I was going to try to get a couple of my friends to help me out with camping this creepy guy. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with getting past the ornamented door. I read a post on how to do it but the poster added that he thought the key broke each time you opend the door, is that true? if not please tell me otherwise becuase ill do the quest to get to the spawn :3

After killing Charybdis, we decided to kill this guy since we were already in Sea Serpent's Grotto and I needed this coat. Our setup was:

75THF/37NIN (/w TH3)
62WHM/31BLM
73RDM/36DRK (Used DRK as his SJ because he wanted to have fun with his new Joyeuse)
59BRD/29WHM (me)

From the moment we got to the camp, we started killing placeholders (Lagoon Sahagins). After about a half hour, the other NM (Yarr the Pearleyed) spawned. We killed him, and he dropped about 3k in gil. We killed placeholders for another hour or so and Novv the Whitehearted popped. Luckily nobody else was camping him, so we claimed him. It was a fairly quick fight compared to the half hour long Charybdis fight earlier. I wasn't getting my hopes up for the drop because I usually have bad luck with these things, but sure enough it did. I'm 3 levels too low to wear it, but I'll be sure to wear it when I can. =)
hows the camping?

stupid coat.....

After 8 days of this crap I finally killed him with a 75 Nin. We also got the Siren's Hair which is worth 1.5 mil on this server. His spawn time to me was 3-9 hours which is too damn long for a stupid fish. The Lagoon fish (WHM) are the placeholders not the Coastel ones as mentioned by other people. This NM is soloble by Nin or Thfs. Anyways i'm 1/3 for the coat and I couldn't be happier.

Over the last 2 nights I have been killing placeholders. 3 hours 2 nights ago and 6 hrs last night with no pop at all of either Novv or Yarr.

Frustrating, yes, but I WILL get this coat even if it kills me.

EDIT: After 24 hours of on and off camping the last 2 weeks Novv finally popped. It was an easy fight and the coat dropped on the first kill.

Pt setup was:
61BRD/30WHM <me>
73PLD/36WAR
70THF/35NIN
60MNK/30WAR
60MNK/30THF
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b56/shaggloco22/coatdrop.jpg

The THF tanked Novv while the PLD fought a link and was not touched once during the fight.

Uncounted hours and weeks later.. I am 0/5 on Novv and my high level friends are getting kind of sick of camping him for 4-6 hours for not even a siren's hair drop.

I have the absolute worst luck with this fish.

That being said.. My 75 ninja friends have soloed him easy, and a 75 thief that regularly camped him solos him fairly easily as well. I also duo'd him once with a passing Paladin who was /anon but looked to be in the upper 60s from his gear.

Everyonce and a while i'll go up to the gold beastcoin door and solo some EP Sahagin in there w/ my THF75/NIN37. Novv can't really be solo'd. You can pull him in between the 2 rocks w/out having to worry much about link. The only reason I don't see a quick RDM solo on this NM is because there is no room to gravity, and kite it. With all linking EP Crabs and other Sahagin around. To top this, I may have been able to solo this, with proper amounts of Bloody Bolts. The only thing is, at around 50% health he uses WHM 2hr, including his-auto regen effect. I just wasnt doing enough DMG in order to make a lasting effect. I may have been able to solo him within a couple of hours. Maybe. But none of the status effect bolts wouldnt take effect on him. And my marksmanship skill was capped at lvl 75.

So in saying that. What i used to take him down was this startegy...

A THF75/NIN37(utsusemi:ni isnt a must. but helps greatly!). It's a WHM. So lowered def. But that doesnt matter w/ its auto-regen. I grabbed a lvl 65 BRD subbing WHM and she used her staff to SC w/ my dagger. She was WS'ing for around 200 or so. I was ending the SC w/ around 900-1k dmg. w/ daylight dagger. Where the BRD comes in is Mambo and acc. buffs. Not to mention landing requiem on Novv to get rid of his regen effect quick. With an occasional Trick Attack onto the 65 BRD after a couple of SC's to add to the DMG pool. (Hate wasnt so much an issue since i easily out-dmg'd the BRD.) Well, that's it =\

(See you again!)
~Deseree [Leviathan]

**PS: I forgot to mention, We got the Siren's Hair drop which I sold in jeuno for 650k and the BRD got her Ministrel's Coat ;D

as level 73 smn i can solo him pretty easily, i just keep the mob pops in a cycle so when the PH or NM spawns its alone and i can safely pull him behind the rocks. usually one predator claws and a few normal hits from garuda (with dia II on him) is enough to get him to bene. after he benes it takes about 2-3 more BPs to kill him. worse case senario so far has been me haveing to astral flow to save mp but garuda tanks him really well and havent had to recast her (but the battle ends with her being at very low hp). well hope that helps any smns that want to solo him at least.

