Historical Information

In Norse mythology, Fenris (originally spelled Fenrisulfr) was the eldest offspring of the prankster god Loki and the giantess Angrboda. His siblings were the dragon monster Jormungandr (see Jormungand) and Hel, the future ruler of the underworld that would bear the same name.

Despite that his siblings were cast from Asgard, Fenris was spared from a similar fate due to Odin's (see Odin) affinity towards wolves, though due to his rapid growth and increasingly fierce nature, the gods feared him and dared not approach him, save for one. The god of war Tyr, unafraid of the monstrous hound, offered to feed him daily, thus forging an uneasy peace between him and Fenris.

However, even due to this truce, the gods determined that Fenris needed to be bound, so Odin ordered dwarven forgers to create an iron chain, known as Loedingr, though as soon as it was wrapped around Fenris, his strength allowed him to snap the bonds with ease. A second chain, known as Dromi, which possessed twice the tensile strength of Loedingr, was created to bind the wolf again, though, like Loedingr, Dromi was broken just as easily.

The dwarves then made a fine ribbon known as Gleipnir, fashioned from the beard of a woman, the roots of a mountain, the sinews of a bear, the breath of a fish, the spittle of a bird, and the sound of a cat's footstep, and was brought before Fenris so that he could be bound by it again. Sensing some level of deception in being confronted with what appeared to be such a fragile material, Fenris demanded that he would only allow himself to be bound by Gleipnir if one of the gods would place his/her hand in its mouth, so that if the gods did not release him from Gleipnir as they had promised, he would bite off that hand. Knowing that there was no intention for Fenris to be released, the gods were wary of accepting Fenris's demands, until Tyr stepped forward and offered his right hand to the beast. After Fenris realized that he was not going to be released, he soundly clamped down and removed Tyr's hand, then was bound to the great rock Gjoll on the island Lyngvi.

At the time of the Ragnarok (see Ragnarok), Fenris would finally grow powerful enough to shatter Gleipnir and join Jormungandr, Hel, and giants against the battle with the gods, where Fenris would devour Odin. As an act of vengeance, Vidar, one of Odin's sons, killed the monstrous wolf by placing his foot on its lower jaw, then pulled upward on its upper jaw until Fenris was torn in half.

I would love to get this avatar as I cannot progress further in this game. I fell in <3 with the summoner job and have leveled it ever since. It is my highest job (lv 60), sadly, I cannot gain levels partys (no offense) are being a bit picky about summoners, least on this server. All because I do not have this mutt I can't get parties at all :( I've been stuck at lv 60 for nearly 3 months now. I have 3 out of the 6 whispers and thats hard to get as it is ;;. I wish I could pay but I don't have a lot of gil and farming is difficult (no I'm not gonna buy gil I'm not gonna go that route ;;). I can pay what i got prolly 200k but thats about it.

Help a taru out -.-

Trying to setup a party for this and so far i have 3 war/nin at about lvl 70 to go with...

I was wondering if they all started the fight by sleeping to 300tp then doing individual Skill chains like a Maat fight would it be good? Like weaponskill/icarus wing/weaponskill... rinse and repeat like they would do in a maat fight... im guessing 3 war/nin can take a big chunk of the Hp down doing this in sucession with a BLM to nuke on the bursts.....

Not sure if this would work well but wondering if anyone has tried this....

We just fought Fenrir with success
on a full moon :-)
watersday

Partysetup:

Rng/nin 75
Nin/war 75
Nin/war 75
Brd/whm 75
Whm/blm 73
Rdm/whm 75

We didn't have a skillchain, nor could we stun Fenrir's 2-hour. Suprisingly, 2-hour didn't hit us all to bad, probably because "dark carol" was up at all times. When Fenrir uses 2-hour, let the whitemage do benediction, but it's not a neccessity, especially when you have ninja.

just remember that Fenrir can be debuffed
(slow, paralyze, dia and gravity all seemed to stick rather well)
and to erase the debuffs of your tank after fenrir's lunar cry.

You'll love when fenrir starts spamming dispelga,
2 buffs each person gone all of a sudden :-)

Good luck !

