General Information

  • Clicking on the ??? again after Bodach is defeated will reward the player(s) doing the quest the key item Annals of Truth.

Bodach Special Attacks

  • Hell Slash: Single target physical attack.

  • Blood Saber: AoE Drain effect. (Will hit any character in range, regardless if they are in your party/alliance or not)

  • Horror Cloud: Single target Slow effect.

  • Black Cloud: AoE Darkness based magic damage with additional Blind effect.

Historical Information

In Scottish legend, the Bodoch was the spirit, depicted as an old man wearing dark gray clothing. Like other spirits said to roam along the British Isles, the Bodoch was said to be able to fortell the death of family members, and had a tendency to kidnap children (in the Bodoch's case, it would sneak into houses to do so by climbing down chimneys).

Nin tank red mage healed and haste barely healing the tank I did song buffs. Was too easy I'd say

Now I have Asuran fist finally after reaching 75 Monk long time ago when I stopped playing :-)

Took 75 NIN/WAR, SAM/NIN, BLM/WHM and WHM/SMN to kill this skele. He went down pretty easily. We cleared out the pop room of leeches then popped him. He does hit hard, he does have high EVA and he attacks at a pretty decent speed (NIN kept Hojo on him).

Just fought this today for a LS buddy. We had MNK/NIN, BLM/WHM, BST/NIN(me). Basic plan is I would solo it while they watch and BLM/WHM would help with cures as needed.

Takes about 20 pets and 30 minutes just throwing leeches at it. The leeches don't hold hate well at all (often drew hate with Monomi: Ichi). I used leeches until CC timer was up then CC and snarl to drop hate off. He hits hard, about 270 a hit with normal charm gear and about 210 a hit with charm gear + tav. taco. I mostly didn't get hit much with shadows.

The MNK helped two times Chi Blasting to buy me time, although 1 of those wasn't necessary, not sure about the other one. BLM cured me for about 800HP and removed slow once.

There are leeches everywhere down there. A little hard to move around because so many leeches and they aggro (also link).

Do not underestimate this guy. He hits hard.

Pt Setup:
Whm/??? (I think rdm)
Blm/Rdm
Pld/Rdm
Rdm/Nin
Mnk/War

I was the mnk, and this was my fight... I died after about 20 seconds. The rest of the party took him down. Because I had read that he was simple, we underestimated him. The pld ended up kiting him around while the mages got MP to finish him off with a couple of spells. A win is a win, but just make sure you go in smart.

Soloed this on rdm/nin for a friend. Had my friend pop it, put gravity on it then we both sneaked up and made sure he followed us all the way to the entrace where the mobs are too weak to aggro. Slowly took it down with Bio2, Poison2 and FireIII while i kited it. Built resistance to gravity very quickly, at about 55% they would last only 4-5 seconds and i had to rely on bind and a little bit of blink tanking for the last 50%. Overall it's an easy solo for a skilled rdm soloer.
Duoable
# Sep 29 2007 at 4:23 PM Rating: Decent
Easily duoable by a RDM and NIN. I just killed the leeches in the room and the one in the tunnel, she popped it (the RDM) and we proceeded to kill it. I only got hit once with about +30 evasion on. I used my TP gear for most of the fight. I don't think you can land blind but slow (hojo) worked fine and she took care of paralyze.

It is very susceptible to paralyze.
Just killed it :D

Finally found some friends to help me kill this guy after unlocking the latent :D
I was pretty worried about the number of people i was supposed to get in order to kill him =/ "someone" told me it was hard because of AoE blind/drain and Slow.. well anyways..

Time to kill NM: 40-50sec.

