Summary

A Sin Run is a term for an organized "hunt" for the various sin weapons. Each weaopn drops from it's respective skeleton NM. It takes a minimum of 7 people, and each of those people needs to be able to kill a different skull, because ALL SEVEN are popped at the same time. You have to beware of blood agro, no matter what level. It is easiest to do this with level 75 jobs, or jobs that are paired off to duo-fight the skeletons.

All information provided is from FFXI-Atlas and Allakhazam.

Sins

The 7 deadly sins are: Envy, Gluttony, Greed, Lust, Pride, Sloth, and Wrath

The stats for each of the skeletons are as follows:

  • Level: 60
  • Aggro
  • Linking
  • Based on Earth
  • Weak against Fire
  • Weak against Light

Maps

Everyone enters The Eldieme Necropolis. There is a specific position for each person. More information about how to get to that position is below.

These are all the maps associated with the run. Click on a map to enlarge it.

Walkthrough

Everyone must be at each spot at the same time, and everyone trades a flint stone to the tallow candle. The candles only stay lit a short time, and if you zone--they will go out. Once traded, the flame only lasts a short amount of time, so coordination is required. Once all 7 candles are lit; all NM Skeletons will pop. Drop rate is bad, but they do have good gems. You can do this as many times as you want, respawn is an hour from when the last skeleton dies.

Now, how to get to the appropriate position:

NM Drops Position in The Eldieme Necropolis Position from Batallia Downs How to get to that position
Skull of Envy Earth Crystal, Bone Chip, Jadeite, Envy Spear A-8 D-6 Enter Eldieme from Batallia Downs at 8th entrance, position D-6. Go north-west until you get to position A-8.
Skull of Gluttony Earth Crystal, Bone Chip, Chrysoberyl, Gluttony Sword J-6 G-7 Enter Eldieme from Batallia Downs at 5th entrance, position G-7. Go east, then north, until you get to position J-6.
Skull of Greed Earth Crystal, Bone Chip, Fluorite, Greed Scimitar K-7 I-10 Enter Eldieme from Batallia Downs at 1st entrance, position I-10. Once inside, get to position G-6 (may need help with doors), and drop through hole in the floor (Hole B). Once on ground floor, go north-west to position K-8 (almost K-7). Make a right (go east) and then go north to get to position K-7.
Skull of Lust Earth Crystal, Bone Chip, Painite, Lust Dagger K-12 I-10 Enter Eldieme from Batallia Downs at 1st entrance, position I-10. Once inside, get to position G-9 (may need help with doors), and drop through hole in the floor (Hole D). Once on ground floor, go south until you get to L-13, then go west to get to K-13.
Skull of Pride Earth Crystal, Bone Chip, Aquamarine, Pride Staff I-10 I-10 Enter Eldieme from Batallia Downs at 1st entrance, position I-10. Once inside, get to position G-9 (may need help with doors), and drop through hole in the floor (Hole D). Once on ground floor, go slightly east then south and you will be on another map. Keep going south-east to get to position I-10.
Skull of Sloth Earth Crystal, Bone Chip, Zircon, Sloth Wand G-10 G-8 Enter Eldieme from Batallia Downs at 4th entrance, position G-8. Go south-east until you get to position G-10.
Skull of Wrath Earth Crystal, Bone Chip, Sunstone, Wrath Tabar E-6 F-5 This one is slightly tricky. You need to enter Eldieme from Batallia Downs at the 7th entrance, F-5. To get to that position you need to enter from Beaucedine Glacier. You can get to Beaucedine Glacier one of 2 ways:
  1. Teleport-Vazhl, walk from Xarcabard to Beaucedine Glacier to Batallia Downs.
  2. Walk from East Ronfaure to Ranguemont Pass to Beaucedine Glacier to Batallia Downs.
Once inside, go south-east until you get to position E-6.