Unconventional Fenrir Party

I think my party is about one of the most unconventional Fenrir parties you'll find.
The setup:
75 mithra THF/NIN
75 hume PLD/WAR
75 elvaan RDM/DRK
75 taru BLM/RDM
72 taru BRD/WHM
60 elvaan WHM/SMN (me)

The THF and the PLD dual tanked, and the THF did the majority of it. Yes, that's right, we had a THF tank for Fenrir. Here's how we did it..
The THF is very experienced at tanking, as he tanks for our LS all the time. He had an extensive amount of enmity+ gear on -- I think a total of +13. The PLD had +12, just for reference. The THF really wanted a Scorpion Harness, but we couldn't get one for him in time, so he ended up using THF AFII (Assassin's Vest), which worked very well with the enmity+. I believe he also used Dorado Sushi for the enmity+. He also, of course, had a load of +evasion equipment, I think a total of at least +35 or +40, and the BRD kept him double-mamboed at all times (except when Fenrir got near half health and we were anticipating his 2-hr.)
The first time we went in to fight him, we weren't expecting to win, so we went in for a test run -- none of us used our 2-hrs or really expensive equipment (I had 6 ethers with me, more on that later.) The THF actually went down pretty fast, because Fenrir dispel-ga'ed us and wiped out his shadows, then criticalled him for over half his total health. When the THF fell, the PLD tanked for a little while, and we were doing okay except I exhausted my MP very quickly keeping him healed. When I got down to about 100 mp, the BLM escaped us, and Fenrir had about 75% health left.
The next time we went in, we again weren't expecting to win, but we changed our strategy slightly. The PLD decided to voke/flash/cure/whatever to get hate if the THF's shadows were down and he couldn't get them back up quickly. This worked very well -- Fenrir would turn for a moment toward the PLD, hit him once or maybe twice, and the THF would Sneak Attack to get hate back after his shadows were back up. The RDM also stunned frequently when the THF's shadows went down, which was EXTREMELY helpful -- we were very glad the RDM brought DRK sub. The BRD kept the THF and the PLD double mambo'ed and the mages double ballad'ed, and we all got Soul Voice + Dark Carol when Fenrir was down to about half health (by that time, we were doing so well we decided to just finish him off.) My role was basically to keep the THF and PLD healed whenever they got a hit, and to keep the THF hasted. I used Reraise II two or three times during the battle, but it kept getting erased with Dispel-ga, and we finally decided it wasn't worth it, since the BRD had Goddess's Hymnus. I pulled hate once, very early on during the battle, and Fenrir turned and hit me for 650 damage, WITH Stoneskin. I thought I was a goner, but the THF and PLD pulled him off me quickly while each of the mages popped a Cure III on me to keep their own hate under control. Besides that, Fenrir never turned toward anyone except the THF and PLD.
When the 2-hr hit, we were all down in the red and orange, but no one died, and I popped off Benediction immediately. Fenrir never even looked at me, but I later realized that was at least partially because the PLD had voked/flashed/Invicible'ed at the same time to keep the THF from dying, in case his shadows were down. The THF very quickly reclaimed hate after recasting Utsusemi and the battle was cake from there. Toward the end of the battle, the PLD was actually having a hard time getting Fenrir to turn toward him, even with voke/flash/cure, which goes to show how good the THF is.
I think everyone used their 2-hrs sometime during the battle, except maybe the RDM and, in fact, the THF (if either of them did, I missed it.) Both me and the PLD used ours right after 2-hr, the BRD used his right before 2-hr for Carol, and the BLM used his right at the end to nuke the hell out of Fenrir for the kill.
We didn't use very many items, though I was stocked up on ethers in case I ran out of MP. The THF was worried that my low level, combined with the fact that I'm elvaan, might be a problem for MP, but I actually didn't have any trouble at all. I used a Rolandberry Pie solely for the mp boost, and started the battle with about 730 mp. After Benediction, I had about 150-200 mp left and used a super ether for 250 mp, putting me back up over 400. I also used a hi-ether a little while later, but I didn't need to, as I ended the battle with over 150 mp left. Plus, I "wasted" a lot of mp on recasting Reraise II, so I think I could have gotten through the battle with only a hi ether or maybe a hyper ether (supers are 50k on my server, so it was kind of expensive, but I'm not complaining!)
This was an insanely fun battle, and just thought I'd share my unique experience with you guys. I do not believe just any THF with NIN sub or anyone else with NIN sub, for that matter, can do this -- our THF is truly talented. However, if you know someone who is similarily experienced at tanking with NIN sub, and you have a very good party setup, this can be done without a NIN as main tank. As we found out, it was also essential to have a PLD there to voke occasionally when the THF's shadows went down.
Hope this helps, or at least was an interesting story to read! Good luck to all who wish to fight Fenrir, no matter what your party setup!

