Diabolos in Darkness Named

Diabolos in Waking Dreams

Common Traits

  • When initially aggroed, Diabolos will draw in everyone in the party of the player that aggroed him.

  • At random intervals during the course of the fight, certain tiles on the battlefield floor will drop down and disappear. Any player on one of those tiles at the time it falls will drop down and be attacked by the Diremite type mobs beneath the floor.

Diabolos Special Attacks

  • Drain - Single target HP absorption effect.

  • Aspir - Single target MP absorption effect.

  • Sleep II - Single target Sleep effect.

  • Sleepga - AoE Sleep effect (Circle of effect originates from spell target).

  • Bio II - Single target Darkness based DoT with additional Attack down effect.

  • Blind - Single target Accuracy down effect.

  • Camisado - Single target physical attack with an additional Knockback effect.

  • Somnolence - Single target Darkness based magic damage with an additional Weight effect.

  • Ultimate Terror - AoE Attribute Down effect (Circle of effect originates from mob).

    • The weakness to the target individuals will slowly decrease over time.

  • Noctoshield - Self target Phalanx effect (Effect can be dispelled).

  • Nightmare - AoE Sleep and Bio effects (Circle of effect originates from mob).

    • The DoT damage from the Bio effect will not wake you up from the Sleep effect.

  • Dream Shroud - Self target Magic Attack Boost and Magic Defense Boost (Effects can be dispelled).

    • The Diabolos from Darkness Named is incapable of performing Dream Shroud.

  • Nether Blast - Single target Darkness based magic attack.

    • The Diabolos from Darkness Named is incapable of performing Nether Blast.

  • Ruinous Omen - AoE Darkness based magic damage. Damage is equal to a random percentage of the HP of the targets. Denoted by the characteristic mob two-hour animation.

    • Diabolos will perform this once his HP drops to roughly 50%.

    • The Diabolos from Darkness Named is incapable of performing Ruinous Omen.

I had a CoP ls help me get all the way over here and i helped everyone get the grey stone. but when we went into the BC we had too many ppl. so they decide to go in. ( i was not included) it took them 3 times i think when they got it down. but by the time it was my turn i had to go to work ><. The next day no one shows up on the LS to help other than me and the ls leader.... next week the same thing happens.... then the NEXT WEEK the LS gets broken....
So i was so pissed that no one would help me i quite for about 6 months
after that i come bck and about 3 weeks into playing i see that someone is shouting to kill him.
We end up having a WHM,PLD,SAM/NIN,DRG/WHM,BLM,SMN (ME)
We go in and wipe (he does nightmare about 4-6 times before we even get to 50% -.-(so much for lights day!!))then we raise up and come up with a more organized stun patern (sam,pld,drg) we go in (now its darksday) and he does nightmare but sam meditated so that it would be sstunned and all the DD'S did there job of stunning with more success. I use Ramuh 2h 2 times at 50% and its at about 4% i'm thinking they will kill it so i dont use either pots... 3% now and the sam dies... ****!! i pop up the eithers as fast as i can and try to 2h again... he does Nightmare Ramuh and me are asleep and when it wears my 2h is gone so im panicking only to see that we already killed it lol
FINNALY DID IT!! now time to go get prime >< lol

i havent done the avatar battle yet but i assume this would work for it too. if ur drk sub rdm for fast cast and filter out everything but ur special actions, foes special actions, and npc special actions. i am wondering if daibolos counts as npc in this fight cause my 2nd time i was helping fight him, i had npc filtered too and couldnt see anything diabolos did. maybe a glitch i dont know. ive fought him 3 times with 2 tank 2 blms whm or smn and me as drk/rdm. he gets owned this way. except for that 1 time i couldnt c his actions in log, nightmare never landed once. this fight is actually not that bad at all and getting to him is really easy compared to promys and the rivernes. now this is just sussgestion if u want a really easy battle. good luck.
# Jan 07 2006 at 4:20 PM Rating: Decent
We did this last night, setup was:
Rng/Nin (me)

The Blm/Rdm pulled him using ES Thundaga III, once we were all drawn in, Rdm used Chainspell Stun and everyone just unleashed. His HP dropped super fast. I'm also a 75Whm/Smn and its so awesome having Nightmare. Being a Whm/Smn and having a pseudo-Sleepga rules.

Well, since I don't see a strat down on how to beat Diabolos for this, thought I'd post one.

In order to fight Diabolos uncapped, you must first beat him for Ch.3 of CoP, after that go to the Rhinostery in Windurst Waters and speak to Kerutoto. After that just head back the same way you got to him before.

Before you head there, it's best everyone has poison potions.

This uncapped version of Diabolos is MUCH harder than your previous battle with him, other than the abilites he had when you faced him in the level 40 cap, he has some new ones.

Nether Blast - Ranged attack that can cause massive DMG to the target (Did 600ish to my PLD)

Ruinous Omen - This is his 2H that takes down EVERY character's HP to a certain %

He seems to be able to cast Sleepaga II pretty fast sometimes, as well as aspir.

My PT when I did it was:

I really can't say much about this, since it's the same battle except the boss knows a few new tricks, but just remember to keep your cool and hope that he doesn't do what he did to me.

