I've been camping tremor rams to lotto spawn Rampaging Ram in Kon highlands... for 7 hours. Not my lucky day I guess, WHM61/RNG sub for widescan. Killing every tremor ram I see and following the spawn area... but man, this thing pops less often than Lambert did lol. Any tips? :)

Beat this yesterday as 40MNK/10RNG (for Widescan). Took me about 1-1/2 hours to get it to spawn after killing 5 rams.

I got the claim, used Focus and Dodge at the start and wailed on him for about 30 seconds, it was fairly even (had no food and was using my lvl 32 knucks) so my damage output isn't as good as it should be. I slapped on hundred fists and he went down within a minute. He used rampage on me and that was it. I finished up with ~470hp/790 and the rampaging horn.

Was made easier at the time cause I was the only one in the spawn areas.

About 3 months ago i killed Lumbering Lambart becuz i thought he actually had a good drop. SO then i found out, that i needed to get the rampaging horn, so i just tossed it in my mog and thought no more of it. Me and my friend camped Stray mary last night, i saw a tremor on my widescan, thought, wth. So i run and grab it..and decide to joke around and have it chase me everywhere. while its chasing me, i see rampagin ram on my wde scan, Run my butt over to it, from like halfway across te highlands, WITH a tremor following me. then i start to beat it and sum guy camping it for 3 hours took my treor ram =/...but oh well. got the drop(i think its 100%) and now i am on my road to getting brow belt =)

I just beat him as level 45 taru THF, was looking a little grim at first though, but after i ate my meat, i slowly regained the lead on him, even though cyclone didn't seem to have any major effect, when he used great bleat, i resisted, while a level 53 PLD next to me got hit by it, dunno if my almighty 8 earth resistance from my dual stamina rings has anything to do with it...^^ i won the battle with 212 HP left with perfect dodge used during it(activated at the same time it used great bleat).

Tarutaru, Level 45THF/22RNG, +5 STR(3 from mutton), +4 DEX, +7 VIT, +1 AGI, +10 evasion, +21 attack(before food), and +30 HP(and +1%HP=5HP) from equipment.

I didn't check on his level though, could've walked in front of him to see if he'd aggro me, but since i had waited 10 hours for him to pop, and needed the first SA, i didn't feel like it...^^

Camped it for about 3 hours to get the Purple Belt item... Steelfleece popped first. I actually knew Steelfleece's time of death since it killed me yesterday <_< And then ended up camping Rampaging at the same time.

So following the rumors I heard, I waited a bit longer, and sure enough, Rampaging spawned 30 mins after Steelfleece. Got it, killed it, got the drop.

And like someone else said, negotiate with other farmers. Most people will just be farming for Ram Horns, and don't even know what the Rampaging Horn is for. Tell them you need it for a quest, and they'll probably let you have it.

Also, if you see a bunch of highh levels around there, Steelfleece is probably due. He also drops the Rampaging Horn, and chances are, these high levels won't really care much about it. So talk to them, tell them you're after Rampaging.. so then they'll probably tell you if it spawns, and they might let you have the Horn if it drops from Steelfleece.

I killed the rampaging ram with my jobs rdm41/rng4. I ate a boild cockatrice (against petrify) and made chainspelll. The fight ended with hp 215 vs. 0. Lambert i have never seen on plateau, but he is also level 27. And i heard all that trouble are for 8k, in any case it were NMs.

Brown Belt is selling for ~1 million gil on Bismark server so I thought I'd quest it, meaning I would have to complete Purple Belt quest 1st.

Took my RDM50/RNG5 out to the Highlands and started spamming wide scan =/ A couple of high lvl RNGs and THFs were camping him as well, so I had no expectations of actually claiming him. Amazingly enough I killed most the Tremor Rams that spawned, and after about 1 hour of doing so Rampaging Ram popped. He spawned pretty close to another RDM (who was in full AF), but I guess he was just out of sight. I waltzed right up to the the blasted Ram, casted Dia, and proceeded to hack away his HP. Killed him, got the horn, and headed out to the Plateau for Lumbering Lambert. Then, after seeing a lvl 73 SMN solo Bloodtear, Lambert spawns after ~30 minutes of camping. Got the claim, got the horn, finished the quest.

Now I have to camp the Brown Belt NMs ;.;

I'm not sure if the horns are a 100% drop, but I would much rather have RNG subbed instead of THF 'cause without it I feel like I'm running in the dark >< g'luck and happy camping ^^

# May 13 2005 at 8:48 AM Rating: Decent
you could also sub bst for the widescan and use charm for the claim. You cannot charm NMs so it's a quick pull.

Drops *are* 100% for the mobs for purple belt quest. Thf class is if you want to "flee" to your target to "steal" it from opponents. But if you are alone camping the rams, there is no reason for you to have thf if it's not your main and not your good class.

