Vana'diel Bestiary: Spiny Spipi  

I've fond that he pops on the far east side of the jut on the south side of the river (north edge of pop zone on map above) and he pop only after a certain number of crawlers have been killed in the zone

i was really low on gil (541) >.< so i decided to camp this knowing that it drops a 30k+ item. so im campin it as lvl 15 blm and a lvl 35 war comes up and offers to help me. so we're waitin around for spipi and i hadnt even killed any crawlers when about 10 minutes later it spawned right in front of me. (/cheer) we kill it (no problem with a lvl 35 war) and get the drop! i was so stoked! i emptied like 5 things from my inventory lol and got the cape and 2 silk threads. ^^ so far ive only seen this bugger once and got it and only other NM was bubbly bernie. i sold the cape for 40k at AH (windy, midgardsormr)for i have no use for it as a blm.


i heard its about 3.2 to 4 hours depending on how often u kill the crawlers. (it spawns randomly in place of one) but u have to keep patrolling the zone seeing as its a wide spawn area.

Aside from Bernie, this was my first ever NM ecounter, and a complete accident x.X. I'd been farming silk as lvl 21thf around all of East Sarabaruta. I finished up one of the little creepy crawlies and spotted that familiar flash of yellow further up, so I'm off. I run up to the thing and hit it, and for about twenty seconds I'm wondering why it's HP is dropping so slowly... then I bother to check it and find out it's an NM. Finished him off without a problem (and forgot to snap a picture ><) but nothing to show for it but another spool of silk for the stack. Oh well.

I've killed her twice before, once while I was leveling DRK in that area(I had a buddy fishing nearby amd came to help), and once I camped her. Each time, no drop. The otehr day I was on teh way back from Buburimu with a brand new Carbuncles Ruby in my hand, when I stumble across her just sitting there. Seven second later, I am the prud owner of a new Mist Silk Cape.

So, now I'm 1/3.

K sooo ive never seen this thing and i was woundering if you could tell me what the spawn rate is?

I'm an elvaan SMN/WHM really mad at this bloated caterpillar...(Along with every other NM I've killed) Every time I intended to kill him, I have by sneaking SMN/BST under anon. Anyways, i'm 0/16 with him, 0/8 with Hoo Mjuu the Torrent, and 0/2 with Leaping Lizzy. Any THFs out there have good experience with Treasure Hunter ect.? I keep going into shock from being lucky enough to get to it, then missing its better drop.

I have looked for 7 hours straightand still never found one can any one help me? -Zomega

I was bored out of my skull this morning killing goblins and crawlers. Knowing that this NM spawned near the tower but not so close to it. I was kind of eager to see if I could get it to spawn so I started paying close attention to the area as I killed only 1 crawler and turned around. My heart almost jumped because it was Spiny! And no one was around, not a soul. But then came Some taru on a chocobo. I was hoping to god that he wouldn't get off the chocobo. and he didn't! Spiny was all mine. The fight was nothing, lvl 18rdm. Too bad I didn't get it's drop. But I think I will be paying a visit to this area more often ;).
Right now I remain 0/1 Spiny ; ;

Night before last, a friend of mine and I went looking for Spipi; I'm a RDM and I wanted the cape, but didn't wanna fork out 40K for it. Anyway, after about two hours, we found him, and proceded to take his cape from his sorry butt.

Well, last night, him and I went out again, trying to get the cape for a friend of mine; thought it'd be a nice gift. Well, after about a half-hour, somebody else finds him and gets the claim. So we keep looking. 3_1/2 hours later, we finally give up. After they took Spipi, the crawlers just seemed to not wanna spawn. It took forever for most of them to spawn, and we never saw/heard of Spipi. Does anybody know the respawn on him?

I have found that if you run betewwn the rocks across the street form the tower and the river bank you will usually find Spiny. Just hope you don't have other people looking for it........(got the cape 2nd time fighting but waited 6 hours)
By the way the only reasons to fight a NM imo, are because you need the drop (i'm a whm most of the time) or the excitment of the fight. NOT because you are a 30War that wants a quick 40k!!!

i swear that the whole nm thing has gotten out of control. camping, arguing, ******** each other over. tell ya what you keep fighting over em'. ill keep having fun.

Decided to level my WHM so I got it to 18 and said hey I need that cape. Saw it for 50k said I might as well go camp the NM. Airship to Jeuno, then to Windurst, choco to Spipi spawn, wait 10 minutes running back and forth, it spawns with no one around and I provoke it and kill it and whaddya know I got the drop and went home happy.

I first took a chocobo out and rode around while establishing markers on my map for every general location that I saw a crawler (ended up with 6 markers). Afterwards trained for what seemed like 2hrs, looking for silk mostly, always heading to the 2 big double trees over in J-6 for some reason. Well, I'm so glad I did because at approx. 2:30ish AM CST I spotted spipi there at the 2 trees with another crawler. Killed it and got the cape on first drop. So happy that I didn't spend 30 or 50k on it (Windy/Jeuno AH price) :)
