Just beat this as 56blu/nin(me) + 54blm/whm + 50rdm/nin

Pretty clean fight. Debuffed him a bunch and widdled him down for about 6 minutes. Clear out orcs around him first and you are fine. I could have probably soloed him if i was a few levels higher but with all three of us he was a joke.

Good luck!
This guys easy

Just beat this guy as 60Drg/30Sam.
He's not that tough actually even with manafont(which was more like chainspell)
I used Skewer 4 times for 700-900 Dmg which only took out a bit of his HP so he does have alot of HP though.
I'd say a good 60 could solo this guy.
Soloed as 74 blm

Just soloed this as 74 blm/whm with my NPC fellow as backup healer. Very easy fight. Just kept hitting him with Dark Staff, and using Drain, Aspir and Thunder III whenever I could. He seems to resist Blizz IV, but Thunder III hit for about 500-600 each time. After the fight, I added up all the damage I did: he appears to have about 7200 HP.

By the way, I pulled him into the path to the west of the clearing where he spawns, so there were no links to mess with.

#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 08 2007 at 11:21 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) As several posts have stated, this guy has a ton of HP. Soloed this today as BLM58/WHM29, only using Stoneskin three times throughout the fight. He loves his -ga's with his main spells being Waterga II, Stonega II, Firaga II, Water II, and Blizzard II. As BLM 58, his Tier 2 spells were hitting for less than 50 damage each with only Shell and Prot II up. He will stay at a distance for a while, but will eventually move in closer to melee. He has MP for days, so Aspir and Drain as much as you need to. His melee is pretty strong, hitting for around 20-50 each swing (Why a BLM Orc is using a sword is beyond me). Silence and Paralyze will not stick. ES + Silence + Wind Staff didn't work, so I'm assuming he is immune.
Beat it down!!
# Sep 17 2006 at 1:46 PM Rating: Decent
Beat this guy w/ me (RDM41/BLM20) and my friend who is whm62/blm30. As the other posts say...this guy has a ton of hp. I just kept refreshing my whm friend while he tanked. I threw in a Water II every once in a while, and when i had good mp I would melee w/ enwater. He did most of the big healing (like cure IV and such) while I did cure II on him a couple of times. But we beat it :P. Now for the hard part...finding that damn storage hole >.<. Wish me luck! ^^

Edit: Got it last night! Went to davoi by myself and shouted if anyone has seen the storage hole to /tell me. Was fighting easy preys...and got a link >.<...was saved by a high lvl mnk, then i asked that person if he has seen the storage hole. He has! I asked him to show me and sure enough...(and luckly) it was back where the Too Weaks are ...and that was the end of it. I walked to San d'Oria and claimed my prize...after seeing a kool cutscene. The cutscene left unanswered questions...I'm guessing as I do the rest of the AF quests I will see some closure.

Just messing around today and found this guy. I started to take it as a 60 WAR/NIN. He has A LOT of HP's. His 2 hr stared to bring me down a little more than I liked so I had my Wife, 75 WHM/BLM come help me out since she was around. I used rampage 3 times at 900-1100 dmg each time, and it just dented his HP each time.

A long time ago, when I was a 52PLD, my 40RDM buddy needed help with this. I agreed to help, thinking it would be cake. We got to the spawn site, buffed as best we could and engaged, promptly getting links from the two orcs nearby.

The RDM managed to sleep the links, and we killed Purpleflash, but it was an extremely long fight. So long, in fact, that the orcs the originally linked respawned and linked again before it was over! The whole fight, links and all, took us 20 minutes. Despite being a tough fight, it was probably the most fun I've ever had playing FFXI.

The point is, it's possible to do this with a medium-size tank, just be careful not to link his buddies if you can help it. Also, Purpleflash resisted Sleep and Silence, even with Elemental Seal. I went back at a later date to help another RDM and it was the same story, even with Sleep/Silence coming from a much larger WHM. This NM is incredibly difficult to stick those enfeebles on- don't count on them when forming your strategy.

Going back to do this for me tonight, and I'm bringing the same RDM I helped originally to help me get a little vengeance. I have a feeling the fight will be much easier this time around. The RDM I'm bringing is level 66 with capped enfeebling magic, so I'll make him try to Sleep/Silence and post his results after the fight.

