can anyone give a position or location of the spawn point for this guy? there is 4 or 5 different levels to Quicksand Caves.

Me a 57war/26 nin and a 57 blm friend camped this NM for 6 hours we killed everthing in the room and had to escape 1 time at about 3 hours of camping. He finally spawned after 6 hours we knew we couldnt take him so we asked are linkshell but everone was busy then 2 JP 75 nin and 75 whm come
walking by. This Guy cast freeze on the whm and he is out, but he had reraise on so we alliance and kill him easy, but we had 2 lvl 75 the NIn never got hit. We got scroll: of quake and the cloak and some ores and ant stuff. They let us have the cloak, but they take the rest.So this is a random pop.

some things you may want to note about this nm. he's a lottery off of the Signifer ants in the room, is very difficult to silence and has a propensity for casting ancient magic. i recommend anyone camping him clears all the wandering ants out of the room, both as something to do while you wait, and to avoid links. i spent the whole fight with a paladin type add whacking away at me. also note that there is another nm ant whose name escapes me at the moment which spawns right down the hall. drops 1H sword Save the Queen.
I decided to try and camp this (solo) the other day (at level 65) for the cloak since a Whm friend and I had killed it a few times together and it wasn't too hard.
After about 30 mins tops, it spawned and I tried to pull with Silence, nothing. I then use my usual routine (stoneskin, phalanx, shock spikes, enaero, haste) to avoid dying. Key thing is to immediately put Blink up when it starts casting Ancient Magic. Thanks to that I was able to avoid Tornado. I still got hit by 2 other AM spells for 300-350 damage thanks to barspells, but nothing Cure IV couldn't handle.
Fight took about 10 minutes, but came close to dying a couple times. I ended at near full hp and 34 mp (used last of it to cure for Spirits Within @300%)
Main thing is to keep your Def up at all times and don't bother with Elemental spells, Drain and Aspir (had both capped and weren't worth the mp cost). Don't bother with Silence since it won't land.
No drop (got Stone III though), but it was definately a fun fight which made up for it :)

Having read through all of these posts I was filled with reservations when my GF suggested that we go down, just the two of us, to kill this NM for the cloak for her BLM.
I kept reading about how so'n'so group of 62+ or so'n'so person and their 70+ friend took it on and wondered... Would a lowly 60RNG and 63WHM be able to handle the ants in the room AND this NM.
As it turns out, the answer is yes... with preparation and the right gear.
Over the course of about 3 1/2 hours the two of us killed off many many ants in that room... we also managed to take down Centurio once with just the two of us and not too much trouble... for the last 1/2 hour we had help from a (63 or 64) BRD friend and took down the last few ants and the 2nd pop of Centurio X-I with even less difficulty.
The key here is to not let the bugger cast spells... so what did I (the 60RNG) do? I brought lots of Spartan Bullets and followed the following pattern:
Stun, Stun, Stun, Stun, Stun, Stun (until full TP), swap to regular bullets, Slug Shot... repeat as necessary until dead.
This way the MOB rarely gets a chance to even hit you, let alone cast Ancient Magic (which is easily interrupted by a spartan bullet).
Just thought I'd let you all in on that... He's not as hard as some people here would have you believe... with the right gear and preparation.

Killed him last night with 64pld 64drk<me> 62blm and 60rdm. This guy was easy cause he didn't use his aoe silence. What brought his defeat I guillotined him and cause silence so the fight was easy from then. No cloak only darksteel,stone III and ant stuff.
I decided to camp him last weekend so I assembled a PT of 62 SAM,52 RDM, 62 RDM, 50 PLD, and me 45 BLM.
We were clearing out one of the Antican Hastatus in the room when it popped and Quaked our SAM for 1000+ damage. I then escape my PT we go back in to raise the SAM. After he was raised, we decided to go for it again. Needless to say, he slaughtered us. Me and the SAM died and watched painfully as a lvl 73 RDM and a lvl 54 RDM duo him. The 54 RDM died and the 73 RDM looked like he was struggling but in the end he pulled it off. We decided to disband and try again 2 hours later.
Two hours later, we come to Quicksand Caves with an LS alliance of 8 strong. There were 3 JPs camping it. It popped right as we got there and got the claim. This time, we slaughtered Centurio but he didn't drop anything worthwhile.
A BST from my LS then asks us if we can kill Spelunking Sabotendar for the promis badge quest. After a disaster involving touching ???'s and western and eastern manticores, we are ready to give Centurio another shot.
After we came back, we waited an hour for the spawn. We slaughter it once again, and once again no drop. My LSmates are getting discouraged and we head back for the day.

I killed him last night. Im 66blm/whm and a 66 whm/blm (Kallia). It was fun as hell. Two tarus whacking this ***** with out staves. He cast AM 7 times of various kinds I stunned 5 took a Quake for 231 damage and Kallia ran from another. We had to burn our two hours and the fight took 10 mins but it was so fun. He did not drop ********* Mythril ore and Iron ore,robe and Stonega III which I let Kallia have cause i have it already. Point of the story TWO taru's smoked you CENTURIO X-I TARUS, mmmmwwwwwwuuuuuuuaaaaahhhh

Well he was fairly easy and he never used manafont. Three of us killed him a lvl 65 blm (Dragout), 48 Whm (Rilotelo),and Me 58 paladin (Kamaka). I tanked and dragout enfeebled and and and co-healed and rilotelo just silenced and healed and casted silenawe basicly meleed almost the whole fight. When the whm mp got low dragout used manafont and started casting blizzard III and it took one spell to kill him we got cloak, stonega II antican robe and iron ore. this is one the Garuda server. Thank you thank you !

