I was just walking over there, waiting for a new player in our LS that was lvl up in DUNES, i was going to scort him to jeuno
Then something agroo (im RDM/WHM 64), turn my head back and there he was: Bloodtear Baldurf
I was helping a friend before with Kazham Keys, so i was not using all my "REAL" RDM stuff, just the AF, the rest was heavy ATTACK oriented, Amenint Mantle,Sword Belt,Spike Earrings, Tiger Sole, hell even just a Lighting bow and some lvl 10 arrows i cant remember lol (oh and a Gold Sword and Darksteel Buckler)
I start fighting this NM (returning fire if you want to call it that way), despite everything all my Enfeelbing landed smoothly, but after about 3 mins i realized this guy its really hard lol (i as taking him with just stoneskink, phalanx, enthunder, shockspikes, refresh and haste all the time), i spot a RDM 70 on choocbo and he was watching the fight (cant remember his name now, sorry if you are reading this, thanks by the way)i invited him and we where abre to finish this guy, after a long long fight, i tanking him most of the fight (my gear was as ATT oriented that i end up hiting more criticals so the RAM did not stop looking at me much :P) it took about 15-18 mins (lol) and need to convert in one point, othet that we where never in Danger
Funny stuff: i invited a BST 32 too hahaha, why? i just recive a cure (at start) from someone right after i send the invite to the RDM, did not check his/her job and just invite the one that drop the cure.....and i was the BST, he/she jump and meele a bit just to end up sitting back after lots of miss, miss, misss and 0 hits :P
A MNK friend was coming 2 but never got in time, in fact he got lost (took the wrong way and was in one of those cliffs in the area), he start hitting the ram when it was in his last 400-500 HP :P
The EX/RARE item was droped, me and the RDM pased MNK got it, at the end there was a huge collection of people with AFs and high lvl gear around us, after the fight most of them teleport or warp themself :P

I am very angry with S.E.... Me and 4 ls mates were killing this guy when 3 of us got dc'd, and Znoa a pld in full adaman came up and killed it from about 5 % according to the 2 that got killed... I was tanking it as 73whm/rdm, and we were doing a great job taking it down... then all of a sudden R0...
My internet never went down, it was a pol server error. 2 ppl got killed because SE decided that it would be a good time to boot us >.<
P.S. about 2 weeks ago the same thing happened in a BCNM 40 2 out of 3 of us got D/C'd loosing the fight and the 40 seals... I'm starting to wonder what I'm paying for :(
*EDIT* we were out there trying to spawn lumbering lambert for the horn and prolly woulda left this guy alone but after 6 hrs of camping him we were desperate and decided to try the big guy... Oh and they were blatently ignored when they asked to be invited to lot the horn... A nice wasted effort for the remarkable job we did.. I was the only person above 60 in the pt, the D/C problems have been happening since SE put "measures" in place to stop the DDoS attacks, I have a feeling that my D/C troubles are part of the soloution... all 3 of us play thru the same connection(roommates) and this is getting very irratating. As it has been happening all too often, if I lost service on my end I wouldn't have been able to post this... Damn it >.< Pissed! =O

Erm...have you considered the distinct possibility that you get lagged out alot because you have three people, all fighting at once, sharing the same internet connection? oO;>

So i voked it off them, trying to play hero..........it was me who was the n00b, one hit, and i started running like crazy to the Valk zone, it used mighty strikes and took me out in about 11 hits. /cry You'll be mine one day, i will solo you.

Does anyone know the exact respawn time? I know it used to be 21-24 hours but now im hearing that it changed. Something like 24-27. If anyone has this information it would be appreciated.

I was running back from Valkurm Dunes as a 13 Black Mage, so proud that I'd learned Fire so I was goofing around and casting it on random things. I was stupid enough to put my macro as (targetnpc)(/ma "Fire" <t>) I fired my Macro off when he popped, I meant to hit a Steppe Hare. I noticed that I was targeted to Bloodtear Baldurf as soon as it casted, he turned around, and knocked me through the ground. at first I was a little suprised, then it ended in me and my linkshell laughing like maniacs about it and my stupidity (note: not one of my Macros has "Targetnpc" anymore)
Awhile back (3-6 months ago) i was lvling my mnk, about lvl 10 and I was lucky enough to witness this guy slaugter an ungodly amount of ppl... so many lvl 9-15 dead, lol
one guy was stupid enough to attack him as like a lvl 14 drk after he wiped out a couple lvl 20s..

