I (RDM 72) solo'd this thing more or less for my bf (lvl 71 PLD).
We were damn lucky, we got down to the spawn point and there it was! Uncamped, no one around. I casted Gravity on it, could even recast sneak and kited it to the zone without aggro. The bad thing is, my bf had a long train so i had to "waste" all my mp to heal him, so we nearly got raped xD, zoned, got a few mp, zoned back in, kited it back to zone, and did that a few times til we had full mp and hp again.
I told my bf not to melee and i used a Ceremonial dagger and a bronze dagger. (rdm/nin)
I fought in errants gear to be sure not to make any melee dmg. I buffed up, Stoneskin, Phalanx, Utsu ichi, Blaze Spikes (for extra dmg), enfire of course Pro IV was active, and Refresh. I casted Paralye on it (and tried to keep it up) due to my Errants gear it proc'd very good what was saving me a lot of dmg XD
I tried to keep everything up, importanst was enfire to actually harm it.
if i was unable to recast my buffs, my bf tossed me a Cure to save my mps and i buffed back up and got hate back. The fight lasted loooong, had to Convert once, but we never was actually in danger, so very easy fight, just damn long.
Enspells made ~24dmg Blaze spikes was 11dmg and i casted Fire III to finish it off.
Of course jelly ring dropped, i made sure he has free inventory space and let him lot it.
We got damn lucky that Sewer was up.
Before a pld and a blm was down there and killed placeholders so we said we gonna go and leave them alone. As we came back they were gone and Sewer was there. I guess i used all my luck for my whole game life XD

Edit: ok, why did i get a rate down for this? lol

Edit#2: ok, it sounded a bit mean XD

Just finished camping this sucker for my Jelly Ring. Went with party 70pld, 73drk, 74rdm, 70blm, 69smn, and 68whm.
This fight was easy as cake because of our smn. He kept stoneskin up at all times while fighting the mousse's and the NM. Took care of all Fluid Toss's the enemys tossed at us. Had no near deaths at all when camping the nm and when fighting him.
So simple enough next time you go down and hunt this guy bring an nm to save the def weak members of your party. You'll be happy when you leave with the ring.
Thank you GoldenDawn for all the help getting it.

After killing ph's down here for nearly five hours i noticed a pattern with 1 slime. First they are 16 real life minute repops. And i've read that the 2 nearest slimes to the Haunt room are the ph's well after a few hours i noticed. One slime will pop either in the haunt room or out in the hall way. That's the PH i'm 99% certain. The other slime would always pop in the hallway no matter what. The NM popped off the rotation spawn location on for me at the 4.5 hour mark i guess i got there right after someone killed it.

Fight was easy as 75 thf/nin i just spammed bloody bolts for damage, took about a stack or so but since they kept me at full health the entire fight was really easy. Also bloodys will still do the additional drain effect even if your at full health. Took 18 mins to kill
Too weak

Went as NIN/RDM and owned it.. my nukes did 200dmg even though I was wearing my normal EXP gear. Very very weak.. Very very low accuracy. I could tank it in Ichi alone and with paralyze and blind stuck on it, it was just a joke.

Was using Earth Staff and without meleeing, it did Fluid spread all of 3 times in the fight XD.... this did nothing more than take 1 shadow off me. I was with a BLM/WHM but I don't doubt that this would be incredibly easy for a NIN to solo.

Anyways, we got drop... and I lost lot -_-; I may come back to solo it but infact the placeholders are much more troublesome than the NM itself.

BRD Solo

Tried to solo this yesterday as BRD/NIN. Wasn't too difficult. Took me quite some time to get it to 50%. Then I got Mousse aggro and hit it and a bat with Horde Lullaby. Didn't have any problems sleepign those and playing with the NM. Got the NM to 40% and then I managed to get blood aggro from a near by Haunt >< That got me and I rolled over and died.