Set Up: (way over kill i'm sorry...)
75 MNK/WAR (Over powered)
75 SMN/WHM (Elv.. >.>;)
75 RDM/DRK (Stun purpose initially...)
75 WHM/BLM x2 (1 was the MNK's alt other was my hubby)
75 BLM/WHM (Stun #2..i guess)
71 MNK/WAR (me/leech)

Happy Tarutaru: 1 (^-^v

PT member that watched the MNK's performance and did almost nothing: 5-6

Story: A friend 75 MNK/WAR with some really good gear (i.e. Abj. and God not sure which ones I didnt really had the time to check but he is one of the leaders of a really good HNMls so figures...) said he would help me ^-^ Ah-Hum. neways.. cleared the room which took him the time for me to the "???" room from NSandoria he was healing himself with his alt. Be sure to sneak after you pass through the door (before you go talk to the Elvaan next to the trap door thing) Had to wait for repops for the "just in case", we killed them really fast(con EP to DC to me I think). I popped the NM with Sneak, somehow didnt worked since it hitted me for 300sh DMG ;-;(i wasn't in yellow HP when i popped him), the MNK voked and started to beat him.. 10-20sec later he HF mob dies in..meh 30sec i'd say, SMN did something but not too sure what.. (effects+filters ftl) my RDM friend said he was able to put in a Stun in there and the WHM cured a bit (you big neb) BLM er.. idk.. filters ftl..maybe 2 nukes? probably whatever you can fit in 40-50 sec.. I was "fighting"/watching the mob's HP drop then die... checked the "???" again to get Key Item and Ta-daa! Off to Bastok i go and got my back flip yay~ ^-^

A big thank you to all the people that helped me(only intials to keep their intimacy ^-^;):
L. ze MNK for helping me when I had a hard time finding MNKs(;-;), N. ze SMN for helping someone he doesn't know, C. ze RDM for coming before his Dynamis and beeing a long time friend, Z. ze BLM for not LFG with his COR and helped me instead, S. ze WHM neb and C. ze other WHM for standing there and casting idk what spells (filters ftl).
Sorry if the post is so long and boring.. im just so happy to get it.../hides
P.S.: I lvld mnk for this WS! Rawr.

Today I tried to do this WSNM, shouted but not really that many wanted to join, as it was late..
Soooooooo.
I decided to SOLO him -_-
as SMN75/WHM37 of course.... (Carbi Kite) :D

I sneaked up, Buffed, then hit ???, and it poped, Carbi auto hit him as i ran away and watched from a distance. Carbi died and i resummoned and kept doing this until i moved him away from the Leeches to an area where all mobs are Too Weak...

Spent around an hour until i got him to 15% once that done, i had around 70% mp left. I summoned Titan and BloodPacted him to get him to 11%, and titan got him to 7%. Titan died, and I resummoned....
But... What happened?....
...
..
.

I switched my macro set while using Titan's Blood Pact, and this, now that Bodach it too close from me, its risky to summon any of the avatars, so I summoned the very first Spirit i clicked on... and was a ThunderSpirit

Now i'll be losing MP as a bish =/ I srsly was worried, So, I used Astral Flow for 0mp loss. But since I used Titan's BloodPact, I gained hate. and The Bodach didnt engage my spirit instead he kept following me!

I was praying that my spirit would try and get hate, but he was just standing there casting Burst as i kept running away. And you'll probably guess what happened later. I died. Unfortuntly, I lost my RR before death like 5 minutes only...

Bottom line: It's solable, takes time, but can be done. And try to stay on the same strategy. Don't change as u'll regret it sometime >.>

I'm just glad i'm laughing at myself right now instead of breaking things :D
Hope some of this info would help anyone. xD

Thanks for posting about two Beastmasters being able to pull it off. I saw Enikxi's post and headed down there with my duo partner after we finished working off my latents in Boyahda Tree. I got hate a few times and ended up in the red -- Bodach hits hard -- but we brought him down without dying and I got Asuran Fists.

I couldn't believe how many leeches were down there. It was like Beastmaster heaven.

Not very challenging as a BST duo. Stoneskin will make blood saber do 0 damage at 71BST...stay away from aggro.

Killed this guy with 2 level 66 Beastmasters.

Just throw leeches at him til he's dead. Stay out of AOE range.

Nothing but leeches down where he is so plenty of pets.

