Vana'diel Bestiary: Spiny Spipi  

first time camping a NM today was out there for about an hour with my Taru THF/RNG lol... any way i saw him/her/it on Widescan ran over with weapon out and 2 guys attack it just as im about to swing at him... im like NOOOOOO... but then /check them both.. LVL7 DRG and a LVL8 MNK with no sub... im like die die die.. and they did HAHAHA.. and way i go behing id wait for last person to die and BAM!!!! Sneak Attack.. and then BAM.. Burning Blade.. thank you very much... 30K in my pocket..

I decided to kill him yesterday, and my advice is:

1st - Get a friend
2nd - make a small pty of 2
3rd - keep walking and killing crawlers in one side of the rock ledge while your friend is doing the same in the other side
4th - split the profit

Got him 3 times yesterday (4 hour camping), and in the end of the hunt, both of us had a new cape....

Despite what some have said, i've seen her spawn all over that oval. I've got her 6 times total, all in spawned in different places. The last 3 times i used 15 THF/RNG and got drops 2/3. I highly recommend widescan. I got her two times in a row with other campers who apparently didn't, because they were A LOT closer to her than me and I just ran right by them, ranged attack, BAM mist silk cape :)!

Well I've fought her twice (I dunno, always thought of this as a female) with no drop except 2 silk every time. Both times she popped in the exact same spot : right on the river on the south side, between the two trees in the little outcropping on the map. I rarely see anyone camping her on Odin, of course maybe because I don't all that often. Cape is about 26k there ... gonna keep trying.

ok i have been camping this guy for a while and i have noticed a few little things he does. first off he spawns every 1-2 hours and there are 3 major points all the way down the river, where the river comes into open land and near the road towards the tower. ussually he is uncamped on alexander when i "camp" him i do more farming than camping farm silks(10K per stack) remi shells (5k per stack) and beehive chips(4k per stack) this way i never go empty handed so far he has droped the camp for me 75% of the time but i also have TH1 good luck to you he is usually very easy and not a very big spawning area i never even use widescan but i guess it could help

so far i am also 1/2 lizzy 3/9 spook 15/21 spiny spipi 0/1 valk. emp and 0/19 jaggedy eared jack

Both times I have defeated him he has spawned in the exact same location: on the river at J-6. No drop either time.

I'm not much of a fighter as a Whm but I soloed him both times with Banish II and Fire.

I'm such a bully...

Sorry to hear you guys having trouble with it... I camped that little crawler when I was low level and didn't even see him once... when I returned to lvl my BLM sub, I hunted him with a friend but still no Spiny Spipi... I just camped that NM 4 days total and I saw him only once but he was already engaged in combat with a lvl 38 guy... I was pissed off... so I left and decided to lvl BLM in bastok...

On my way back from Valkurm Dunes (BLM20/RDM10), I decided to check if he was there (no intention to camp him) and there he was... alone near the route... casted a Dia spell to get him aggro quickly... that was a real fantasy coming true! The NM was MINE! LOL.. another guy stopped and said ''I was camping it for an hour!!!'' and he stayed to watch me kill it.

I was rude with that guy... I decided to enjoy the moment and to kill Spiny Spipi slowly (using only my staff...lol).. the guy was still standing there waiting and I was hitting the crawler 20dmg while Spiny hitted 3-4dmg (with no protect on)...

After 4 mins, he finally died and dropped 2 silk threads and the Mist Silk Cape... that was my first ''real'' NM drop of the game...
Hapenned yesterday so it was easy to remember! ;)

I ran into Spipy once by accident. I was level 6 whm, with my other character Mobius. I didn't even know what he was, but figured "what could happen?" After the first hit, I started to run like hell.....he tracked me down and owned me. I told a LS member what happened, so she ran outta the ruins there at the far east, and came over to raise me. Nobody claimed Spipy, and ppl were coming. She killed it with a few doses of Fire and Lightning I believe, and got the drop. She ended up giving me 10k for a finders fee. I'm not complaining lol. I now hunt this thing whenever I'm back home in Saruta...no luck yet.

Me and a friend from LS (he was THF15, I was WHM30) were camping for Spini, we ran around for 3 RL hours and didn't even see him. We saw a few high levels but they said they weren't there for Spini. So we gave up.
Today, I'm trying to hunt Spini with my THF18/MNK7 and I still see no sign of him. How many times do I have to camp just to catch a glipse of him? >_< I've never seen/faught any NMs before, I'm hoping I'll get Spini though.

Ok let me clear up a few things for you guys. Spiny spawns on almost an 80 minute timer, sometimes she'll skip a spawn and you'll be sitting there for quite some time. Having widescan is almost a must with this NM because the spawn area is huge. I have gotten her 28 times and have gotten the drop 18, much more sucess after treasure hunter with my lvl 18 thf. Spiny can spawn at any time of day. The most prolific spawn area seems to be the area right next to the river with the little jaggedy rocks sticking up in the air. She has spawned there quite a bit, as well as all the way at the bottom of the river, and on the opposite side of the huge rock wall. There are 8 spawn spots that I have counted, and I have not seen her spawn in any different areas than these. Spiny has single handedly funded my Ranger/Ninja combo from lvls 1-30, and now i must say that a 30k drop simply won't do it for me any more. The plan is to lvl up my thf to 25 for flee, camp lizzy again 2/5 on her, and make a bit more money. At lvl 35 i can take down the emperor, but with such a large spawn area it would be hard to get it w/out flee, so I have quite a bit of time before i can camp with flee as a ranger/thf. Also I am 1/3 on jack, the rabbit everyone loves to hate, so i'm going to camp him a bit more. To all of you guys only hunting for money, you should find another way to make it. I hunt for the thrill of the hunt and if i get the drop, then yay, but if not, i am satisfied knowing that i have just tracked down a rare monster and killed his ***. I was so lucky when I first got him.
I've heard of him, so I was hunting in the area where he spawns, but of course, like all notorious monsters, I never found him.
So i ran down the river hunting for bees when I saw a guy fighting 2 crawlers, I thought he might need help.
But he died before I could provoke, and then I saw he was fighting spipi... poor lvl 7 guy..
I killed Spipi and the other crawler, he dropped:
-Mist Silk MCape
-Silk thread
-Silk thread

Ich was like wow.. ^^ never had luck with NM, (I'm from Sandoria), but as I went to Windy for Bonecraft I fell over them ^^

And I got two silk threads. I'm still there, hoping to get a cape this time around.