I know how to make the skulls pop what i need to know is do they all spawn in one place or 1 at each candle? Can we just light the candles and only kill the skull of gluttony? How good does the gluttony sword drop? Is TH2 required for good drops or does it drop ok by itself?.......................Allota questions huh? lol
Question...?

Ok, Is there a way to make the Skull of Gluttony spawn...WITHOUT making all 7 of them spawn? I mean, is the only way to make any skull spawn is to spawn all of them at once? Like I cant just light the torch at the gluttony and it'll spawn..I have to light them all?

...You people complaining that the sword is at 200-300k!? Try Garuda server, 800-900k!!
That's what you have to do?

I'm really too poor to buy this along with everything else that i need to buy, so i need to get this info correct. You light all seven torches (candles?) at once to spawn every skull at once, which is a 1-hr interval of candle lighting. Then all seven skulls pop at once..so that means if there are 3 plds in my LS that need this then It'd be a 3hr event? And it isn't a guaranteed drop either? I have some questions, such as:
How is the drop rate? If i have TH/TH2 is it very likely to drop? Is the drop rate so bad that TH/TH2 will still make it a shot in the dark that i will even get the drop?

I appreciate any responses and thank you in advance

How in the world does someone farm over 500k in this game, and don't say NM's because they are always camped. Ok, so u can farm/mine for awhile, but in the good ol' days of final fantasy all u had to do is kill stuff and gil would come flowing.. I feel that in XI they lost the special money making system that monsters, any monster, will drop some items that can make you some gil.

If you were smart enough, and are willing to put in a little work, gil will flow to you.

IRL, do you think money just comes to you for doing nothing? This game is a lot closer to real life than you think.

Even if you take a level 50 job, go to gusgen, and mine for a day, you will -easily- make at least 40k an hour. Easily.

If you look harder, than you can also make upwards of 60-70k an hour, hell, you can even make that much in Gusgen if you get lucky.

Why do you think gil sellers camp it?

Fire Crystals 5k a stack. Inflation rocks.

Anybody with a level 4 job that knows where Bastok is can make tons of cash, yet everybody complains that the price of everything is going up. Just go farm everything then.

Ok, since I just did this with friends and there was horrible information on these NM's available, I'm posting a mini-walkthrough for them.

A) Necessities:
1 flint stone per person or group of people lighting each candle.

A group, or person, capable of killing a lvl 60 NM skeleton per candle.

Maps for all regions involved (this should be common sense, but you never know.)

Silent Oils / sneak casters (for those groups /
people who would get aggro from lost souls, shadows, and the utukku near pride candle which hates lvl 75's.)

B) Locations of Eldieme Entrances Involved
D-6 (anemone room #1) Envy
G-8 (anemone room #2) Sloth
I-10 (need 2 people for this, to activate
levers) Pride
G-7 Gluttony
F-5 (beaucedine glacier entrance) Wrath
H-7 Lust
H-6 Greed

Look at map above for exact location of each candle (excepting pride; that one has info on how to get to it under the link to that skull NM)

C) Rules on Skull Popping
1) Each individual candle takes an hour to become lightable again. As you get people to each candle, check to make sure they're all lightable. If not, then you'll fall prey to rule #2. Once a candle goes out, and if one wasn't lit, then you can't pop the NM's until they all become lightable again. That means, tell all the trigger happy people with you to not touch the controller / keyboard until the leader gives the signal.

2) ALL candles must be lit at the same time for the Skulls to pop. There's a timer of about 5 min for the candles to stay lit, so there's no possible way for less than 7 people to do this.

3) Once all the candles are lit at the same time, then all the skulls will pop directly in front of you, in the alcove with the candles. They will then proceed to flay you alive. Take precautions before spawning them, such as buffs, clearing possible undead aggro, etc.

4) The drops are not automatic just because the NM's are triggerable. TH1 or 2 is advisable.

5) The flint stones are not used up on trading them to the Tallow Candles. Most you need is 7.