Went again today. Killed PHs alone and then a SMN friend came and we owned stuff faster. NM popped and we started fighting. Beginning was really easy and it dropped to 60% fast. After that the SMN had used up all his MP and had to go to rest. I solo his hp down slowly and the SMN joins me again. I manage to get aggro from a Mousse and the SMN goes on to kill it. I loose some concentration and drop to somewhere around 500 HP. SMN finishes off the Mousse and Cures me, but is out of mp again so he goes to rest again. Fight starts going smoother and we get it's HP down to around 10%. Then at 6% the SMN gets unlucky and gets hit by Fluid Spread and dies. So I have to finish off the NM. Was doing fine till the last piece of excitment happens when the NM was at 2%.. I run out of utsu tools and don't notice it right away. I accidentally disengage the mob and my HP starts dropping fast. I manage to engage and the NM is at 1% I can't get my toolbags to work and just start spamming Viper Bite and that finishes off the NM finally >< Got my ring and was happy. Such an exciting fight.

Fight of about 5min as mithra RDM75/NIN37. Spawned after some time in the room among the 2 ghosts, like noted in many other posts. Bind -> sneak and ran to (Ronfaure) zone. Bound it again to buff and started fight.

Equipment used:
Martial Anelace & Hornetneedle
Phantom Tathlum
Warlock's chapeau (AF1)
Spectacles
Moldavite earring
Suppanomimi
Scorpion Harness
Zenith Mitts
Ether ring & Astral ring
Red Cape +1
Jungle Rope (4DEF MP+45 DEX-4 INT+5)
Warlock's tights (AF1)
Warlock's boots (AF1)

Vulcan's staff, Thunder Staff, Ice Staff

HP: 1014
MP: 728
3 MP merits, 6 dagger merits, 4 sword merits, 2 elemental magic merits

Skills: Dagger 252
Sword 252 + 5
Evasion 210 +10
Parrying 136
enhancing 270 +15
enfeebling 281
elemental 234 +10
ninjutsu 114

Usables used: neither food nor medicine

Time: Watersday, Last quarter moon 52%

Buffs used:Stoneskin, Phalanx, Utsusemi, Protect IV, Shell IV, Haste, Enfire

Fight:
originally i intended to melee it and nuke 1 or 2 before converting. But. . .
Enspell hit for 27-28dmg (Anelace did ~15dmg and Hornetneedle less then 10dmg). Burning Blade did roughly 450dmg (~100% TP with martial Anelace).
2min into the fight i started to nuke and convert.
Fire III with Vulcan's staff did ~750dmg, Thunder III with Thunder stuff almost 800, Blizzard III with Ice staff around 760dmg. Won fight around 5min after engaging with ~200MP and full HP. Most of the fight i could Utsusemi: Ni tank it. I took a ~200dmg "Fluid Toss" (1hit single target)through Stoneskin once and several "Fluid Spread" usually for less then 50dmg (dmg absorbed by stoneskin). I never took dmg from Digest (absorbs HP, single target 1 hit). Debuffs got never resisted (paralyze, slow, blind) and paralyze did work pretty well.

ergo: It's possible to melee it to death, For that i'd recommend using 2 150delay dagger since enspell is your real source of dmg. As dagger weaponskill use Gust Slash / Cyclone. A RDM/BLM with decent INT/MP gear should be able to nuke it to death with converting once. If using a sword (joyeuse) focus on building TP and use Red Lotus Blade/Burning Blade (shining / seraph should work as well). Note 200% Burning Blade (100% TP + TP Bonus) did usually ~450dmg, meaning elemental ws like that will outdamage Spiriths within unless ur a galka rdm/mnk or similar. Do NOT waste time and TP on using physical attacks only unless you have 30min+ to spare. Any kind of elemental attacks from added effects, spikes, enspells, elemental ws or nukes will benefit from the magic weakness of Sewer Syrup while any kind of physical attack (jump, shield bash, sneak attack) will be reduced in effect.

