short story

I was in beadeaux just farming quad helms when i happen by the area this NM spawns. I didnt know what spawned here but every time i come through i see at least one person camping here. This time, as i was running through, i noticed there was noone around so i logged off quickly and checked the NM's in this area. Sure enough there were two NM's spawnable in the general vacinity i was in. Judging by the drops i was hoping for the other NM but the this one would do just fine. I start off by exterminating the life around the area and start my long wait...

I started by standing on top of one of the chambers where i thought the blm NM spawned. Sure enough, the first time i fall down to check if the other NM was up someone was killing it -.-

Frustrated I went back up to where i was and guess what.... someone was killing the blm NM >.<

Just my luck.

Even more frustrated, I took out my rage on the wildlife again and decided to try to camp them to see the respawn times and to try again. About an hour of killing the Zinc and Bronze quads on top as soon as they popped i proceeded to kill some fish to pass the time. Just after i killed the second one i looked up on the ledge to see Mr. Zo'Khu staring down at me. Heart pounding I hit the Flash macro and claimed him ^^ After a short battle where he posed no challenge i got a shield drop ^^

I then proceeded to continute my camping in hope of a claim of the other NM.

During the next hour i decided to just stay on the bottom level as to claim the whm NM when he popped. Yet another hour later of just killing wildlife I ran back ontop of the chamber to see if the blm NM had popped again... as usual, just a Zinc quad. After killing that quad i decided to take a short break for bathroom and food. Once i got back to my computer not 2 minutes later i ran down to the lower level and guess what.... the whm NM was claimed -.- figures.

After congratulating but secretly despising the person who claimed it i ran back on top of the chamber and saw good ol' Zo'Khu again. Heart pounding again I hit my Flash macro and claimed him a second time. This time i wasnt so lucky and only got a hat.

In conclusion, I believe the repop time of Zo'Khu is from 1-2 hours and the whm NM is somwhere around 3 hours. (i believe you need to kill Old quads to spawn the whm NM but that is just a guess)

I hope this story has been somewhat helpful to you and i wish you good luck on your NM hunting! ^^

Today I was doing the quest for the map to Rangumont Pass when I walk by this guy. I had no idea what the drop was but I figured that there was nothing in the area that I couldn't handle so targeted it and let loose with my berserk macro. /sigh Well someone that may or may not have been camping it then got claim. Later I found out that the shield sells for 400k.

This NM spawn every 2 hrs. But u have to kill the zinc quadav to make it spawn after the 2 hrs regulation waiting time.

Happy hunting ^^

I was going through Beadeaux to do G3, just came through mute mind you. Then I happen to come across Blackcloud, I quickly check here and see that he is 38, no mach for my red mage, but i was silenced so i start to fight him and he was half dead then he used manafront hit me with thundaga for 200, now i have 200 hp left and thought i was gonna die. I used convert and went back up to 800hp. killed him and got the hat. Next time i come through here im bringing echo drops

Okay Got a story about this guy =P

I was camping both Ge'Dha and Zo'Khu one night, after exping and getting to level 62, but not enough to get a buffer. Anyways, I tag Ge'Dha, get drop as always, and am ready to go get Zo'Khu. Well, after getting multiple links and mass killing Quadavs, I have about 500 hp left. Knowing my HP, I go a rest. But you know it just doesnt end like that...

Zo'Khu spawns a little ways from me looking the other way. Okay, he spawned, I need to rest or he just might kill me. Out of the corner of my screen, I see a 61 Nin run out of nowhere, heading toward -my- Zo'Khu. "Oh sh..." I think, so I get up and voke him with 523 hp. Okay I got claim... now what? I begin fighting, and he's missing me a lot (He should.. Im friggin 22 levels higher..) but then a Bronze and a Silver Quadav link... Nothing is as easy as it looks at first glimpse.. SE is really out to get me.