Can be solo'ed on rdm/nin.. fairly straight forward kite + DOT/nuke fight, takes around 30 min from pull to finish. I don't have crimson pants or special items, except a powder boot charge to get up stairs. It wasn't really necessary thought.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v326/GrumpyFF11/cca2cd60-3.jpg

I initially tested solo'ing it on smn/whm. Should be do'able via carby kite. But you could be in it for an unknown amount of time depending on how many blood sabers he uses. Obviously I didn't have this problem when kiting it on rdm. Also it's harder to make sure you don't get hate on your smn, while making sure you don't lose hate. I lost hate on it with smn/whm and by the time I tracked it, it regen'ed already so I gave up and went rdm.

Humor me, this might be a long story. I like to type too much, its a flaw.

I don't have a large LS. Well, that is an understatement, my LS usually has 2-3 people on if it is lucky due to it breaking apart into a HNMLS 2 years ago. Call me blindingly loyal, or stubborn, I'm still equipping the pearl.

So basically, no LS help for this. I don't like shouting over and over for people to help me build a party for the very singular Asuran Fist WS (as opposed to something like Decimation which several jobs will need) so instead, I opt to jokingly tell one of my friends to solo it for me. Anyway to cut to the chase, he rounds up some people he knows and we try to kill it with 4 people. I know we don't stand a chance, but a sliver of hope led me to go along with it.

I'll withhold names just in case, you never know how people are when it comes to posting about them...

Me (71 mnk)
sam 75
drk 75
rdm 75

As you can see, we were extremely light on healing magic which was the main reason we lost. The other obvious reason was no tank. Sharing hate and taking 300 damage a hit- ouch. We came close, dropped it well below 20% HP but in the end, not enough healing magic to go around, it all fell apart.

Anyway, a day later I decide to help a Drg who needed Impulse Drive with the hidden agenda that maybe hopefully the party can help me get Asuran Fists afterwards. Well, the Impulse Drive party exceeded 3 hours long (I won't get into detail why it took that long) and understandable, a few people were too tired to go on as it was past 2am at this point. I figured we definitely didn't have the right people to take on Bodach so I called it a night, but the whm who travelled back to Jeuno saw a shout going on for Asuran Fists NM and I had to jump at the opportunity.

Won with this setup:

71 mnk
75 mnk
75 whm
7? nin
7? rdm
73 bst

This time out, it was easy and none of us broke a sweat. Both monks did 2 hour at 50% but it was completely unnecessary and an overkill. I'd like to say it was fate that I joined the Drg for Impulse Drive, because if I didn't, I would have went off to watch a DVD or something.

Just took this big guy down Saturday night on Fairy with the setup:

71 mnk/war
71 mnk/war
71 mnk/war
71 mnk/thf
71 whm/blm
66 rdm/whm
75 blm/whm

We had no tank but we still won the fight with no deaths. We all started with chi blast (each hit 300-550), then popped our hundred fists, spammed raging fists, and pwned him in 82 seconds. However, this guy hit terribly hard on me for 350 dmg a pop. Also, this NM got high resistance to magic spells because Thunder IV only did over 500 dmg.

Power to the Monks!!

Well, as you can see, it was down in less than two minutes. Pretty easy fight. Hope it clears out some doubts about the amount of people to bring down here.

Remember when taking people to kill this NM, it's best to take as few as possible.. but those few should be Lv71+ or something about that. He's a NM skele, so his drain is much more powerful than just a regular mob skele type ( as if it's not enough as it is ) and one sucessful AoE drain could put him back up 100% from 30 or 40% >_<. So one PT would do fine.. PLD ( hits hard and one of effects takes shadows out ) and 2 melee fight him in the middle of the room, mages in the corners of the room to avoid the drain if he is to get one off.

Just my experiance, G'luck to you all!

I just completed this quest and have yet to stop with my fun new toy (Asuran Fists).

Anyway, here is my take on the whole thing.

I'm not sure if you can only get a points for ONE skillchain off a mob. Myself and a DRG friend (who had his Spear of Trials) subbed SAM and traded off starting and ending Light (Wheeling Thrust <---> Dragon Kick).

