So I've been trying to get this thing for like, ages(never got a buddy to come help me), and then last night, my best f-f-f-fwiend alvitu, THE 75 taru smn, jumps in and helps me! weeeee! So we arrive there and wait, killing cockatrices for two hours(apparently we just missed it) and this guy(another 75 taru smn O_o) comes in and we're like "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" and then after waiting another 15 mins alvitu asks him to help us and he joins! Like hell yeah! after waiting another 15 mins he FINALLY pops and we jump in and kill him in 3 seconds with predator claws and a hit with my scythe <.<.... he dies and I get my moldy!!! wooooooo....

So I'm camping him... and all my competition leaves after 2hrs of him not spawning, so I'm like allright!!
He pops... and proceeds to woop my 70rdm/blm ***... I started w/ 300% WS for like 300 damage, and then nuked him as I was told, chainspell, etc etc... got down to no mp, was meleeing, he was at half >.>
So I'm dead on the floor beggin LS to come, but they're all far away... then someone comes in and /cry's at me and I'm like "damn, they're gonna kill"
So he sends tell: "raise1 do you need it?" and I say yes... then he says: "Equip. you can have this"... surely he doesn't mean--

Mysticmaker killed you as a lvl 70 rdm/blm? That's just sad. Last time I solo'd him was as a lvl 65 rdm/nin with no shihei for utsusemi, and he aggro'd me with 2 other gobs when i only had 200mp. You went about soloing him completely the wrong way....

my LS mate told me that he had low enough HP and was dangerous enough at close range that you should nuke him down quickly and have no problem...
obviously that is not true at all, as I've since learned. There's not a reason why you should lose at 70 unless you have been given the wrong information.

could a 60 RDM/BLM or /NIN do this if not can it b duoed by a 60 RDM/BLM /NIN and a 60 MNK/WAR?

Went to Onzozo to farm Cockatrice meat, walked in and bumped into him. "That's a funny name for a gob", I thought. Popped a CourierCarrie, which pulverized the poor little thing.
I think I'm going to drop the earring, my BLM's only 23 and I don't think I'll ever level it up.

i went 4/5 on this mob, i'm a claiming machine not bragging but you know, i'm sam so when i go to camp i'm sam/nin solo sam/war with friends one sam two hour willl anihlate this bad boy, the time i got iut for my dark knight i got it on the first try, i was in the hospital that night just getting home i log on and noone is there only mystic so i pawned his gob's ***, nice earring well worth it, for that extra damage, so i'm just letting people know don't give up, rmt are not gods just bunch of brats trying to play god

this is not true, ima 74 drk stuned every big spell he threw at me lol. drop rate doesn't seem too bad me and a friend camped him together. 2/5 on drops with no TH. repop is is 2-2,1/2 hours window last for 30 min, most of the time he pops right around 15-20 min into window. there are no place holders for this NM he is not a loto spawn. over all this is a pretty easy NM if ur high lvl, idk wat he's like at low lvls. well thats it from me and good luck camping mystic everyone.

I was bord on Saturday and decided to go camp Mysticmaker for fun. After about an hour and a half I got claim beating out a 75thf and 75blm. >.> luckly they were preoccupied. After getting hit with tornado, freeze, and flare and lots of other magic spells I finally killed him. Was the first time i got claim on him and the earring droped. I also got Thunder III. I was very happy that I got it. One less thing I need to worry about^^

Only killed it twice so far. RMT's on Odin are camping this thing like crazy atm. There is an alliance of them and they are always there.
One claim was me <Taru 63rdm/31nin> and a 75 blm. No drop.
Tried again later on my own and was thinking it would be a tough fight since the mobs there still aggro'd me as a 63rdm/31nin, but it was easy as hell. He did 0 damage on me and I had almost full mp by the time the fight was done (I think about 596/651 or something with refresh still up lol). He used his manafont and AM but shadows take care of AM and other annoying ga spells.
If you're a lvl 60rdm/30nin or even a lower lvl with a good head on your shoulders you can solo this thing no problem so long as you can take care of links in a timely manner.
For the moment I'm giving up on this NM as new rmt's have joined with the old ones and now mysticmaker spawns claimed. The first thing you see when he spawns is a claimed mob, he is never unclaimed ; ;
I'll give it a few weeks or so and start trying again.
(Reported this to a gm and he said there was nothing he could do, as they always say ><)

Got the drop finally. He really isn't a very hard NM, even as /blm. Just use bar spells to combat ga's and move out of range for AoE.