paid 5 75 smns 100k each...all i had to do was sit back and watch..simply put, they tore him apart. fight was a little over 5 minutes, and just 17 seconds short of beating the record. just one bit of advice. STAY AWAY FROM HIS 2HR. 75 smns, while crazy-strong, still have low def, and will be killed by it.

I posted this in reply to a topic in the summoner section but I'll put it here too incase anyone can use this for any help.

My party beat Fenrir the other day with the following set up -

74RDM/BLM
75NIN/WAR
75RDM/DRK
75THF/NIN
72SMN/WHM
75BRD/WHM

It was a very intense fight which lasted 11 minutes 44 seconds. (Fenrir server record, actually! ^^;)

We got Fenrir to I'd say around 25%HP quite easily. The two RDMs kept the NIN at full HP and also hasted the NIN and the THF. The THF kept the hate on the NIN and did lots of damage. The SMN repeated Spinning Dive and the BRD kept his haste songs onto the NIN.

At half HP Fenrir did his 2hr which didn't hurt too much because the BRD did his dark resistance song just before.
Immediatly after Fenrir's 2Hr the RDM/DRK chainspelled and stunned him while the other RDM made sure the NIN's HP was back to full.

After chainspell ran off Fenrir wanted to bite the RDM/DRK a few times, but left him on 50HP and returned to the NIN.
After this Fenrir got lucky and caught the NIN off-guard with no shadows and killed him with an Eclipse Bite. Before the RDM/BLM could chainspell + nuke, Fenrir killed him too. The other RDM, THF, BRD and SMN followed.

At this point we was about to give up until the THF(who had used a Reraise Gorget earlier) reraised. He cast Utsusemi: Ichi and ran up and engaged Fenrir.
He then did Dancing Edge > Perfect Dodge > Icarus Wing > Dancing Edge.

Then everyone stood up and we went to a cutscene! /Hurray !

Gladly everyone in the party was extremely good at their job and the THF was amazing. ^^b

Goodluck to anyone else with the balls to go into this match without a full party of SMNs. You can do it!
^^

Prolly not, since Fenrir dispels everything you have on and he does this 2-3 times.
yeah right
# Apr 03 2005 at 10:05 PM Rating: Default
first of, theres no way a lvl 75 of any job can take fenrir down on his own. I've seen 6 people lvl 70+ get own by this guy. After so many tries we finally won last night. rdm, whm, blm, pld, rng, smn was the set up. A rdm is really important because everytime we fought him we almost always run out of mp, and we would of died again last night if it wasnt for the rdm, he saved his convert at the very last, he corverted, chainspell and cured 3 people that were in red. He died cuzz of aggro but look on the bright side we all won.
lol

This is going to sound stupid... but I really wanna get this guy so if anyone on fairy server is organizing a party for this (even though I'm only a 20SMN) please tell me... I won't get in the way, I just wanna get the avatar so I'll just sit back and watch as you all beat the crap out of this guy... Ok? Thank you to whoever is going to help me with this. {by the way if you invite me i might be able to get a high level RDM WHM and/or DRG to help us out so I won't be the only one benefitting off this, if you catch my drift...}

Due to elemental weakness, would Searing Light be the best 2hr for use against him?

searing light is the weakest of the 2hrs so due to elemental weakness, it would actually be pretty muchthe same as any others, except for the fact that it would probably do slightly more and carby is weak to fenrir (which is bad) so i suggest taking the slightly weaker 2hrs in exchange for ur avatar not being weak to fenrir's element and fight him on lightsday

easiet method for a leech is PLD tank rng blm rdm and whm have rdm gravity fenrir and kite him while blm nukes him and rng oulls hell on him if ur pld has enough hate 2hr should do about nothing (lvl 53 survied 2hr) after 2hr rng 2hr whm 2hr blm aga 3 bam thats fenrir for ya