I kept the running tally, and at 300 points the latent effect didn't go off. A bit over 300 (at roughly 350 points) the Latent Effect went off on our Weapons. I might have been tired since it was very late but I'm pretty sure we went over 300.

Anyway, after doing this I traded the Knuckles of Trials and got the key items I needed.

The next day we went to Bostaunieux Oubliette (An alliance of 10 MIXED levels. Highest being 71 and lowest being 54!). We all used sneak to avoid agro. We got to the ??? with no problem, bar a few people losing sneak and getting leech agro.

After clearing the room of the leeches, (there's about 4 in the general area) we rested then popped the NM.

First and foremost, this guy doesn't play.

He hits VERY HARD and has some really good Evasion. I came into this with a big head thinking that it was bones and being a MNK this was falling right into the "things I can mess up np" category. You're in for a big surprise.

My 71 PLD Static member tanked him very well, considering how hard he hits for. The pain of doing this in an alliance is that his Blood Saber will almost totally heal him.. however I had a 65 DRK who was excellent with the Stuns.

When he does Black Cloud, make sure you have blindna cast on you quickly (or bring eye drops). With his high his natural Evasion seems to be, Blind is murder.

He has a LOT of HP, and takes a bit to go down.

My RDM Static member (71) died a tragic Convert Death, and the PLD tank died since the RDM was basically the main healer of the group.

However, the 54 NIN knew he couldn't tank this guy so he did the next best thing. Mijin Gakure. And guess what? The Skeleton went down.

I think only two 2 hrs were used here, myself and the other MNK didn't touch Hundred Fists.

Bodach isn't very easy, but with a strong group of friends who know how to play their job - even a level 54 can make an impact.

Cheers Imperium and (Monk) (Power)!

P.S. Asuran Fists is just awesome

Yup, this NM is for the Asuran Fist WS, after you have "skilled up" the Trail weapon.

In short, bring HEAVY firepower on this guy! HL PLD or NIN tank is a MUST! This bugger hits HARD! Cracked me for 350 a pop (lv 66 Galka Mnk), Dropped my friend's lv 75 Rdm/nin with a 600+ Hellslash, and was popping my friend's 71 Mnk (who we was helping him finish this quest) for about the same as me, and dropped the lv 75 Taru BLM in practically one shot (didn't see the dmg...it happened to fast -_-) Needless to say, it was a complete whip out...and yes all (but mine, I didn't bother since I was missing 90% of my punches and only landing for about 3-10 per hit anyhow...see my character gear setup...then ask yourself, WTH!!!) 2hrs was used!

Later that same night, we returned with a lv 75 PLD (wearing Adama and Keonig gear), lv 75 Brd (with Abj and relic on), lv 75 Rdm/blm (Crimson and AF), lv 61 Rdm/blm, lv 75 rng/nin (AF and Relic), lv 75 sam/rng (Af and Relic), lv 75 blm/whm, myself and my friend! Brd had to use 2hr, and after a long fight (about 10mins :-p), with countless Lv 3 "light" SC's with MB's...it dropped and my friend is now the proud owner of a shiny new Asuran Fist!!!

I won't lie to you, u BETTER come correct on this guy! Not to mention that this mob pop's in a room full of Bloodsuckers, so the room WILL need to be cleared to prevent links. This is not to be taken lightly by ANY means, considerign that this quest involves one of the monks LAST and highest lvl WS outside of Final Heaven...to say this is "HARD" is like saying "Air is necessary!" DO NOT let this mobs lv fool you, the example of the allience setup should give you a idea of how tough this mob really is! GL!

that's my pic... it was a high level nin and rdm who were fighting it. I was just there as bst exping up and stupid me stuck around to watch. Their tactic was to just utsu nuke it as much as possible, dia, zone to ronfaure (they dragged it back from where ever it spawns to the zone). Then come back once rested again and repeat. Didn't quite work out that way since the nin died and the rdm bailed. This thing is high level and very dangerous, as bst 55 (when i saw it) the mob hit me for over 500 damage so do be careful.

This NM is fairly new, and it is quite possible that the drop is rare. If there is a drop, allakhazam will most likely update this mob and it's description.
