repop 12 minutes to 12 1/2 minutes after they die, the Firebelcher is a little longer - about 14 minutes or so.

10 straight claims, and I'm 0/10 on the Gi ; ;
OTOH, I heard "cao ni ma" for the first time in AGES... :)

I want to share my experience about camping this NM.
I went there with rdm75/rng36 for widescan and got it 3 times in a day, not bad but i only got 3 sitabaki. I wanted a gi :'(
The placeholder is not precisely identified but i noticed some specific conditions that seems enable the NM to pop.
with widescan you have the orcs as follow :
...
bowshooter
trooper (which can be a gladiator too)
various orc (i've seen beastrider, nightrider, brawler and impaler)
various orc (impaler or beastrider)
Firebelcher (warmachine which drop serpentine gun too :) )
Poisonhand Gnadgad
nightrider
brawler
...

Defeat the bowshooter and trooper, guarding the gate in G-7, seems to be a condition to spawn Poisonhand Gnadgad. But that's not the only thing, you have to kill 1 of the various orc between the trooper and the firebelcher, i think this is the 1st one, but not 100% sure.
After that it should pop about 12 min later all around the G-6 square.
I'll update if i learn more.
Good luck

PS: don't kill the regular mobs that appear just after the firebelcher in the widescan list, it's not the placeholder. i'm sure of that.

The most logical would be either the brawler or the gladiator ... but then again they could have made it something totally different =p

one more thing, the NM does not take the place of a mob.
it always appears after the firebelcher but don't kill the regular mobs after it, it's worthless. they are not the placeholder.

Claimed this guy against 2 LS and 3 gilsellers, i have a trick: "low class" gilsellers can't write a code for their bots, so they use MrArgus that warp u to a monster using a macro that u want when it pops. This worked well with windower 3.anything before 3.32, with windower 3.32 mr argus starts the macro but can't teleport u. and the macro that u use (like /ja Provoke <t>) requires that u have checked the <t> and u have NEVER changed target 'till the pop.
now i'll explain better. if u cure a gilseller that uses a new windower and MrArgus, he will target u so u the macro will fail 'cause the last target changed ^^ i stopped many gilsellers but lot of them now uses /blockaid so all the things i wrote since now r unuseful. anyway cure any gilseller u'll see, if u can they will not use the bot on the NM until they can target it again so they will lose the first pop. good luck guys
