Pathos Unlocked

  • Can remove VIT, STR, and/or Rings/Earrings.

    • This can remove the Pathos of anyone that entered the zone in the party or alliance, even if they have disbanded from the party or are disconnected from the game when the monster is killed.

    • For example, if Player 1 of the party gets disconnected when the monster is defeated, there's a chance of his/her Pathos being unlocked when they log back into the game.

Yeah, its due to crawlers detecting through scent, the military supposedly use the same method on escape and evasion exercises, by traveling through rivers it helps throw any persuing dogs off their scent.

Thats why I always carry a stack of deoderizers with me, it makes me laugh when I see pt's wiped out in crawlers nest because of a bad pull and massive link, simply popping a deoderizer will stop all the aggressors dead in their tracks just like water, and people say deoderize is the most useless spell in the game, pfft!

Crawlers can't swim
# Jul 16 2006 at 7:12 AM Rating: Decent
A little side note for the low level crawler farmers. Crawlers can't swim. I found a nice spot at H-8 in East Sarabaruta, just sitting on the bridge, looking for crawler spawns, and noticed that they couldn't follow me across the river. They can come over the bridge but not the water it seems. They come to the edge of the river and stop. If provoked further they will pursue you across, but should you need to run, head for the water.

I believe this is due to the fact that they pursue through scent.

Crawlers can't swim.. or can they..?
# Nov 15 2007 at 4:27 AM Rating: Decent
This is true to some extent... I was heading towards Giddeus to level thf just now, and decided to test this little theory... It didnt work, I did a ranged attack and ran across the river, and while running I looked back and it crossed the river!

I tried it a second time, but it still came at me, I circled around a bridge and to my amazement, it stopped midway into the river o.O

I walked onto the bridge right near it, turn my camera around for a second, and by the time I looked back, it was gone, nowhere in sight at all! it was weird.. or maybe it walked off somewhere and I didn't catch it, I really don't know what happened, because I looked in all directions and it was nowhere to be seen..

Maybe its not that they cant swim, its just that they melt when they walk into bodies of water XD hehehe.

Stealing Silk Thread
# Dec 31 2005 at 4:20 PM Rating: Decent
I have been able to steal Silk Threads, not on Crawler in Saru, but from the Goblin Weavers in and around the Horuto areas. MOst steals are beastcoins, 5/8 of the time, 2/8 are grass threads and 1/8 are silk threads.

Um i have noticed that it's easier to get drops at lower lvl, but later on i noticed that i got the same amount of drops as a lvl 31mnk and i haven't seen a difference in drops, they either drop like mad, or you can kill 80 of them before you get a single silk thread, but all in all it's definately worth the 60k on the unicorn server
slik thread vs moat carp
# Sep 14 2005 at 3:35 PM Rating: Decent
hrmmm i think that silk thread sell for 50k a stack on my server caitsith. While this is about 10x higher than the general price of a stack of moat carp i was wondering if anyone has any comparison rate for the drop rate of silk vs using insect paste to fish up moat carp. 5k a stack if i can pull it it fast i can still make more consistent money...

id suggest a lv 15 theif no subjob (if you have subjob on its able to be taken off) or if you dont have theif any lv 10 just dont farm it kill em 1-2 at a time and youll do fine i have a lv 15 theif and tried it but still odnt get as much thread as i would my lv 10 ranger ^^ and ranger has high damaging hit so its easier but if you dont have theif lv 15 or special class try a lv 10 war i heard there pretty decent
Farming Tip
# Dec 25 2004 at 11:03 PM Rating: Decent
Your level DOES matter when farming. I made a new character on a different server and leveled it to 15THF/1RNG, as opposed to 35THF/17RNG back on Sylph. Lo and behold, I can now get a stack of silk threads in 45 mins to an hour, instead of an hour and a half.

I bet TH2 makes up for this and more, though.
Odd coloured name...
# Nov 25 2004 at 7:35 PM Rating: Decent
I only started a few weeks ago and can kill these pests in a few hits, but I remember when I was just starting that I saw a crawler with a orange name instead of the usual yellow. And when I killed it, it gave me no xp. Anyone know why?
RE: Odd coloured name...
# Nov 27 2004 at 4:21 PM Rating: Decent
Orange names are when people call for help on a monster. This gives no exp or items

as far as i know, you cannot steal silk from a "crawler" (the type of crawler found in Sarut.). however, you can steal them from a "carnivorous crawler", like the ones found in the sha. maze.

my thf is only lvl 15, so i have not confirmed this - i will post if i succeed.

I've been using my THF for some time now and I'm Windhurstian so I do most of my lvling in and around Saruta, so I've had quite a bit of experience with Crawlers and after nearly 500 unsuccessful attempts at stealing Thread from them, I would say that it is not possible. I have stolen Saruta Cotton from Mandragoras though on numerous occasions and it is possible, yet even w/ Treasure Hunter, no they do not drop from them.

Now, some people say "Oh, those silk threads don't sell for much". And you know what I say to people who say that? Well, I say "I wil buy them off you for 100 gil apeice". And it works! I got 4 stacks sold already. One of the stack by doing what I just mentioned. Now I know your thinking "Ok, hes a jerk" but c'mon. Don't tell me you wouldn't do the same thing.

I've been camping these things for about two weeks straight now. I've noticed that when you finally do get a drop, another one isn't far behind. But after that, it's awhile before you get another one. The upside though is that I was able to lvl my thief up to 12 just by hunting these. I've use steal everytime it's available (which means I've probably used it about 100 times) and not a single success. It's allot of work to get a stack of threads (usually takes my thf three hours), but the 11k is very worth it.

Hmm, up above it says that the crawler drops Crawler Eggs but this particular crawler doesn't actually make that drop.

If you have a high level theif and try to steal from crawlers will your success be better or will you still often come out empty handed?

Ive spent many a day hunting Crawlers in the Sars and the is one tread i have noticed. Crawlers come n Pairs. If pops out of the ether then anouther probably poped near by.
Hope this helps. After you kill one always look for the other

I'm a level 31 Thief/7 Ranger- would I be better off switching to a low-level job to get silk threads or sticking with a thief- and if I should switch what's the best level to be at to get the drops? Thanks ^^ .

I am gonna start playing FFX1 but I'm hearing that people are stealing weapons from other people. I don't mean common weapons I mean the rare and harder to get ones. Is this common? And how often do you hear about it?
