In the case of the Valkurm Emperor, it is one of the Damselflies that roams about Whitesands beach in Valkurm Dunes. What a kagillion people refuse to take into their minds is that VE has ONE placeholder, and that's it. Go to the beach with Widescan ability, and position yourself at the peak of the sandhill just northwest of the pack of trees in the middle of the beach. This is a truncated list, but as you can see the PH is located in the set of four Damselflies between the leeches and the snipers, and is always the top one. These flies are always grouped in four, and are always located between the snipers and the thread leeches. When VE pops your list will look like this... Sniper Sniper Sniper Damselfly Damselfly Damselfly Valkurm Emperor Thread Leech Thread Leech Thread Leech Thread Leech VE always pops on the bottom of the list. If there aren't four flies in the list, that means someone else is killing them. Either nearby parties, or other campers. Camped this nm for the first time today, it suked, i sat there for 5 and a half, and the think didnt even spawn once, and i know it did not for sure, cuz i was spamin with widescan the hole time.......
the spawn area is much larger than what is depicted above. You need to move West-East and so on so you can Scan the whole area. The four block area that the Emperor circle touches should be the area you patrol. (on the map above). Well hope this little tidbit helps.

Well it is june 3rd so this is an update, i'm ranger/thf camping this beast, my tally 12times killed of 14 times scanned (or seen). Drops... 0 .. that's right 0.. i have no idea why, i've talked to many ppl who cant believe my luck. but here's some timers for you...
Lowest time till next spawn 52 minutes, longestest 4.5 hours, and no ... I didnt just miss a spawn, i widescan like you wouldnt believe, of the times i've camped i've been lucky to beat the JP but not so lucky on drops. /thf hasnt helped yet.

got this very first time camping him.
LS buddy Spanke asked me to come out to camp it. i had nothing better to do, so of course i accepted. almost an hour later (bout 50 min) i see his YOU MY ***** <t> macro go off. my heart jumped when i say "Valkurm Emperor" as the <t>. i ran over to where he was camping, only to miss on the one swing i had at the thing ;; the pin dropped so it didnt matter much to me. sold for 385k in maybe 4-5 hours. me and my camping buddy both got 192500k. not bad for 50min work i would say.
now 1/1 on emp. going to try again w/e i can
btw: im a lv40 sam/war and hes a 47sam/war. took this guy apart in less then a minute

well as i posted b4 i got the drop for the first time 2 days ago...now i jsu fought him again, camped him no more than 20 minutes b4 he spawned right next to me, and got it again 2 days later.

That map on top that shows emperor spawn...is bs. it dosent spawn in that small of an area. Im a rng/thf,or thf/rng when camping it. I ve camped it enough to see it spawn in the weirdest places. from almost near the beach to all the way to the left side of E- 8. Anyhow my theories on Emp is that if you hunt it in a party the dro prate lowers allot. Im guessing becuase i was hunting it weekend and some **** kept partying and hunting it with his ls. He got it almost everytime it spawned, pissed me off. If you ask him if he got drop. He just runs away and says nothing. Then when spawn time comes around again he comes back. So after 6 or 7 spawns, of which he got 5 i got 2, i tired his *** out. This is like 7 am in the morning now. I decide to fight a fly for placeholder. Then i scan while fighting and i saw it ALL the way left on the E -8. So i diengaged and ran over there with flee. I saw a white mage i was like nooo!! but i belived she was afk. So i grabed hte emp with my darts. this is when i was 40 thf/rng, Half way through the fight i was getting owned pretty bad becuase i didnt have a bow with me. I had to use 2hr. after i killed it drop. the first two i killed that night was my friend, but not drop... But when i killed it solo it drops. Then just yesturday my friend went back out to help some noob with sub job. And he got emp. I told him to kick the noob from his party then kill it. Guess what...he got the dorp , no treasure hunter or what not needed. he was 41drk/1rng. So. the only way to hunt emp is solo. if you see people partying and killing it, its just wasting thier time and you hairpins.

THe little tiny circle on this map on this page is so wrong. In the 2 times I fought it, and the two other times I have seen it, it did not even spawn in the circle, seems like it spawns anywhere but the circle to me...

i jsu got the hairpin today...i camped it for no more than an hour as a 35PLD/1RNG and it spawned right next to me. I got right on it and fougfht it and won...no 2hr necessary. That was my first NM fight ever and i got the drop which sold for 260k in jeuno ah in about half an hour.

