I just walked up to her and get and Earthen Charm .. i wasn't expecting that.

After completing The Root of the Problem, you are told to see Kupipi for an Earthen Charm so you can investigate what is going on beyond the Gate of Earth. That's why you would get this item from her.
I tried to trade her a rolanberry. She got all excited and told me to come back later or something... (maybe she didn't, I can't remember it was that long ago).
But I have spoken to her several times since then, and have yet to see my key. :/ I did the Aspir quest there, but I also hear there is a mission in the three mages.
Do I need to do this mission to get the key?

1) I'm emailing the key item and it's quest to haggan today

After doing the optional Windurst mission involving a gate that is opened by three mages, give her a rolanberry. She will give you a key item that allows you to pass through the gate all by yourself.
She is the NPC for the Rank 3 missions in Windy.
I think she's involved in a lot more quests than this.
