Twice I've had this mob now. First I got silenced and didn't have any echo drops on me. Silence lasted too long, then I got slept, ended up dead.
Today I go back, kill the placeholders several times. Get the claim. Then when I try to pull the mob into the tunnel to avoi dany links it goes yellow and a JP player call Hirozosan (on Ramuh) steals it from me.

I'm surprized to hear so many people having problems with this drop. A few LS members and I camped him the last two days because I wanted the cloak for all of my mage jobs. Original party setup was 58 THF, 66 WHM, 66 BLM and 64 RDM (me). We enter his spawn area and clear the room, including the spiders and worms since we were all using our NPCs as well. 15 minutes later, Centurio pops. We kill him no problem and get the Cloak, Stonga II, Iron Ore and a Pauldron. Everone passes so I can have the cloak, and we stick around for another pop, hoping to get Quake. Almost exactly 2 hours later, he pops again and again we claim him, this time with a 67 DRK replacing the THF. Again we slaughter him, and again we get the cloak, Stonga II, and iron ore. The WHM lots for the cloak and gets it. By this time, it's 5am, and we call it quits for the night (or morning, if you will). Following day, we head back again, same party setup as the first time. When we get there, we clear the room again, but Centurio takes about an hour to pop. We claim him again (which seems to be rather easy since we're the only people camping him) and get yet another cloak, Stone III, and more ore. This time the THF took the cloak to use with his mage job. So with 3 pops and 3 claims, we received 3 cloaks, 2 Stonga II, Stone III, and some ore. Still hoping to get Quake. >.<

There is nothing surprising on drops that are chance. You were lucky on the Cloak. I've hit it on about 1 out of every 3. But still, the drop is luck and someone could just have a bad string of runs. Only S/E knows what the drop percentage is as well as all those other magically frustrating elements like day of the week and moon cycle.

That's just crazy. We've now killed him 5 times, cloak every time and still no Quake. >.< Starting to get rather frustrated, but that's how it goes sometimes. Congrats on your find.

2/2 on this cloak personally. WHY oh WHY can't Dark Knight wear this. 1st drop went to a friend who is going to level rdm. Next went to me. I have no jobs that can equip it. 0/13, that sucks though.

You can summon your NPC in QCs now, so leveling your buddy while you wait at least makes you feel productive.
I first arrived and found it up near the ??? I killed it easily with shadows absorbing everything (the only -aga was sleep, which I resisted). The most damage I took was probably from blaze spikes. Dropped Antican Robe, Darksteel Ore, Iron Ore, Mythril Ore, Stonega III and Quake. I noted the TOD and came back 1-1/2 hrs later. Someone else was already busy clearing the room. I summoned my NPC and messed around any time a signifier had just been killed. A few minutes after the 2hr mark, it pops against the far wall (directly across from the "laser beams" tunnel). I try pulling it into the tunnel, but he's very slow to follow, and I worry about links the whole time. He catches me with Bio2 as I'm slow-casting utsusemi:ichi, which takes a healthy chunk out of my hp. My NPC heals me a bit before time expires and it warp out. >< By this time I have a link to deal with, and decide to 2hr so my shadows only absorb spells. I finally finish off the NM with 400 or so hp left, and flee out of there instead of dealing with the link. This time it dropped: Antican Robe, Stone IV (I didn't see this listed above), and the Shaman's Cloak. Since this is what I came for, I was pretty happy, though the other drops were a welcome bonus. ;)

Well I just recently started camping this guy, I'm trying to get the cloak for my BLM several levels in advance. The first time I went to the pop area he was up with a high level thf standing next to him. I went as BST75/WHM37~ quickly popped a courier carrie and killed it quite easily, second time I killed the 'Antican Signifer' placeholder for several hours and eventually he popped right in front of me and I claimed with charm (outpulled about 3 othert competitors). All I've gotten out of the deal so far is 2 Stone III scrolls, a darksteel ore, an antican robe, and 2 iron ores. -_-;;; I hope he drops soon, the cloak is really awesome.
Ive camped this thing for 3 hours a day for 3 days, killing the placeholder, but X-1 hasnt popped once. I heard somewhere the respawn time on X-1 is 7 hours. Is that true?
Can a 65 Blm Solo this by chance?