Just somewhat duo'd it for a PLD friend with a BLM74/RDM and myself BLM70/WHM. He can't be slept so use Bind. Since he mimics the stats on the ring, mages are your only easy answer to killing this fast with the fewest deaths. My firagaIII was doing 1.4k+ on him which says a lot for his magic resistance. Keep stoneskin, blink, and phalanx if you're /RDM and this thing will go down in seconds. Good luck, congrats to Anaubaud on his jelly ring, and much thanks to those from IfritsAlliance for helping.

Ok, so i'm a 71 pally. And my ls keeps nagging at me to get this ring, which I wanted anyway. So, i was in sandy figured, what the heck i'll go check to see if hes there. Check the area and no on there, grab some sneak oils and head out. I go down there when a few LS friends ask me what i was doing, told them i was going down to check to see if slime was there. Next thing i knew, i had a full pt down there....of all plds and mnks. Hearing that this guy is kinda hard to take down with out magic, i was a bit worried..., but i thought hey we are all above 67 we should be good. So a few more people show up that wanted it to and boom it pops... we grab claim and start going to town on it....only to find out we were getting very far. So i grab it invince up and mnks two out it. Well that didn't do much either... mobs hp now at 40% and people are now starting to die. lol to finish up, we fought till the last man standing with about 10% hp left to the mob. The other group, (which i notice then was 70+rdm/whm, 70+blm/whm, and a 65pally) take claim and lay waste to it, in about 3 secs. The thought came to me just then, we might need some magic power.
Next day i go back out there this time ive got a 75-nin/blm w/ whm/npc in tow... I was thinking..ok this isnt good. But my fiend assured me it was no prob. About 2 hours of camping it pops and all i do is stand back throwing in a flash or a cure now and again and my nin friend kills mob in no time. So again Moral of the story is, make sure you have a bit of magic on your side when fighting this NM :)

I started camping at 8pm, its now 5am and no sign of him yet, did SE forget to hit the switch or what?

Ok, just some info on our experience.. We originally went with WHM75/NIN37 (me), PLD62/NIN30 and RDM55/BLM27, but before the NM spawned, that RDM left and a RDM61 came to help. Anyway, the NM spawns, we clear the bats, and the other slime at the corner before the room and pull the NM. Bats respawn and agro the PLD and RDM, eventually kill them and then me since I healed them and got myself a little hate.. I die in a "safe" spot (Yeah... There's no truly -safe- spot in that entire dungeon), I reraise, clear some mobs, raise them, and we're ready for round 2. I borrowed an earth staff, got all my buffs up and trained the NM to the zone. Ended up with Sewer Syrup, 1 Mousse, I think 3 Haunts, and I don't know how many hounds chasing me, but I stayed far enough ahead and cut corners, and they didn't even get through my stoneskin. I zoned, and thanks to the "mpk fix," everything except the NM disappeared. PLD flashed it while I zoned back in, and then I tanked most of the fight as WHM/NIN. Wasn't too hard to keep shadows up, though sometimes fluid toss would take out 2 shadows instead of just 1? o.O; The PLD said it took out all 3 of his shadows a couple times. Anyway, the zone was a good spot to fight and although it was a long fight, it wasn't too hard. RDM would nuke, then zone to lose hate. I threw out a few Banish 3's for a little over 400 damage each. I was hardly able to pay attention to how much Hexa Strike was doing, but it wasn't a lot. I think around 150. The PLD is lucky the drop is guaranteed cuz that thing sucks to camp in a small group. I had to yell at him after the fight because he wasn't even able to equip it yet. He was happy though. Lol :p

Just killed this solo as 74thf/nin. I ended up not using utsusemi at all to kill it. Melee damage was doing about 10 a hit. I bought a Wing Sword like someone said before and the additional effect rarely went off, so that was a waste. I took it down in about 14 minutes with bloody bolts. I didn't use utsusemi so I would take damage, so I would drain for more. The bolts were doing 50-110 damage per drain along with the 10-15 physical damage of the bolt, which is a lot more damage than melee hits. I pretty much never missed with the bolts, too. Dancing Edge did about 160 or so.

