I think you missed the part where the person said that they had one on them, and the person attacked it to get it off him... they were about to join in when... You know the part after that.

I saw him once while looking for a place to ghetto warp. He didnt aggro me but I wish it did, it would be a kewl thing to die from.

He doesn't need tp to use 10,000 needles.
The title should also be "Cactrot Desacelerador"
too lazy to read all post

ok here my story with this ******* *** cactar----

im not going to read all the post but i do know a little about him
_______APPERNTLY________ he uses a ability called 10,000 Needles witch is 10x worse than their familys normal ability, also a speculation that he takes a intire alliance of 75 to kill, i dont know if this is true , all i know for a FACT is.... he hits hard T_T
haha

Yeah, and the photo was of you two steps across the starting line. ;)

Anyway, not much to say that hasn't been said. Ultra-fast, crazy-hard to catch, will kick your *** if you manage to catch him. Bring a friend. Or 17.
Super Hard NM
# Dec 28 2004 at 5:14 PM Rating: Decent
Don't Mess with this guy. I was in the desert running towards the zone and decided to take on a regular cactus to see how hard there special really is. I was lvl 60nin/thf at the time, and after beating down the "To Weak to be worth while" cactus with ease it used it's specail 1000 needles. Well i died, had 997 hp damn almost made it. The Moral of the story is if a lvl 60 ninja can die to a "To weak to be worth while" cactus, this NM must be a badAa$$. P.S. My blink was up, it went right through it.
Best FFXI night ever!

A few LS friends were in Eastern altepa for some reason and started to try and catch him. Nothing worked. They told me the name, so I instantly came on this site and researched.

First off, our party consisted of 4 members, a high 30's DRK, almost 60 WHM, and a mid 50's PLD, and me lvl 45 WHM.

I told them the few strategies I saw. So, the WHM switched jobs to RNG, and uses Eagle Eye Shot on it before I get there. It hit him for only 25 hp, and keeps on running and doesnt hesitate.

Once I got there, I saw him run by once. I set macro for Bind, but it doesn't cast fast enough (and probably wouldn't stick). So, we decide to go with the linking sstrategy. We grab a few sabotenders and run towards his path. I aggro an Antican that chases us, and I'm more worried about that. The party stops running, and I turn around, and there is Rapido in Kung Fu stance. The Paladin hits it for 6 hp with Holy, then dies after 2 consecutive hits from Rapido. Then he suddenly takes off. I die from the Antican, while other 2 members run to Western zone. I deleveled in the process, but i couldn't stop laughing.

Also, earlier in the night, a taru fell down the trap door at Castle Oztraja. We were doing mission to get me rank 5, and I warned the taru not to stand there. We pull lever, and he falls in. It was beautiful.

Best night ever on FFXI :-D

This is another method to fight this NM, but I'm not sure how effective it will be.

Get a party or alliance of high lvl RNG/THFs & THF/RNGs. Either all of you spread out, or go to a place that the NM usually runs by (I've seen him run near (H-8) often). Have everyone watch the NM on Widescan, and /shoot <t> whenever he runs by. As long as you start the shot within range, unlike spells, the arrow/bullet WILL connect. Also, you can Eagle Eye Shot the NM. (I know this from personal experience.) Keep doing this until the NM dies :-D

Because of this strategy, no one will take any damage, so it's perfectly safe. Tell me if this works for you: Good Luck!

If anyone was paying attention:
Quote:
It should be noted that Rapido, while not aggro'ing, he DOES link with other cactuars.

If you are going to hunt him wait near a spot he passes by, best to have a rng, and when he starts getting close attack a castuar. In theory if he links, you should successfully have pulled Rapido.

If on Quetz and you do get Rapido with my explanation I think a donation might be in order.^^

wow

I saw him 3 weeks ago chasing a Thief with Flee down. The Thf was lvl 62 and got schooled. I feared it would aggro n hid.

It should be noted that Rapido, while not aggro'ing, he DOES link with other cactuars. when I was lower lvl, a lvl 60 character pulled aggro from another cactuar from me, and Rapido beat them down in 3 hits.

I have a slight recommendation. This is alittle expensive, but from what I have seen all good strategies tend to be. When you go into this fight have 6 rangers and/or thfs (has to be mains) and use Spartan bullets. These, though doing almost 0 dmg will stun. And as everyone knows, stun stops ALL attacks. This is a neat trick if you ever want to make short work of IT gobs, the only problem is, you have to have enough ppl in the pt so that you are having a gun fire every second, but the ppl shooting are still able to do their melee attacks so they can help deal dmg. There are of course other ways to stun, e.g. have all your warriors get 100 tp before going into battle, and setup a TP chain, each person pays attention to the person who last used their TP attack, and then follow with theirs when they see the cactar ready 10k needles. This obviously being a recipe for disaster. I don't know about you, but every time I have been in a pt of more then 3 ppl, you always have one person who thinks they know better, or forget. And one more side point on this issue, The guns can miss, and the bullet can fail to stun, so there no sure thing there either.

Anyways, I am not even lvl 40, so I can't speak from any lvl of experience against this thing, but I do know alittle about a: his spawn habits (I lvl in altepa), b: using status effects (at lvl 32 I could fight evens in Yuthunga Jungle and altepa and kill them at about a 90% rate as a thf/nin:).

P.S. He spawns in Earth Elemental effect... don't know if that is only when he spawns, but that accounts for every time I have seen him.

