I was running from Dem after getting a port from a WHM in Jeuno. I (a WHM30/DRK15 at the time) was running to Valkrum to camp dead people. A THF in full AF runs by with this bugger behind him. The THF has about 1/2 of his HP missing, and the Ram has about 1/10 of it's HP left. I (being the nice person I am) Pull it off of him with Banish, it doesn't care, it just stops, along with the THF. I whack it with my Elm Staff..

10 Damage

...O...k...then..
Reeve starts casting Banish on the Rampaging Ram

23 Damage

/em grins roughisly at the Rampaging Ram.

Reeve starts casting Banish II on the Rampaging Ram

41 Damage

Reeve scores a critical hit!
The Rampaging Ram takes 24 points of damage.
Reeve Defeats the Rampaging Ram.
Reeve gains 24 expeirence points.
Reeve obtains a Ram Horn
Reeve obtains a Ram Horn
Reeve obtains a Ram Skin
Reeve obtains a Ram Skin
Reeve obtains a Ram Skin
Reeve obtains a Rampaging Ram Horn

The THF bowed to me and moved on his merry way.
<Reeve> Hey Riskbreakers, I killed the Rampaging Ram.
<Sarys> WHAT?!
<Orgun> ?!
<Yulisia> -_-

End Luck

This thing isn't too bad at lvl 40. killed it with my lvl 40 mnk, and used my 2hr to make it go by quicker.

My RDM45/RNG22 friend and myself WHM45/THF15 often farm Tremor Rams in Konschtat for horns and skins, and I had never once seen Rampaging Ram. Tonight, however, we caught him on wide scan at the dot at H-8. I solo'd him while the red mage went off searching for more things to kill. Easy kill for me, just using my hammer. Petribreath is always resisted at our level. Got the Rampaging Ram Horn, which I needed, but wasn't farming for. Then went off to kill Mary and Percival in the next 30 minutes. ^^ -End Brag-

I solo'd Rampaging Ram as a lvl 32mnk/thf. It was ROUGH!!! I used a meat mithkabob, several boosts, dodge, focus, and selbina milk, and 100 fists. I was damn lucky, cause he never did Great Bleat or Petribreath on me. When the fight was over, he was dead and I had 51 hp left. Won't be trying this again for quite a while.

I had just gotten on a choco and was heading home to San D when I ride about 10 steps and there he is, NW of the crag.

I totally destroyed it as a 50MNK/16THF. It hit me four times (about 40 damage each) with my eva+ gear and dodge on and missed it's Great Bleat. Dropped 4 skins, 1 normal horn and 1 rampaging horn. edit: btw, it was not lightning storm weather.

Then I get back on another choco. And by the zone is a Tremor, chasing a guy who zones. So I get off and kill that one and get four more ram skins. Heh.

I'm sure this isn't the first post like this but.... I was camping Mary/rams a couple days ago, mostly just scanning for Mary and the occasional Tremor that would show up on widescan. I go afk for about 10 seconds w/ map up and autorun on and I come back to find myself almost to the Valkrum entrance. I turn myself around and widescan...nothing. I go on ahead and just as I was about to turn widescan on again, I see a Tremor Ram in the distance. So w/o widescanning, I hit Flee and went for him.

I didn't see anyone around him so I took my time and used sneak attack. I enguage it and get up to get a coke. I come back only to find that I (a level 40thf/01rng) am on the losing end of the battle. Examining it more closely I found I am indeed fighting the Rampaging ram. I freak out and tell my LS about how I am about to die when luckily a lvl 27 JP rdm came along and casted a few Cure II's on me. I ended up winning the battle w/ a little over 100 hp's left from my origninal 618. Gave the rdm 2 ram horns and 2 lightning clusters for a job well done. ^^

So, for my 2 cents, if you are 40 or below and have a sucky sub like I did...dont risk it unless you have someone to help...w/ petrification and the ocassional 60+ hits, he poses quite a challenge.