You do realize that they need the gil just as bad as you need it. At their level Armor/Weapons is ALLOT more expensive. Getting these items is like you getting items for say 20k Its not ALLOT. They may have 4mil gil but their next upgrade may cost 5mil... Its all the same. Youll get the drop, Keep it or Sell it. Sell it you will be set for a while on Gil. But once you get highlevel you will be doing the same thing they are so you can afford 1mil gil on your next upgrade. I dont enjoy having NMs taken but its life in Vana'Diel.

I cant begin to tell you how frustrated I am... Two of my LS members were hunting the Emperor, and i was heading to them so i could join in the fight, because i am a ranger. Anyways, i finaly get to the dunes, and right before they invite me in the pt they kill it and get the drop. So i decided to camp it, with a friend of mine. I waited 1 hour after the kill, and started scanning. 3 hours passed and nothing, so i decide to log out but my friend asked me to stay for another 5 mins, so i do. I scanned the sucker and ran to him as fast as I could, only to find out that this anon person with 2 astral rings got him. I proceeded to slap him, blah blah blah. All to say that I hate these ppl witha passion. They have all this good equip and yet still camp NM, and dont give the chance for others to get the item. Ive camped Emp multiple times before, only to get it stolen 3 times by the same guy...

From what i have discerened, i have concluded on the following theory:
--Ninjas and Rangers have SOME kind of treasure hunter attribute that is hidden.
My reasons for the precceding claim:
1. A ranger freind of mine has killed it 64+ times. He has thf sub. He has gotten pin 64 times.
2. Ninja friend has killed it 50+ times. Had ranger sub. Got pin 49 times.
3. I(lvl66 whm) has killed it 11 times. I have had ranger sub for 9 fights, theif for 2 fights. I have had 0 drops.
Also, i belive Square-Enix knows that Rangers and Ninjas needs fast money just to be able to EXP. That is why there is a chance they are given a passive hidden ability to increase drop rates in order to finace their EXP.
That is my theory on this NM, and how can ninjas and rangers kill it often to get the drop.

Well Atm im lvl 50 Mithra Thf/War and ive gotta say this one's a challenge. Everyone's Camping this most of the time and that makes it at least 10 times harder. Spawn time is Kinda ridiculous but i guess thats the way it goes and if you dont have Rng Sub or Main then your going to need to work very hard on this... I spent like 4 hours One day Thf/War and no luck. I spent 1 hour another Thf/Rng and Got it. Hehe usually Rng is essential but in my case i did use the heck outta wide scan but when i got it the thing actually spawned in my view while i was resting this was me---> 8O I didnt even have to move the camera lol... Spawn clear straight in my path. And im not selling it either.. I agree with with whoever it was that said this thing was priceless. IT is!.. If you can keep anything equipped until a very high level and you can start wearing it at lvl 24 then thats definately worth the frustration.

If anyonne on Levathian is willing to help me get a hairpin for 120k please let Akyazi know. This is the last item i need for my DRG for a while and the only way i see me getting partys down the Road. I would camp him but i dont think a lvl 30rdm/7 ranger would kill him :-( Please if anyone will help plase let me know. Thanks

