Soloed this NM as 63RDM/BLM for my BRD's AF1 (I'm leveling BRD and I'm trying to solo the AFs that I can). I was in full AF Armor and it turned out to be a very easy fight. I had done my research in the forums and saw that it was possible to solo at my level (Here goes nothing).

The room is located in (D-5) of Ranguemont Pass. I didn't get any aggro on the way and cleared the place of the weapons before starting fight. It is recommended since you dont want them to link during the fight, specially if you are going to fight this NM in a party where there are lower level people who still get aggro here.

I put up all my buffs up: Protect IV, Shell III, Refresh, Stoneskin, Phalanx, Blink, Enblizzard, Ice Spikes, and Barwater (Barwater and Shell are recommened since it spams Waterga II). I casted sneak before I spawned it and it did not aggro. I tried sleeping it but it seems to have resistance againts sleep and silence. My other enfeebles however did stick. I then engage it and start my soloing routine (Keep buffs and enfeebles up). I hit it for about 15-20 damage a hit (Not bad for a RDM). My Stoneskin seems to hold on for quite a bit between recasts. It did spam Waterga II several times during the fight. Of those times only once did I not have Stoneskin up and hit me for about 78 damage. Other than that its attacks are mediocre. It does have lots of HP so took a bit longer to kill. I finish it with a Blizzard II for 215 damage (Game over for Tros). I end up with 3/4 my HP and 30 MP left.

This NM is not very hard and I recommend anyone who is getting their BRD AF and have a level 60+ Job to solo it. I have read other jobs struggle a bit more with this NM (RDM is one of the best solo jobs). So if you're not confident you might want to bring a friend or two to help kill this NM. Hope this Helps, Rate me up (Or at least dont rate me down).
Solo'd as 65 BRD.

Soloed it as a 65 BRD/WHM. I restarted my AF, didn't feel like getting help, so decided to go do it myself.

Underleveled sword skill isn't god. XD

Took about 20 minutes, lowest HP was 69. Died twice before beating it the third time. I basically had to kite it around and wait for paeon to fill my HP, because ballad is really useless.

Hit me for about 50-80, with an additonal affect of 20-21 sometimes. This is with full carapace gear.

All in all, a fun fight, and I don't plan on tossing this dagger because it's a signal of the hard work that went into trying to solo it.

Cheers.

Solo'd as a 60 RDM/WHM with full AF, nothing special as far as gear goes, and my dagger is underleveled.

Hornetneedle + Enfire, Demon Rings, MP earrings, Reraise Gorget (for accuracy), Gramary Cape (Magic Defense), and RK belt.

Kept all my buffs up, including Barblindra and Barwater, and used Energy Drain at 100% to get about 55 MP back. He barely broke Stoneskin twice. :D

Soloed as 62 thf/whm. This guy was really hard.
Opened with DE for 350 dmg, barely flinched his hp. Energy drained him for a total of 224 mp, his watergas did 26 dmg with barwatera up, so I was actually nervous when he ran out of mp. Ended up having to steal some mp off of a wandering weapon, stole a total of 232 mp from him, and still ending my fight in the red.

If I had to do again, i woulda brought help. The fight was too close for comfort.

L62 RDM/BLM and I soloed it in about 5 mins.

I wouldn't say it's "easy" but if you buff up properly, it is a fun fight.

Thunder IV -> Blizzard IV -> Fire IV -> dead. It doesn't have as much hp as everyone is making it seem. I can't really comment on how much it hits for as it never broke my stoneskin. Also, here's a tip. It doesn't aggro if you have sneak up.

OK, I exaggerated, it didn't completely die in 3 spells... but I went in wearing evasion gear, so my damage is a little gimp. =P
Thunder IV: 924 damage
Blizzard IV: 1159 damage
Fire IV: 822 damage

Smacked it for: 21, 15, 10, 10 additional effect 11.

My Tros had about 2970 hp. So 3000ish hp. Have fun and enjoy your Paper Knives. ^^

Well, I decided the other day to take this guy on with the help of a Japanese Brd/Blm at lvl 74. We got to the room and cleared it out with little difficulty (a few aggros from gobs due to the lack of invisible but nothing major) and we got ready to go. We were a little unprepared (i forgot that the other Brd was subbing black mage so i didnt do bar water) but we began the fight anyways... suffice it to say it didnt go well, we got waterga 2 cast on us 3 times and about 3 or 4 of its skills and it was over, we ran. Moral of the story is this, when fighting this guy remember your proper buffs and bring in a job that is capable of dealing some good damage such as a drk.

