General InformationLottery spawn of the Damselflies that spawn from (D-8) through (F-8) in Valkurm Dunes PH Info from SmokesalotThe PH is the mob the prevents the NM from spawning until it is killed. In the case of the Valkurm Emperor, it is one of the Damselflies that roams about Whitesands beach in Valkurm Dunes. What a kagillion people refuse to take into their minds is that VE has ONE placeholder, and that's it. Go to the beach with Widescan ability, and position yourself at the peak of the sandhill just northwest of the pack of trees in the middle of the beach. Pull up WS, and you'll see something like this. Damselfly Goblin Mugger Goblin Leecher Goblin Gambler Sniper Sniper Sniper Sniper Damselfly<~~~~~PH!!! This is a truncated list, but as you can see the PH is located in the set of four Damselflies between the leeches and the snipers, and is always the top one. These flies are always grouped in four, and are always located between the snipers and the thread leeches. When VE pops your list will look like this... Sniper Sniper Sniper Damselfly Damselfly Damselfly Valkurm Emperor Thread Leech Thread Leech Thread Leech Thread Leech VE always pops on the bottom of the list. If there aren't four flies in the list, that means someone else is killing them. Either nearby parties, or other campers. If this is happening, you have to figure out a way to nab yourself the PH, and be 100% sure that the fly you kill is the PH. After that, go ahead and let the other campers waste their time killing the other flies. Valkurm Emperor Special Attacks

You should update the spawn area. Found him once in SE part of the beach and the other time NW of the beach near the ridge. The circle on the map is way too small....

Also confirmed SE spawn point. Right on the line of F-8/9.

Yep, confirmed it today. Saw it spawn right on the border of D/E-8. Glad nobody else knows about this spawn point on my server. Everyone else was camping the trees! So it might be a good idea to send someone from your party to check this spot out every so often.

Camped it for 3 days and the last time i did, it spawned right on top of me tried to use dia and a WAR provoked it >.< SO UNFAIR!!! and i wanted that hairpin to wear >.<

Well, camped the hairpin today and have a funny story to tell. a jp thf/bst was also camping it near me (lvl 45 rng/thf), and it spawned right on top of him >.< then i realized that he was getting beaten :D he used charm on a leech and sicked him on the emp and ran. after the emp kills the leech, it heads off to the guy. just a little ways away i see him healing out in the open, instead of running like hell to selbina lol. well then he uses perfect dodge and starts making a mad dash to selbina. needless to say he was too far out and it killed him far from the zone. i used an eagle eye shot and killed it with one hit and got the drop :D i even /bow to the now dead guy too :p not bad earning 290k in under 2 hours^^

Treasure Hunter doesn't effect rare drops? LoL I must be one lucky SOB then :) Every NM I have killed with my 46 thf/ranger I have got the drop. I have only camped the NM I want the item to wear this, lizzy, ranger bow in giddeus each one as my 45+ thf, got the drop first time I killed it. My only problem was getting the spawn before the other campers. Treasure Hunter II is nice :)

See my post under 'Leaping Lizzy'. Same applies here with this NM. If you don't have a RNG sub, be prepared to spend A LOT of time. >_<

My opinion is that you are all lil babies. If it was easy to get a rare item or 300k then wat is the fun in playing FFxi n going to kill an monster that you know is gonna be there and that you know is gonna drop. People make it hard to get for a reason.

Let me tell u guyz a story about how i got my hairpin. well i been camping for hairpin for about 4 days. It never pays off because most of tha japan players have THF/RNG so they can see atleast 4 times father as me. I got so mad one day and went to do ranger quest i come back tha next day camped for about 6 hours... they had 3 spawns and i got one of them... no drop... tha second one... me and a japanese gurl with THF/RNG 45/1 lolz was racing for it for our lives... i lagged right when i got close to emperor and she takes my NM and She also get a hairpin =/ thinking to myself... that could have been mine! ok so i come back 2 hours later still lagging every 10 seconds... not exagerating at all... anyway when i came back there was a party of 4 camping 4 spots of tha 6 spawn area's then there was two other guyz camping tha 5th =/ so i thought to myself why tha hell am i here when im lagging like crazy and its 1vs7 =/ do know what made me stay but 30 mins later i saw a fly and it look like it had 2 words for a name... so i went up closer... this seem like it was going in slow motion lol but i came closer and it was Valkurm Emperor OMG! i threw my dart at him then once i hit enter i notice there was 2 flys =( they linked on my *** and here comes tha other team sworming around like vultures waiting for me to die and take it lolz i was getting my *** kicked and laggin at tha same time... i called for help and lucky thing my friend was on tha other team ^^ he helped my out =/ but i think he would have let me die if i didnt say anything... well so i was down to 100hp by then... lag came again when i was about to do weapon skill... i finally pulled it off with 50 hp lolz and i got hairpin FINALY.. 2 weeks of off and on campin is not worth 300k but it is worth all tha joy that it brings u... im keeping this hairpin for memorys lolz!!! funnie thing is i did not even use my ranger to get him... i concider myself tha luckiest man alive right now ^^ do u know tha odd's of 2 droping in a row? ^^