For the record, Rampaging Ram cannot be found in Le Theine. Those who have posted in this thread referring to Rampaging Ram in Le Theine are mistaken.

Also for the record, my experience tonight with the real Rampaging Ram in Konschtat Highlands leads to the following conclusions:

1) It has over 2000 hitpoints (I did just over 2100 damage when it finally died)
2) You have a very limitted amount of time in which to deal that 2000+ points of damage before it ruins your day with Great Bleat and/or petrification
3) If you don't feel confident in your ability to deal 2000+ points of damage in a realively short period of time, stay Far, FAR away.

Rampy Ram's a tough one.... I ran into him as 35 DRG/5 RNG (farming sheep, don't make fun of my sub ;_;). I figured I might as well take him on. I didn't have my wyvern out, but he took me out pretty easily; I lopped off maybe a quarter of his HP, and he didn't even use any special attacks.

So, yeah. If you're under level 40, don't solo him.

i spotted this using widescan (sucked that my bst sub was only lvl 1) while using lvl 30 war as main with best possible equipment, protect 2, and shell. I was in a pt with two lvl 40+ camping rampaging rams and stray mary - both for quest related items.

I got it and used 2hr and sturmwind with 300% right away - it responded with max hp down, pertification, and its own mighty strikes and i was dead. the rest of the pt had to clean up a sheep train that they started, raised me, and it was on for rampaging ram round 2. I took enough out of it in the inital fight that the second stab at it the only thing it did was max hp down on the whm. i held back on this one due to raise weakness. it dropped that rampaging horn that i needed, plus several ram skins.

edit: this picture has been updated, now shows me soloing him at lvl 36, i killed him with about 40% hp left

I'm almost certain Tremor Rams are the placeholder for the Rampaging Ram - kill Tremor Rams when they appear and sooner or later the Rampaging Ram will spawn in the area above, in place of one of the Tremors.

(not 100%, but I Japanese friend told me and he's usually right about these kind of things ^.^)

Most of these guys only appear in Thunder storms.
Be wary of fighting one solo without earth resists. They have a "petrify" ability which can pretty much do you in, but also a bleat that gives the same effect as "weakened" as if just raised. Basically lower max HP by about 1/4.
I think it is the NM that have these abilities.
Happy Ram hunting!!

Bleat can also be used by the normal tremor rams. A tremor ram I was fighting used bleat on me, and though it "missed" me, it affected all the low lvl by-standers that were watching the fight.

I just got done killing this thing. To give you an idea as to what your up against, here is some information from my fight: (Rampaging Ram) HP:2000
Hits for an average of 35-40 (on a 44 hume blm with mostly up to date armor) This thing also has no problem using back to back special attacks
Hope this helps =)

Rampaging ram a nm??
# Feb 11 2004 at 10:29 AM Rating: Default
Is this really a nm? I fought a rampaging ram in La Thiene thinking it was a nm, and died before my ls friend in the area could help, only because he killed *another* rampaging ram that was close by thinking it was the one I was fighting o_O. After I was revived and proceeded to leave La Theine I see Lumbering Lambert being nuked by a blm in af. Was this just a crazy nm spawning epxerience or is rampaging ram really a nm?

Just wondering...any input...could a party of four-five level 20's take out Rampaging Ram?
say, a monk, warrior, thief and 2 whms/blm?

Last night I fought this beefed up Ram and lost, only by a hair. Couldn't believe it. I know there was a whm and a warrior watching me, the whm could have healed me, but no, they just watched me die so they could take it out with one hit. That is just rude. Dam death watchers, is it so wrong to help someone once in a while?

Bottom line: If you or your pt can't handle it alone, don't engage.

As someone who will have to rely on several NM's to get my gear, people there for the money or the heck of it can just step off. It is difficult enough to get these NM's. You are doing me no favors by getting something I need and then selling it to me for an exorbinant price or to kill it for the thrill. Expect no help from me either.

