General InformationLottery spawn of the Damselflies that spawn from (D-8) through (F-8) in Valkurm Dunes PH Info from SmokesalotThe PH is the mob the prevents the NM from spawning until it is killed. In the case of the Valkurm Emperor, it is one of the Damselflies that roams about Whitesands beach in Valkurm Dunes. What a kagillion people refuse to take into their minds is that VE has ONE placeholder, and that's it. Go to the beach with Widescan ability, and position yourself at the peak of the sandhill just northwest of the pack of trees in the middle of the beach. This is a truncated list, but as you can see the PH is located in the set of four Damselflies between the leeches and the snipers, and is always the top one. These flies are always grouped in four, and are always located between the snipers and the thread leeches. When VE pops your list will look like this... Sniper Sniper Sniper Damselfly Damselfly Damselfly Valkurm Emperor Thread Leech Thread Leech Thread Leech Thread Leech VE always pops on the bottom of the list. If there aren't four flies in the list, that means someone else is killing them. Either nearby parties, or other campers. If this is happening, you have to figure out a way to nab yourself the PH, and be 100% sure that the fly you kill is the PH. After that, go ahead and let the other campers waste their time killing the other flies. Valkurm Emperor Special Attacks

I was bored so I was like hmmm. Im gonna go camp Valkurm Emperor. So I equip my ranger subjob and go. I get there. Forget I am not /anon and I get asked for a raise as soon as i get off my chocobo. I quickly /anon. They keep persisting and I agree. I ask for their POS and they tell me. I think to myself "Let me check widescan before I leave." So I do and i scroll through fast. Noticing something looked different. I scroll back up and there it is. I track it and go right to it and Cast Dia. (Notice this is literally a minute or two after i get there) I quickly realize i cannot kill it at this level so I do "/l I am fighting <t> but I am gonna die somebody come help me." They tell me to take the Emperor to the La theine zone. I start to take it. I link 3 damselflys with it and I swear at least 50 people followed me all the way to the zone. I had to use a number of cure III's and Benediction. But we got it. 3 of us and we split profits. I already spent it all on spells that I were missing and a Holy Phial.
lol..I HATE THIS NM..then again im on Bahamut

I love this NM. I got the my fisrt hairpin by myself, he popped right next to me lol. Then yesterday my friend and i decided to camp him because he was poor. So i said to him stand at the area where i got him last. No lie; in less then 5 mins he popped right next to him and we got the drop. It seems like he usually pops near e-8 for me.
I have a record breaker, I camped VE for about an hour and a half, then my LS bud showed and we teamed up, 4 hours (5 and a half hour total) it never showed up yet, or we would have seen it, he had widescan up every 2 secs.
i leave because i feel like i am wasteing my time. he stays. 6 hrs later (he's been camping 4 6hrs) no pop. it's midnight and he goes to bed.
Next morning he gets the drop after about 3hrs, estimated.

Camped it for 5 hours and it never showed. I am sure I didn't miss it, as I was alone on one half of his spawn area and my friend was on the other half. There were several other campers in the area and we were all talking to one another every now and then and nobody saw it :p

I have horrible luck hunting this nm can some1 give me some hints or spawn times to claim him. Thanks for the help. Also give me a message if ur in bizmarck if u wana hunt any nms:)

icmaped VE today for and 1hour 30min then i got my friend to come help me he was there 10 min he saw the VE hit stun got it i ran to it killed it got the drop :) the other campers where p????? they where there for 2 hours or more

Ok so im at my friends house watching his lil bro play. He is in a party ok high lvl 20 low lvl 30's hunting the emp when me and my friend notice something his parties treasure distrubution is Quartermaster so we tell him "dude have the party change it to lot or most likley if you ever get the emp and the drop you will never see it along with everyone else in you're group besides the quartermaster" but of course he didn't listen because why would a lvl 30 whm listen to his broand his bro's friend who are lvl 50 pld <----me and lvl 50 drk <-----friend. so the emp spawns they get him they get drop then suddenly the quartermaster disbands and warps back to town...we warned him
heheh i would say i have bad luck with NM's.. the ones that drop high price items i never claim.. and the ones that drop crap thing i always claim but never drop :(
my luck kinda changed yesterday
was in dunes.. waiting for a friend to come online to warp him.. i stop by the VE spawn... standing there.. bored... i alt tab read the forums.. pop back and think.. bah ***** this.. i turn around and bam it spawns infront of me.. my heart nearly stoped hands stated shaking.. looked around and see the 5-8 people running towards him whack my stun macro.. it landed.. /joy.. no drop /fume
that little event left me smiling for hours :)
i now have the confidence that i can beat vokers to NM's so i went back today
theres about 7 people camping
so i'm sitting there whacking tab while on my target select for stun and i see emps name appear i paniced whacked stun.. out of range i hit lock on and run
a WAR in full AF ( why the hell does he need it? ) its running up to it.. i knew i was gonna lose as the 3 thf/rng turnt around but i still tried
i see the war hit voke.. and i thought it was all over..
but the name in the target box never turn claimed ( purple )so i whacked stun... out of range >_<
i looked up and saw the WAR had voked the goblin leecher which was closer to him than the VE
i ran forward 2 steps and tried one last time for stun..
Target claimed.. by me
no drop.. but yet again i beat the voker by luck this time but heh ive never been so happy
went back for a 3rd round with this biiatch

lol this is hilarious, im ptying to lvl up my whm for sneak, and these guys start making an alliance, my pt doesn't want to join cus we'd lose exp, so we keep on fighting, our pwr lvl takes off to the alliance and im like wtf? so i go over there and that alliance of 16-18s killed the valkurm emperor, so they are all shouting Woot!! and stuff cause it dropped the pin, but the greedy *** leader disbanded the whole alliance to get the pin, and the pin was lost lol, no one got it!!!