Edit: I made the 66RDM I came with open the fight with Elemental Seal + Silence, and it wouldn't stick. He tried a few more times during the fight, but with no success. It's my belief that this particular NM can't be silenced, but he does seem to run out of MP at a certain point. We just beat him to death and at about 1/3 health ( after Manafont, too ) he ceased casting and just tried to melee us. For what it's worth, his physical attacks aren't that powerful. I took numerous hits and he never punched a hole in Stoneskin/Phalanx.

This dude takes forever to kill. i needed RDM AF so i sent a tell to a RDM 68 that i knew. he was camping VE but he quickly droped it to help. he brouught his sister who was a lvl 45WHM and between her healing and the two of us fighting useing Enwater (orcs ae weak to water FYI) it took us about 30 min to get it down to about 1/4 of its HP at that point we just nuked the thing with enough spells that itr dropped fast... then it took another hour of searching for the hole. we found it as we were giveing up and leaving.
very easy

A friend 51 rdm needed it so i went in as rdm58/nin29 ; fully buffed, Enthunder + Aquaveil.
I used 2 sabers + full af except hat as i was 58;
he also fought and healed i healed myself too.
Fight was short we ended up w. very little mp but almost 75% hp. I guess we were lucky as there was only 1 of his orc friends that linked. His hits and magical attacks were a joke against Protect3 and Shell3 ; i think we even forgot to silence him lol, though we landed lots of Paralyze on him.
HOWEVER when a nin68 friend helped me did this when i was 40 we both died coz of links + no buffs

When I was doing my AF1 for my RDM I ran to Davoi to fight this guy. I was running as 75BLM/RDM since I didn't want to have to worry about any agro on the way to him or in any other place else for that matter. But to my surprise it agrod me when I rounded the corner leading to his ???.

So probably someone before me had tried to kill him and lost. But the funny thing is that he actuly agros a lvl 75. Sure he wasn't a threat at all but he did get his initial SleepII to land. But I didn't take any damage at all during the fight even with 4 linking mobs.
Found my Storage Hole on the center island near the Monument for CN map.

Maybe the agro was because I was on that quest. Will have to try and see if I get agro more times from him when not on the quest.

This quest is total BS. how do they expect a 41RDM to get anywhere near doing this solo? i just did 2 attempts as 50RDM/25BLM, and almost died both times. all solo.

first attempt, went pretty smooth till i got a link. jsut kept sleeping it and going on. then, another link. np, its a ranger, ill just leave it alone. got Purpleflesh down to 60%, had to warp out. couldnt do it. im VERY good at soloing for my level too there is now ay to pull thsi safely either. you get links no matter where you go. SE really needs to dumb down the level of this mob a bit, because this is just crazy. how can they expect a RDM to get anywhere close to completeing this solo?

need at least 60+ or a lot of friends to do this BS quest. GL

Purpleflash Brukdok being a Lvl45 NM mob sounds low and make it be a wuss but damn he's got high
defense!I and a friend[Marduke lvl66 PLD][Hades Server]went over to Davoi to acquire my AF1 about 3 weeks ago!I knew all details about locating him and finding the storage key hole so on and so on[which btw you should try and find prior to battling Purpleflash
...makes it easier to get through the process]which could be anywhere in Davoi;or should i say
in various locations!try and look at entrance of Davoi where there's a big opening...weak mobs to a lvl 40!anyways back to finding him...he's at [F-9]before u go over the log bridge where if u cross it at lvl 40,you just have committed Suicide!^^So don't cross that log bridge!!!There's a few mobs in the area where he spawns at the ???, so i do suggest you clear them out fast...don't want no uninvited guests over for the battle;they can be a nuisance...lol...which i and the PLD had to clear out and fight while battling Purpleflash...not so good!I'd say he's got over 6k in HP and his defense is that of a IT+ for me[lvl 41 RDM]
PLD did decent dmg on him but took a while to bring him down, along with his friends...we never reached danger zone, thank Altaana for that, but we gave them all we got!Enfeebled da **** outta him with everything he'd be weak at..except silence...which he resisted well!Melee Dmg was constant and restless,SCs were landing for a few good hits;i even manged to start SC and finish w/ a MB!As for him,he Spammed lvl 40+ BLM spells but barely put a dent on us![both Galkas to^^]He's a fun NM to kill and for him to have brought friends along in the fray made it more challenging;which we Galka love
to see in the heat of battle!the whole point of the story is that if u know what you're doing and you bring a friend along, you can do this quest rather easy and fun, even at lvl 41>>>and as for INFO,you can read all the posts related to this NM which will help u prepare for the battle!Reading the AF1 quest is helpful too! There's nothing like having the best site guide
your way to Glory and Power! So thx for all the folk who make this site what it is,the players that post their experiences and tips/hints and the firneds that we have Online...which sometimes would be hard to do some things w/o them!As for Final Praises....Hail to all RDMs in all Servers;everyone knows that we are the Sh*t
when it comes to PT battles[refresh/haste],and Great at Solo Combats[Specially some NMs](^_^)

