Met this fella today by chance, didn't even know it existed it. Easy battle overall (51drk), but used blood weapon after a 270 damage sickle slash just to be safe, didn't need it.
Dropped 1856 gil and a spider web...oh well, not like I'd need that scythe anyway.

Falcatus Aranei's Special Attacks
Historical InformationThe falcata is a type of sword typical of pre-Roman Hispania (the Iberian Peninsula, modern Spain and Portugal), similar to the Greek kopis or Nepalese kukri. The term falcata is not ancient. It seems to have been coined by Fernando Fulgosio in 1872, on the model of the Latin expression ensis falcatus "sickle-shaped sword" (which, however, refers to the Harpe). He presumably went with falcata rather than falcatus because the Spanish word for sword espada is feminine, although there are other presumable theories. The name caught on very quickly, and is now firmly entrenched in the scholarly literature. The orb-weaver spiders (family Araneidae) are the builders of spiral wheel-shaped webs often found in gardens, fields and forests. Their common name is taken from the round shape of this typical web. Orb-weavers have eight similar eyes, legs hairy or spiny and no stridulating organs. The family is cosmopolitan, including many well-known large or brightly colored garden spiders. There are more than 2,800 species in over 160 genera worldwide, making this the third largest family of spiders known. As such, the Falcatus Aranei would come to mean "sickle-shaped sword orb weaver" or an orb weaver with a sickle shaped appendage.

me (WAR30/NIN15) and my 42 rdm friend were looking for morion worm and we came across this thing.. not knowing its level we attacked. It owned us.. we got it to about half hp before it kill my friend.. luckily a 60 + sam accepted my pty invite and finished it off.

Do you think a 48 Paladin would be able to handle him?... I tried looking for him earlier... i was able to handle a link lol i had 6 of them on me.. one of them asleep... by the end of that i have half my mp left... and 1/4 Hp.... But do you think i could handle him at 48... or should i wait till 52?...

i soloed this guy at lvl 54 easily, i even handled a link. got 2 spider webs. nuke, sleep nuke sleep , it was pretty easy

Well I have been campin this guys fro hrs let's say @ least since about 12 pm it's now 10:30. I'm a 54 smn and a friend 63 drk/thf and we have only poped this guy 3x even thought we are masacring the huge spiders ; ; no drop yet hoping to get it on the 4th ; ;. and about the location it's J-7 exactly on the top floor to the right side if u come from bastok mines
I was XPing off the Huge Spiders last night at level 32 and this guy pops. At the time, I knew nothing about him. Fearing that someone else will run in and claim him, I decide to throw a CrabFamiliar at him while I rest and regen (I was down to about 200HP, 50MP). Well it literally ate my Crab for breakfast. I had cleared the room already of Spiders but luckily one popped as I was running for another pet. I grabbed the Spider, pitted it against the NM. Tried to go down to heal again but Falactus went threw him instantly too. This guy threw around Sickle Slashes like it was going out of style. I continued to marathon it with just random Spider pops and the 3 pugils until finally the Sea Monk spawned and I used my two hour and had him beat up on Falactus. This allowed me to heal a bit. I tossed another CrabFamiliar at him as I made my way to the Clipper room, grabbed another Pugil and finished him off. It was quite a marathon to say the least. 6 Spiders, 2 Pugils, 2 Crab Familiars, and a Sea Monk to take this guy out. Only got a Spider Web, but hey, I solo'd a pretty tough NM at only level 32. /cheer

I tried this guy as level 55 WAR with BST sub, I was down to about 700hp, and saw him, so I provoked, charmed another spider, and went at this guy... Wow, he kicked my butt. I ended up using my 2hr once I got scared... I started doing a bunch of damage, had him down to about 1/3 health, and he finished me. It really sucked. Then a lvl 62 PLD/THF finished him off, said he didn't get the scythe though.
Could be he has a larger level range... maybe from like 33 - 50+, much like the Goblin Archaeologist.

He was a breeze for a 55MNK. Both times, I had a few spiders attacking me as well.

