My friend discovered the hard way that these are indeed aggro, and they have an attack that causes weight. No idea if this is sight or sound aggro...

you can run behind them with sneak, but they are true site and will aggro if they turn and see you. Basically they are the same as Taurus, and empty (promy) mobs

lol...
Same here. My buddy and I were in/directing a linkshell CoP mission run and got our riverne site A01 access...he runs in ahead of me and says "ooh there are hippogriffs! I wonder if they aggro!"
It one or two hitted him...since he'd gone ahead of us we just sat back until it left.
In conclusion...yeah...don't poke the hippogriffs

These are sight aggro and true sight. In other words, they aggro you on sight and can see through invisible.

It doesn't matter what level they are; no matter what level YOU are, they will always con the same (what they can; if you are 40, they may con Tough, if you are 75, they may con Tough). The reason is that these are in Riverne - Site #A01, which is capped at level 40.

A gryphon (or griffin) is a mythological monster that has the head of an eagle and the body of a lion. The female of the species was also reputed to have the wings of an eagle, which is normally the image that comes to mind when someone is thinking of gryphons.

Gryphons were reputed to hate horses much in the same way that dogs are believed to hate cats. Virgil's Ecologues contained this phrase: `mate Gryphons with mares, and in the coming age shy deer and hounds together come to drink` -- basically an attempt to describe an impossible state of love and tranquility.

The hippogryph (or hippogriff) is a gryphon-horse hybrid. It was said to have the wings, head, and claws of a gryphon, but the legs and hindquarters of a horse. Hippogryphs were extremely rare, as a mating between enemies was not a common event. ^^ (Isn't mythology fun?)

The third Harry Potter movie has a Hippogryph in it; he has a somewhat prominent role.

Lastly, the hippo- prefix denotes 'horse' in Latin. (Hippopotamus is a "river horse".)

Griffons According to Mythology had the Head of an Eagle, the Body of a Lion, and from time to time the tails of either a serpent(dragon or snake) or a scorpion! It is reputed to have its origins somewhere in the middle-east, probably in proto-babylon. It is probably a Griffon that was the true animal that inspired the Greek Myth of Heracles' Labor in which he fought the Nemian(sp?) Lion. In more recent times Griffons have inspired the concept of the Gargoyle in Christian Architecture!

Hippogriff These magnificient mounts are very much like the Pegasus. only instead of being the product of a Medusa's death, the Hippogriff is the product of a sexual union between a Male Griffon and a Female Horse. This is always how a Hippogriff is produced no questions asked! These beasts feature prominently in Greek Myths, and are a symbol for love. They are depicted as being half Griffon (typically the front half), and half horse (typically the rear half).

Finally we come to the Cockatrice This animal is known by another name. The Basilisk... This abomination is always born from a yolkless egg on one of the days of the Dog Star of Sirius. Further this Egg can only be laid by a seven year old Rooster (yes that means it has to be laid by a male Bird ~.~ ). Finally this egg has to be hatched by a Toad! In other-words the Cockatrice has 1,000 % impossible birthing standards!

According to myth there are 2 main types of Cockatrice. The first burns everything that catches its glance (i.e. you have to look it in the eyes not the other way around!)... the second kills anything that looks it in the eyes instantly! Worse both species have breath so terrible that it instantly wilts vegetation and shatters stone! Most terrible of all, is that if you try to spear it to death the monsters poison will backlash through the spear and kill not just you but any living thing you happen to be touching in addition to the monster! Ultimately the only real way to kill this obomination without any repricusions is to get the thing to look at itself in a mirror, or mirror-like substance! This monster is very much related to the Medusa!

Fortunatelly the Weasel, and **** (another term for Rooster) are the Cockatrices two worst natural enemies! A weasel can inflict near fatal wounds to a Cockatrice, and is immune to the beasts poison! And a ***** Crow can instantly kill the abomination as long as it is within hearing distance of the bird!

Cockatrice drop light crystals.
While leveling off of Peryton's in Valley of Sorrows, they would drop light crystals on a regular basis.

But yeah... This doesn't look anything like a cockatrice.

This is not a cockatrice. It is a new mob family from what I can tell. The one i fought dropped a light crystal, not an earth crystal.