Well, he can be soloed. I think a drg/whm can solo him and I know a rdm/drk can. Last night I did it and it was probably the most annoying fight so far in ffxi. I went as rdm/drk for attack bonus, Stun and Aspir (and of course the fact that I haven't leveled nin :/). I died once and he died once. In the first fight everything went against me, I was paralyzed fairly often and I think I stunned one Banish III out of 10 or so because he timed it when I was casting something else. Due to a combination of bad luck and mistakes from my side I spent about 10 minutes fighting with around 200-300 hp and less than 100 mp just waiting for Aspir to be ready again and hoping for a break so I could convert and regain a bit. In the end that didn't happen.

I hp'ed and ran back and he was still up. As he had used Benediction in the first round at least I didn't have to worry about that this time. This fight went much smoother and I was able to stun most of his Banishes and also several cures. It still took a very long time due to his annoying Regen (how I wish I could dispel that :/). I had him down very low several times but ill-timed cures kept him up, add to this that when I had to recast several spells at the same time he regened back so much that it was ridiculous. I'm talking from 20% up to 40% or so.

If I would have bothered to use medicines (apart from echo drops of course), this would have been a lot easier as I could have nuked a bit to off-set his regen. As it was now I had to be careful with my mp and didn't feel like trying to speed things up and risk running out before convert.

All I got was a Quus and of course people told me to go pop Cancer :/

I have no doubt in my mind that a Dragoon/White mage could easily Solo Novv, I solo'd Coral Sahagin at DRG70/WHM33, and the two are very similar, identical in level and job type, not even seeing Benediction from Coral was a problem for me (it was just a problem for my ninja friend, we were tag-teaming Abyss & Coral, I took Coral, he took Abyss).

I thought the same thing lol. I kill these guys all the time on my 75 DRG/RDM. There seems to be some difference between Novv and Abyss/Coral though. It does say their levels are the same, but Novv and Zuug hit alot harder. The difference isn't as bad with Novv as it is with Zuug, he can do over 100 dmg to me with buffs up lol. I don't understand it myself, since your right about the levels. Keep fighting the good fight. /salute

Hi, currently I'm 61BRD, but levelling NIN now (58).
I want to try this thing when I hit 60NIN and temporarily retire it to go back to BRD.
I have a 70+SAM who's willing to help, as well most likely a 70WHM (or atleast another 66WHM friend of mine) and probably a 66 and 75RDM (possibly a 70DRK as well).
Unfortunately, as you see, I'd be the tank, as a 60NIN. Is this doable? The really unfortunate part is that I know I'll probably have enmity issues, with 1, possibly 2 70+DDs.

I was just heading over to the pop point and sit there and hope some nice people would get it and let me have it. So I get there and I had to go to bed within the hour, so I asked these guys if I could have it and they said yes. So right before I decided I would hit the hay, it popped and we killed it and we got the drop ^.^ Thanks very much Jenjen and Bannor throwing some props your way ^.^

Camped him for at least 4 and a half hours. No spawn. Not him, not the other NM in the room. Nothing. For me this is a big step in the direction of quitting the game. This kind of inconsistency just isn't fun. Did his spawn method change with a recent update? Can anybody explain what might have gone wrong?

After 0 / 6 on Minstrel's Coat i gave up.....
I had freakin Treasure Hunter III (THF75+Thief's Knife) all the time...

And yes he would get last hit bla bla bla

its kinda not fair how like of all the bards i know, they all got it on their first kill.......................................

:@@@:@ give me a Taru-Taru /hug please ;_;

oh yeah one more important note!!!
a lot of people say that there is another NM popping in the room, this is TRUE, but its not true that either this, or Novv pops.