I must say this NM is not alll some of you cracked it up to be. I soloed it as a 65 Ninja/blm, getting hit only once for 104 damage. My Ninjitsu was doing 182 straight across the board, and once I blinded and slowed him he must have whiffed 20 times straight at one point. Any 65 Ninja should be able to do this with no problems at all.
Duo'd it!
# Oct 26 2005 at 4:35 PM Rating: Good
I duo'd this today as a 71 PLD with a 74 RDM/BLM (he didnt have NIN to sub). Was close without blink, he would kite it when i was at low HP/MP so we could both recover MP. Got my ring, finally :)

One day, 5 of us Blm's were looking to do a Manaburn party. Unfortunately, we couldn't find a Rdm or a Brd (or a free campsite for that matter). So, we talk about what else could we do (besides KS30).. Since 2 of the Blm's also had other high level jobs, we talked about getting a Jelly Ring.

We spent about an hour killing the Mousses (and Haunts) before the NM popped. It was funny to see it dead in like 20 seconds.
Tanking Sewer Syrup
# Aug 31 2005 at 8:45 AM Rating: Default
You all may have to swallow your pride for this one, but any 70+ Nin or Rdm can solo this with ease. Just helped a Pld get his last night (I got mine a long time ago).

Sewer Syrups only specials are both easily absorbed be shadows.

You don't need nukers, but it makes things a hell of a lot easier. Sewer Syrup is just like his drop: resistent to physical, but weak to magic. For a Ninja to kill it as easy as possible he needs his nuke wheel tools on him. My Ni Wheel with no Ninjutsu or Int enhancing gear was doing 130 to him, which is more than it was doing on his placeholder mousse's. He's tougher, but his strengths and weaknesses are more defined. So 130 x 6 = 780 dmg in about 30 seconds, with only about another 30 seconds before the first nuke is ready for recast.

In my opinion the bigger challenge is avoiding mousse or haunt aggro.

Goodluck.

Got the ring for my PLD friend this evening.

Party was:

THF58/WAR <me>
DRK61/WHM
WHM61/BLM
RDM61/WHM
PLD61/WAR
PLD63/WAR

This thing is not that tough. I did plenty of damage, as did everyone else. It has a lot of HP, but the real problem is it's AoE, Fluid Spread.

Sometimes Fluid Spread just hit our main tank for not even 200, but other times it hit everyone around it for 500-800; it's very inconsistant, wild, and unpredictable.

Endurance/Healing is the key. Our PLD' both had curaga earrings, and used them along with juices and potions.

Overall I would say it might've been easier with less people. Perhaps a RDM & PLD duo. My thinking is that less people to get damage there's less curing needed, and as I said before: healing/endurance is the key.

I'm not sure what the lowest level duo could be, but I do know for sure we did this at a much lower level than anyone said it could be done.

I hope this information is helpful to everyone.

P.S. It gave me 41 exp with 5 level penalty (58 in a party with a 63). Figuring that into the exp penalty formula ([exp of highest level] * [your level] / [highest level]) we find that 41 = 45 * 58 / 63, and that for a party of 6 with people over 61 the level of monster that gives 45 exp is 1 level higher than the highest party member, which in this case was level 63, thus making this a level 64 monster.
RE: My fight.

Killed it yesterday, bring a smn or 2 along if you know any. I put carby on it, ran to the wron zone and retreated carby. Slime followed and we fought it at the zone. 65+ nin can easy tank this and a smn can easy keep him alive. Meteorite does 750-800 dmg a pop to the slime. Pretty sure I can solo this on smn too since there is room to carby recast at the zone and keep throwing carby at it.

Spawn Time
# Jul 28 2005 at 11:18 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, my party got to the spawn point to the scene of another PLD killing the Sewer Syrup. This was around 6:20pm. We spent the next 5 hours killing everything in sight. We had 74PLD, 73PLD(me), 75RNG, 74RNG, 75BRD, 75WHM. We went and killed the brother NMs while waiting. Came back and killed everything until Sewer Syrup popped @ 11:20pm. Spawn time is 5 hours from death to spawn. Killed it no prob. It spawns in that little room of I-11, we camped at the corner of H-11 with a sight of the room.
