Wreaker Picture

Uses AE Sleep, Curse and Blind. Also uses an AE damage attack. When low on HP, he frequently uses "Trinary Tap", which will absorb three status effects. If you do not have three status effects, he will absorb an absurd amount of HP.

OK, my pt did very well on this, we were murdering it and taking next to no damage. However...
It did NOT use Trinity Attack once, and for some reason it would not take damage after it reached about 15% health. We used everything we had, and even tho it said damage was taken it's hp never lowered, and we had no filters on so we know what it was using. This thing is going to make me regret I bought this stupid expansion...which so far has done nothing but waste my time/gil
How to win against Wreaker
# Mar 11 2005 at 8:38 AM Rating: Decent
I read a lot about people failing this fight and thinking this fight is the toughest one of all Promyvions from the CoP chapter 1. Also most people think some jobs are a must for the boss fight as well as some special items.

In fact you can win the boss fight with any jobs as long as you time the anima usage correctly and fight organized. Of course having some jobs like smn and rng makes the fight much easier. Here is what my party did to win the battle.

The party consisted of:
WHM/RDM (me),
THF/NIN (SA DD),
WAR/NIN (tank, DD + 2hrs),
RNG/NIN (wide scan + 2hrs),
SMN/WHM (2hrs),
SMN/WHM (2hrs).

We used 3 Hyteroanimas and 3 Psychoanimas (I had also 1 Terroranima but couldn't use it due to the boss dying too quickly). Due to the fact that animas stack, you can totally neutrolize the boss. Also everyone used 2 poison potions and the tank used 1 Hi-potion.
Our strategy:
1) enter the BC,
2) WHM casts Protectra II and Shellra and Stoneskin. Don't listen do people who say don't buff. There're 2 reasons why you should use food and buffs. First, if Wreaker uses his Trinity Absorb attack and the attacked person does not have any buffs, the attack will drow lots of HP and the attacked person might die. 2nd and most important, when you time the anima usage correctly, Wreaker will have no chance of use any special attacks at all.
3) One SMN calls Garuda and uses Areal Armor (I hope i spelled it right). It gives everyone Blink buff. WAR, THF and RNG cast utsumei.
4) Everyone uses food, mages MP regen drinks. When MP full, everyone uses a poison potion.
5) WAR uses a Psychoanima, THF uses a Hysteroanima.
6) WAR 2hrs and take the mob near to 75% of its HP. THF SA on it always when possible.
7) By the time the anima effect wears off, the mob will be around 75% of its health. Now WAR uses a Hysteroanima and THF a Psychoanima. The boss is neutralized again. Just standing here, doing nothing except taking hits from us.
8) 1st SMN 2hrs with Shiva. Wreaker's element is wind. So use Shiva. it's weak against ice.
9) After the 2hrs of the 1st SMN (he did only 1 Astral Flow), Wreaker will be at around 50% of its health. The WAR and RNG should have over 100TP by this time. WAR and RNG skillchained and the 2nd SMN MB with Shiva (sorry don't remember what SC they did).
10) The anima effect will wear off again at this point as well as the poison potion or a bit earlier. Now WHM (me) uses a Hysteroanima and a Psychoanima. Wreaker still standing still and watching itself dying slowly. Everyone uses the 2nd poison potion.
11) The 2nd SMN 2hrs.
12) RNG 2hrs and the boss is dead.

We won by 4mins and few seconds and were close by few seconds to the record on Unicorn. We lost more than 1min at start while resting for full MP. Personally I think you can beat Wreaker in less than 2mins when having a "special party" configuration. The tank was only in yellow at start when our THF was too slow to use his anima. The 1st SMN took 1 hit too 'cause the anima effect wears off. No one else took a single hit from Wreaker. I've used few Cure II spells on the tank to get him to full HP, he used also 1 Hi-potions. Wreaker was not able to use ANY special attack on us due to the well timed anima usage.

So the key to win this fight easily:
1) bring enough animas with you and time them correctly.
2) have at least 1 smn and 1 rng. Any other jobs are fine too, but the fight won't be that easy anymore.

