Historical Information

In Greek mythology, the Titans were a race of gods that preceded the Olympian gods (Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, etc) lead by the youngest of the first generation, Kronos after he overthrew their father Uranus.

Kronos, fearing that his children would rise up to overthrow him in the same manner that he had overthrew his father, swallowed them soon after they were born. However, Rhea, the wife of Kronos and the mother of his children, hid their youngest son, Zeus, in Crete and gave Kronos a stone with a blanket wrapped around it instead, which he swallowed.

Eventually Zeus grew to adulthood and forced Kronos to regurgitate his siblings by causing him to drink a potion given to him by his grandmother Gaia. This caused a war between the Titans and the Olympians, who were aided by the Cyclops and Hecatonchires, themselves siblings of the Titans that were locked away in Tartarus by Kronos. Eventually the Olympians won, and sealed Kronos and the other Titans that had participated in the fight in Tartarus.

I finally accomplished what I wanted to accomplish as whm/nin when I first started gearing myself for it...I soloed a prime avatar. I went today to Titan as whm/nin...I went 1/2 overall. The first fight, I had 2 yagudo drinks and I went in with dual clubs...normal buffs, everything was going fine. He 2 houred at about 45%...I took about 50 dmg with a partial stoneskin and barstonra up...but then at 35% with a little bad luck, I got double attacked after my shadows went down and died. I had to go to class so I didn't have time to try again then...

So after I came home, I decided I'd just try it again for the hell of it...no drinks left so I figured that would limit me, but I figured RR3 = not much exp loss so I might as well just do it. Well, it turns out...I didn't even need the drinks in the first place. The difference between the first and second try was that instead of going club/club, I went club/Genbu's Shield for the second try, figuring that the extra defense, evasion, and damage reduction would be more beneficial than the slightly higher damage output I get from two clubs.

Basically, how I did it was...after Utsusemi: Ni cast, I macroed in Evasion +35 in gear (+45 total combined with Genbu's Shield) in order to try to dodge as many attacks as I could, then have a better chance of evading when I needed to cast Ichi. After Ichi, I would macro my haste gear back in (+15%) so that my Utsusemi: Ni recast would stay minimal. Kept Barstonra and Haste up 100% of the time, aquaveil most of the time, and Stoneskin as much as I could. Titan seems to resist flash so it wasn't possible to use it for recast purposes. In the interest of MP, I used mostly regen spells for healing myself.

I TPed and Evaded in Noble's Tunic (since I lack Reverend Mail for the Evasion +10) Evasion macro consisted of Optical Hat, Velocity Earring, Tactician Magician's Cuffs, Combat Caster's Slacks, Dance Shoes, and Survival Belt. TP'd with the Haste gear which was just blessed legs, hands, and feet + walahra turban.

Overall the fight took 24 min 48 sec. I plan to attempt to solo more avatars, but I'm thinking Leviathan will be difficult to kill in time since it heals itself. Anyway, this was incredibly fun to solo and it just gives me more confidence that there is a lot I can do on whm/nin! Good luck to any other white mages that attempt to solo this :)

I just solo'd Titan today as 75 SMN. I used Leviathan's Spinning Drive till I got down to 100 MP and then I busted carbuncle out on Titan till my yy's refresh and auto-refresh kicked me up to about 800 and I finished Titan off with a few more Spinning Drives.

Survived with 415 HP, but was in no Danger of biting the dust as I had chakra up and ready, Just didn't feel like hitting the macros to use it because he had 3 hits worth of health left in him ^^

I wanted a Titan's Cudgel for skillup purposes, but nobody else wanted to do the fight...so I did some research and figured i'd try to solo the guy.

I brought a Hi-Pot tank and took out 13 pots, brought 2 Pamama au Laits, and had +28 (yes, only 28) in Earth Resistance gear. I used Carbonara and a few +HP items, and had about 1350 HP when I went in. (Hume, by the way)

Titan has really, really bad accuracy. I have upwards of +70Eva, but only used about +25 for the fight; I feel I could have worn less. The only things you really need to worry about are his Stone IV spells, Geocrush (Add: Stun), and his 2HR, all which ignore shadows.

I was hit by 2 Stone IV's, both hit for 87. Geocrush'd four times, 104, 107, 266, and 864. Earthen Fury(his 2HR) landed for 256 damage. In the end I used 9 of the 13 Hi-pots I brought, and both au Laits. Also, he did hit me once when I fumbled my macros, for 86+97(En-) damage.

If you bring about 40~50+ in Earth Resist, I doubt you'll take much damage at all from any of those attacks. I would suggest anyway, that you stay at max HP as much as possible for those 'Oh SH*T' moments.