when i was still a noob even at lvl 40 i didn't know anything about AF so during a PT a whm asked if i did AF1. Since still a noob i responded no obviously, so he says he ll help me do, and later after PT ends I see him beating the crap outta 5 orcs, and see this thing pop. While watching i check what lvl he is and bam 75 rdm/blm <stunned> and he basically soloed this thing, we found hole, he warped out and i got my kick *** sword, thx Coryd ahh good times lol

Did this to help a RDM at 68THF/34NIN and it was annoying, but easy. Once he gets down near half health, he'll spam magic, but I survived without losing more than 300 HP, but it still was a pain. In the end, I finished it with a 1251 damage Dancing Edge.

I soloed this as 53RDM/26BLM <.<
Just buffed up before fight -.-
Phalanx>>ProtIII>> Shell II>> Haste>> Stoneskin>>
Just started the battle with Aspir. Just kept my buffs up ^^ but JESUS CHRIST he has alot of hp >.< lol about 6k I would say <.< umm.. didn't really have any help ... was annoying though >:(

Took my 40 RDM friend to get this done. He's a piznatch to a 72 Monk. After Chakra, I ended the fight with 1664 HP.

When he spit out Manafont, he kept casting Poison2, and other De-buffs, only one that hit was Bio. Only reason he got some Damage in, was because of Firega2.

I realize your message was a few weeks ago, but the information should still be useful.

I helped my friend kill this NM last night for his AF, I believe he was a 42 RDM, maybe 41, and I was 59BLM/WHM.

First of all casting nuke spells on it was never resisted for me, Silence was resisted a few times, so I switched to my AF body for the + enfeeble...
Once silenced, it seemed to hit harder, so blind it then silence it I think. Fight was long, would have been faster if I ever used TP, but I kept switching staves from my nuke macros, I'd suggest just using the Ice staff and manualy nuking (Water3 did about 350 each time).

Its spells hit me for rather little, it never successfully Slept me, its melee attacks did more total damage to me, I guess because I kept it Silenced. A tank would have been nice.

Other than that, I manafonted towards 1/4 of its life and nuked it 4 or 5 times to kill it because I was getting bored and didn't want to wait for Refresh from my friend.

I'd say a 42 RDM wouldn't have any chance of soloing it, a 50 might, but why risk it? Its got alot of hp, (7500 one post said) so... sounds like a BLM/WHM or RNG/NIN would be nice.

* Also, I never noticed it manafont, maybe I had silenced it afterwards.

Food used: Steamed Crab
... yep, that's it

I killed the orcs in the area and the area next to the spawn area. Rested to full, buffed: Refresh Protect III, Shell III, Stoneskin in that order. Then rested again, and then buffed: Phalanx, Haste, Blaze Spikes, Enwater (Orcs are weak to water so it'll be full affect more). At this point I switched out my +mp gear for my RDM solo gear.

Pulled with aspir to top me off. I pulled him down into the river with the pugs since they won't aggro me and no orcs go there. I debuffed him with bio II, slow, paralyze, and Blind. All of which Stuck easily on the first cast. By the time I was done debuffing I'd already knocked off about 1/20 of his health and finally nailed him with a 300% Shining blade.

