This is a great NM to camp if you're a chip-farmer like me.

Not very many people camp Sophie, so competition isn't a worry. Also, you can farm bees while you wait for her to pop. So even if Sophie doesn't give you the drop, you still make a lot of money. To me, Sophie isn't the "aim" when you camp her. The goal is to make money on chips and such. The Beestinger just makes a really nice bonus to shoot for. Even without the bonus, you're still a winner.

NM hunting has never been less stressful.

To the person who said SE nerfed the beechip drop rate, you're wrong. I've been playing since early last summer, and the drop has pretty much stayed constant the whole time.

I highly recommend this NM for lowbie players to get their feet wet. The drop is only worth about 8k, don't get too excited, but it's still a fun NM, first one I ever killed.

Oh, and I'm actually 3/3 on Beestingers if I remember right, so it doesn't seem to be an uncommon drop.

stinging sophie has at most 482 HP, by the way.

i was a 23thf/war when i first found her. killed it, and got the drop the first time. about 10 minutes later, i saw her again! but i still had the beestigner on me, so it would be a pointless fight, since the 'stinger is RARE.

EDIT: oh ya, i should say that THE SOPHIE I FOUGHT had at most that much HP, i guess it can vary somewhat

very nice!

rate up.

I never thought to check the HP of a particular mob. Must also remember that this mob is about two level ranges, from 9-10.
I have fought it many times, and sometimes it's longer than others, not sure why. This is all with my lvl 25 THF

My message of advice to hunt this NM:
Have a lot of space in your inventory, and hunt on the second and third levels of the mountain.
You will get SO many beehive chips, that easily sell for about 7-8K per stack on Fairy. You can also then get a lot of giant stingers from the bees on the third level.

While this spawn time is random, you need to keep killing the bees on the second level to get her to spawn. I have gotten her sometimes once right after another (within 10 min), and other times, have not seen her for five in game days!

I have seen her at night, even when the bats are out. I have mostly seen her appear right after the bats dissapear in the morning, since this is the best time to have a lot of bees spawn, getting a random Sophie.

Increasing the chance of the Beestinger drop? No idea, I'm a lvl 25 THF when I hunt her, and it's not even like every 3rd time. Stingy girl she is.

Ah, sophie, the first NM ive ever camped. I was really eager to start hunting NMs, so i thought i would start on the easy ones first. Went to camp her at lvl19(blm/whm).
As soon as i walked up the ramp to the 2nd level of the hill, there she was. I couldnt believe it, its was as if she was there waiting for me. I was low on mp, so i started to rest, and i hadnt seen anyone else so far so i thought i was ok. Wrong...after resting for 30 secs, someone comes around the corner and claims her. Bo****ks. Oh well, ill wait for her to spawn again. And she did, an hour later in real time. Got her, but no beestinger.
Later on, i came with a LS friend, so i had a good chance of claiming her, as there were at least 3 other people on the mountain camping her. After 1 hour and a half, she popped near the bottom of the ramp to the 3rd level, Killed her, and got the beestinger, my first worthwhile NM drop.
Bearing in mind, she did spawn between those time that i mentioned. Sometimes she spawned a mere 30 mins after killing her. So i think she spawns every 30 mins to every 1h30 mins.

this is a good NM to kill while farming beehive chips. i used to farm chips a lot when i was like lvl 15, and ive killed him a lot but no drop. the drop is very good for THFs also

i heard his pop time is every real life hour, but not 100% sure
got it tonight :D

I'm lvl 36 Thf/Nin, and i was doing some selling at Bastok Market AH, my friend /t me and told me they found Sophie, and need my help to kill it (they were lvling on the hill) so i ran as fast as i could from Port Bastok to the hill, and killed it, and i got the dagger :D
i passed the dagger to my friend, since i already have one for myself :D

********* SE must have ****** over the drop rate so bad, i just trained atleast 15 bees and got only a giant stingert and a pot of honey, 15 bees and 0 chips so whoever said u get 1-3 chips per bee is either wrong or lying

i am a lvl 30BLM subbing RNG for widescan (thf is only lvl 12 ><) and im farming these chips and waiting for this thing to spawn, and then selling the chips and hopefully the drop, then buying zinc ores for Norg fame, i did NIN quest last night and im trying to raise norg fame for tonko, utsusemi etc; is this a good idea or should i go back to farming zinc ores? the ores seem to have a worse drop rate but i dont have to wait for them to sell...any thoughts? Name is Cheddar, on Asura, gimme a /tell sometime if u got any zincs i can have :D

I went there to farm beehive chips and see if I could possibly get a drop from Sophie while I was at it. I had already farmed 2 full stacks of beehive chips when low and behold, I see her flying around. I immediately engage and get the beestinger on my first try. I saw her again today but no drop this time.