Psst.....call for help if you're about to die and some people are just sitting there watching, that way they don't get anything out of it even if they do kill it.

they probably needed the horn if you had just disengaged they probably would have helped you

no i think the whm should have thrown a cure to you, that is rude why do people have to be like that i hate fighting things then people start to watch and blame i am dead and they kill it in one hit :( ohwell i guess not everyone is nice.

# Feb 24 2004 at 12:17 PM Rating: Default
If u can't take it, don't fight it.

U aren't the only who needs the quest horn. If u want to say that way, I'm a death watcher.

If i'm camping a Valkurm Emperor and a lv.30 war voke it, why the hell i'll help him??? I want the hairpin that costs 250k at my server. I waited till i reach lv.42 to camp it, and will I help some1 that is lv.30 to get the hairpin? Hell no.

I prefer see him die OR disengage then get the NM for me. If he types /h, i'll not help him too.

Hunting NM is a competition among the players, just go for it if u r capable of finishing the job. That's my opinion.

I agree, I would not help someone out w/ fighting an NM. It is a rare chance to fight an NM, just for a chance to get a drop that many people want. High lvl people for the most part understand this. When engaged in an NM fight, they do not expect help & do not call for help (doing so will nullify any chance of a drop). Even if you call for help, I'd wait for you to die. Then I'd finish it off, so I'd have a chance at the drop, and I'd expect the same from others. I am more than happy to help others when it's a normal fight against non-NM mobs. I throw protect & cure to help the guy out, but not on an NM.
RE: Death Watchers
# May 02 2004 at 2:13 PM Rating: Decent
Too bad that when they call for help, it makes it so that the NM won't give exp AND any drops. So go ahead and watch him die, then kill the NM. And get nothing. Enjoy your extra 3+ hours hunting the thing again with 1 person and maybe his entire LS hating/blisting you.

Wrong. If you wait for the /help status to leave the NM, it will drop. Its name will change from orange back to white about 20 seconds after the death of the person who /help'ed.

OK look, as far as i know there are 4 NM rams in the Highlands, and no, tremor rams are not NM's, theres Rampaging Ram, Lumbering Lambert, Steelfleece Baldrich and Bloodtear something-or-another lol...Anyways, its @$#!ing impossible 2 solo ne of them under 30

Rampaging Ram and Steelfleece are in the Highlands, Lumbering Lambert and Bloodtear in in LaThiene. Lumbert and Rampaging Ram can both be safely solo'd at about lvl 40.

Just for reference, here is my experience with this thing. Note btw that we are talking about the "Rampaging Ram," one of 2 NM Rams in Konschtat (Steelfleece, a very high level NM is the other). The first time I encountered him, I was lvl 29/12 mnk/war. Ended up losing the fight because the ram petrified me for the last 30 seconds of the fight. The second time I was 32/16 mnk/war, and, using mithkabob and Hundred Fists, ended up with around 200HP left at the end. Seems the fight is variably hard to solo, depending on class.

Btw the horn it drops is Rare/Ex, and is used only for the Purple Belt quest in Bastok. The ram also drops random numbers of horns and skins.
CMON! USE THOSE NOGINS!

TREMOR RAM, not so strong. RAMPAGING RAM, very strong. It's not that complicated, so stop getting them mixed up!

A 29 RDM can not take a steelfleece. My lvl 50 Mnk friend, with 1150 HP, died in less than 2 minutes along with me, a lvl 50 whm/21blm, cure 4ing him. BTW, we were fighting next to a dead lvl 63 war. ;_; i didnt want to fight it.

Ran int one of these yesterday, remember on this post that it was only 25-28 lvl. Boy was i wrong. Fouhgt him with 400 hp, thought it would be a cake walk. Well i had to use my 2hr, barrage, WS and at the end i had 4hp left. Had 40 hp when i 2hr him. he constant hit for 30-40.