INFO:
1. A Hysteroanima neutralizes all special attacks of the boss.
2. A Psychoanima neutralizes all physical attacks of the boss.
3. A Terroranima neutralizes all physical and special attacks, however the boss will be afraid of you and will try to run away. So you might have problems to hit it. SMN's 2hrs might miss, melee will have trouble to land a hit too because they will have to run after the boss and it will continue to run away till the anima effect wears off. So if you cannot bind the boss, use a Terroranima in emergency e.g. after Benediction or if someone close to die. Anyway if your party knows what they do, this will never be the case also no need for whm's 2hrs.

I hope this post will help some of you.

P.S.: Lufaise Meadows and Misareaux Coast are very beautiful :)

I have only fought this guy once and yes we did fail but our WHM died otw to the BCNM and we had him down to about 3 hits until death before he killed our final member.
my party setup was:
WAR/NIN
RNG/NIN
RNG/NIN
SMN/WHM
MNK/WAR
WHM/BLM

we all used a poison potion before entering the fight because of his crappy AOE sleep. we had 3 of each anima. one person uses an anima so he's unable to do his special attack and once we see him starting to use his special attack then it wore so the second person used it, and same with the third. our downfall was we forgot to re-poison ourselves so we were all asleep for quite awhile while he started hitting us hard. the whole time our SMN was healing but he managed to get ifrit's inferno off once. all in all it didn't seem like too hard of a fight and i'm looking forward to takin him out next time =D
F*ck the wreaker

Umm i have tried this 2 times and failed both, on both of them we had an uber setup:
WHM/BLM
RNG/NIN
RNG/NIN
SMN/WHM
SMN/RDM
PLD/WAR
we went in and the pld goes and vokes for hate first, he gets hit a few times, hes already dead withing the first 10 seconds, then the ******* goes on a rng so i 2hred and fired an inferno (im a smn) then its at about 1/2 hp with a pld that was just raised and a dead rng. Everyone now used thier animas and attempted to kill it, as we shouted to our pld to 2hr he just sat there with 10 hp and did shi*. He died instantly again and then can the whm for healing him, (everyones 2hred already). Now im the only one left and i use inferno (3rd time) and it whacks me right b4 ifrit blew up! btw: in the begining, our whm started casting regen on our pld instead of curing him (what a dumb fu*k). someone please tell me what im doing wrong here!!!

Our group beat this guy on our first try,(this is my first promy ever so I guess that counts for something...) this was our pt setup:

WAR/NIN
BLM/WHM
RNG/NIN
RNG/NIN
DRG/BLM
WHM/BLM (me)

WE had like 5 anima's so that probably helped a bit. Poison potions are a must, the tank absoulutly will need hi-potions and maybe a couple X-potions. WHM needs to use almost nothing but Cure II because this guy hits HARD. The tank run's around in a circle and people just deal damage until it got to half life, then we used our anima's and then when it got to 1/4 HP the 2 RNG's used EES and then the BLM killed the remaining sliver of life. It was actually pretty easy.

heheh ive done this guy like 5 times so far...still no luck :\ i go as a war/mnk or drk/war.....went once as a drk/war...seemed to work better when i did that because of my balance rings and dex stuff..but as a war we got smoked...

we almost killed it when i was a drk/war..the party setup was
DRK/WAR(me)
PLD/WAR
BLM/WHM
WHM/BLM
SMN/WHM
RDM/WHM

Just did this BCNM, 3rd time lucky :)
Party was:
War/nin (Me)
War/nin (Bladepac)
Smn/whm (Ming)
Rng/nin (Jammey)
Rng/nin (Jotaru)
Whm/blm (Janeash)
We our third attempt was instantly almost instantly after our 2nd attempt, which went horrobly wrong. So for this attempt we only had 1 psychoanima instead of the 3 we started with. When we went into the battle we all took poison potions to prevent sleep, and janeash cast baraera, barsleepra and shell. The buffs made sure the Wreaker didn't absorb any hp only compleatly useless buffs. When the batte started we took up possitions around the arena with me and bladepac in the middle (ty to aramaru for that idea ^^) me and bladepac ran in and started to melee alternating hate to keep Utsusemi up, we also used the psychoanima straight away. The mob strayed towards the rng quite often as they were doing alot of damage but we were able to voke it back quite quickly. When the mob got to about 3/4 health Ming 2hr with shiva and landed Diamond Dust. At this time the mob used its absorb move, when it did one of the rng ran in and used a Hysteroamina to prevent it using a tp attack again then Janeash ran in and cast baraera, barsleepra and shellra again to protect us. At about 1/2 to 1/4 the rest of us appart from jane hit our 2hr and proceeded to murder the Weaper both Jammey and Jotaru landed their Eagle Eye Shot's, Shiva hit with Diamond Dust again and me and Bladepac got off a Raging axe when under Mighty Strikes. Only had to use 1 Hi-Potion during this fight, which was nice.