Just fought her for the second time and no drop but a behive chip.Currently a lvl.12 rdm and its a even match but can be done just watch for her final sting it will hit for more then 100(we kind of killed each other last time).
Personally never went l;ooking for her just farming the chips and bamb there she popped behind me.I guess i got lucky both times.

NO.
I love how you think you "killed each other". A bee's Final Sting is just like a Bomb's self-destruct move like in all FF's, it sacrifices all of its HP to inflict damage on you. In other words, SOPHIE killed you BOTH last time.

Sophie is an NM which means it will con as "Impossible to gauge" not "Even Match".

Thats not true. There are plenty of NMs that will gauge appropriatly, however they are usually tougher than what they gauge. Spini Spipi, for instance, registers "Too Weak" to me every time I face off with it.

The ones listed as 0-0 here on Alla usually are the ones that are "Impossible to Gauge".

Try it next time you go NM hunting ^^

Lucky? More like suffered lost EXP (~300) for a beehive chip and ~100 EXP the second time, which didn't make up for the death, of course because, in case you didn't know, 300>100.
I don't mean to be mean, just to put some rational thought into the mix.

yes the spawn time can be crucial sometimes. I recommend if you coem to hunt her, that you plan on farming Beehive chips. They sell for 5k a stack. It's worth it. If you plan to sell the Beestinger, it sells for like 7-10k, 2 stacks of chips will equal it. Beehive chips aren't even rare at all, almost every hornet will drop 1-3 chips. Once in a while you will run into it. ^^
0/1 on her. BTW, i was farming there for 4 hours at one time...came back to Jueno with 4 stack of beehive chips=40k:P

spent over 2 hours searching for sophie. couldnt find it at all. i killed every hornet as i walked back and forth on 2nd and 3rd lvl. no one on the hill except for me at the time. made me very sad. guess ill try again tomorrow nite. hopefully she'll be less shy and come out and play.

i am a huge beehive chip farmer and just a note to those who think they can just fight this:

lvl15 or less thf will get their a** kiked unless they use 2hr

even as my thf (now at 46) this is an annoying drop

its a long wait for something not really worth it

can take hours of bee killing to get her to spawn
i kno by myself it took me killing every bee i saw once for like 2 hours(this is very tedious unless u farm the chips)

and as far as my luck on this well ive killed her 33 times and gotten the drop ten times which is only about 1/3chance on average at lvl 45+

i do suggest taking her at 20+ tho as a thf cause she may be low lvl but ive seen too many people die at the hands of this NM (all 15 or lower)

I have go the Beestinger 4 times and all i do is farm beehive chips and she will pop...

the first 2 times i sold the Beestinger the price was only 5 to 6k at the time but the last few times it has gone to 9 to 12k...so i am off to hunt her once again

On Remora, its selling between 9k and 12k.

I got this today. Took about 30 minutes. Sophie spawned on 2nd level at bottom of ramp to third level.

Does it spawn on second or third floor?
RE: spawn point
# Nov 30 2004 at 11:36 PM Rating: Decent
She pops on the second floor. I've noticed that most of the time she pops in the mornign or right before night. Reason being is that alot of the bees do not spawn at night.. and its undead and bats. So when all of the bees start coming back shes in there somewhere. I have howver seen her pop at night.. But not very much. Hope this helped.

Well this was a 1 trip hunt jus for a quick beestinger for my thf. Since it pops often (less than every hr) me and my friend killed it a few times and managed to get the knife easily (1/3) while farming chips and honey. Maybe cause he was a thf, (TH1) who knows. Yes the circled spot is on the right track.

Man, Hunting this guy for his drop is totally worth it. If your leveling a class that can use this Dagger, it totally rocks. You can easily get two and a half attacks in to most creatures single attack....And I have never overstated a single thing in the entire history of the world.