Oh and I just took him on again today with a few friends (51 Blm, 50 Drk, 48 Drg, and 45 Bst) and we obliterated him so I now have my Paper Knife yay! ^_^

I'm pretty convinced that it's soloable for a Summoner @ lvl 50+, using the same strategy as the lvl 20 avatar fights.

I took this guy on today, I didn't win, but I didn't die either... I believe that I would've won, but I screwed up when using my 2HR, and only got off 2 Judgement Bolts, after my Astral Flow ran out, I just Instant Warped out of there.

At lvl 50, nothing there will aggro you, so you don't need to worry about having room to re-summon, and if you cast Sneak before triggering it's spawn, you won't even get the initial aggro.

All-in-all, this thing's got a LOT of HP, which is it's strongest advantage, outside of that, just watch out for Waterga 2 and it's Cross-something...

Just confiriming what I said in the previous post...

A lvl 50+ SMN CAN solo this thing. I drank Yagudo Drinks and let Ramuh tank the thing until I had around 100 MP. After that, I just blasted it with 3 Judgement Bolts, and it went down. The Bolts were doing upwards of 780 damage to the thing, and for the record, this was on LightningsDay.

Me and my LS leader, a lvl 65 pld (I was 40 Brd) took it on today.
The fight got a little tough, his AOE's hit me hard, and Tentacle took healthy chunks out of our paladdin, but a lvl 65 can solo it.

solo it as a lvl55 rdm and gain 18xp.

Fight would have been easier if i remember to cast shell2 and barwater on myself before fighting.

anyway, it seems that i can complete my brd af1 using a different job.

Was fairly easy for me, I had high level help and used Soul Voice off the bat. Two Whms made this that much easier, because it allowed the PLD and the DRK (who was about 5-10 levels higher than our PLD) shuffle hate without anyone getting killed.

Also, we noticed that stuff like silence and slow and every other debuff was resisted and didnt stick to it, but I landed a reqiuem III and an elegy on it early on and it didnt wear off--maybe its vunerable to songs? Who knows.

a few weeks back me and my LS went to go take this guy down. we were all lvl 40 and our brd needed to finish her Af1.
after finding our way through the pass we finally find the spot and get buffed up. when tros finally comes out...we get owned...
we end up losing horribly and dont want to try it again...until lvl 50..
our party consisted of:
50 pld
50 drk
2 lvl 50 thfs
50 blm (me)
50 brd

we start out by using barwatera and soul voice'd water carol, making our water resistence around 112 or so. then tros comes out
the thfs SATAVB it and the pld and drk sc it, allowing me to finish it with freeze ^_^
oh yeah and that waterga II that hit us for soo much before, now hit us for 26 each
point is have a well rounded team and keep the water resistence high, and this guy is cake

Talk about an NM, this guy is HARD.

Went with LS mates to help a BRD do this, we nearly got owned.

We were: 50rdm/smn (me), 52pld/war, and 52blm/war, then the 40brd/whm

Well, things were OK for awhile, until it was spamming Waterga II, so I silenced it as best I could. Trying to debuff was hard because I was healing like a madman using Cure III and IV. Couldn't get Haste off to help this a bit. Thankfully we cleared out those Evil Weapons first, heh.

Somehow the BLM pulled hate, I think from a WS, insta'ed >.> So PLD uses 2hour, I'm spamming Cure IV at this point. We DO win, but pld had 64hp left, I had like...1mp X_X

Thought my AF1 NM was hard, nothing compared to this dude.
Ouch!

I helped a BRD on my LS today with this, this is what our party consisted of

56 RNG
50 RNG
46-48 BRD (can't remember)
42 PLD (me)
41 DRK
40 WHM
45 THF

This thing beat me to a pulp before we were finished, it was attacking me like heck, did a hit around 127 DMG, then did Hard Membrane for around 349 DMG which killed me at that point, I lasted less than a min. and so did this guy since after i died, everyone went to 2H and ripped him to shreads

The only thing this thing has going for it is AoE blind, which was really bothering our drk. Other than that it was a joke.

Useless post.

For the AF1 items I recommend a balanced party of 45s or higher. High-level help is nice of course, but not everyone can/wants to mooch for everything.

Ur taking the lvl 60 DRG/SAM too lightly my friend. They can do almost constant pentathrust. any lvl 44 could fall to that.

The whm in that party must have really been lacking in the ability department. He should have been able to solo Tros if needed.

I helped a bard kill him the other day along with my thief friend. Our party was:

62 THF/30 NIN
56 WHM/20 BLM (me)
42 BRD/21 WHM

Unfortunately the bard activated the mob while I was in the middle of casting stoneskin, so he got beaten to death in short order. After that the thief and I killed Tros with little trouble, though the thief did drop into the orange a couple times, mostly due to the fact that Tros spams his Maelstrom AOE when he is near death.