Just to prove this strat works:

Thanks very much for the info, helped quite a bit in getting through this fight.

I did want to pass along some key things I learned doing Holla, which is the only one that required more than one attempt (3 total).

I highly suggest that you have several Hysteroanimas on hand when you do this one. The battle itself looks to be going very well until it gets to about 30% when it really starts spamming it's special attacks.

The Wreaker can drain your status effects and get all the benefits/detriments from them. Because of this, on the last run we didn't buff other than food and potions. No regen, protect, blink, stoneskin, etc. Since it will also pull effects like Poison, make sure you have multiple potions. The advantage in this is that if it does pull this effect from you, it ends up poisoning itself.

Save 2 hours and major nuking for when it gets below 40% and you start using the animas. If you do it right, you may not even need them, and if you do it will be a quick end.

The importance of the anima is as it's HP gets lower, it starts spamming it's AOE and drain attacks constantly. The first two times we attempted it, we got it to with 15%, and couldn't get it past that point.

So no buffs, keep yourself poisoned, and wait until it gets below 40% before you start throwing the kitchen sink at it. And farm Animas before you do the mission. We did it with 2-3 members on the first floor, got 3 recollections of Pain and a couple others in about 30 minutes. Paid off big time in the last battle.

Just beat this guy after several attempts, and even managed to do it with minimal items and 2-hour usage!

WAR/NIN (Elvaan)
WAR/NIN (Hume)
WHM/BLM (Tarutaru) [Me!]
BLM/RDM (Mithra)
SMN/WHM (Galka)
SMN/WHM (Hume)

We reached the Spire with an Alliance of mostly LS members, with others picked up from Jeuno. About half of us had Animas, we brought supplies and were aware of how it steals buffs and thus eating food or having Protect and such up is a bad idea. I won't detail anything but the winning battle below, however..

Both Warriors use Utsusemi, and our Elvaan runs up first to establish some hate. Mages spread out and take each compass direction in the arena, with the Warriors fighting the Empty in the center. This is so that if the Wreaker moves to the side too much, it's AoE won't nail anyone but the melee.. and if it DOES hit anyone, it will only be one mage and not all of us. BLM tosses a few enfeebles, of which only Paralyze tends to stick for very long.

Since we'd lost this fight a few times before for various reasons, I make it clear to everyone.. only Cure I. No Cure II's. 3 or 4 people casting Cure I = same amount, or more, HP recovery then a single Cure II.. and much less hate. Our WARs make use of Hi-Potions when they get critical hit, and swap Provokes when Utsusemi is down. We also refrain from nuking or doing ANYTHING else which could cause unneccessary aggro.. basically, just whittling it down in a test of endurance. This takes a long time, but it proved to be very successful. When it hit about 50% HP, our Galka SMN used his anima to cause the Wreaker to be intimidated constantly. A few moments later, when it had worn off, both SMNs made use of their 2-hours (but not simultaneously) to get it's life down quite a bit.. about 450ish each from Shiva. I run out of MP because I had wasted my Yagudo Drink in the previous fight, and since I was poisoned I couldn't rest.. I try and hold off on Benediction, however, as the NM is down to it's last 10%.. our Elvaan Warrior engages her Mighty Strikes and it dies a moment later. During this fight, only three Hi-Potions were used (between both WARs), and only one Anima. I used mine but it didn't work since I was too far away ;;.

