RDM fighting in a party on the beach in Valkurm Dunes. This Ghost popped up out of the ether and whipped my butt dead before I knew what hit me.

Must be a new addition to the Dunes!

Before I get started, I'd like to state that I am somewhat new to this game, and this was my first encounter with a Ghost enemy.

I fought one of these things as a lv. 16 MNK. Top of the line equipment, maxed health, and I fought one of these things alone. It was an Even Match.

Yeah, and I'm Bill Gates' black rapper of a son.

I started fighting this thing, and though I was landing 5-8 damage per blow, it was landing around 20, and that's not including the spells. I even used my 2-hour against this guy, and I barely got him down to 30-35% of his health when he (and a skeletal friend of his) finally performed the mercy killing.

I'm sure the skeleton didn't help matters, but this guy was clearly not feeling physical damage. Are these things like Elementals and resistant to non-magical attacks, or what?

Ghost at the Craig
# Aug 27 2004 at 2:21 PM Rating: Decent
I was doing a quest and delivered something to a NPC at the Craig of Holla. Thought I would log out there and go on to Valk the next day for some partying and leveling. Imagine my surprise when I logged back on and was face to face with one of these things...and I'm only a level 14 RDM! Well, we stared at each other for a minute, then I decided to slip behind the NPC and see if it would still come after me. My little Taru wound up hiding under the NPC's robe and eventually the Ghost moved on. I usually hate the Valk beach...but this was one time I was glad to see it!
Curse

They cast Curse which is a real pain in the backside. It will last for a very long time depending on ur resistances as I have heard of some people being cursed for hours.

Ive been soloing the ones in tahrongi since I was lvl 15, Holy Circle plus Undead bonus on my PLD makes for a simi easy kill at that level and a 4 hit chump now at 33.
If you're looking for ghosts...

My advice is to go to Tahrongi Canyon, and near the Crag of Dem, there is a huge skeleton of a dragon of some sort. Wait until night-time, and ghosts spawn all over it, usually 1-3.

Damn them, hanging around my excavation points! KILL THEM ALL!

That's weird because as 14 MNK I was aggroed by this so i took it and told a friend to start on another EM so I killed this, then got the Quadav he started. Sweetness, we got a chain. Good for a party of WAR and MNK IMO.
These things are easy

I easily soloed it at level 20, going to the yellow. I was lvl 20 rng/ 10 thf. I got a cotton cloth too.

I was returning to Bastok from Valkurm at night, having PT'd and getting my subjob items. This thing jumped me for 30 dmg. I managed to stick a Bind on it, and ran like hell for Gustaberg.

I tried to solo of of these as a level 22 thief... I didn't managed to land my sneak, it started hitting HARD, got me into the yellow, and a second ghost aggroed. =/

Thankfully there was a high level paladin nearby that cured me before I died and killed 'em both with fair ease. ^^;

Beware low lvl mages, these little buggers hate magic they will agro somone using magic almost worse than provoke itself, I have had a few incidents with these as a WHM, Now I have too kill one every time I pass through just for pay back lol

Why are you a WAR/WHM?
WHM owns the undead yet again
# Feb 19 2004 at 4:38 PM Rating: Decent
These are easy for a 20+ WHM to solo Just cast cure spells on them and they go down pretty quickly. I farm these (for cotton cloth and luminicloth) and the wind elementals in tahrongi my lvl 36 WHM now, Makes decent money in the AH.

Mellee's should be careful of these though, they resist physical damage and can easily take down a lvl 30 WAR or MNK.... these things are meen when you can't silence them and Cure them to death.

Also drops Cotton cloth and revival root
how to handle them
# Dec 12 2003 at 3:22 PM Rating: Decent
Your best bet if you're actively fighting these is to have a BLM or a RDM bind the ghost adn spam fire spells while other party members use ranged. Once it breaks froo of bind, hit it hard and have WHM's cure2 in party and avoid having your mages close to it so AOE drain is minimum.
Healing Hurts
# Dec 03 2003 at 5:39 PM Rating: Default
I think healing spells really hurt these guys... That's what the WHM's were saying when one attacked us and we killed it...

Near the entrance to the shakrim Maze you will find Ghosts and poltergiests REGARDLESS of the time of day, keep that inmind when heading there. And please if you get agrod.... dont run into the cave unless you absolutely have to, it justs screws whoever is coming out (like my last party). And the poltergiests are wicked, I watched one (the warrior version I think) pick apart a WAR17 in about 4 hits and it only took about 17 dmg.

I got torn apart by a poltergeist as a level 23 THF... It read Easy Prey, it turned before I could land my Sneak. Horrible monsters. ><;

Ghosts = undead, poltergiests = evil weapon. Undead will only be out at night, but the poltergiests will be out all day.
Nasty
# Dec 03 2003 at 5:07 AM Rating: Default
They do an AOE hp drain. Me (WAR16) and a friend (THF15) got taken apart by one that was a 'decent challenge'. Only a passing WHM chain casting Cure2 on us saved us. The ghost could heal itself from almost dead to half hp in one AOE drain.