I'm 56, killed it 4 times *no (!*&@ing scythe* and got 1200 gil and 3 webs off him each time. but not one exp. 84 means he was at least T to you, you sure you arnt a 45 mnk? posible mistype i mean.
did get a good laugh when it ate a 44 bst who walked by it before i got to him tho. She attacked it and he cut her to shreds in about 30 seconds.

That means the one you fought was level 32.

just for the info, i kill the NM spider while lvl my bst. i had to trow about 10 mob to him to die.
but i was able to get him down... Crabs pugils and leechs work well. i was lvl 31 at that time... luckly i had no fail on my charm. after that i sold my frostreaper and use the webcutter... lol
he drops 1200 gil, a spider web and the scythe (webcutter)

I attempted to kill this guys this AM, after camping for 2 days.
I got him down to 1/2 health by charming the nearby creatures, but I had no mana left when I died. I could have played it a little safer, but I failed. I reraised and was going to go after him again, when a party took him from me and got the drop. They were nice enough to let me in the party to lot on the item. I lost the lot. Anyway, unless you get REALLY lucky, don't plan on getting the item at my level solo.

I do not know the exact coordinates for this NM since I can't find an online map for Korroloka, but from the clipper cave on the upper level... just head east and stay along the north wall for 1 or 2 map squares until you see reach a dead end with pugils and a clam. Just before this dead end are a horde of spiders... Falcatus will spawn among these spiders. Be careful of links if you decide to fight it.

I decided to give Falcatus a shot with my 31/15 BST/WHM. Only reason I died was linking issues, I'd estimate Falcatus to be approx Lv35-37. (An EM spider (Lv31) was doing 35-40 to Falcatus, Falcatus was doing 55-60 back.) Of course, Falcatus has _FAR_ more HP than the normal 35-37, after about 4-5 DC-EM spiders, Falc was only down to about 60-70%. Just my experiences with this NM.

Hiya :) I was camping morion today when i went to check the mid section and targeted this thing through the wall :) Found out it was an nm so i decided to take a chance and find out how hard it was :) Im a lv 48 pld and had thf sub which was only 15 i went into the fight with 780 at best (mithra) and about 110 mp at the time and it took me down to 119 hp and about no mp :) i was shocked when i saw hes was lv 44-46 i think thats wrong otherwise there would have been no way i would have killed him :) maybe just lucky but he dropped 2spider things and the sickle ^^

This mob is around lv 44-46. My lv 56 Pld can easily solo it leaving me 60% mp. It's Sickle Slash hits a little harder so stun it if you can. I would say minimum lv to solo is 50, however a PT of lv 40's could easily take it out if they were balanced. Have killed it 4 times and had the Scythe drop once. Spider web is worth 5-6k and it also drops 1200 gil. Not bad for a 3 min battle considering the NM is up everytime I have passed through Korrolaka Tunnel.

level 50 BLM with all my spells. I sub lvl 15 THF when hunting Morion worm.
Walking by pressing tab, I targetted this thing through the wall so I went to go check it out. It doesn't aggro, just like regular spiders. But they do link, and link easily. Found that out the hard way, so trained all the spiders to the zone. Eventually, when the spiders walked back, the NM was by itself so I pulled it with Bio II, then used Bind on it (Big hint for BLMs doing this, Bind sticks easy on this guy). Popped 2hr, casted some nukes, including Freeze. Rebound when the Bind timer was up, repeat. Drain if I needed life. I ran out of MP and it only had a sliver of HP left when I fell over to eat the dirt. It dawned on me I should have been meleeing when Bind broke and I was waiting for the timer. I bet you I had a WS ready to use to finish it off. Oh well.
I'd approximate this NM to be at least level 45, max to be 50.

As a level 56 WHM, I still get 18-21 xp for the shadows in Fei'Yin (same level range as this NM supposedly is). Falcatus does not give me anything in the way of xp. She's no higher than level 43, but since she's an NM, people take her toughness to mean that she's higher level.