We completed the battle in 15 minutes. Far from the record of 3 minutes, but since half an hour is the time given to win.. it's the safest and clearest course of action if you cannot kill the NM within moments. Mages were never hit with AoE, and since we spread out in all four directions, the rare times when tanks would lose hate, it would be Provoked right back before causing any real harm. Finally, since SMNs did their 2-hours spaced apart, it meant that when the Wreaker did it's AoE Sleep/Curse, it didn't disable both Avatars at once (as that was a cause of death the second time I attempted this battle).

I hope this info helps those who have been frustrated, as I was, with this boss battle, and if you do find it useful, rate up is always welcome. ^^

Heres my story. We came in with a SMN, WHM, PLD (me) BLM and 2 RNGS. Taking our time we got to the 4th level. Well, one of the RNGrs decided to scout out for the Spire entrance....and some how manages to warp himself out with a warp scroll.... complete and utter bs. So there we were with 5 left. We still made it to the Spire and decided to try to fight this thing. It took us over 2 hrs to get there including 45 min for the 4th floor b/c if 5 ppl battles against a thinker in which i had to 2 hr.

In the BCNM we were doing great ABSOLUTELY great. We had this thing beat. Until the ranger 2hred and expectedly took hate. I knew this was going to happen so i prepared to voke....but we were all put to sleep. Bye-bye RNG. After that we had no real DDs so we were screwed. Yes, we all died. We got this guy with 100 hp of dieing....it was a SLIVER. very depressing but an excellent try with 5 people. But nowI know what it take and we will be back with 6 and we shall ban all warp scrolls.

a warp scroll....pathetic.

ok we just tried this guy at holla. Man hes tough... We had the folloing set up

Pld/War
Thf/Rng
Smn/Whm
Whm/blm
Rng/Nin
Drk/War

well this was an odd set up. Maybe next time ill try it and go as rng/nin. wasnt able to do enough dmg to it.
Well we faught it 2 times first we went in a pld used invisible but when it came 2 he had died when whm ran out of mp. so then we all zoned and 2 others died on the way out. After resting we went through again. This time we got it to about 20% life left before it killed us all.
dang, and i had such high hopes
# Dec 09 2004 at 10:48 PM Rating: Decent
dang, and i had such high hopes after beating Mea first try. well i'm gonna say that the four levels prior to the boss are harder here. the boss, not really harder, but different and we sort of messed up. one, keeping poison up on yourself is important. we definately would have beat it first try but none of us noticed when it absorbed our poison status, and then we were all asleep. it only had a sliver left.

party makeup (same as for Mea, beat that one first try)
war/nin
blm/whm
smn/whm
whm/smn
brd/whm
rng/nin

started the fight with poison and crap buffs that we didn't care if it stole. then we whittled away at it to get it down to 75%. then we realized that without good bard buffs on we weren't doing damage fast enough. so then we all pulled 2hrs at the same time, started throwing animas, and totaly went nuts on damage. almost instantly it was down to a sliver, which is when it absorbed our poison and then slept us. at that point, we were pretty much dead.

so... i'd say that having poison up to combat the sleep is critical. other than that, damage, damage, damage, and use anima when it's at very low health to help curb the AoE. pretty basic stuff. we're gonna end up having a different party makeup next time b/c some people got discouraged and don't want to do it again, but anyway, I'll post whatever happens when we win next time. hope that little tid-bit from my experience helps someone out there.
as I promised

alright, well we farmed for a day and took a break to beat Dem (so freaking easy, one party, no problems, didn't really even use food or anything), then it was off to Holla. the farming we'd done was for Recollections, and our party went in with everyone having one of each anima for the endboss. we took a second party of total randoms to get through the MRs faster. i think they actaully slowed us down, could not keep from getting agro to save their own lives. anyway, some basic strategy, find an MR, clear hazards (any mobs that might agro during MR fight). clear strays. then RNGs, BLMs, THFs, and SAMs distance attack MR, while melees voke pull strays and kill them as they spawn. lather, rinse, repeat. 4th floor, have the RNG go find the zone first, then come back to get everyone else. advoid agro and run like hell to the zone. don't stop for agro unless you find a realy good spot to stop and there's only one or two at the most at that point. otherwise zone them, and vokers make sure a WHM survives. you can alwasy go back and raise later that way.