Camped this stingy basta*@ 4 times, got claim all four, but first 3 times he droped only Stongega II, not Quake, or any other big maoney item, and not the real prize, The Cloak. The Spawn Points listed in Manof's post are dead on. In 4 times I have noticed the he will either pop directly in the "lazer line" which Manof described in the far far right of the room, (as you enter the room from the drop off ledge from Altepa, get to the center of the room, and imagine a tri-angle with lines from the left tunnel, a straight line to the far right of the room accross the center, and a straight line to the right tunnel running the length of the room.
Cent poped at the far right, and in behind the stone right of the ??? that shows up during dust storms in Altepa, and toward the back middle of the room behind a stone formation.
Poped him twice on Earthsday, no cloak drop. Once on Windsday, which is his weak day, no drop. Last clkaim was on lightsday of all things, and got the cloak. Camped him 4.5 hrs the first time, 3 hrs the second, and 4.5 hours the 3rd day with two claims in a row. never really had any serious comp on claim, as most of my static camped him with me, and single players, even high level MNK with Chi-blast, Thfs, SMM and BST with Charm, they all gave up when they saw how fast we could claim the sigys when they poped.

I heard about this thing dropping Quake, and I needed gil. I went in as 75RDM/37NIN wanting Quake from it (its worth 600k on my server, and this was my first trip down there), there was already a RDM+PLD PT there camping it. I wait about 30 minutes, it pops. I claim it with Dia II. Was an easy battle. I actually liked when it casted Ancient Magic because it was 20 seconds of it not doing anything (due to cast time), and Utsusemi ate the spell anyway. It spammed Sleepga a few times but it only stuck once, so I killed stoneskin and utsusemi so it would wake me, then quickly cast Utsusemi: Ni. It also silenced me a couple times, so I burned a couple Echo Drops. I got close to killing it and 2 Anticans pop. I figure, no problem, Slept one with Sleep II and the other with Sleep. Though, the PLD took them off me anyway. Once it was a few hits from killing it, I stopped hitting it and turned around. Realized they were there for the Cloak, and I didn't want it, so I /tell'd them asking if that's what they were there for, they said yes, and they also agreed I could keep any and all drops besides the Cloak, so I let them invite me to their party. I killed it (they were still fighting the 2 pops/links), got Antican Pauldron, Stone III, Iron Ore, and Shaman's Cloak. Was kinda disappointed it didn't drop Quake, but I was happy for the RDM there that the Cloak he wanted dropped, and they kept their word in letting me have the other items.

This guy really sucks....rather, I just have bad luck. 0/2 on this, and dropped Quake and Stonega II, not bad drops, I'll need them later. But the cloak was what I was after. 5+ hours camping, and no cloak, [******* Sword].

I hate this NM. The first time, we waited 6 hours for pop, the whole time killing Ant Signifiers in the room, no cloak. The pop time varies wildly. We've camped him 5 times now, (WHM/SMN 65, BLM/WHM 65, NIN/WAR 75) and it was anywhere from 1 and a half hours to 6. I read it can be as long as 8. The last time we got the drop, but a THF had outclaimed us, and started getting hit real hard, so we added her to our party since she only wanted the other drops, not the cloak.
The AM is weird. It one-shotted the NIN in two of the fights due to badly timed Sleepga / shadows down, but when it cast Freeze on me, it only hit for 300. I just had on Protect IV and Shell III, no other buffs.

Woot! Soloed at RDM 66 last night. Got shaman's cloak. The only downside was my friend, Allycia, had to log before the NM popped.

