Hippolytos' Special Attacks
Historical InformationIn Greek mythology, Hippolytus ("looser of horses") was a son of Theseus and either Antiope or Hippolyte. He was identified with the Roman forest god Virbius. The most common legend regarding Hippolytus states that he was killed after rejecting the advances of Phaedra, the second wife of Theseus and Hippolytus's stepmother. Spurned, Phaedra convinced Theseus that Hippolytus had raped her. Infuriated, Theseus believed her and, using one of the three wishes he had received from Poseidon, cursed Hippolytus. Hippolytus' horses were frightened by a sea monster and dragged their rider to his death. Alternatively, Dionysus sent a wild bull that terrified Hippolytus' horses, causing them to drag Hippolytus to his death.

Decided to try this thing out at level 47. Everything was going fine till he activated Hundred Fists on me. I got pretty lucky and walked away with 80/805 HP left and only a pair of Gigas Socks.

what i was trying to say was... This NM is easily soloable to me as a 50pld/thf15...doesnt take much...1 cure III after 100 fists and maybe a protect 2

i love to kill this guy, when he activates 100 fists, ill do the same and its just awesome watching the carnage ^^. also a side note, ALL giant nms so far drop socks 100% ive killed 4 different ones (3 of em multi times) and socks every time, never a pair of gigas bracelets or ogygos bracelets ><
I decided to grab the Gigas Bracelets for a friend one day, and I decided this mob would be the easiest way to grab a pair. I went to the place that the weakest of the NMs was, fought a couple, and he spawned. I buffed up and started to fight him. Unfortunately, what could've been an easy win was made tougher by a few things.
First off, at about 70% HP remaining, a Giant spawned and decided to link - I should've pulled it back a bit or something. I slept this one and continued to wail on Hippolytos.
Second, Hundred Fists. The NM decided to activate this, so I did the smart thing - I Gravity'd him, ran away, bound him, and tried to Sleep him. Once the Bind, Gravity, and Sleep wore off, the minute was up.
Anyway this guy went down when I had about 10% HP left. I got the Gigas Socks from it, sadly...

i was pulling for my party which was camped on the stairs and had been fighting giga's for hours. I asked them if they wanted to try it when i spotted it, they said "what the heck" so i pulled it knowing that we'd probably die but you know how we all get "NM fever" lol. so i pulled it and we were doing really good at first, we got it a little below half life and then the sucker used 100 fists and we were done for, the whm just couldn't keep up anymore and our whole party got whiped out. the party next to us then finished it off and then they were shouting about "wow we beat it!" and "OMG i can't believe we beat it" and i'm thinking "wow, big deal, we took 3/4 of it's hp and it used it's 2 hour already, real tricky"

Yea I saw an example of that tonight, to a higher extent, a pt attacked him while in combat with a giant guard. needless to say they were slaughtered because they wouldnt let me pull him away to save them. I ended up crushig him with the club i was lvling, ironically i finished him off with the brainshaker WS i learned in the fight. His hundred fists would be fearsome If he had landed even one hit on me, seems his ACC drops substantially when he pulls that out.
final insult? two members of that party stayed when i mentioned i could raise them. when I won the fight the lil prick told me If i got the drop it belonged to him and I had to hand it over.

Just got killed by this giant. Our party wanted to kill him, but two more giants aggroed. I had 1 HP left when I was about to zone to Qufim and got killed. =(
I was with a group recently fighting gigas on the 2nd floor. Our War went in to that room and saw this guy. We debated for about an hour if we wanted to try it since none of us had heard of it. We decided to do it, but got an unlucky link and had to zone. We lost a couple of people. After antoher hour, we made sure we -- carefully this time -- cleaned out the other gigas and took this dude on.
He hit 100 fists almost immediately and wailed on a couple of us pretty good. Our mages kept us going and we had him down to near death, but our mages were out of MP and we were all pretty close to dying as well. So, one of the WHM used benediction. The Hippolytos aggroed the mage and killed him quick, but it save the rest of us.
We got the socks -- gave them to the WHM for the sacrifice. It was a blast.
PT was Mnk, Thf, Warr, Rdm (??), Whm, Whm

i fought it at lvl 48 (WAR) at 95% health, was easy, but when it used 100 fists it became scary, i used avalanche axe twice, killed him. he got me down to 70/889 hp

all these things that aren't nm are marked as NM and here this NM that actually is an NM but isn't marked... it's on second floor of lower tower at E-8. .. and that damn giant centry will link (and his little bat too)

Agreed. This guy checked Impossible to Gauge on me, and knew it was an NM. I fought this with my RL friend MNK we're both 37 at that time, the fight was pretty ok (we did Gravitation on him for 98 for some reason), and when he dropped to 25%, for some reason I started seeing him whail on my butt really fast, so i'm like hmm, tried casting Cure III and got interrupted, by this time, I already figured he's using 100 Fists (out of a whim btw since he was just whailing like mad). So i used my 2hr (invul. I think around half of the way cause my PLD just kept parrying and shield blocking half of the time before I used invul. After i used invul, we proceeded to whopp on him. Too bad he only dropped the socks ; ; which my friend gave to me. Was funny seeing that it was cool to hunt a Gigas NM, but at the same time, we only had 2 people and we had to use my 2hr to kill it ; ;. I'll try next time when I get higher or bring prolly 2 more peeps to kill him fast enough before he can unleash hell with the 100 fists.

this is a Notorious Monster, but not listed in that section of this site. conned Impossible to Gauge to me at 57.
upon entering the tower turn left and go up the stairs in that room, after going up the stairs go down the only corridor leaving that room.
got socks and Maple Shield. and yes, used Hundred Fists.

Killed this NM last night for the first time with 2 of my LS buddies. He was located on the second floor. Come up the stairs and take the corridor to the very left. He was in the room with a Lobber. This NM is a monk, at half health he used 100 fists. All we got from him was a pair of Gigas socks. Quite disappointing to say the least.
1. This is a Giant, not a Demon.
2. I'm pretty sure it's in Delkfutt tower........