anyway, on to the part that really matters, the endboss. this guy is pretty tough, unless you're well prepared, but being well prepared done'st take 100K in potions (i've heard some people use that much). oh right, party make-up:

war/nin
mnk/war
rng/nin
blm/whm
blm/whm
whm/smn

we each had all three animas for the end boss, which right from the start we used them one after anohter to keep it from attacking us (psycho-anima). it could still use it's TP attack though "Winds of Promyvian", but only twice as it only got XP from us hitting it. we all had poison potions on the whole time just in case. (keeping poison up is an absolute must, if your whole party gets caught without it and slept, you're basically SOL, it's very very difficult to recover from that). so we all went nuts on damage, and whittled it down to 50%. at that point everyone 2HR. At that point we'd used all our pyshoanima, so then we started using hystero. but with rng, mnk, and war 2hr. the second half went MUCH faster. it only got the chance to use trinary tap once, and only one person got caught without poison up (have poison potions macro'd and have a macro to call "Check your poison status". whenever one perons's poison runs out, do the call, so everyone else checks theirs).

the first half the fight is a breeze, even without anima. the second half gets tough, that's when he starts using his wicked AoE. the last 10% is freaking hard, that's when he'll try to spam cast trinary tap unless you can stop him (anima). so in order of importance:

1) keep poison up!!
2) have all the animas (the ra/ex ones, pyscho, hystero, and terro)
3) start the fight off easy, go all out after 50%, but make sure you have enough to carry through the end.

final notes: our war only used 1 potion, mnk maybe a couple at the most. i and the other blm used a watermelon and some melon juices, and i don't think i even used my hi-ether (i 2hr.d instead). rng used a mithkabob. whm used juices. we all had very good equipment though. mnk had full shade, war full kompf, rng full noct +1 and a genon earring (Bishop you are teh uber RNG). us mages all had nearly the best possible 30 gear. but this time the fight ended up being pretty easy actaully, and we even broke the time record, 6:08 was our final time, i can't remember what the old time was (but it was 6 something). I was pretty happy about that. So tavnazia is beautiful, i hope this info helps more adventurers reach it.

Hehe, after 7 tries and 6 loses my team has finally put this things face in the dirt it used to step in... I finally decided to not mess around and spent 130k in items, we used the same strategy that a fellow player in this forum used with bubble chocolate, hi-potions-yugado drinks, hi-ethers, no buffs and we made sure to bring a ranger along... I never had to use mighty strikes but the ranger did give in the final blow, now there is only 1 left to go dem....

P.S. hey Yunoh we finally got this bugga and now there is only 1 more left I hope you get yours done soon and see you in the new brand tiny little city of Vana'diel. ^^

Did this with a 3-PT alliance today with my linkshell BUER, which was extremely successful. Most of the Holla members made it for Dem, and 15 of the 18 alliance members were from my LS.

First PT:
WHM/BLM, RNG/NIN, PLD/WAR, SMN/WHM, BLM/WHM, BLM/WHM

Second PT:
BLM/WHM, RNG/NIN, WAR/NIN, WAR/NIN, SMN/WHM, WHM/BLM

Third PT (my Promyvion static):
THF/NIN, RNG/NIN, RNG/NIN, SMN/WHM, WAR/NIN, WHM/BLM

As you can see, all the PTs were very balanced and heavy on firepower. All runs were successful. The first party to enter the BC smashed the server record, and then my party proceeded to smash THAT record by over a minute and 30 seconds ^_~ Here's my party's strategy:

1) SMN uses Aerial Armor, Blinkras us all, waits 1min for timer.
2) While SMN's timer is counting down, we all use food and buff up. I as THF use Sneak Attack so the timer goes down for a second use.
3) WAR and I charge in, RNGs split off to the platforms on the sides, SMN and WHM stay on the platform near the exit. WAR vokes and uses Mighty Strikes as my SA lands. 1st anima used immediately.
4) SMN uses Fenrir and Astral Flows twice. At this point the Wreaker was at nearly half health, so 2nd anima is used.
5) At half health, both RNGs use Barrage. Only one RNG got off Eagle Eye Shot before the Wreaker died, though. XD

This strategy has also worked perfectly for the Dem BCNM. Will post if it works at Mea as well.

