Vana'diel Bestiary: Tumbling Truffle  

I cant believe i put in all the hunting time i did jus for the hat drop. Im finally 1/11 (TH1 most of the time) and its also jus cause i wanted the hat for my whm. (i hate buying stuff when u can get it as a drop and its an excuse to go nm hunting^^) Nothing to exciting here since it is barely camped on sylph. Jus the usual, kill poison funguars and the hrly+ spawn. Although it spawns in the whole crevice, not just the end. Btw it wasnt a total waste the 1st 10 times, i did make a collection of stks of sleepshrooms, chips, and honey from the whole 2 mobs in the crevice.

I notice a lot of people complain about spawn times. I've camped this NM a lot when I needed to farm Dark Crystals and/or sleepshrooms and I'm about 90% sure he is a lottery pop from everything in the canyon. Because when you kill the stuff slow or not at all his spawn times seem to get much longer.

If my experience with other lottery pops tought me anything its kill everything that spawns in the area as fast as you can when it spawns and then you most likely get the fastest NM spawn rate. This one being about an hour.

Uhhhh how do I get in the canyon? I just wanna see...and kill....and that that hat! MUahahahaha, the hat is praticly useless but it sure looks good ^^ like a wannabe tacticians magicians hat

i killed him. i spent an hour killing truffles, and logged out and left and came back an hour later and he was waiting for me to kill him. yeah, i got da hat. its my non-exping hat. i wear it until its time to fight.

I camped him for two hours alone, and he pops. Get a sleepshroom. I go back to sandy and sell my 2 stacks of sleepshrooms (about 2k per stack) and then go back. About an hour after his last spawn, he doesn't spawn again. 1 1/2 hours after he spawned, no re-spawn. I'm all alone down here, and no spawn of every hour. I'm gonna stay here till i get the hat for my whm. I could easily buy it, but it's more fun this way, somehow.

I was farming in the highlands (sheep skin and chips) waiting for mary to spawn (to this date i've NEVER seen her.. and i've been playing sinse the NA release..=/ ) after i had filled up my inventory with chips and sheep wool i decide to run to sandy to sell them and go mine for a little while.. on my way through Lathane i decide to check on TT.. so i run down to the spawn point (took me a while to find out how to get down there) i get to the end of the area and there he is.. so well Dia pull and after a pretty easy fight (lvl 25 rdm) he falls.. and drops.. O.O was my expression.. but i was happy.. sold the hat for about 7k .. lol.. funny thing is i made more from farming while hunting mary..

Don't even know why I decided to camp this guy. I had just finished my last avatar battle, and I needed cash for my real Lv20 equipment. I was going to head to Yughott Grotto, but I decided to swing by the Truffle just for kicks. 10k never hurt anyone.

In an unbelievable (and completely uncharacteristic) stroke of luck, he spawned after ten minutes of killing funguars. And he dropped a sleepshroom and a hat.

Needless to say, I was ecstatic. I wore the hat home proudly.

Saw this guy on widescan while heading to sandy took my 30 minutes to get him (didnt know how to get to monument) and buy the time i leave the cave into the crack he spawns in hes gone off track.

yesterday night i was going to the monument in la theine. I saw this nm jus sitting there no one camping it at all. I got the clay tablet first and then went back to kill nm. I used sneak attack on it and it took off about half of its life. Id guess a lvl 25 would have no problem with him. I killed it and got the hat. At the time i was 37thf/18blm. i used blm sub so i could warp back to selbina after getting the tablet.

I dont normally camp NMs, either A: because too time consuming, and I could be out leveling, or B: some *&^%%# comes after I've been there for an hour and more and "steals" it. But I figured it's a small enough spawn area. My only competetion was a Taru whm. After he left, I stayed for about another 30 mins. And sure enough, he popped. I and was thinking "I'm prolly not even gonna get the hat." Well, I did. It's not much, but it was an easy 10k. However, I went after Ashmaker, and after killing every orc in sight, he popped RIGHT BESIDE ME! And sure enough someone one stole it. Oh well, I got the hat right?

I recently stumbled upon this NM while looking for the Stone Monument. There seems to be some confusion on how to exactly reach his spawning area, so here is some info to get you down there:

1. Start by entering the gorge that stretches through H-6 and H-7. Enter it at H-7 on the side that is next to the small body of water.

2. Proceed through the gorge until you find a tunnel at the end of it at I-6. Go through the tunnel and you will pop out at the western end of the gorge that stretches through J-6 and K-5.

3. Proceed through this gorge and you will find another tunnel at the end of it at K-5. Go through this tunnel and you will pop out at L-6, the eastern end of the gorge where Tumbling Truffle spawns.

And a few other tips for you Fungus Hat hunters:

~The Truffle is a lottery pop of the Poison Funguars, walk through the gorge killing them until it spawns.

~I'm pretty sure it can spawn anywhere in the gorge, not just in the circled area on the map.

~As my directions explain above, you don't have to go through Odelle's Cave to get to this NM. So it's possible to ride a Chocobo all the way down to its location.

~Average spawning time did seem to be roughly an hour.

Also, I never saw a anybody else come down there while I was waiting for it to spawn. So I doubt it is a very heavily camped NM, due to its location being rather out of the way. And I acquired 3 stacks of Sleepshrooms from killing Funguars while waiting on it. They sell for about 3000 a stack on Ifrit.

As for fighting the NM itself, I couldn't really suggest a level you should be before taking it on. I fought it as 36PLD/18THF, and I crushed it. But as with most NMs, don't be fooled by its level range. They are usually always stronger than the numbers will show.

HELP! im confused...
1) how do u get into the gorge?

2)the title says "Tumbling Trouffle @L6" but the mad circles it at J6 .....which is it?

5 hours and no fu*ing spawn ;_;