The Emperor Hairpin is on my list of items I need/want for my Drg..as well as Leaping Boots-> funny story...I camped lizzy w/ a ranger last night for about 1.5hrs, spawn rate is 1hr or less....was there earlier watching spawn time..anyways..we are the only ones really there....she's scanning I'm killing tring to get the spawn...NOTHING...I've seen her spawn 2x in 30min...and not once for me....all I could do was laugh^^...as far as the Hairpin Goes...I've heard it's overcamped by JPs....seems to be that way on anyserver...what S/E NEEDS to do is give a better economy that doesn't involve soooo much crafting (being it takes AGES to raise skillz, depending on race...it seems to me..prob wrong..) or hunting NM because you will usually lose to a JP if they are there...I mean...the time dif between JP/GLobal release did give them TONS of exp over us....in time we may be able to kick their *** as well as they do ours in nm hunting...but I will still camp...even if it means losing....gives me something semi-fun to do when lvling gets boring...

I honestly got really frustrate dthe other day. My BF and I were camping the emperor for about an hour to two hours. I am a poor mage and need gil. There is this Japanese player that is always there- no matter what. He had already beat us to the emperor and got the pin twice (he had burst run with thief). But the thing is- if you already got it--nonetheless--TWICE-give some other people a chance. Especially when **** see this 1 second before we do- and sometimes NM claim spawn on our side. It seriously makes me mad---and not a good out look for me as far as *** players go. You have the nice ones (high level who will help), and then the absolute greedy ones--who after they see nm and get the drops-- they come back 5 more times.

Ya exactly, ive camped Huu Mjuu The Torrent and this greedy f**ck killed huu mjuu and git the signa 3 times he put it in his bazaar and almost everytime he got it -_-, and i was like t(-_-t)

Hello all of you people who are like "Stupid fly wont give me the hairpirn" wanna hear a funny stupid story?...I'm gonna tell you anyway. Me and a few of my friends were hunting it together and after like 4 hours we finaly find the stupid thing, kill it ad "WOW" we get emp. hair pin!!! so we are all like omg omg omg lets sell it, not thinking I teleport us out of the area with out putting a bid on it and what happens I LOSE IT!!! so this is just a reminder to all of you WHM out there looking for the hair pin MAKE SURE YOU GET IT IN SOMEONES INVENTORY before teleporting out ARG i can still kill myself for what I did.... anyway take care you all (^_^)v

My favorite is when high lvl people just stand there doing nothing at all (letting you do all the gruntwork)while you are killing every fly you see trying to get it (VE) to spawn...then when it DOES spawn, BAM! They are there to kill it while you're in the middle of killing another fly.

So I'm leveling up my white mage in the Dunes looking for a skull. My party begins fighting a ghoul when I notice a fly way off in the distance (couldn't see name...just barely on screen). Get done with the ghoul (no drop of course) when suddenly the fly starts beating us up. 5 dead and 1 gets to Selbina barely. If I wanted to find the Emperor again, I couldn't. It actually spawned a little bit east of the circled area on the map above (closer to the G-8/F-8 gridline) on the Diablos server. However, it decided to float to the circled region immediately just to kill us I'm sure.

6 times and counting now and everytime he drops an insect wing. i get so excited when i actually make it to the emp before the tens of campers get to him. then all he does is drop a damn insect wing. is there a certain day he drops this? is there no pattern?. i do not have thief treasure hunter skill but as much as it helps i've seen too many ppl that have attained this item without a theif subjob or main job. is anyone feeling the same anxiety from this as i am