EDIT: Bring holy water and poison potions. I forgot to use my poison pot and actually slept through the second half of the battle. :P We won anyway through the uber power of my RNGs, but as this was our fourth attempt on Holla, you and your PT may not be so fortunate.

Just went head to head with this thing and words do not describe what a ******* he is. Even with two psychoanimas, he just sucked all our resources dry and we couldn't strike the fatal blow.

God I hope SE is toning these guys down a notch in the update like I think they are. Being doubled attacked for 60 damage then a WS right after for 140 is just absurd. (fully decked out paladin here)

About the absorb
# Dec 02 2004 at 12:17 PM Rating: Decent
He absorbs 3 status effects yes, and this can be used to your advantage, because he absorbs negative status effects as well, so you hit the tank with all the things you want the mob to have but can't get to stick. The only problem is you have to have these debuffs in poition/medicine form.

beat him with rng/nin, rng/nin, war/nin, nin/war, smn/whm, whm/blm.

Kited it around for the first 60% HP, had poison potions on after 50%. once it started going into its spam mode, we used a psychoanima and it sat there with the "Intimidated" message. This got off enough time to whittle down its HP some more, use another anima, and finally we 2hred it and it fell from the Eagle Eye Shots. In between animas it just loved to spam shadow spread though, and it used Trinary Absorption twice... I believe one hit for 250+ damage to our war tank.

the other parties were not so fortunate (we took 3) the biggest reason was inadequate preparation. Lack of ninja sub/utsusemi, lack of good armor, proper weapon, or just improper execution. If a party member is a melee that can't blink tank, things get ugly. Paladin is the only exception to that rule, but this only counts if he uses Invincible. If you get invited to this specific promyvion, make sure that you trust your party members... there are a lot of pick up groups for this that have no clue what they are doing.

Acid bolts seem to have little effect on him, Holy bolts work moderately well. He is slightly difficult to hit, and ranger weapon skills do very little damage to him. used utsusemi, bar- spells, mithkabobs, and won with HP and MP to spare.

The mob can move while casting astral flow... but see it like this; it has to stay within... about 12 feets from the Avatar, else it gets "out of range" and the Avatar's casting i cancelled... What we did: we had 1 Paladin; he goes Invincible when Astral flows begin and we get sure the SAmurai(me) and the Ragner fight in close ranger; this way, even if the mob gets hate on me or the ranger, it stays about on same spot.... so our 2 SMNs can Astral Frow without problem...
I hate Trinary Tap.^^

Our PT setup:

RNG/NIN
RNG/NIN
SMN/WHM
WHM/BLM
WAR/NIN
BLM/WHM

What we brought with us:

Holy water x12 for melee
Poison Potions x4 melee
Bubble Chocolate x4 for melee
Eye drops x4 for melee
Hi-potions x4-8 for melee; x1-3 for mages(just in case)
X-potions x1-3 for whoever feels like using them
Yagudo Drinks x4-6 for the mages
(Though we didn't bring them, mages should bring hi-ethers also)

Wreaker abilities:

AOE - Sleep
AOE - Curse
AOE - Blind
AOE - Damage
Single - Trinary Tap(your worst enemy) - takes 3 status effects or hp

How we won:

As soon as we got in, the SMN used Garuda and blinked us all. Each melee took off their protect and shell effects, used a poison potion, and ate a bubble chocolate. The removal of the protect and shell effects is to keep Trinary Tap from adding more defense to itself. The bubble chocolate is so Trinary Tap takes worthless status effects instead of hp.

The tank pulled the Wreaker to the far north of the area, the mages stayed near the entrance, and each RNG chose a side to attack from. BLM used mostly Water II/-ga spells. SMN backup healed until it was time for Astral Flow to be activated. We didn't throw out every possible damage dealing attack at the beginning, we plucked away at it until it had about 25-30% hp left. Making sure the tank held hate, the SMN used Astral Flow, each RNG used Eagle Eye Shot(and if it's still alive by that time when you try, SMN has time for another Astral Flow.) The point is to kill it with the 2 hours, because when it only has a sliver of life remaining, it SPAMS Trinary Tap and gains a good amount of its hp back from it.