A cool lvl 60-70 drk came and butchured it...

Just took this guy out...
Me, 60 DRG/WAR, 60RNG, 75BLM, 73 WHM... did it with ease, almost no cureing needed.. Ranger pretty much tanked the whole fight with utsusemi.. This guy uses Mighty Stikes about every 2-3 minutes... You get a pretty cool title as well :)

I HATE THIS RAM~!!!! Okay, really I just hate my stupidity! I'm going along and I kill Lumbering Lambert as a 38pld/war (almost lost, but won thanks to a few cure III's thrown at me by passing ppl, LOL) ... so a number of days later i'm 40pld/20war and see a ram.. I didnt realize there was ANOTHER NM ram in the area, so i figured, hey, i can take it this time (assuming it's either regular RAM or lumbering)... welllll... to make a long story short... i voke, never hit it once, in 5 hits i'm dead. I dlvl and am ticked because i had just sent back all my armor below lvl 40 to the friend i had borrowed from! I thankfully got a raise which gave me just enough xp back to put me back at 40 (whew, thanks Shadowfool) and get to watch an LS alliance of ppl in AF gear kill the ram.
I'm still ticked tho... one day i'll have my revenge ><

My personal experience (Unicorn server) with this bad boy was rather humorous. I knew better than to attack him knowing full well he is definately no Lumbering Lambert. I was on a chocobo and watched a very unaware lvl 15/no sub run right by him. Like stated above, it's like watching someone magically bounce elsewhere and fall down as a limp rag. At the time I was a lvl 42 rdm and felt beyond sorry for the little taru. I waited for Bloodtear to run off before I raised him, but low and behold! He scented the newly raised taru and smacked him dead in one hit, then turned on me. I ran far from him and even checked to make sure he was way behind me!....then was 'drawn in' to him...similar to tractor ^^ As you can imagine, <death> is the end to my story. There is no escaping, at least that easily lol. :)

Bloodtear Baldurf is responsible for the funniest thing I have seen while playing ffxi.
I'm a THF63/NIN31 who is well-informed about Notorious Monsters, so when I was cruising through La Thiene on a chocobo and saw BB, I knew I should not dismount and try to fight him.
Instead, I shout "Bloodtear Baldurf at <pos>! Come kill him if you can!"
I stay safe on my chocobo expecting to grab some popcorn and watch the fight, when I see this THF30/RNG FLEEING TOWARDS Baldurf, weapon in hand.
What I wouldn't give to have recorded a video of this!

Me and ls friend were in Davoi when a ls member told everyone Bloodtear was wandering around unclaimed. So me a 60 thf at the time w/o any armor really, 60 drg 61 rdm and 36 whm took it on. Me and the Drg ran over as fast as we could to H-8 were we seen our whm and rdm friends /follow Bloodtear. I started off with a SATA before anyone could grab him. Let me tell you this guy has some bad acuracy, when id get hate off the drg he hit me once every 15 hits or so. That gave me time to recast utsusemi incase he did hit me hard. He used Mighty Strikes 5 times, and Max HP down 3 times. Took us about 7-10 mins to kill him because hes got quite abit of HP. The Drgs wyvern got the final hit that killed this guy, lol. In the end we did get the Viking Shield and i got to sell it for 1.7mil but got 1.8mil for it, split 4 ways for about 450,000ish.
Other Info:
He's a spawn of a Spawn, you need to kill the normal rams to spawn lumbering lambert to spawn Bloodtear, and even then hes about a 60-72hr spawn. The Battering Rams spawn every 15 mins and Lambert spawnd for me and my friend (camping him Bloodtear out of bordom) about 45 mins of killing Battering rams. Rams spawn around H-8 > H-10ish