i camped for this stupid pin for a month, and have come across 4 drops and about 40+ claims, i camped it with 40drk/1rng

I had camped VE twice with no luck even claiming him. I just happened to be walkin through the dunes today, and VE spawns right in front of me. I hit my chi blast/NPC macro and claim him. I beat him easily, and to my surprise got the drop. This sells for about 400k on Kujata server, so this will go a long way toward gettin Ochiudo's Kote.

I have had the worst luck camping this guy. I was heading that way to camp it and seen all the people waiting around the area. So I was thinking to myself, argh somebody got it, might as well try to hunt the golden bat, was about to pass one character in my way but turned to head to the tunnels. Midway through running I go to check widescan and there is the emporer. I try running back to it to get to it but the character I WOULD HAVE PASSED got to it before me. So if I would have just kept on going the direction I needed to go, I would have got him. Attempt #1
I stayed at the area where he last spawned....and waited...and waited...and waited. I was thirsty and went to go grab a sip of water in the kitchen. By the time I came back to the room, there is the emporer, not 3 feet from me in the direction I was facing....being attacked by someone else....GRRRRRR. Attempt #2
I waited....and waited....and waited...then I saw leeches nearby and said hmmm well I do need to get carbuncle's ruby. Leech knocked my health down pretty good. (Darn Misses). Started to rest my health up which was down to a quarter, and there he was. I knew I couldn't take him on with a quarter of my health so I stayed resting and someone else got it. Final Attempt.

k here is a ture story believe it or not...

for those who keep asking. I was 40 THF when i started to camp him and he kicks me prity hard most of the time but i never died so if a 40 THF can do it i dought any other job will have trouble.

I seem to be on a lucky streak just lately. I was in Valkurm for Bard quest so I figured.. I need the hairpin but I could never afford it, so what the heck. I had intended to level Thief to 15 and try.. but this time I was DRG/WAR.
So, spent about 40 minutes - 1 hour running around killing Damselflys while the lazy campers amongst us (no offence) stood at the palm trees waiting. Night came and as I ran by a guy killing a Bogy and stopped to take a look.. the VE popped right in front of me.. I was already at 60% hp as a 36 DRG so I panicked a little knowing it was 29-30.. popped a mithkabob.. and took it down with no trouble.. it was hitting me for 20s and 30s with my RSE (lowish defense) and berserk on :/ Easy battle, and I got the drop.. at that point I was in heart attack territory.. but it was all good :)
They say 3 leaf mandragora buds bring you luck.. I've been carrying one around since Kazham and had nothing but good luck.. who knows, maybe it's true? ^^

I believe you can, at level 50 one Barrage killed it, so you should be fine. Just make sure to have TP just in case pumped and sharpshot/barrage ready. And if you 2h it's a piece of cake. Good luck.

ok, so my buddy and me decided to start camping as many NM's as possible, just for fun. i'm starting to believe that the gods know when i'm camping for cash and not to use it (1/1 on spipi, 1/1 ashmaker, 1/4 on tumbling truffle)...then the emporer srated a whole 0-for trend...but anyway...we drop by. i'm an annoyinbgly cute little taru mage, so i head into the trees (to say dumb stuff and dance a bunch in hopes of distracting the bored...haha...but dia ready to nab anything close to me)... all the lvl 50+ people have former a circle around the outside. my buddy joins in the circle to "fit in" but soon we're gettin hate becasue we're lvl 31 and 32 (not the might 50 or above)...we're told repeatedly that 2 low-30's can't take the emporer......well, i'm facing north, intent on the screen, enjoying the silence of recently used chat filers when "Um, a*****e!" pops in party chat...i turn to see my buddy with already 400 of 600 HP and the emporer on top of him...it literally spawned ON him...we lucked out...well, everyone starts yelling at me to let him die becasue he wasn't strong enough to handle the emporer and he should have know it...it which point i draw my elm pole beat stick, dia the emp and then bansih 2 it, then charge in....we wasted that fly quickly. honest...it never had a chance....so, no, i wouldn't say solo this thing at 30, but if one of them is a whm/thf, you'll win....that TH1 may not get you the drop, but we won, and that was cool in itself.....jaggedy eared jack? now there's a whole different headache....

How did a lvl 28 get this down to 1% when the rest of you are saying 35 is minimum? This leads me to believe I, as a 34 thf, could take VE w/ a few potions and PD....