Things to remember:

Melees: Don't use any food unless you're using Bubble Chocolate or other food with a useless effect in battle. (Bubble Chocolate is cheap, which is why we chose it.^^;)

Melees: Don't use any buffs like Shell or Protect.

Melees: Make sure you use another poison potion as soon as your current one wears off.

Tank: Don't let the Wreaker stay anywhere near the mages, pull it back to the north end of the area.

Tank: If you have a SMN in the group, don't move the Wreaker when the SMN is using Astral Flow.

I hope this has been helpful!^^;;

blizzard did all of 30 damage on him even with elemental seal.

He is weak to water. Please make a correction.

Water II hit for 138, waterga hit for 120. Nothing else would work at all.

And he is not part of the adamantos family. He is one of the "Thinkers" part of the empty family of mobs.

I don't really have time to test this "elemental Weakness" on these BCNMs...

but I do find -Ga works very well...
but MP cost too much!! so... don't go it too much!!!

It's possible you went on Firesday. Then the Fire would have owned your Ice spells, whereas Water would own the Fire. He is definitely wind based. I recommend going in on Iceday and trying Blizzaga

He changes elements each time, like most of the Empty mobs. Just, look in his core(s), and either have a tank/DD tell you, or just look for yourself.
On another note, this boss hits WAAAAAAAAAAAAy too hard. I've seen him regular hit for 300 dmg AND then proceed to Triple Attack (Yes, triple attack). I think he needs a tad bit of nerfing.
Best party in my experience

You can easily take this, or any other Promyvion BCNM, with this pt setup:
RNG/NIN
RNG/NIN
RNG/NIN
PLD/WAR
SMN/WHM
WHM/--

OK so I had the Ideal settup:
6 people:

War
War
Thf
Whm
Smn
Rng

All the melees had four X-Potions
Both Mages had 2 Hi- Ethers
All Melees had an Icarus Wings.

And we lost very quickly.

The problem:

War/Mnk
War/Nin
Thf/Nin
Rng/Thf
Whm/Blm
Smn/Whm

you'd be amazed at how much the subjob matters.
Our War/Mnk Homepointed on accident, and we went in with 5 people.

Second try we did pretty good, not great but good. We got it to 20%-25% health.

We would have won if the following had happened:

Didn't run out of Holy water.
No one was use to the X-Potion Timing.
Icarus Wing was wasted on the first fight.
The last Astral flow didn't go off because the Smn was out of range.

I will get it next time.
If you want to garuntee sucess:

Melee:
5 X-Potions each used when your HP is 150 from cap, saves the mages from getting aggro.
All subs NIN
Poison Potions x 4
Holy Water x 12
Icarus Wing
NO BUFFS!!!

Mages:
Hi-Ether x 3-4
X-Potion x 2-3(Just in case)

Total cost for a 6 man group: ~200,000g

Just an FYI... an astral flow dosen't cancel out if the SMN is "out of range". It canceled out if you have moved the mob. Which quite frankly blew all that SMN's mp for absolutely nothing since they still lose it all reguardless if it works or cancels, so hopefully you don't want that SMN being a healer after that.

One of the big strategies circulating around is that you kite these Prom bosses in order to win. So all it takes is one fool to yell "Ok SMN do your 2hr!" and then kite it around while the SMN is activating an astral flow... it will cancel out if the mob is moving and not held still!

In the case of this person above talking about their SMN. If the SMN were to be out of range to send the avatar any commands then they need to simply move closer to the avatar. Obviously if the Astral Flow canceled out the SMN in fact WAS range in the first place to give it that command. THEN someone basicly moved the mob thus the avatar going "<Shiva> well ****.. my as well cancel it since they are moving it and on that note I'll make my master lose all his/her MP reguardless and look like they have a gimp glitched job". lol ^.~

Type: Empty (Thinker)
Level: 30 (?)
Area: Spire of Holla (not Promyvion)
Notes: Uses AE Sleep, Curse and Blind. Also uses an AE damage attack. When low on HP, he frequently uses "Trinary Tap", which will absorb three status effects. If you do not have three status effects, he will absorb an absurd amount of HP.
