After spending an hour, I ran into twice. The first time I killed it, nothing. 10 min later, I ran into it again and got the beestringer. w00t! Now for Leaping Lizzy.
I tried my luck hunting this bee a few minutes ago. Tried it for an hour. No sign of her. There was 1 high lvl *** player there, with 3 low-mid lvl *** players. I probaly got a stack and half of beehive chips. I'll try again tommorrow (actually later today, lol)This will be my 1st NM hunt and I want this dagger, for my future ranger and/or ninja.
The first time I was on that hill I was doing this quest on which I needed to find the Palborough monument or something. Little did that know what a NM or Stinging Sophie was, while I was coming down the hill I saw her and said to myself: "Uh, let me get some easy exp." I was WAR 8. She hit me once and wtf; how can a bee hit so hard? I started running like there was no tomorrow, but got owned by the third hit. Oh well, I least I didn't have to run all the way back to Bastok.
I was camping lizzy, and was just after finding the boots, (go me! check out my post on lizzy) and I decided i wasn't ready to stop there! Oh no, I had to hunt the popular NM... Stinging Sophie!!! So I started climbing the hill, killing bee's on the way, getting my stacks of beehive chips, and on the 2nd last lvl of the mountain, near the ramp to the graveyard, I seen a bee, with title "Stinging Sophie" She was in a small patch of grass near some trees, I went over and killed her, and only got 3 beehive chips is all. Oh well, not much of a Drop regardless, the Beestinger and all, but still cool to fight NM's.
I can't find her. I have been on the mountain for like 2 hours now and havent seen her are there things I am missing like she only comes ou at night kind of thing?
I would have to say from exp. that Sophie is the easiest NM to find and get the drop. I have claimed her about 10 times and got the drop 6 of those times. I have to had a time where she spawned about 5-10 min after I had killed her once. She spawns the most out of all NM I have come to know. If you are looking for an easy 10k (Asura) this would be ur best ticket.
I too spend a frequent amount of time on this hill farming everything up there. Now this has only happened to me twice but I've seen Sophie pop twice within 5-7 minutes of her last spawn. Don't remember much about the first time it happened, just that I was very suprised to see her again so quickly. However just a few days ago I was up there, -ga farming everything, I turn a corner and see a Lvl 9 THF fighting her. The THF knows she's doomed and promptly gets killed so I nab her and take her down-beehive chip. No biggie I've gotten her quite a few times I probably stand at something like 9/16. I turn around and head up to the third level, kill the 5 bee's up there, come running down the ramp and there she is again. Claim her and get the drop. It was just that quick, however there have been times I'm up there by myself killing bees for 3 hours straight and don't see her once.
I was leveling my MNK when Sophie showed up on Carbuncle last night. A level 8 WAR/THF tried to take her and got promptly owned. I had used my 2HR previously and was cursing myself for not being up there farming with my 20 WAR when she spawned. I was about to /tell a few nearby guys and see if they wanted to gang up on her when a level 40 showed up and got her. Next time, I suppose.
I was on the Alexander server lastnight. I started hunting Lizzy first but in 2 hours I never saw even though I heard she was around and others had killed her. So I decided to hunt Sophie around 12am. Well as it got dark in the game I was ready to give up and started back towards the first floor. I got in a fight with a maneating hornet for beehive chips and I get ready to go when Sophie flies right in front of me. Well needless to say I crushed her with my 17war/8mnk but only got a beehive chip. I will hunt her again this weekend and trust me her and Lizzy will be mine.
well, I killer her 4 times the other night, (got the stinger, yay!) Every time she psawned, she spawned in the little grassy area right next to the ladder leading to the third level. I would go up to the third level and kill all the Hornets, come back down, and there she would bee(hehe). Only reason i was able to kill her was because I was on at 4 am... no one else was on the hill.
I found and killed Sophie for the first time today completely by accident! I was up on the hill raising my archery skill when I targeted what I thought was just a regular maneating hornet. It wasn't until it was actually right in front of me that I realized that it was Sophie. I was even lucky enough to get Beestinger as my drop.
For some reason, I always seem to stumble upon NMs when I'm not even looking for them.
I have camped her 4 times, mostly as drg/war (i dont trust my elvaan with a thf job), and i always wind up getting a beehive chip..soo i decided to lvl thf to 15 as a mithra, camped her, attacked her, got her to within one hit, i was low on life as well, and she uses sharp sting for 34 dmg and kills me..and this lvl 6 war walks up, smacks her twice, kills her, gets the drop..I have given up on this NM..maybe it's onto spipi or jack..
i farm chips too, they're a quick, reliable sell on my server and at 3000g a stack i'm able to make a stack every 20 minutes or so (not counting honey and other stacks).
2 things here:
(1) there are (at least) 2 ramps that go up zegham hill. each of them has a little cluster of trees at the base. just keep looking, you'll find them. the 2 i've used are on the southwest corner of the hill and on the north face of the hill.
(2) sophie DOES spawn on the 3rd floor. i hesitate to say this publicly, since few people seem to go up there and whenever i'm up there i seem to be left mostly alone. this morning i killed sophie for the first time and she was waiting for me on the third level. no drop, sigh. later today i saw a galka kill her in nearly the same spot, also on the third level.
but, by all means, please don't believe me and hang out on the 2nd floor. i don't know how often she spawns in either place, but the less company i have the better.
I tried this morning, for about 4 and a half hours.
She spawned the first time about 20 minutes after i got there, near the pathway up to the 3rd level, i got her, and drop was only a beehive chip.
Next spawn was 42 minutes later, this time on the other side of the second level, by the path down. Saw her on widescan, and ran and beat a couple others to her. Dropped only honey and another chip.
