Historical Information

Xuan Wu (Genbu in Japanese) is one of the four symbols of the Chinese Constellations, representing the "Black Tortoise of the North" and of the season of Winter. The other three symbols being the "Azure Dragon of the East", the "White Tiger of the West", and the "Vermillion Bird of the South"

Each symbol corresponded to an element in the Five Element system, with Xuan Wu corresponding to the element of water.

  • In the Five Element system in China, there is a 5th legendary beast known as Huang Long, the Yellow Dragon of the Center. While there is no direct equivalent in Japanese, Huang Long is believed to be linked to the dragon Ouryu

Gem drops off Zippy like the other posters said.

Winterstone drops off Olla Grande, popped after kill Olla Media, which is popped after killing Olla something... which is popped by the rare drop item ro'meave water... which involves the infamously boring water farming off aura pots.

ok! Got it?

at least there is the quick and dirty way to take out any ancient magic he throws at you. good old Flash. Of course then the mage gets massive agro...
I can't even fathom fighting this. Eeegads, my main is only lvl 25. (Finallly got off my lazy *** to go level, so I should be able to kill him ooh... May of next year, ^^;)
RE: Wow
# Nov 07 2004 at 12:05 PM Rating: Decent
Flash is for physical attacks only. Stun stops ancient magic. (any slow cast for that matter.)
RE: Wow
# Nov 24 2004 at 3:39 AM Rating: Decent
yes but flash can grab hate, causing the mob to change its target and interrupt its casting.

Neah, mobs can cheat. All it'll do is change the target of the ancient magic onto you.

Uses Water-based Magic. Spells include Poisonga III, Waterga III, Water IV, Flood, and Drown. Also uses the following TP attacks:

Tortoise Stomp (massive single-target damage, blinkable)
Head Butt (single-target damage with a knockback effect, blinkable)
Tortoise Song (erases all song effects on everyone within range, and has a wide range)
Hydro Breath (breath-style attack, cone-shaped damage area from the mouth, water-based)

Two-hour ability is Invincible. Tends to use when it is low on life.

The list above states that you can get W Legs to drop from genbu. My question is, has anyone actually gotten W legs to drop from him?? My LS has gotten every other Abj listed above to drop, but never W legs

The first time i faught him at level 67 whm he scored a non-critical hit on me for 950.

No clue how the 65 WHM that posted before me got hit for only 108. :\

But, as far as the four guardian gods go he's a pansy.

Forced spawn.. however after he dies there is a wait (15 min-ish) before the ??? will respawn. Also, if someone is fighting, the portal to Genbu will be shut down, and you must wait until the fight is over before you can enter Genbu's portal. There are no mobs in the spawn area, so get TP before you use the portal (lots of Sprinklers around to do so).

Genbu was my first God, and a heck-of-a-lot easier than I had thought he'd be. However near the beginning of the battle, I did get hit. As 65 WHM/SMN, one attack hit me for 108 damage, additional effect of 161. O.O We had 20 people, 2 melee outside the alliance who came in just to use TP. Got our PLD some Keonig gloves. Took 12 minutes. ^^

(if you wanna see more Genbu pictures, you can go here: http://www.conquestclub.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=25)

Genbu is EXTREMELY weak. We went there with 24 people (18 people + 1 outside party). We were told to go through the yellow teleporter to tp on pots there. So everyone gets to see it, use spirits or other WS, then about 9 of us went through the teleporter to tp including a PLD, me and another whm. We were stuck. We didn't know the teleporter vanished.

Anyway, the guys upstairs easily took out Genbu. The people left upstairs consisted of four taru BLM, two rangers, one RDM, two PLD, one MNK pimped out in +MND gear, one BRD, one SMN, 3 WHM. I think that was it. Anyway, he went down in under 10 minutes. The first tp blow in the very beginning took about 10% of his health.

I'm glad you mentioned the ??? respawn is 15 minutes. We have the items to do him three times tomorrow. ^^

EDIT: Here's some of our pictures.

The Four Gods Byakko(White Tiger), Genbu(Black Turtle) , Suzaku(Scarlet Phoenix), and Seiryu (Blue Dragon) are four elemental related Gods. They pertain to the Art of Feng Shui and a cross-zenith method of finding enlightenment.

Spawns at j-5. Trade Gem of the North & Winterstone to ??? to trigger.

Someone told me it uses Invincible, Water IV, Flood among other abilities/spells. Cannot confirm this.

Yeah, all of your info is correct as I can confirm first hand. All of the water based stuff he can cast, including drown, waterga III etc. His deadliest attack is his stomp, if it hits, ouch.