Me and my friend went to camp this and there were about five people there, 4 of them in one party and one jerk counter campoing them with the cloak on. I swear he was doing it to be a jerk.
I was a 59 Thief, I had on crap gear and my friend was a 73 Whm with decent gear. She forgot some of her armor but it didn't matter. We claimed it over them easily with flash. It can spawn anywhere in the room so we were just lucky at the time. I sneaked and tanked for about 6 hits before my shadow wore and I was left defenseless and then my friend flashed and took hate and being so high a whm she only took 60 a hit. I went down in the first spell, Blizzaga3.
Not to fear, Whm goes into overdrive and starts casting buffs. Everytime he cast AM or high lvl spells the Whm countered with a bar-spell. Poof, 150 damage was the Max that guy could do and it was hilarious. Everyone was waiting for the Whm to fall and she never hit red HP once. Still had a spare Benediction and 100 MP left. We made about 200k in drops including stonega2, DS ore, and the cloak. Whm of course got it. I have no use for it anymore.

ya cant really say he was there for the cloak...the scroll of quake sells for 400k on Alexander server. He may have just been a jerk but just sayin maybe not.
I would recommend letting all the ants pop and then killing the PH first, then the other ants. When respawn time comes around he will spawn with no ants around to link and you can pull him into a tunnel for the kill. Camped him a few times, 0/2 but did get an adaman ore and stonega 2
For everyone fighting Mr. Centurio X-I, don't even bother casting Silence or using Sleep magic/bolts. The effects will not land on him at all. Because of this, you will need to wait until he goes near one of the tunnels and is relatively alone before you pull him, as he nearly always starts casting a spell (usually Burst in my case, heh) when you attack him and will pull links.
If you are lucky and get a "weak" one, all he will do is meleé and cast a few tier III spells with one or two Ancient magics. If you're less fortunate and "evil incarnate" spawns, you have to contend with several Jamming Waves, Ancient magics back to back, Blaze Spikes re-cast as you Dispel it and many tier II -ga spells during Manafont. Lots of fun. :)

He spawns @ H10 on the first map of quicksand caves, enter the caves from the Far Eastern entrance in East Altepa(K7).
Just camp @ H10 killing all Antican Signifiars(Placeholder) every 16min(respawn time).
The drop rate on cloak for me is about 1 or 2 in 5 kills.

i solo this guy alot as whm/thf lvl 75 its wasy if you dont have competition and bring echo drops and a poison potion or 2

I managed to pull it to a tunnel and begin to melee it do death...and that when things started to go wrong...
Silence wouldn’t work so I tried running out of range of the ancient magic’s, didn’t go far enough and took a 808 dmg Quake, healed upp rebuffed while meleeing it, then a jp pt appears from nowhere and watch.
I get it down to over half hp and he uses manafont and starts spamming ancient magic’s, I run out of the tunnel out of range and it becomes unclaimed, lucky for me they were nice jps and let me re-claim.
As I try to avoid links burst hits me for 600...so I then used chainspell + convert...then soon enough realise I have 3 links on me, got it down to 1/3 hp before I died, and as soon as I die I see the jps use asuran fists and blizzard 4 to kill it.
They were nice enough to raise me but not nice enough to let me have the cloak.
I would think subbing nin I could have won...and for those who want to sleep nuke, don’t bother it resisted an elemental seal sleep^^.

Solo'd this **** today as NIN61/WAR30. As improbable as this seems, I got a Quake scroll off the body to prove it =P. I've camped this guy a few times, discovered him once as 57 nin while looking for Antican tag... I tried taking him on, and almost beat him at lvl 57 lol. This guy has insane blaze spikes. Anyways, this time I brought 2 hi potions, stack of echo drops, and sole sushi. By the end of the fight, I was at about 180 HP, almost completely from blaze spikes' returned damage.
After getting wiped on my 2nd attempt at lvl 57 by it's heavy -ga magic, I decided to save Blade: Jin for when he casts -ga magic. Luckily, he seems to favor ancient magic, which is great for us nins. Long cast times and shadows absorb damage. 1/5 on Quake now.