Wow, so im coming from sandy- A level 24/10 war/monk. Im out leveling my polearm skill cuase i wanna be a Dragoon. And I see this big Ram, Of coarse i think its the battering ram and i almost attack it but right before i do i see its name and i check it, Impossible to guage so i check with my ls and they say "RUN FOR YOUR LIFE UNLESS U WANT TO DIE!" and this is soemthing coming from level 60s. Any ways I contact a 62 theif in the area and he goes to fight it. Well he ends up loosing half of his health and he runs and uses perfect dodge and a scroll of insant warp. , Then i contact a level 75pal and he says "Uhh shure ill come get it." So then he starts to fight it and like 15 more ppl sohw up and he says its his LS members. Well the fight lasts for like 20 minuetes cuase he didnt have the right weaponms on him and well finally he wins and well nothing drops. He let me have everything and the ex/rare item for some quest in Norg. So i come off with a bunch of skins, a horn and a rare/ex. Also a title of Hornsplitter and ive got to say, from all these posts, its always the little guy who finds this.
one thing >> if I'm correct... you cant trade Rare/ex's o.o

I'm guessing that he was invited to the PLD's party, but just stay a fair distance away.

The person said he got "The Hornsplitter" title...that means that he/she was in the party.
Lmao i remember me and my friend running around together beating rams at lvl 24 and there was that ******* lvl 70 killing rams on us so Bloodtear happen to spawn oviosly we couldnt win but we had to to claim it and run just to keep it away from the ******* she was fliping saying ill give you each 400k blah blah blah LOL we kept running with it behind us and we told our LS friends and a few high levels came and beat it for us that girl was so pissed i loved every minute of it. We split the sales and me and my friends each made about 300k one of the items was i think called Viking sheild.

I was a lvl 19WAR/9MNK coming back from V. Dunes to buy stuff in Sandy. As i'm walking along in La Theine i realized i hadn't visited the crag yet so i decided to make a detour there. Remember i'm a noob, So i just finished getting a warp crystal and on my merry way i went to sandy.Well imagine my surprise when along the way the ground starts shaking, I change my camera angle to get a better view as to what was going on, Low and behold right there, only a couple feet away was the Bloodeater. Needless to say as soon as i saw it and how GODLY HUGE it was, i flipin ran for my life, not that it did any good cause it spotted me and decided to pick on those weaker than it,(like many of us do when we reach a high lvl and try to see what we can kill in one blow). Luckly it didn't kill me in one blow......It needed 2......I died. There is a moral to this story, and that moral is: Visiting the crag to get a teleport crystal just isn't worth it.
lol my lv 71 pld ls leader almost soloed this guy @.@, thats right almost soloed but a couple ppl(including me) gave some cures here and there
took him about 7-9 min but he whooped its *** with savage blade he didnt get anything though :/

If people are good at their job, any NM is no problem. I was farming rams (56 RNG/NIN) and of course withing the second spawn of rams there is Bloodtear. I /tell my friend and he tele's then choco's over and vokes him. We partied up and this gimp was done in 5 minutes. 71 NIN and 56 RNG finished this thing in that time. No damage taken be either, but of course, no drop. Hope this helps on who/what jobs can take this n00b.

i was in sandoria as my 69nin/32thf just came back from farming. I got a /tell from a friend say someone saw Bloodtear in La Theine unclaim. So i hop on a chocobo and check it out. I arrive at the place but couldn't find him. So i did a shout "anyone saw a giant ram?" no answer.. so i went a bit farther and saw Bloodtear unclaim for like 10 min lol. Usually when someone saw it, in a matter of minute all of Vanadiel know about it. So I /tell my friend i got him, I was soloing it for a good 4-5 min and my friend arrived. It use HP down on me first minute into the fight.. i was at 297 hp.. It never even hit me once.... we got the kill. As the list of item drop scroll down my screen i see skin skin SHIELD!! i was happy <3, it goes for 3mils on my server ^^. It was my First NM tanking as a ninja ^^

I'm still a lowely warrior at 26, but I carry the Title of Hornsplitter... I got the call on the linshell that this bad boy was running around La Theine... I was on my choco in Jugner Forest so I made haste. Upon arriving to (H-9) one of our LS was stalling... I took a few pics and jumped into the fray... Moments later the Bloodtear took an obscene amount of damage (I even got one hit in for 2 hp) and in less than two minutes it fell. A crowd had gathered and they stuck around for a bit, had a few drinks and waved goodbye.
