Pirate Ninja

He is by far the funniest Pirate/Ninja/Samurai in FFXI. One of the best lines was during the Zilart missions. He was talking about a certain Mithra and said, "but no one was interested in her booty."
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 11 2007 at 1:17 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) gilgamesh was in 12 he had 8 arms, and was an idiot and fought you with his beast dog "Enkidu", he was also a bumbling lap dog for "X-death" in ffv, in which "X-death" banishes him to an alternate universe for being an idiot. he was in ix, he was in ffiii with the name "Gigameth", he has no affiliation with india, and was a king of mesopotamia (im pretty sure i spelled it right). made friends with ekidu a beast man, after ekidu died he looked for immortality, which he did not get, and died.
Racial issue.

Aside from this forum, I keep hearing again and again that people call Gilgamesh an elvaan. How come? I mean, are you having problems seeing those perfectly rounded, quite human ears of his? Do they taper to ridiculous points to you? Is it because he's a little bit more tanned than other hume's?
Other than that, Gilgamesh makes me happy. In my trousers.
helps me with the ladies..

The Epic of Gilgamesh

In the "Epic of Gilgamesh" Gilgamesh was a king that was said to be half man half god. In his journeys he befriended a hairy beast and when his friend died he was hurt so he set out on his quest for immortality which in the end he didnt recieve. Gilgamesh once said "If this is a world of justice then why do people die that have done no wrong?".

According to my lit proffesor, this was one of the first stories known to man. Yes it was present in ancient sumerian culture. However, my hist. Prof. who studies indian society, said she has seen and touched a tablet that depicts this story. also the tablet predates the ones of mesopotamia. she seems to think they shared the story, since they traded with eachoter. but who cares really.

Hmm, I don't remember anything about Gilgamesh being in FFIX and I explored a decent amount of the game... Not doubting anyone though.

But yes, in FFVIII he had four arms and the red cloak and such.

In FFIX, Gilgamesh is the real name of the 4 armed man that you first meet in Alexandria, then Treno, and then in Dagguero(sp?.

Gilgamesh also had a Cameo of sorts in FF6 as well, you could talk to him in the Colleseum in the world of ruin.

There was also the Gilgamesh fake on the doom train that attacked you when you walked into the room with a treasure chest. He did like an 8 attack special that did 1 damage per hit lol.

Yes Thegreatdarigaz and LeonXGriever are correct! Gilgamesh appears in the myths and legends of the Mesopotamian people. There is a poem called the Epic of Gilgamesh. It is one of the earliest works of literature in the world. Through the heroic adventures of Gilgamesh, a legendary king, the narrative offeres a glimpse into the beliefs and concerns of the ancient Sumerians. The epic tells of Gilgamesh's unsuccessful quest for immortality, a theme that recurs in ancient literature

actually gilgamesh is from ancient mesopotamian mythology where he is portrayed as their first king who became immortal and lives with the gods
thinking out loud TOL
# Aug 10 2004 at 10:48 AM Rating: Decent
Wasn't the REAL Gilgamesh the persia King that wandered the world with Ekidu the wildman??

Thus making him more akin to modern day India than any other nation?

I'm just thinking out loud...don't mind me....

the reason he is always portrayed with multiple arms is he from indian(india) mythology. and most of thier gods and demons had multiple arms like their shiva, not to be confused with the last 4 shivas in FF. i think one of the older ff did portay her with multiple arms

Gilgamesh was also in FFIX, but only the more explorative players found his name out.

Whats the betting that when (if they ever do) the level cap is raised again, you have to duel him?
i mean c'mon, who's gonna be harder? a pretty solid and quick-for-an-old-guy man in pyjamas, or a revered master samurai/pirate?
hmm

Yes... I'm sure a quest giving NPC is going to look like a FF8 summon... Wouldn't that be a nice sight when you walk into norg.

Technically Gilgamesh is the recurring boss in Final Fantasy 5, who then made an appearance in Final Fantasy 8. Both of those incarnations of Gilgamesh were that of a large man with 8 arms, wielding multiple blades. The Final Fantasy 11 Gilgamesh, while he seems to be a rather normal Elvaan man, is probably so proficient in the art of swordplay that anyone fighting him would think that he had 8 arms and 8 blades.