If the Moldavite is a Rare/Ex, why would RMTs even bother? I mean granted it would help Sky/Sea RMT mages, but still kind of extrenuous. Unless done out of spite....
A large amount of RMT are BLMs so they can manaburn HNMs (yes, you still can manaburn HNMs), and eventually RMT get decent gear instead of the normal crappy gear you see them wearing. This earring is one of the best earrings for BLM so that is why they camp it.

A couple of my friends from the linkshell and I decided to camp this NM since a few of us had been needing the earring for quite some time. The first pop, we lost claim to a NIN75. The second pop...I don't remember what we lost claim to. Third time was a MNK75. 8 hours later, the fourth time he comes around, we lost claim yet again...this time to a RDM75, I belive. What I don't understand is this: Why are melee characters killing a mob for an earring that benefits mages? I found it very frustrating since BLM pretty much *need* this earring. I guess I'll have to go try again sometime.

A lot of people level up more then 1 job. =/ You also don't need to level ONLY DD jobs if you have a DD job over 70 and ONLY tank jobs if you have a tank job over 70.
My guess would be that they're looking to level up BLM, RDM, or BLU sometime soon if they haven't already done so. Just because you see a MNK75 doesn't they don't have a BLM 60 or something like that.
I've been wanting to get the Modavite Earring ever since I hit lvl 47, but always hated camping NMs, especially when I read that this had a respawn time of 2 hours. Well last night me (53blm/26rdm) and my friend (70sam/35war) were bored so he asked if I wanted to go there and camp it. I had nothing better to do so I was like sure. When we got there there were 2 people (75thf/5war) and (60war/30thf). The whole time they just stood there not doing anything. From the looks of it, it looked like they weren't there for the Earring. I sent them both a tell asking if thats what they were there for. No response. I was thinking that if they were there for any of the other drops I could join them, lot on the earring, and they could have all the other stuff. Still no response. We were there no more than 10 minutes and he spawned. All of a sudden the War went after him. He used Provoke but got the Cockatrice that was in front of it. I casted Stun on the Gob and claimed him. After I got claim, the 75Thf started moving. My friend killed it with no prob and we got the drop, as well as 3K, scroll of Thunder IV, gob mask, and gob armor. As soon as we killed it, they both warped out.
I was so excited and laughing so hard at the same time. The War prob used a macro with <bt>, and thats why he got the Cockatrice. I though it was funny. But hey, I got my earring on the first try.

Ok, here's my story ^^
i went last night and thought, i'll get ToD. I went rdm/nin just in case i got claim, i thought wth. So i went and i was worried about getting aggro but i tested the mobs and the gobbies and cockatrices did not aggro to me at 66. this boosted my confidence a lot! There was one other person there afk and i figured they must be camping it, oh well its only one person. I started killing gobbies so that they wouldn't link when Prof popped. Suddenly he popped right in front of the other camper XD !! i started spamming diaII macro while Prof starts casting and i think sh*t he's aggro'd the other camper, he was looking straight at him lol. Well anyway i got claim and Prof was actually casting blaze spikes lol. I was about half MP from killing gobbies and my protect/shell had just worn, so i start rebuffing while he's swinging at me. I was RDM 66 / NIN 17 (yes i know way underlvl'd lol) dual weilding Hornetneedle (<3) and platoon dagger, and just wailing on him with enspells. He dropped my stoneskin a few times over all but he really didn't hit very hard at all. His spells hit for more, but still not a big problem. One of his fire II's got resisted to 53 lol. Eventually he got pissed and started casting Tornado. I jump to attention and get Utsusemi: Ichi up, shadow absorbed AM, np carry on with fight. Every time TP was 150+ I used energy steal to get some MP back. He did cast Aspir and it was a real pain not to be able to aspir it back lol.The only other AM he tried to cast was Freeze but i put Shadows up again but he got interrupted anyway. As i had read that he is very resistant to silence i didn't even try to land it, his spells really didn't hit that hard. I must have recast stoneskin 3 or 4 times and thats all. Because i started at half MP (just over, something like 300 call it 2 thirds (hume)) and he was aspiring me, i got to low MP and decided to convert to be safe. I put up a fresh shadows and stoneskin, converted without a problem. At this point i knew i'd beaten him and it hadn't been hard. He fell, dropped Moldavite and some gobbie armour. I was so freakin happy to have got earring 1/1 i checked inventory 3 times. just as i'm dancing in /em's a Taru came along and it was obvious he was wanting to camp Prof. I told him i'd just killed it and he'd be back in approx 2 hours. He thanked me for letting him know. I did some test nukes on the pugs and snippers in bubu and was fairly pleased with the results (nothing major just threw out some nukes with different earrings on)
So my advise to anyone wanting this earring is go for it! I think i got very lucky with the drop rate, because i know some people don't get it for 20 kills ><. The NM itself was not hard for me using /nin even though it was well underlvl'd. This is probably the best NM i've ever camped lol, his strict adherance to pop times helps a lot, i wish more NM's acted that way lol.
If anyone is interested my gear (apart from weapons i already mentioned) was full AF, cunning earrings, zircon/aquamarine rings (swapped in specific macro'd spells) RK belt+1 (on my server, the +1 is cheaper then NQ and +2) spider torque Red cape +1 and Phantom Tathlum. As you can see i am not rich, my gear is relativly cheap if not plain a$$ free lol.