This guy is a pushover. Soloed him at as lvl 73rdm/blm several times. My elemental seal + silence did not work. Tried it a few times so I gave up. His ancient magic hit me about 4 times along with some other lvl 2 -ga spells. My paralyze did manage to stop his magic a few times since ancient magic takes a while to cast. Melee all the way through, took maybe 10 mins and no convert or any spells needed. Drop Shamans Cloak only once, other times were spells like Stonega 3, Stone 3, Adaman Ore.

Spent one morning early camping this guy with a friend of mine, a level 75 Mithra Thief named Nekomasa. I myself am a level 47 Hume Female Red Mage; Neko needed me to keep healed up.
Killed a lot of ants while waiting for this fellow to pop, generally having a fun time. I got to be a tank RDM for a while. XD Got a coffer key and my map, went back to camping him. No other campers were around.
After about two hours of slaughtering random ants, the guy pops a little ways away. At this time, two other people showed up, Archibaldcrane and Joemidnight. They weren't really camping him (coffer hunting for map I believe, for Joemidnight) but as we run into battle, Neko starts spamming Dancing Edge and Evisceration while I sit back and enfeeble.
This guy CAN be silenced! If you Elemental Seal + Silence, it puts his ancient magic out of comission for a little while. Unfortunately as a level 47 RDM, my Silence didn't last very long, and Nekomasa took a Tornado full on. Didn't hurt her much, and a few short minutes later he went down.
Got the cloak and stonega III, and some other things as the drop. Neko took the cloak for her BLM and paid me 10k gil in addition to all the gil from the dozens of slaughtered ants and all the pauldrons I could carry. ^.^

I (55 blm) and a friend (61 nin) took this thing on last night. After losing Mysticmaker Profblix to some 75 rdms we decided to give this guy a try.
First off, everything in the guide to the Shaman's Cloak is exactly accurate, spawn times are 17 mins on the nose and the guy's spawn is held by the signifer.
After about 3 hours of waiting for him to pop it was spawn time again, out of nowhere comes a level 25 with 3 anticans on him, he goes "help" and dies at our feet, we then had to deal with these bad boys regardless of the fact that it was spawn time. Of course half way through our last guy Centurio spawns. We began to panic because a lot of people had been camping him that night and the other anticans were starting to spawn (we saw a 75 rng get taken down by 3 linked ones). We quickly prayed to the ffxi gods that he wouldnt be claimed and healed up. After buffing and eating nin voked him and battle began.
It was rediculously easy, i blinded and elemental debuffed while ninja whacked away at him. I cured when necessary and laughed at all the high levels who had suddenly appeared. We killed him easily and he dropped an iron ore, stonega III, antican robe and my cloak! We had lots of fun, go try this guy.

Yeah... im 0/6 on cloak. A 60 melee and mage can duo. If he's silenced, it's an incredibly easy fight.

Myself, elvaan 64pld/32war, and an LS mate, taru 56blm/28whm who wanted the cloak, were camping it tonight when it popped. We both quickly medded to full hp/mp, I ate a steamed crab and he ate a melon pie +1 and we went at it.
I provoked and it started hitting for about 40-60 damage a shot. Knowing this could add up quickly I started to worry a bit but we were already into it so there wasn't anything to be done but plow on. After losing about 1/5th of it's HP it used Manafont and got off a few bio2s and poison2s on me before hitting me with blizzaga2 for somewhere in the area of 740damage, bringing me down to 300ish hp. Cure3 from the blm, cure4 from myself and I'm fine. It starts casting tornado, blm stuns and interrupts it's cast. I'm worried though because it's just aspir'd the last bit of my mp so I had no more cures and no mp regen drinks on me. We're still fighting at it and it's maybe a little below half and starts casting burst. I run out of range to safety and head back, re-engage it and keep fighting. At about 1/5th of it's HP I used invincible so the blm could have a chance to med without having to cure me unless it started doing something bad to me ^^ After a moment the blm got up, started nuking away, ran out of mp, hit manafont, and continued nuking. I was at about 600hp (of 1308) with 0 mp when the thing died, with the blm at full hp and 35mp.
Long story short, we won despite a close shave and a few nervous moments when it started using ancient magic, and got the cloak, quake, antican robe, darksteel ore, and an iron ore.
Next time I'm going to sub ninja though. ^^

Killed it twice now hoping to get the cloak for a friend but with no luck soloed with my lvl 72 nin/war rather easy fight, I will keep killing this guy till he finally gives her a cloak >.<
Also drops Darksteel Ore. I got him 2 days in a row. First time was antican robe and Quake, second time was Antican Robe, Shaman's Cloak, Darksteel Ore, Iron Ore, and Stone III. If you are 74+ and can sub NIN (Utsusemi Ni & Ichi) he is really easy. He pretty much casts all ancients. Just make sure you have echo drops.
Did it with a lvl75 THF/WHM. Not too hard, she pulled when I only have 200mp. I drank a yugodo drink. Use echo drop twice, so did the thf. Stun the first ancient spell try, but he got the second one off, luckily the THF had blink on. I also played as blink tank a coupld of time so the THF can get SA+dancing off. Got the cloak on the first kill, along with some other items. The THF had the +1 TH knife though.