They are 2 different NM's. The more righter part of the room is the room in which Novv pops, more left side of the room ( near golden BC door ) Yarl the Pearleyed or w/e his name is pops

after 4 hours of killing placeholders, both popped around the same time......

screenshot to prove my theory ^^:

and they got the coat on the first time yes :3

Just did this last night, first off get a gold coin before you go to open the gold coin door (it has no name its just a blank rock, theres acouple all around sea serpent) The first big room right down the little slope is where it spaws, i was there for about 2.5 hours with no-one in there so its most likly random. We had...
62 DRK
64 BRD (myself)
63 PLD
69 RDM (he came in like an hour late for joyeuse hunt)
64 THF
75 NIN
Now this dude was a push-over, the nin and me could of probly solo'd it but it was nice to play safe anyways cause we did have links at times and mousse hurt alot (jelly things). But we finnaly got Novv, 1/1 on Minstrel's Coat 1/1 on Sirens Hair ^.^! 550k on the spot + my coat so we split the 550k (in AH atm) and then we head off the chary which popped and gave our lvl 70 brd the sword to help her win maat (which she did ^(^_^<) so were pretty much all happy now

I went there for the first time with my static last night. We camped in the southwestern tunnel (J-8), and killed the Mousse off when it spawned. At 61, everything was T and we had the occasional VT. The EXP wasn't great, but we burned through them well enough.

After 30 minutes, he spawned right infront of our tunnel. We took him down easy, he was very very squishy. Benedictioned at half health, but it was no big deal. He dropped a sardine, Shellra IV, and a Minstrel's Coat. Yay yay! None of us had to use our 2hs, and here's our party makeup:

60 BRD/WHM
61 WHM/BLM
61 BLM/WHM
61 BLM/WHM
61 PLD/WAR
60 DRK/WAR

He only gave us 96 EXP ... so I'm not too certain he's actually level 74.

Duo'd him with my RDM friend. Got Siren's Hair, the coat, and some other misc stuff, along with about 4k gil. His auto-regen is very strong in the beginning of the fight, but seems to fade later on. When you get him to 50%, he uses Benediction. We were doing Savage Blade >> Hexa Strike and MB-ing Fire3/Holy. The fight took about 10mins. I was WHM/BLM, and my friend was RDM/NIN.

Shared spawn with Yarr!
# Oct 21 2004 at 3:27 AM Rating: Default
While camping this guy today, we discovered that he shared his spawn with Yarr the Pearleyed.

Every 2-3 hours one of the two will lottery in for a Coastal Sahagin.

We killed Novv, then 2 hours later got Yarr, then 2 hours later got Novv again.

Killed him easily with 71drk 68mnk 61brd 60mnk 58whm. Level 3 light chains own these things. No drop.

Some Info I gathered while getting my coat (sucessfully first try)

He's on a 2 hour timer.

He's in the big area immediatly after the gold coin door with the little pool.

I hear it's about a 25% chance of drop, not horrible.

Often he's camped for Siren's Hair, so many times a party will let you (a bard) join their party after killing it so you can lot for the coat, making it possible (though I imagine frustrating) to get this coat solo.

My linkshell killed this NM last night for a Bard.

We went to the spawn area and set up camp in the middle of the room with two boulders on either side.

The NM is a lottery pop of Coastal Sahagins. So we killed all 3 spawns of Sahagins in the room. It seemed that the spawn time on the Sahagins was 10-15 mins per pop. While we were waiting for more Coastals we killed all the other types in the room for skill ups. You can steal Gold Beastcoins from the Sahahgins in this room.

An hour into our camping, he popped. We pull him back and fight him. It wasn't a very hard kill at all. He used Benediction at about 3/4 health. After that we smacked him with Blade: Chi > Dancing Edge for a pretty big Distortion chain, bursted with Ice. When he hit me, he hit for about 130 dmg on a 60 Thief. I mugged ~1k gil off of him.

Party Config:

60 THF/NIN
68 BRD/WHM
53 WHM/BLM
67 NIN/WAR (Tanked)
63 RDM/WHM
60 RDM/BLM
66 BLM/WHM