Next spawn was 53 minutes later, back by the first place, I got her again, 3rd time in a row, and yet again, she drops honey and chips.
I spent another hour and a half, then gave up after no more luck, just basically pissed off. But by that time I already had 2 1/2 stacks of beehive chips, and a couple stacks of honey and insect wings just from killing the placeholders, which gave me more than enough to just go and buy the friggin dagger.
I did it as a 30 WHM and subbed my lv 6 RNG for widescan, in full-blown, lv.1 Fishing armor. Sophie barely hit me for more than 2-3 hp at a time, and most of the time she missed, so the fights were incredibly easy.
i usually farm chips here on this hill to make beeswax, since that is my main sorce of income. i have never actually camped her but i have seen her a few times, six to be exact and have only got the drop once. this is with using my thf while farming. its aggravating to say the least, with a record of 1/5. i hate this stingy NM...
1/5 is stingy?? i'm 0/12 on teh Whirlwind, my friend is 1/13 on the same NM. I've heard of much much worse records on some of the big money NMs too (on the order of 0/40 for Jagged Ear Jack, the Torrent, and others) 1/5 isn't bad for an NM which spawns very regularly, and has a relatively short spawn period. Plus the item isn't really worth camping for money as it's only worth like 2-3K last time i checked. I've camped her 3 times, and killed her once. I'm trying to get the item for my RNG which is still low level.
Sophie has always been my most reliable NM. Usually no more than 2-3 people (including me) are camping it or even farming bees while im there. Tonight however I was stood up....
Ok.... well in the middle of typing this sophie popped. Anyways to make a long story short since it wont have the same effect anymore, i camped her for 3 hours... and she usually pops every 45 min. Very pathetic drop too, only a single beehive chip. In the three hours I camped her i filled my inv with chips and honey. I only have to ask why Sophie... why?
I actually just camped it today on the Siren Server and killed it twice Well, today anyway. On my other char i camped it once. Well, anyway today i went up to the second floor where she spawns and found her just sitting there. So i being a level 17drk/3rng(for wide scan) killed her no with no problem. I got the drop so i guess im 1/3 but thats not the point the thing i wanted to tell everyone is i have a pritty close guess to her spwans. She spawns once every 45mins on the second floor and even tho people dont think it helps to kill maneating bees i do. Not to mension if ur poor like me the do drop stacks of beehive chips which do sell for 3.2k on my server so im pritty happy. Oh and the dagger i sold it for 9k. I hope this in some way helps people camping this nm.
Well I was just going to Camp Lizzy but it seemed that everyone else was alos. So I waited like 30 minutes and some stupd lvl 75 Ranger got it. SO I decided to go after Sophie. I went to the second story and no one else was there I was so happy. Killed like 3 hornets then I saw the Name Stinging Sophie I was so happy so I ran and Hit her. Even at lvl 13 she was still hard I even had to use Mighty Strikes. But I killed her and got the drop. It sells for like 7K-9k. ^_^
When i saw Sophie she was on the 2nd floor, behind the ramp that leads up to the 3rd floor. From experience i can say she always spawns on the 2nd floor, i've seen her there about 15 times. But unless you're planning on using the dagger, don't bother with sophie, dagger's not worth very much, just kill bees for the chips, and honey (for sandy quest, easy fame from it, and a decent amount of money for lots of them.)
lol i kiled this NM alot when i was bored, i stand at about 25/56, i get bored alot -.-, ad usualy end up selling Beestinger to NPC, or giving to new ppl for free
its not even worth the effort unless u wanna farm bees and just hope u run up on sophie... the dagger sells for 2k on diabolos so its just better to make beeswax from the chips you find and get 800gil per wax and 10k per stack instead of just sitting around for 2k
dagger sells for 2k on diabolos...?! i play on diabolos and right now it's 8k in sandoria. Leveling RNG so i'm sure because i just checked. When i started playing about 6 months ago it was going for 4-6k (i was thf and remember clearly because of events that happened with a friend who got me playing ^^). Maybe bastok has around 2k because everyone just takes it to the closest city... well tomorrow (warp) (airship to bastok) (save 6k?)
I spend a lot of time farming at the North Gustaberg hill for Beehive Chips, Honey, Goblin Masks, Wild Onions, etc, and I run into Sophie pretty regularly. The first 2 times I got the Beestinger, and sold it both imes. But that's been it. For some reason, even though I'm farming as 20THF for Treasure Hunter, Sophie simply won't drop the dagger anymore. I currently stand at 2/6. It's irritating, but I guess I just got lucky the first times.
Anyway, guess I'll share some info from my experiences with this NM:
~It can and will spawn anywhere on the second level of this hill. Not just in the open areas. I've seen it a few times in the narrow spots between the open areas.
~The quickest I have ever seen it respawn was after about 20 minutes. I killed it, then roughly 20 minutes later I walked right up on it again.
~It can use both Pollen and Final Sting. Pollen recovers a decent amount of it's HP (about a 5th), and Final Sting kills it but does major damage to you.
~If it kills you with Final Sting, you could still get the drop. I attacked it at half health (a mistake) once because I was afraid somebody else would come along and take it. Once I got it's health down to about half, it killed me with Final Sting for around 200 damage. I was 15THF/7RNG at the time. The text log displayed "Amick was defeated by the Stinging Sophie" followed by "Stinging Sophie falls to the ground". But then it kept scrolling to display "You find a beehive chip on the Stinging Sophie. Amick obtains a beehive chip." So it's possible to obtain items from it, even while dead.
~It is bigger and flies higher off the ground than a standard Maneating Hornet. If you're not widescanning, you may be able to spot it from a distance this way.