Oh yes, if you have Aura Steal, you can steal his Stoneskin right off. I didn't absorb it, but it was nice to not have to break it on your own.

It was a pretty fun fight, though a little long (14 minutes, almost 15) but i'd say it was worth it, unless you're one of those THF's who doesn't enjoy solo'ing stuff.

If your doing the normal "Prime" fight then lvl 7 fame in Bastok will get you the quest. Easiest would probably be trading millicorn and cabbage to a old man in Selbina. (Located where the Sheep stable is) its hard to miss once you see the sheep. Good Luck!!

I think the avatars in the mini ones are capped at 20 like you are when you enter.

Also, the Primes are all 70. Not sure about Fenrir and Diablos though.

what i just did
# Aug 27 2005 at 10:26 AM Rating: Decent
I did the Titan 65+ plus battle last night and when he reached like 45% he 2hred and killed one of our Dmg dealers. Then between going from 45% to 25% percent he managed to decimate everyone except me at full health and the DD who was weakened from raise. I totally thought i was gonna die but since he was between me and the crystal I decided to be adventurous and solo the last 25% as a 64 THF/WAR.....

I BEAT THE HELL OUT OF HIM!!!!!! HE HIT ME TWICE!!!
I was so nervous.

This afternoon, I went to fight Titan. Words cannot explain how nervous I was. ( I was actually shaking, couldn't stop it. My finger almost fell asleep. ) Then I summoned Carbuncle, scanned through my items and used a Yagudo Drink. I ran up and had Carbuncle attack Titan. Then I ran behind the crystal, felt like I was on the wrong side, turned around and got on the other side. Turns out I was at the wrong crystal. So Carbuncle died, I tried recasting him but I was too close to Titan and he punched me so I couldn't finish it. But I was too nervous, I thought Carbuncle was out so I frantically kept pressing the Assault Macro button, then I noticed Carbuncle wasn't there, so I started running away. Then, 5 HP left, tried casting Carbuncle again, and I died halfway through it.

Don't worry about this happening to you, just suck yourself up, and make sure you know your strategy before going.

(Good thing is, I only used one Yagudo Drink, so that's all I have to buy.)

Here's some facts about the battles.
Here's the list of avatars from easiest to hardest.
Titan-Garuda-Shiva-Ramuh-Ifrit-Fenrir

Here's something most people now:
Here's a list of areas that get you fame in other places.

Selbina = San d'Oria and Bastok
Mhaura = Windurst
Norg = Bastok
Rabao = Bastok
Kazham = Windurst

And here's a fact for the newbies:

At level 20+ as a Summoner, you get to do the solo
avatar battles. As level 65+ on any other job, you can do the full force battles. At level 75, you'll be strong enough to solo some of the avatars.

in my experience... your all wrong
titan, garuda, ifrit, shiva, ramuh
Ramuh seems to resists on his weakday and lightsday and he paralyzes which is a ***** and he spams thunderII
shiva seems to daimond dust at the worst possible times
ifrit just hits hard so you need to keep carby on him
garuda is a pushover. thats all there is
titan is a pansy also

*I didnt include leviathin because I have yet to try to solo him. got lucky w/ pts

Actually, Rabao fame is based off of Selbina Fame, and Norg is independant (Even though the quests FOR norg are in other cities, those quests ONLY effect Norg fame) If anything Rabao would be based on San'doria not Bastok as the Rabao AH has San'doria Merchandise, but as stated above, even this is false. First off, its listed in the Brady Guide (Yes, I know that some stuff in that is wrong, but this isn't) Second off, if it WAS based on Bastok or Sandy, then my friend who was able to get the Tuning fork for Garuda should have been able to get the one for either Titan or Shiva right away since they would take roughly the same amount of fame, but he couldn't. I came to discover though that he had trades a LOT of cabbage on that quest in Selbina.

This list is unaccurate. You dont have leviathan in there. He's the very easiest. Ramuh is the hardest besides Fenrir because not everyone is subbing White Mage for paralyna.Shiva is weaker then Garuda. So the list should look like this.

Leviathan-Titan-Shiva-Ifrit-Garuda-Ramuh-Fenrir

I'm only posting this because people need accurate info for smn battles expecially if they are soloing. It might be different for 65+ battles.

If you're doing these with the Level 20's SMN battles, to Refresh you before the battle is a waste of time. Refresh is only going to last about 30 seconds on you at that level. If I were you, I'd be looking for a WHM too, as RDMs Bar spells are only able to be casts on themselves. They also will usually have better Shell and Protect spells then a comprible RDM.

they musta nerfed it at sometime then... I have cast it on 20+/- characters whom I was PLin or otherwise attached to at the moment, only to watch it drop off REAL fast.