I saw him spawn on the beach, which isn't inside the circle on the map here.
word on the street it that this NM can be charmed... please tell me if this is true or not
Here is some info: if you are 30+ melee class you can solo him so dont let the high levels tell ya any difference and if you can get a partner even better just remeber to get a bunch of hi potions they will give you about 100 hp per potion and if you look at the picture it will give you a hint on where to find him. also if there are any gobs near by clear em out if you can even if they dont attack you when you are fighting the normal flies they will link when you fight the emperor. if you have a couple friends you can spred out along the beach only one of you has to get argo then the rest can join you in no time. just remeber if you get in trouble no one will help you so get together with some friends and camp that fly:)
ok, I've seen the Emperor twice, missed getting him once ( I play between JP/NA hours but the JP campers have a fairly massive advantage). I was wondering can someone DEFINITIVELY tell me the spawn time on this? No speculation, does he spawn between 1 and 3 hours or has it been lengthened like people seem to THINK but not know. If it has been lengthened, whats the time now? I generally cut through the placeholders as fast as poss anyway so I'm looking for a minimum return time after missing him, before I should bother spamming widescan again.
After so many hours and days I can finally add my hairpin story to the tally. I had probably camped it for maybe 10-15 hours over a period of a couple months with only one claim to my name, and no drop. I was so sad and frustrated because every time I went there was tons of people and even with widescan spam every 5 seconds somebody always nabbed it seconds after it popped.
I was levelling a whm sub in dunes and our backup voker died twice from screwdriver, due to the main tank not voking when he should have. I felt so bad for the war that I agreed to help him get his subjob items. He brought along a friend, so we nabbed two worms, an apron, and then waited til night for ghouls. I kept slaughtering flies in the hopes he would pop while we were there. Weirdly, nobody else was even there camping it.
Maybe another 20 minutes passed and a Japanese AF whm showed up. On my next scan I saw two new names... fire elementals wtf?! I fleed over and saw the whm killing one. I took the other and joked to him how fast the fire weather passed. He gave me a "I don't know how to answer that", so I did a ^^ and kept killing.
Maybe another 15 minutes passed and the JPN whm asked me if I was camping hairpin. I said yes and that I was getting subjob items too. He offered to help with both tasks it seems, so I agreed and invited him. I killed one ghoul, no skull, and was running and then I saw it.

I fleed and ran like hell to where it was, and I saw another guy running, aparently another camper or two had arrived without my notice. I franctically ran in an S pattern to make sure I didn't miss it and then I saw it. Ran right into its face and stole from it to claim.
I immediately went berserk and shouting "OH PLS GOD" and the like. The JPN whm was killing a ghoul within eye view of me and he said "no drop" to which I replied "EMPRORPRRPR!!!!". I finished it off with a 250% cyclone and what did I see?

Look listen carefully. The spawn time for Emp hairpin varries from 1hr, 1hr30mins, 2hour. The fastest way to make it spawn is by killing all the place holders ASAP. I use widescan to track down all the damselfly and immediately kill it, or see others doing it. When ever people say high levels. Don't get intimidated. As a lot of people always examining me cuz I sub NIN/RNG, or NIN/THF (I use NIN because my AF shoes gives me 25% faster movement at night. Helps a lot.) I never really use THF as main or RNG as main. I've gotten the emp pin 10/13 times with either SJ's its not really the THF that's getting the drops. Also if you wanna be a fast, and beat the JP its pretty hard but it's possible. Do no forget that JPN is 1.2sec faster by time for they see the NM spawn 1.2sec before it even appears in our view. WHY because the servers location and the lag that causes the bandwith. So to be quick. If your subbing THF you can have steal as macroed STEAL>PROVOKE, also subbing BST CHARM>STEAL>VOKE

This enables it to target the closest mob and initiate Job ability. So you gotta be quick. Always either use widescan, or keep running around that's the only way you can spot the NM. If you see high level RNG's out camping EMP either have a fast way of transportation I.E Ninja Kyana, Choco, or Strider boots, or FLee. Cuz ones they spot that NM pop its the race to the fastest.
Also if this mob seemed to start getting boring camping there is a low level NM that drops a nice peice of item. Called "Monster Signa" BRDS love this and so do BST and in my server asura its at 300k. Its located in Giddieus. Find the map for it i won't explain. Also Deggi that drops Ochido's Kote 400k in my server located in Castle Oztroja. Remeber be fast be quick. Theres also Stropper Chymes in Orderlles Cave its not a NM its a jelly pops every 10mins of spawn drops a rare item called Archers ring, 220k easy, also needed to make Sniper rings. So have fun GL hope this works.

ERM sorry also if your not a Melee E.I WHM, RDM, BRD. you can also use spells such as HOLY, or fast casting spells just SPAM it.. KEEP spamming it my hot key is CTRL+1 for the macro and I just spam it. If i aggro anything its a place holder for me so I end up killing. and SPAM again. Some people cheat though if you have notices some just VOKE's the NM right of the bat there is also a 3rd party program called AutoVOKE. Usualy I aggro a weak mob and run around with it and whoever has it on will voke my lil ol mob. All you gotta do is aggro it Attack it disengaged it will return back as unaggroed but it will keep following you. Good way to distract high levels specialy if you know the NM is gonna spawn soon. ^^