Alright, for those who thinks this is an easy NM to camp, it is. Only problem : It takes a long time if you're not lucky. The rams pops every 4 hours (game time). On those rams there is a lotery for the Rampaging ram. No need to say it takes quite a few if it's not a lucky day.

Just camped that NM for almost 7 hours straight and finally got him (almost didn't cause of a redmage who wanted to kill an nm).

To camp this NM you need :
-Good diplomacy skills; there WILL be farmers after them, so deal your way around it to get the NM kill.
-Ranger; no ranger = you running around and missing all pops.
-A thf for flee and steal if you failed your diplomacy. Farmers are really quick on those, you need to be quicker.
-And lastly, an excelent timing with the respawns. 4hours (game) between when he dissapears when dead and when he comes back up.

If you don't have all of this, do something else you will lose your time. Same strategy goes for LL.

PS: Be prepaired for nasty tricks from the Rampaging Ram, he does petrifie and a health down curse. If he does both you are as good as dead. Its always good to have a backup helper just in case "the worst happens".

edit: precision about the respawn timer

#REDACTED, Posted: May 09 2005 at 1:56 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) lol hes not 4 hour respawn i killed him on my lvl 37NIN/18rng (please dont jump to conclusions about killing him - hes got 2000 hp - even with eva +23 and Utsusemi: Ni i almost died because of great bleat) and he poped in about an hour hes lottrey pop of tremor rams
RE: wow...
# May 13 2005 at 8:22 AM Rating: Decent
Learn to read : 4 hours game time (about 10 minutes real life) for a tremor to spawn from the time he dissapears when you killed him. No more, no less.

It's possible for a RNG to solo this NM as low as 31 with little risk to their own well being. With a NIN sub, a good crossbow, and Sleep Bolts you can kill it quite easily, though it'll be a long fight and take you 20-50 sleep bolts. Just keep pelting him with sleep bolts. If you're feeling risque, cast Utsusemi, switch to Holy Bolts and Barrage him, then switch back to Sleep bolts before he goes through your shadows.

The strategy worked beautifully on Lumbering Lambert. Without Sleep Bolts, he'll surely kill the RNG aspiring to kill him. Tried twice the conventional method - first time took a nap, second time I Shadowstiched him and ran out until he lost aggro, then attempted the Sleep Bolt route once he had regained ALL his HP and extracted revenge for my earlier nap.

Hi, just wanted to post my info to help other monks. hunted Rampaging for about 2 hours, he spawned, no one touched him, i claimed with chi-blast, used focus and dodge, started beating on him, used Raging Fists, then chakra at about 700/944 hp, used Raging Fists again, Rampaging Ram = dead, i had more then half hp left.....:D

im 41 monk btw, had level 1 ranger subbed at the time, for widescan....

hope this cleanses the fear from some monks who think they should be higher level. no need at all, and no need for 2 hour either....

i say you need to be lvl 36 min to safely kill it solo as these jobs:
war/monk/sum/nin/ran/drk/pal/drg

he hits pretty hard and would rip through any of the other jobs i wouldnt want to try my white mage against him..the only thing is he misses alot

A judging rule to use when hunting NM's: Add +5 to their level, and make sure your 3 levels above that just to be safe.

This NM does not spawn in La Theine Plateau, the NM you're thinking of in La Theine is Lumbering Lambert. Do not get these two confused b/c in order to complete the Purple Belt quest, you must defeat and obtain both NM's horns. Lumbering Horn from Lumbering Lambert (La Theine Plateau) and Rampaging Horn from Rampaging Ram (Konschtat Highlands). Though it is a common mistake, try not to get them confused for this reason. ^^

Came across him while camping Stray Mary today. Wasn't expecting to see him, and didn't know what his level was, but as I had my NIN 2 hour available, I figured it was worth a shot.

I hit him with Kurayami to blind and pull him, then Hojo to slow. Then used Retsu to paralyze him. After that it was a cakewalk, though not a fast cakewalk. He just couldn't hit me. I had to recast Utsusemi once. In all, I lost 6 shadows. The fight went on long enough that I was able to get 100% TP again and fire off another WS.

At first I was concerned, because my first round of hits didn't seem to do any damage to him. But after a couple rounds I saw his HP was slowly but steadily dropping and realized that he just could not hit me.

I can't remember all that he dropped, but one of the items was the Rampaging Horn. Now I just need to find Lumbering Lambert again (only time I've come across him was as a 12 BST...)

they have an invisible 10 levels.

so it drops the xp of an even at 27/28 but it fights as if it were 37/38.

This would check for you as a decent challenge. as it is a notorious mobster, and the fact its a ram all together. its gonna be a little hard. try at 35ish.

you're 2-3 levels above it and a level 30 can barely, if he is lucky, take an even match. most likely some enfeebling red mage will do that..