Mysticmaker is immune to Silence, Stun, and Sleep. I've heard people claim to have seen one of them land, but they resist even with Elemental Seal and 265 Enfeebling. So basically, don't expect them to work at all.
Everytime I've camped it, the repop was exactly 2:15 after dying.
He seems to have a penchant for Aeroga 2, so putting up Baraera wouldn't be a bad idea. Counter his AM casting by just tossing up the appropriate Barspells.

Just coincidence for those of you wondering. While camping last night he spawned 2hrs 25mins after last ToD. Just now he spawned 2hrs 2mins after last ToD. I'm willing to say that the window of 2hrs-2hrs 30mins is fairly accurate.
/sigh 6/14 on claiming him w/out drop.

I have waited till i hit level 70blm/35rdm so i can solo this nm but have wanted the earring since 47 ; ; so the past 4 days i have camped this him and i went 1/6 , i got well and truly fed up with not getting the drop i managed to get a friend of a friend to help me who was a 75thf with a thief knife, he pops get the claim and then dropped no problem so my advice to all you you wanting to camp him is go and get the ToD and then find a hi level thief to come and help, people are far more willing to come and help on timed nm spawns (he pops anywhere between 2-2.30 hours) when you have the ToD as it wont ***** up there day too much. Also i have found that this mob is sometimes not camped, out of the 4 days i was there on two occasions i was the only one there, thats on garuda but all other times there was about 6-8 people all waithing for the pop.
If you do want to solo him as a 70blm/35rdm he was a real tough fight when i dint have manafont avalibe and to be honest i would have probaly died even with yag drinks etc.
I would Like to thank Spencer and Ava for helping with this drop and keeping me from going insane.

I was campin him as 73blm/whm when I finally got claim on 4th pop I saw. I got him down to about 20% HP when I had to sleep him and rest mp when a 75war says he'll help and invites me to his party. I accept, he kills and I get drop ^^ 1/1 on this guy and not even TH1....kinda makes up for the endless hours I've spent camping other NM's for no drop.
I probably could have killed him myself if he didn't sleep me right after I used manafont and didn't wake me up till it was gone -_-

Interesting story. I religiously camped Mysticmaker for about 3 weeks back in Feb. Even made a little post describing my anguish. All I wanted the earring for was my fight with Maat. I got discouraged with camping and only getting 2/30+ claim attempts. I ended up fighting maat without it, won on 2nd try(whole other story). Tonight(7 months later) after getting done with everything, I figure wth, I'll go sit and see if anyone else is there. Two others, and I happened to be there and he pops almost right when I arrive! Naturally I wasn't prepared to get claim, so I lost it. Waited almost exactly 2h15mins later, and BAM, right in front of me. I subbed /war for voke...and thank god I did. Ended up snatching claim, and proceeded to kick his <too weak> butt. I ended up as always, with almost all my HP and half MP....then I look......Moldavite Earring! Holy Crap! Then, all of a sudden.....I see my signal going slower....and slower, and slower. I lost internet connection ><! Luckily, by the time I got back on, I still had the earring and hadn't lost it during D/C.
Long story short...Many of the things in this game take much more time than they should, and many times aren't worth the time we put into acquiring them. However, with persistence and dedication...you WILL get what you need(want). Just don't give up. (but if you do, try again in 7 months! ;-)
I'll try to post appropriately whether or not this was worth the trouble.

just got this guy! so happy. it popped right in front of a thf and she mistargeted XD 1/5 now! so glad i dont have to go back ther anymore.
It does seem now that it will pop anywhere between 2h00 and 2h30.
first time camping it today popped around 2h20 again, the second time it popped 2h12.

I'm not leveling blm again till I get this earring...but I'm not very excited about going to camp him...I have a friend in my LS who is 75 blm and just now got this. He is now 1/60 on it. <_>

every time before ive camped this its popped either 2h 2h15 or 2h30 bang on the dot after ToD.
we got tod this time and it pops 2h21.
so it seems it no longer pops on the dot 2h00 2h15 or 2h30 exactly
grrrrr
