# Jan 11 2008 at 3:13 AM Rating: Decent
solo'd as 60blm/22nin . Had H.Q. ice staff equipped with wizard gloves for +15 elemental skill other gear gave me a total of +35 int. Cast shadows then flare on the rarab. Follow it with a Thunder II and it is deasd everytime. it takes 2/3 shadows before its dead. Course there are those "incidents" <.< but we won't discuss those. Got 250 or more exp without band everytime
leveling on these is great

I started soloing these at around 62 on my BLM, but it didn't turn out very well. At first I was trying out at the second Animalier, not the one where the high level mobs start appearing but the one where the Dhalmel camps start, just past the Tragopan camps. I was unable to really take these out at 62 for some reason, but it may have just been inexperience. Also, at this camp, there are more often than not, parties. They like to take out your Animalier and its not a good idea to encroach upon them with your rarab slaying. Well, let's just say, by the time I dinged 65 on these, I was pretty damn good at it, averaging about 4-4.5k/hour.

A brief description of my technique: I started out trying out different things, adjusting my strategy to make it easier, taking risks to see what works, etc. In the end, what I would do was throw up Stoneskin and run over to the area where the gobs are. The more you do this, the more you get used to the gob's behavioral patterns, and you will also find out where the safest place to rest is. You want to rest fairly close to the circle where the gobs are so you can keep an eye on them, but not too close where you would get aggro.

Because I did not have HQ staves or a Sorcerer's ring, my Flare spell only took out about 90-95% of the mob's health, but never one shotted it. On Firesday I would see 99% sometimes, but about 50 damage short of defeating the rarab. Well anyway, this meant that I needed to use the pull and sleep method. If you can one shot these every time, more power to you, because it will increase your exp/hour well above what an exp party will net you at these levels, easily.

Anyway, I decided to move a bit further in. F-7 I believe it was. Well, there is a Hobgoblin Animalier of course, as well as a Hobgoblin Venerer, a RNG type. I was camping South of them in the little passage. This is the best BST gob in the place to exp on like this because there are NEVER any parties there. I would throw up Stoneskin, then run close to the goblin's encampment, making sure not to aggro the Vernerer whom often liked to stare into my little passageway. I would wait until I knew that the Animalier had just stopped moving, because afterwards, 98% of the time he would not move for a good 15 seconds afterward. If he has his back turned, I would stun the rarab, pull it to camp, and sleep. If you start casting sleep at max range, he will not hit you.

I cast Flare on him at max range, moving further South, then he would take a hit off my Stoneskin (it will take one without breaking) and right after my Drain would fire and the rarab is gone. Sometimes it would have a little sliver of health left, which I would just throw a Fire I on it and it would take him out. Then I’d recast Stoneskin, eat a cookie and start resting again. By the time the Animalier would pop another rabbit, my MP would be almost full again, and if Conserve MP kicked it, it would be even more.

If you keep an eye on the Animalier as you’re resting, you can make pulls anywhere between ~500-full MP, depending on when you see a window opening up. Doing this, I was receiving chain 3’s every time, and chain 4 rarely, if Conserve MP procs well on the chain 3 rarab and the gobs aren’t stupid with their movement pattern. I found this to be a very easy way to level up, seeing as I could do whatever I wanted during the time, go afk, etc. and work on my own time. The time it actually took to pull and take out a rarab was only 45 seconds, compared to the 2 minutes it takes to rest up, so its fairly minimal effort.

Just remember to keep reraise up, because there is no one there to raise you if you ***** up. And you WILL ***** up. Sometimes the gobs don’t like to be nice and if you get both of them + the rarab on you at the same time, you’ll have to do some quick Elemental Seal + Sleepga2 (+ Manafont even) in order to buy some time to log out. So be careful, and don’t take risks if you aren’t prepared to bite the dust doing so. Generally speaking its rather easy to avoid getting owned here if you’re a quick thinker and know what you’re doing. So anyway, good luck and I hope this helps.

**Oh and by the way, contrary to the last poster, I don't find it necessary to use /NIN at all. I actually found /WHM a ton more useful as you could heal yourself if **** hits the fan, not to mention Stoneskin alone was enough to prevent damage, didn't even need Blink.

soloing pets

I've been soloing these for the past couple days as a 63 blm/whm. Theres are a few different ways to fight these things.

First off sub nin if you can it'll make it way safer, i unfortunately havent leveled nin.

When you pull the rarab has to be behind the gob and you should be pulling it away from the gobs back. Dont let the gob see his pet running after you.

At first i was pulling with Flare and then pulling it away to my camp and casting Thunder 2. That didnt work so well because the cast time of flare is so long, the gob would sometimes turn and see me. Also blink isnt 100% so sometimes id get interrupted on my thunder 2. This is what you do if you sub nin because you have less mp

A much better way is to pull with stun run to your camp and cast sleep 2. then AM it, sleep 1 it (you wont get interrupted if you time it right) then cast something. I was casting thundaga 2.

my flare was doing 1150ish when sandy had control (rep circlet). i think they have around 1300HP. if you have a vulcans staff, a rep. circlet, moldy earring, as much int as you can get from gear + food, and a sorcerers ring then you might be able to one shot it.. which would make the process much easyer.

At 63 they were giving between 240-300 xp each no ring. you can chain them easy too if you get lucky with the positioning of the gob. Soloing these rarabs can make as much or more xp/hr than a regular xp party.

you can also Duo these with any other mage job for a safer way but xp is cut in half.

carefull not to link the gob cause hell kick your *** at 63. if you link the gob try to sleep them both, cast invis and run to zone, or just simply log out.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit:
***** Flare. AM is the least dmg/mp efficient set of spells. I adjusted my technique.

this is faster and takes less mp resulting in higher chains and more xp/hr.

Stun pull to camp > sleep 2 > stonega III > sleep > thundaga II

aga spells, i believe, are just a little bit less efficient than single target ones but they do good bulk damage for their level, and thats what you need with the sleep nuke method.

theres only 2 safe camps in the entire zone. both in F-7. one is right on the F7/F8 line and the other(which is often taken by an exp party)is in the NE quadrant of F7... on the the F7/G7 line.

You probably could, I soloed a few of these the other day as a 65 SMN, and BLM has the nuke + sleep method.