Can you people say ANYTHING without insulting people, or is your self-esteem THAT low that you feel the need to call someone a dumbass or worse, when you yourself have just proven to be the epitome of that epithet?

Okay, there's no doubt about it... these fights are UNBELIEVABLY annoying. Don't worry though you WILL eventually get throught them, and the reward is worth the effort =)

Okay so after getting my butt kicked numerous times when I first started out, I've developped what has become an almost 100% successful method for these battles.

Now it costs a lot (depending on your server, for me this method can cost from 15k to 22k PER fight on Asura).
Here's what you need:

Potion X 5
Hi-Potion X 2
Ether X 5
Yagudo Drink X 3
Selbina Milk X 12 (just a clump of em will last for a loong time, and they're cheap too, only about 200G for 12)

Okay so very simple strategy. Get your hand on a Hermit's Wand and ANY other equipment that lowers spell interuption rates (like Heko Obi +1 for example), the rest of your equipment try to find things that raise your EVAsion stats, otherwise anything with the highest defense.

Now, when you enter the battlefield IMMEDIATELY cast Protect and Aquaveil (if using a SMN/WHM, I haven't tried any other combo), or you can try to get a Protect II or III from some nice player before entering the battle. Now having macros set for these fights helps a lot (I will post my macro list right after this).

Run up the ramp until you can see the avatar in the distance and cast Carbuncle right away. Use a Yagudo Drink RIGHT AWAY after summoning (it restores MP).

Use assault of the avatar where you summoned Carby (MAKE SURE that the avatar if busy with Carbuncle before moving) now run to the top and hide beside the crystal. Try to run far enough away so you no longer target the avatar and you can no longer see Carbuncle's health, only his name, you know then you are at a safe distance.
Now that you have a chance, use the Selbina Milk (it gradually restores HP). Be very alert during these battles, and restore anything that wears off if you feel you are safe to do so.

After a minute or so Carbuncle will be defeated by the avatar. DO NOT PANIC, this will happen MANY times during the fight, so get used to it. When you see Carbuncles name dissapear from the bottom of the screen summon him again RIGHT AWAY, DO NOT WASTE TIME. Once he pops out again, mash the Assault macro, and once the avatar has targeted Carby again, run back to the place you summoned Carby for the first time (a lot of people say to run back down to where you enetered the battlefield, personally I found this a waste of time, and it actually caused me MORE difficulty, so just do what you feel comfortable with).

Keep letting Carby get wooped until you either:

A) Have the avatar's health down to about 3/4's
OR
B) Have less that 70 MP remaining.

Now's when you break out the 2-Hour.
Once Carbuncle has been freshly summoned, let the avatar come close to you and use Astral Flow, it WILL come after you, but don't worry. Now hit the Searing Light macro, and WAIT until Carby hit it before running away, otherwise you'll completely miss the target. This is EXTREMELY important!!! USE at LEAST 2 or 3 ethers IMMEDIATELY!!! Otherwise Carbuncle will dissapear due to lack of MP, and you will most likely DIE! After using the Ethers run to a safe spot (as mentioned before by viewing only Carby's name nd the bottom) and use potions as needed (Hi-potions if in the yellow and regular potions if you are below 75%HP).

Make sure you have at least 40MP remaining and continue the "Carby dies, you re-summon" method until you can re-use Searing Light. Follow the same directons as before, stay CLOSE to the avatar and wait for Carby to use it.

Using this method, the second Searing Light should do the avatar in. If for some reason it doesn't, then follow the same directions as before, and pray you have enough time to get another Searing Light in before the 2-Hour wears off.

And there you have it! This method has worked for me 90% of the time. Why 90%? Because I once continued hitting the wrong macro thinking there was some glitch with the game rather than using Searing Light, which lead my 2-hour to expire and Shiva to kick my bum. Other than that extremely stupid mishap, I've won every other time.

Don't worry you CAN do it! It just takes practice, it's very rare that anyone can get an avatar on their first try. Good luck!

Was in a hurry to do Prime Avatar runs, so I joined a lvl 60-62 PT. Bad idea. Titan was hitting the tank for 100 per hit + 187ish for en-damage. We were spamming Cure III and Cure IV >_< Mages MP didn't last long. After Titan's two-hr, it was just the thief and me alive. It had like 1/9th HP left so we tried to finish it off. I was kiting it back and forth using Gravity, and Thief was running behind Titan slowly carving his HP down. It was working great until I attempted to Chainspell + Convert. Gravity wore off Titan just as I converted and killed me -_-