And I haven't seen it here, but he links and does not aggro. He moves too fast to be in the range of attack by anyone (I heard rumor of a thf/wave doing a flee provoke, but that was a rumor). And unlike the goby bomb (which apparently a few poor ppl here have experienced) it's TP attack will hit everyone in range. The reason it does this is to prevent ppl from getting smart and not having the mages in the pt. If the attack was like the goby bomb, the logical thing then would be to have the mages not in the pt... heck you could even fill their places if you wanted to further split the winnings. But, since they made it evil, then this is a moot point isn't it?

Just killed Cactrot Rapido with 12 people. The key to beating him is to kill him in about ten seconds or so. The reason being is that this guy likes to spam 10,000 needles like crazy. About 5 seconds after we started the fight, he used one and did 666 damage to us then before I could even count to see how long his next would be, he did it and did 833 damage. But now I've got the great title of Cactrot Desacelerador but sadly we did not get any of the good drops. Also, he drops Cactuar Root, so you might want to put that on the list.

By the way, 10,000 needles ignores blink.

Just seen this running around when I was on my way back from levelling to 34. I was just out of its sight when I saw it pop right in front of me.

It's extremely fast. I'd say 2 - 3 times faster than a running Chocobo. I went back to Rabao, changed sub to Ranger and went looking for it, as I always take screenshots of the NMs I see. It was running away from me and I couldn't keep up at all. I eventually managed to head it off and got a great picture of it speeding towards me, while I sit there waiting.

At the time, I didn't know it was harmless, and I warned people in the area about it. Better to be aware than sneaked up on and your whole party battered to pieces...

Here's how you beat him...get a full Alliance of people and have each person (cept for tank(s)) sub BST or SMN. If you have 3 tanks who neeed to sub WAR the other 15 people in the alliance would have 15 pets so....10,000/33people and creatures to take 10,000 needles = 303 damage. A lot better than what it could be.
Rapido
# Nov 23 2004 at 3:22 AM Rating: Decent
You need a full alliance of 75 to beat him, 6 whm, 4 blm, 4 pld, 4 dd (rng) usually go good. The whm and blm stay way back as the pld's chain voke him, blm nuke like a bunch of freaks, whm spam curaga after 10,000 needles, hell hit a 75 pld fo like 30 dmg maybe more, rng spam sidewinder, keep blink and stoneskin up.
Stone Skin???
# Nov 22 2004 at 3:17 PM Rating: Decent
Has anyone ever tried too use a SMN and buff with stone skin for the whole pt...... i bet that would take off some of the dmg from 10,000 needles cuz when i was in quicksand caves with a SMN in my pt he used Titans stone skin on the whole pt and the IT anticans there hit me for 0 the first time and then about 30 the second time then stone skin wore off and it me for the normal 80-120

Yes, when my LS had our humorous run in with him, I was quick to throw up earthen ward. I can't say if it did help. When 10,000 needles was shot, I just saw all our green bars go to red and 0. I don't think it helps in this case. I think this is similar to everyone's grudge. It is purely mathematical and isn't reduced by buffs of any sort.

10,000 needles does 10,000 damage divided by the number of people in range. Stoneskin will eat some of the damage

Stoneskin absorbs the damage from 1,000 needles fine enough. Probably the damage overwhelmed your earthen ward. EW just couldn't absorb enough.

Just had the funniest fight with him. We had a full alliance and decided why not give it a shot. We were various lvls ranging from 60-75. Anyways, our rdm buffs up and links them and gets very excited. He runs towards us and dies in three hits. I used assault and we tried voking and it still ran. We tried once more. Our blm pulled a sabotender to camp and put it to sleep. Out of nowhere (and I swear it was literally out of nowhere) Cactrot Rapido is in the middle of our camp beating us up. Our tank vokes and dies in about three hits. At this point, I am keeping away for fear of his dreaded special. She dies in about 3 hits and all of the sudden I saw the entires alliance's hp bars go from full to 0 or in the red. So, at this point we were running. Cactrot Rapido was finding random ppl to murder as we tried to zone. I turned around to look behind me and out of nowhere there he was smacking me. It was a pretty bad massacre. All of us were laughing so hard we were in tears. I got an R3 though from a really nice whm, so I can live with a good laugh. ^^

A friend in my LS was fighting Sabotenders when he saw Cactrot Rapido pop out of the ground to tear everyone to pieces. When he was done, he sank back into the ground. O_o This might explain how he "came out of nowhere."

We tried to fight it today with 12 people and 4 carbies and.... it was ugly, lol. 10,000/16 divided among a bunch of taru is a bad, bad time. It led to one of the funniest things I've seen in this game, so horrible I had to laugh. Some poor guy decided to watch us on chocobo. Well, he got divided into the 10,000 needles too and died.

We reraised, raised him though, tried again with 14 people and 300tp. He has not nearly enough HP to make him tough if you just deal an insane amount of damage to him ast. Even our whms and blms and brds started off with 300tp and our 2 mnks 2hr'ed. He's just a fun fight, and the title is worth gold.
alliance owned!

I was lvling my sword skill in east altepa today and saw a high lvl war run past me with a train of sabotenders....i followed him just for the heck of it and finally noticed rapido running across the screen. the war lead the rapido to an alliance of 16 lvl 75 ppl. About 5 minutes later they were all dead! Its aoe hit me for 776 hp so this thing is far beyond lvl 75!