I pop mighty strikes, every offensive JA I had, and just went to work, doing a 1600 Raging Rush that finally sent Zo'Khu *shieldless* to the ground. I got the shield.. I'm 1/4 on him. Problem: My hp is now 135, with two other Quadavs on me. I was one hit away from another Raging Rush, which managed to take out the Bronze Quadav easily. used my -last- Blood Bolt on the Silver Quadav, which bought me some time. Killed the Silver Quadav with 107 hp left.. but I realized it was still dropping.

Apparently, Zo'Khu stuck a BIO II before he died gracefully under my Heavy Darksteel.. and my hp was dropping fast. I managed to use a scroll of warp, and run inside of Jeuno MH with 27 hp to spare. =X

Atleast i got the drop, and still lived.. Bwahah.. XD

heh, after a RNG stole Ga'Bhu, I went hunting for this guy and Ge'Dha at the same time...Ge'Dha spawned before Zo'Khu (I was only one in the area, killing all quadav's). Real easy fight as a 57smn/thf, no shield though...only Marine Hat. Ah well, will try again sometime...

Anyone kno the spawn time of this dude? i'm guessing 2hour lotto like everything else? (Help me out!)
Yes he can be silenced
# Dec 06 2004 at 2:48 PM Rating: Decent
Ummm...this guy can be silenced by a RDM, I didn't even have all of my mind gear on. Elemental Seal ---> Silence with capped enfeebling at level 54 worked for me.
BTW BLM's have C+ enfeebling so you will have a hard time. He maybe got off one firaga, before another RDM and I shut him up.
#Leb, Posted: Jan 31 2005 at 9:45 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Elemental Seal Silence wont work it only works with black magic (drown aspir drain etc..)

You are so wrong, Elemental Seal can be used on any spell with an elemental property. Silence is wind based and I guarantee Elemental Seal works with Silence.

Try actually enfeebling instead of meleeing like a gimp red mage.

Heh, agreed. Zo'Khu can get silenced... I solo'ed him as 41RDM/20THF, and Silence landed every time (No BLM sub, so no Elemental Seal required). Otherwise I would've probably been toast. And I was decked out in all my RDM gear, but the fight was seriously pretty crazy.

I pulled him down to the bottom (as at 41 I still aggroed the Quadav's up top), and just got super careful not to get any links. I was fighting him in that little doorway for a little bit, hoping no Quadavs from up top would link somehow.

Drops: Level doesn't matter. A friend and I camped the 2 NMs here and we got the Phial 3 Consecutive times, yet no Shield from this guy despite him being a higher level.

Silence: He CAN be silenced as I've done it. He just has a relatively high resistance to it.

i'm gonna ask for it again: there was a link somewhere about drop rates, TH1/2/3/4 affects, and what factors influenced a drop...the ley points (as pertaining to this argument) was that yes, level did play a role... you take 6 people into a leveling pt and fight mobs 10 levels above you, and fights tend to have sevral (not including crystal) drops on a regular basis...but walk six lvl 65's into a fight with a crawler in west saruta and see what you get... prolly not much... at any rate, there are some drops which are pretty automatic (e.g. yes, the holy phial--i've gotten it literally 9/10) and may not be dictated by this general rule. butthe rule is just that: general. only thing about the argument below is that a pt of 6 lvl 38's fighting a lvl 38 is not going to have the best chance at a RARE drop... a pt of 30's however would be a more likely to have a better chance...BUT the reason i came to this site: DID THEY CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT THIS DUDE'S SPAWN TIME??? he used to be automatic, every hour--you could set your damn watch to him--and now i haven't seen him in 3 days....anyone know?
Blackcloud

Camped this guy yesterday with my 50 BLM. Killed 3 times, dropped shield on third try. I'm a taru and it was a tough fight. He likes to spam Firega but he does use Manafont early in the fight, so usually that's not an issue. For mages, I'd say 50 is the minimun to solo him, he took me down to around 50 HP each time, from 518. Also he won't engage you in melee until you do a bunch of damage, so i recommend enfeebling him as much as you can (skip silence, he's immune) the use a big attack, i used Freeze -> Manafont -> AerogaII-> CureIII-> AerogaII. That will kill him. I watched a 52 bard get slaughtered when i first got there by him, so classes that don't have big attacks be careful, he can do a lot of damage and has quite a bit of HP. Also try and pull him away from other quadovs, i had a Garnet Quadov use CureIII on him for one of the fights, I kill blackcloud but got owned by the garnet afterwards, so be careful.