After that he manafonted so I switched to my Bar-spell macro set and cast barspells matching his spells. Half way through he cracked my stoneskin but then got dumb and casted poison II and bio II over and over till it was done. When that was over I started my aspir/drain cycle while getting my buffs back up again (which took quite awhile thanks to him sleeping me so much).

It was pretty easy from there. whole battle took probably 11 or so minutes. I used convert at 45% health remaining and did not need chainspell nor did I need any medicene nor regen drinks.

Edit: I forgot to mention this was an entirely solo effort, I had no help whatsoever. No one even bothered to come watch ;_;

Tarutaru 50RDM/25BLM AF Weapon solo [success]! :D
# May 15 2005 at 12:05 PM Rating: Decent
One food used: Tavnazian Salad
One drink used: Persikos au lait
One Super-ether used
Two Hi-ethers used

Two Hi-ethers unused, resold on AH.
One remedy unused, resold to an NPC for 3200 gil. I bought the remedy in case I got paralyzed by his Ice Spikes, since he's a BLM... but apparently he never cast Ice Spikes. :o

Help from other people: Cyferis 50RNG/25NIN, but only to prevent the other orcs in the area from linking and interfering with my duel. ^^

Fight details: I buffed myself with Protect III, Shell II, Blink, Stoneskin, Aquaveil, ate my Tavnazian Salad, buffed myself with Refresh, then rested to full MP. Cast Haste, Enblizzard, Phalanx, Ice Spikes, then opened up on Purpleflash Brukdok with Slow. Then proceeded to Blind, Burn, Shock, Bio II, Poison II, Gravity, Fire II (only nuked that once, and even that was probably more nuking than I should have done), refreshed Refresh, and I think this is when I drank the Persikos. Tried to Silence him two or three times near the start, resisted each time. I recast my other enfeebles when they wore off, as well as putting Haste/Enbliz/Phalanx/IceSpikes back on, which wore off about three or four times during the course of the battle (that orc has a ton of HP). When my MP got low I tried to Elem Seal Sleep II him, and I realized the poison and bio I had on him might have been a bad thing... but the Sleep II just Missed him anyway, so I guess it didn't matter. I put Stoneskin on then Converted and healed myself back up. This was when he had.. maybe 60% of his HP remaining. But then I realized I'd been completely forgetting to use Aspir and Drain. So I started using those, which helped immensely. When he wasn't missing me, or being paralyzed by my ice spikes, he would occasionally hit me for 0 damage. His nuking was the dangerous part, when I failed to resist. Kept on fighting him and curing myself occasionally, using the Super-ether and two Hi-ethers to recover some MP, and finished him with a ranged attack (only ranged attack I used during the fight, I think) when Convert had about two minutes left before I could use it again. All in all, the fight probably lasted 12-15 minutes.

Chainspell Aspir probably would have worked wonders, but I never used Chainspell at all. ^^ /hurray :D

i found him unclaimed so i was bored and decided to fight it. i got some links but ran into the river- lost them- then kited him around with free carbuncle. i took a chance at 2 double slaps(~500dmg each, 96MP each.) and each one took off less than 5% hp. this guy has a ton. so after that i just kited him up and down the river killing him slowly.took about a half hour >.< maybe i'll lv my rdm and not ;et this key go to watse o.O

First time I fought him I was 60RDM, I thought i'd have trouble with him

He was a pushover, he just has a lot of HP. ALOT. I got 300%TP, hit him with 460 damage, didn't even bring his life bar to 9/10. I'd say he at least has 6kHP or so.

THere is no ??? it is on 15min spawn or so. Anyway a 58rdm/27smn dang smn gimp could practicacly solo this. I did this in a good 20min He was hard except i doubt anyone could silence this guy if u say you can thats a load of bull. He spells rarely stick and is easiest if ur a rdm even if u have a 41rdm help His manafont is actually like a chainspell and make sure you clear the area before the fight or have sleep2 ready It is really hard if you get a link but I won luckily Id say he has like 5000 hp but im probably wrong because i usually am about those guesses And one last tip sleepign him DOESNT work and dont try killing this guy unless you are over level 60ish unless ur rdm with some help
