Taurus Picture

Special attack: Mortal Ray. This attack is a 10 second Doom. There is some chance that holy water can prevent death. But this is a very slim chance. You can avoid this attack by turning around.

If you are looking at this mob I'm guessing that you are trying to solo a codex, like I was for five hours this evening:

These are MNK mobs, so they hit quite fast and conter ~10% of the time.

The drop rate for codex is supposedly ~5%, I have been here five hours WITH TH and killed about 40 of these, with no drop.

I went NIN/THF, and loaded up on evasion. They will miss in this case 60% of the time.

They take about 2~3 minutes to kill, quicker if you use elemental ninjutsu, which they are very weak to.

I used Blade: Retsu for a strong Paralyze effect that procs more than 50% of the time on these.

Mortal Ray is easy to avoid IF YOU CONSTANTLY PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR LOG WINDOW. Make sure that you turn off autotarget so that if it redies MR you can turn away immediately.

His other tp moves are Mow, which attempts a 12pt/tick poison, and a triple attack. Also Unblessed armour, which is Shell.

Note that they hit me for between 40~60 points of damage.

Hope this helps.

i know sum1 just said this in one of the earlier posts buttttttt ------>it also drops Spruce Lumber, Ra/Ex used in a quest i suppose lol

Mortal Ray - Doom (cure with Cursna or Holy Water, they may fail the first time, so recast/reuse until it cures it)

if u turn around, it wont affect ypu because its a gaze attack so for it to work you have to be facing it, be quick though, u dont have much time to turn around as son as he readies it though

the reasons I left was the sheer repetitiveness. Every time I turn around, I see a monster with a different name, but its one I've seen 30million times already.

I've played dozens of RPGs, FF IV, VI, VII, VIII, X, XI, Everquest, Chrono Trigger, Earth Bound, Legend of Gia (though that might be more of an action), The Entire Breath of Fire series and some that don't stick to memory all that well, and they reuse models in each and every game. Though, Earth Bound didn't do it that much as I remember.

And it's not a point about lazyness. They have people who's sole job is to design monsters. It's a matter of what the hardware can handle. For every model it takes more time for the computer to load it and takes more space on your hard drive. Now some people have the 200 GB HD and the 3 gigs of RAM and the Top of the line Video card and processor, but not everyone has that, and so not everyone can use a game that has as many different mobs as FFXI with individual models for them.

Also the fact that this game is also on the PS2, the programmers need to take into consideration they're PS2 owning customers. The PS2 was designed years ago, and even if the computer that we have now-a-days might be able to handle that range of Models, doesn't mean that the PS2 could.

Tauruses drop Dark Crystals and Taurus Horns.

The horns go for 5k on Lakshmi.

Mow - AoE Poison (cure with Poisona or Antidote)

Frightful Roar - AoE Defense Down (cure with Erase)

Unblest Armor - Shell (dispel/finale)

Mortal Ray - Doom (cure with Cursna or Holy Water, they may fail the first time, so recast/reuse until it cures it)

Obviously you never played Everquest. Same repitition only with generic fantasy monsters.
Final Fantasy XI 12-14-11 Update wrote:
Adjust the resolution of menus.
The main screen resolution for "FINAL FANTASY XI" is dependent on the "Overlay Graphics Resolution" setting.
If the Overlay Graphics Resolution is set higher than the Menu Resolution, menus will be automatically resized.

I thought of it first:

Sure, it's a creepy mob, the only problem is, when you see it 4 or 5 times on the same level, it gets lame. I loved playing FFXI, I really did, but one of the reasons I left was the sheer repetitiveness. Every time I turn around, I see a monster with a different name, but its one I've seen 30million times already. Basically, what I'm saying, is for that $14 a month fee, you'd think SE would try to be more original with their monster designs. They seem to be gettign so lazy that they're altering character files to create new 'shadows', why not just create NEW cretures, instead of altering old ones and making them bigger, heck, even DIFFERENT COLORS would be good....anyway, sorry for te rant...just a bit annoyed atm.

Hands down, the creepiest (i.e. coolest) looking mob I've ever seen. And I used to think the evil dog models looked wicked... I've got to see this first hand... >.<