There's a trick to NM drops.

Usually there are 2 drop types for each nm. A rare drop and a common drop. The common drop...in this case the marine hat, will almost always drop. The rare drop is like 5% influenced by certain factors.

First factor and the most important factor is your level, vs the NM's level. If your even conned with then nm, like he's around 38 and you use a 38th level job to take him down, number one your a damn good player and number 2 your more likely to get the rare drop. The high you go job wise, like to the point you get no exp from him, you will almost never get the rare drop. This is to discourage high level players from just rampaging through and getting all the good drops and encourage team and skill to get the goodies.

The 2nd factor is number of people. The more people you have the more chances you have of getting the rare drops. So you best bet is to use 6 level 38 jobs to take this NM out. Remember, even just 1 high lever job will ruin your chances as your drop ratio is taken from the highest member in your party.

I use to think this was hearsay until I started testing it out. Now, I get rare drops on almost every kill, but it takes teamwork and fight the NM when he's pretty much at your level, not when you ahundred levels above it and can squash it like a bug with just one shot....where's the challenge in that.

Rare drops to date:

1. Lantern Shield
2. Demonic Sword
3. Priest Robes
4. Martial Slacks 2x
5. Strike Bakhankahs
6. Braveheart x 2
7. Bird Whistle
8. Holy Phial
9. Bomb Ring
10. Cruel Scythe
11. Mist Silk Cape

Er...simply coincidence, I've camped VE with my LS, Hoo Mjuu with them and no drops, we were low levels at the time too and actually had to fight the NM and just just slaughter it. Recently at my level now while xp'ing in Gustav Tunnel my xp party of 56-59 ish fight Wyvernpoacher who drops Othinus Bow, the NM is 70-75 and hardly drops the bow. NMs drop rates do have factors, but beyond those factors its all based on luck. I've killed Morion Worm 2 times in a row with only TH1 and got the drop both times, I have friends who've killed it 12 times in a row with TH2, lucky egg and 4-leaf and no drops. Perhaps your theory is another one of the factors, but it doesn't make a big difference.

I'll second this speculatory statement. I camped blackcloud and evileye with a 44 whm friend (i was 52 thf at the time). We got both the Holy Phial and Faerie Shield drops on the first try. I haven't claimed Blackcloud while alone so ill add to my post once i do, but i've camped Spiny Spipi 6 times. The 1st time, i had just one inventory space open, and right when i killed spipi i got kicked off the server, and when i came back i had a silk in my inv. I dont know if the cape dropped or not as i didnt get to see the drop messages. the 2nd time i camped it with a friend, i was a lvl 11 thf and he was a 50 or so nin, we got the drop. the next 3 times i got no drop while camping it with my 50 thf, and the last i finally got the drop solo.
Ive solod both doppelgangers 3 times each, nothing but revival root, and bomb king twice, bomb ash both times, all solo. so i find that drops are much better in a party, no matter what lvl, but im sure its better with low lvls as well.

Well, I really dont know if this is true or not about the whole lvl realted drop thingy, but all i do know is if you classed some drops as "rare", I suggest you take out the Holy Phial. I am a lvl 57whm hunting Evileye, and I have gotten the drop twice in a row b4, along with about 5 otehr times. Either I have great luck or what you say dont apply the phial. I dont know, but I got it many times and the NM is only lvl 30. But, dunno about any other drop.

How do you know when a NM will spawn? I know some of them have placeholder monsters, but do all of them?

The hat sells for about 5-6k on my server. Not exactly bank-breaking, but still worth auctioning off.