Gluttony reached its highest I've seen in a long time. Its at 900k in Kujata and rising...might actually go over 1 million. At this point farming the sword seems like the best bet, although if you were unable to do that then buying it is a definate option you may want to consider ^^.

Does anyone "really" know how to get this NM?
Also... how do you know which will spawn if it is a triggered NM? Is it the first candle you trade to or the last? I am pretty sure it does not have a spawn time.. I would be camping it to Death.. and so would the Bots. 500k on my server.
And i was just taking note that each skull drops a different jewel.. Is it possible the skull that spawns is the one that drops the jewel for that day? Would that mean "Gluttony" would only spawn on Earth Day?
Anyways... if there is someone out there that can help me... don't be shy.
For now i guess i will try figure it out for myself... I'll let you know how it goes.

If any paladin can't afford gluttony sword he/she has serious problems. This is really tyhe only 500k+ item you have to buy besides possibly vigor rings up to this level, and thats not too much gil. Look at that guy next to you with his serket ring, or all the elemental staves, or the haubergeon. Then stop whining and buy this sword.
Now, you can farem it, but dont refuse to buy it if it isnt dropping for you....If i see another 60 pld with a carnage sword im going to cry.

O_O_O_O_O_O ONLY 500K?!?!?! i have over 100k and i think that 500k is kinda much =P

# Oct 27 2004 at 11:08 PM Rating: Decent
I have been leveling Paladin for a while (45 now, but taking a slight break to start farming for level 50 equips) and was thinking how i was gonna get this sword, my best option so far is to ask my linkshell to help me out.
Could someone give me a quick summary on what makes this thing spawn? does it relate to the other skulls in the area? and any other related info.

^_^ thanks in advance!

ok, im so confused, please clarify this all up, umm... first of all, we dont have to buy it? this sword is DROPPED?!?! AWESOME! =D 2nd of all, umm... how do i spawn this nm? i read that u trade it certain items, and then touch tourches? lol wtf, please help me out, i dont feel like wasting 200k on a sword ^^;
RE: wait...wait...
# Oct 09 2004 at 6:30 AM Rating: Excellent
Wait indeed...
First of all, to answer your question, there are 7 torches around the spawn points that you will need to trade a flint stone to. This has to be done within about a second on all 7 points at once, so you need an alliance to trigger him, to the best of my knowledge and personal experience. Each respective skull can be triggered once per hour. To date, I've helped with the Skulls of Lust, Greed, Gluttony, and Sloth. They're all the same, and the drop rate is fair, but not 100% (0/3 on gluttony, 1/2 on lust, 1/1 on greed, 1/2 on sloth).

Second of all, I'm assuming that by wanting this sword, you're a paladin, as the only possible reason anyone really would want this is for the +7 Vitality. If you feel that purchasing the highest +VIT weapon in the game is a "waste" of money, you need to seriously consider a new profession, and paladin is a relatively cheap job compared to others. This is probably the only item so far that you've ever had to worry about costing you more than 30k, and as paladin is not a damage dealing class, one doesn't have to worry about upgrading a weapon, does one? Thus this sword can take you all the way from lvl 57 to 75 in style. Count your lucky stars it only sells for 200k on your server, as I've seen it range from 300-500k on Ifrit, and it's worth every Tiger Fang you farm for it.

Edit: added drop rates to give a visual

You missed on detail I myself am interested in. How do you determine which skull is spawned or do they all spawn at once?

And I don't think he meant the gluttony sword is a waste of money. Just that he'd rather quest for it if he can and I will see about trying to do the same once I'm at the level where I can use this. Tis a fine blade indeed.

Hmm. A friend and I accidentally spawned Greed before.

Said trade it a flint stone, so we traded it a flint stone. It said (Two are left...) then it said (One is left...) and then it spawned and said "Now ye shall know our power..." or something to that effect.

Eh. Triggered NM. Whether or not 6 other parties were triggering at the EXACT same time, I doubt it.
