Hmm if anyone gets a good video of him and him getting attacked or defeated. Wow cool it's like that cactuar boss in ff8 with 10,000 needles except it doesn't move that fast to catch it (Yeah in ff8 you can get a summon a big catuar but first you have to catch it and then fight with it. It sticks it's head up in the world map groud and you have to run on it and fight with it and it does 10k needles but only way in ff8 to stop it is use somekind of invincible item but thats only way to stop 10k needles but that doesn't help much)
Ok this is for the guy that said if your solo 1000 needles will do 1000 to you Ive faught these things alot and even solo before on my high lvl. the attack does not do 1000 to you solo on high lvl he did it to me for 80 in a pt on mid lvl i was argoed by one and it hit for 220 with my pt members not around me and when in pt he did it again after my members caught up and it was still around 220. Dont post false assumptions here. it does not do 1000 to you solo
This guy does 10,000 needles, not 1000 - but anyway, it does 10,000 dmg to the whole pt spread out evenly. According to my JP friend, you need a couple of summoners and beastmasters to fight this guy, so that those extra friendlies can absorb some of the dmg. BTW, i was soloing a too-weak regular cactuar and it did 1000 dmg to me with 1000 dmg, so i'm pretty sure that unless you have some mad dmg-reducing items, it does 1000 dmg ignoring armor (sorta like spirits)
Well, perhaps I should have read some of the reader comments before my amigos and I went out to East Altepa and were abusing the wildlife. For the record, I think that adding the information that this guy DOES and WILL link is neccessary.
Last night three other linkshell members (x1 50DRK/25THF, x1 41PLD/??WAR, x1 41RDM/15THF) and myself (48RDM/24THF) went to Korroloka Tunnel to kill spideys. That wasn't enough for us so we ventured out into East Altepa. We killed off the wildlife there, went to Rabao, then to West Altepa to spend some time, then came back to East.
We'd seen quite a few Cactaur and Sabotender, but they were all pretty tough, so we were in search of an easy one to kill before we left. We found one, took it out. We ended up coming across another.
We had to take the Antican out because I got Flashed by it and we had some linkage. After that we went to brutally assualt a nearby Sabotender that was Easy Prey to me (48RDM/24THF).
We had taken previous one fine, but out of the blue came a second Sabotender. We were like "Link!" but god only knew what was waiting for us. I didn't see the name as I was too close to the other one to catch the one that just "linked".
We didn't heal unless we went really low in battle because we knew we could handle it. But that was a mistake on our part...
Our PLD took over 400pts of damage and fell flat on his face to the ground. We started to panic then before we knew it our RDM took over 400pts and fell flat. The DRK and I hadn't been close to the PLD and RDM. Once those two fell, the NM kept running on it's merry way. I assume you have to be within a certain range, or within his "running path" to get the link.
Needless to say, the DRK used flee with a Sabotender on his behind. I was left with two dead bodies and starting to panic. I cast Sneak on myself then a moment later had a Sabotender stick me in the butt with a needle. I started to run for the nearby zone. He hit me a couple times for 40 some odd points of damage, missed me a few times, then I guess I ran out of his range because I stopped getting hit. (Or they give up easy.)
I zoned and had to go raise my two friends... after waiting for Sabotenders and Anticans to walk far enough away to raise them and have them run behind a hill where it was safe to recover.
Definately a scary, yet funny experience. I would advise anyone taking sabotender out there to be very careful. I believe if you're in this guys running path he will link, take you out in 1 blink, then continue his ritualistic jog. Even if he attacks PT members I think they have to be in that "running path" of his and he doesn't worry about the rest of ya.
This guy runs faster than flee or chocobos, or any combination - the only way to catch him is to link him onto another cactuar (thats how HNM alliances get him). So, watch out for him if fighting cactuars (which is never a particularly good idea, btw)
We just killed this guy XD We had a full alliance, all about lv.60-75ish. He dropped the ring and some cactuar stems or whatever. WHMs be prepared to die on this guy @_@ I had reraise 2 up and as soon as I went down I popped back up to Benediction my party. We got him by linking him w/a Sabotender (of course). I'd used Flash on him earlier and hit him w/it, but it still didnt stop him. Best thing to do if you're a whm, spam curaga till you're dead. o.o;
this guy's cute, he just ran his *** off. i was so exicted (doing my AF1 with a pretty damn good party of 5) i tried to voke it (so did the rest of my party including the whm using dia) and it just kept on running... pretty cool actually, i have a pic of it but it looks like crap.
Edit: buddy right behind me just told me about how it'd kill me in 3 hits... good thing that voke/dia didnt connect :\.
As a BST I was trying to catch him thinking I could use ALOT of pets to take him out. Tried Charming him as he ran past as this will also set other NMs names to red for you to attack. That didn't work either. So I got him in widescan and put Track on him so I could see where he was going and maybe send a pet after him. I could never get the pet to attack it though.
Eventualy he linked as I was fighting a Sabotender and he made short work of my EVEN con pet and turned back around and ran off while the Sabotender came after me.
Thinking maybe a good party of pet users like BST and SMN could take him down by letting the pets take the 10000 needles then sending in the second wave of pets before he runs off.
Then again, getting an alliance of BST and or SMN would be a challenge unto itself.
Last 5 times I have gone into the east altep the rapido has run in the same path as always... if you want to catch him, just find a place where he runs by and wait for him to come. when he does use a provoke macro and voke him. really isnt hard to catch... just hard to kill =P
a friend of mine (lvl39 DRG) and myself (lvl43 RDM) got bored of camping for Morion Worm, so we decided to explore Altepa for the first time...wen we got to the surface we admired the vast landscape of Altepa....started running around lookin at the spiders and dhalmels wen ZOOOOOOM!! that thing runs by and we stop in our tracks...after jumping an Antican, we rest and it runs into us....after the initial heartattack we were happy it didnt aggro....cant wait to come back at higher lvls to take it down ^.^
I was helping a guy do DRG AF1 this morning .... went to Altepa, and we were clearing the area of aggros. After a few Anticans, there was a Sabotender dangerously close to the area, so I attacked it...
Normally with Stoneskin + Phalanx, nothing there can remotely touch me. Imagine my surprise when I got a "link" and then saw my 1000+ HP drop 300 ;;
Long story short, don't touch Sabotender. This guy is fast enough that you don't see him coming until you're dead. Kind of lame if you fall victim to him unintentionally.
I'll get him someday though~ Bring a revenge alliance, that's kind of my thing.
I saw him while going to get the altepa gate crystal. Here I am for the first time in the desert. Scorpions (ok) spiders (seen those before) manticores (/em checks to see if sneak and invis are still good) Some giant bird thingy... (gave it a wide berth)
I stopped to recast sneak when this thing goes ZOOOOOOOOOM!!! right under my nose. (Nothing like having your personal space invaded by an nm doing 60 0_o; )
Only parts I remember after that are CRYSTAL --> GRAB --> CHAINWARP and making a mental note not to go back there till Im 75.
Before I knew that you had to engage Sabotenders and it would add in the fight as it passed by, I tried everything to get this NM.
It go to a point were I had Provoked it 3 times, shot it three times, and used Eagle Eye Shot on it (and only took away about 1/20th of its health at lvl 50) once. Then a PLD I was with Provoked it once, used Holy twice, and also Flashed it twice...
After seeing Eagle Eye Shot do almost no damage though, we both decided that it was probably safest to leave it alone.