Diabolos readies Ruinous Omen
Corrderio takes 600ish damage
Diabolos readies Nightmare
Corrderio is asleep
Diabolos hits Corrderio for 75ish damage
Diabolos readies Nether Blast
Corrderio takes 600ish damage
Corrderio was defeated by Diabolos.

I never seen a mob play that cheap before ><
too weak

Well I must say the 40 version was easier than I thought.I read up on this guys and this PM and saw all kinds of horror stories and how much the need for DRK's and NIN's was stressed.All I can say is b**** please.My group went in with PLD-me DRG SMN SMN RNG MNK.only stun we had was shoulder tackle and leg sweep.I dont think the RNG got close enough to WS.I didnt see where the SMN's went but Im sure it was well out of the way.I kept Diablos focussed on me while DRG and MNK beat him like he stole somehting.The RNG firing like a well trained sniper and the SMN's each using Astral flow and unleashing unmatched furry upon him.Preperations in gear,supplies and a good strategy is important.My group also looked at ourselves as a military unit as mental preps.Not a bad idea.next week we'll finish the story line and get sea.
Summon-able Diabolos

Time for an update!!

Diabolos can now be obtained as a summon-able avatar through a quest* given by a Tarutaru* in Windurst Waters (Rhinostery, bottom left house).

You must have completed Chains of Promathia 3-5 "Darkness Named" which is the initial 40 cap Diabolos battle.

After completion of the mission ("Darkness Named" no longer appears in mission log; this requires you to view several CS'), speak to the Taru in Windurst Waters to initiate the quest, then travel back once more to The Shrouded Maw for an UNCAPPED Diabolos Battle in the same terrain.

Most people have found a party of 3 or more BLM's 70+ with Thundaga III, PLD, and whatever other job (I went with RDM/DRK for Chainspell Stun) completely blow away this sucka. However other combo's have worked as well. My only warning is that Diabolos is INCREDIBLY TOUGH on Summoner's. My 2-hour with Ifrit barely did 200 dmg >.> However SMN was 67, and Diabolos is weak to Thunder / Ice, which I learned after.

Once he is defeated you can return to the Taru in Windurst Waters for a reward (Weapon, Armor, Gil or pact). Exactly like other avatar battles.

NOTICE: ** NPC names, quest names and positions to follow as soon as I get online and find out.
Finally Beat
# Dec 14 2005 at 3:29 PM Rating: Decent
Had gone through as whm 8 times with alot of different configurations!
Finally beat this with following setup:
RDM (Silence) DRK (Stun) 2 NIN (me as one) BLM WHM
RDM was able to Silence 3/5 times and DRK was able to stun 2/4 Nightmares.
Won with no deaths

My Thought

I'm a noob when it comes to magic and Avatars, But when it comes to this fight, correct me if needed. Diabolos is a demon, right? and as a meely by trade would it be fair to say that using a 'SAM' and/or 'Demon-Killer' affect items and food would help? Also being a 'Darkness/enfeebling' Avatar, would it make sense to use just the opposite help even more? Again I'm a meely by trade, not a magic Guru like some people.

- Thanks

I am thinking?

if they let us have Diablos, i wonde rif theyll let us get Pheonix, then since the pheonix is all about resurections, and Bahumet dies at end of Promy's im think that if u get diablos and Pheonix, that u can get Bahumet too, if u could ud have to be lik lvl 75 SMN, and have all avatars + fenrir and like all the avy's do sumthing that resurects bahumet and u fight him for the capability to csumon him....

then i think ever job will want SMN as a sub...
lol have a party of 6 smns, sumon with bahumet all tanking it lol

Dude.. honestly... learn some sentence structure. People like this blow my mind that they've had the intelligence to get past the initial FFXI load up game registration process. lol Nothing you said made any sense and all of it isn't even true since I've completely beaten CoP. Plus why are you even attempting to give away spoilers, that's just so wrong and why I hardly read these forums because so many nubs on here reply and spread vasts amounts of misinformation.

strategy guide
# Dec 07 2005 at 8:33 PM Rating: Decent
Tips for beating Diabolos:

1. Bring lots of hi potions, yagudo drinks, ethers, etc.

2. Position yourself on the correct tiles

3. Don't bring a WHM who is a oversensitive little baby that when they use one Yagudo drink they quit the fight.

4. Have a summoner that will
a. Inform you when their 2 hour is up
b. Will actually use it instead of "getting confuzzled" and "pressing the wrong button" as mine did instead of using it.

5. Have a leader that wont call the WHM a "worthless sack of s###" after the fight thereby further turning the oversensitive WHM into a worthless baby.

Don't you just love random pick up parties in Jeuno? Which brings me to tip#6-

6. Do this with your Linkshell.
Max MP gear

Seeing as this has sumthing to do with summoner, i have made a list of gear that gives u the most mp! all this gear leaves a level 75 summoner with......244 HP! and 1745 MP!!

Tarutaru SMN/WHM

HP: 704 = 244
MP: 1028 = 1745
30to30 = Astral shield
30to30 = Askelpios (club)
12mp = mantra coin
55to55 = Z+1 (head)
50mp = Republic medal (Neck)
30mp = Zedoma’s earring
25to25 = Astral earring
55to55 =Z+1 (body)
55to55 = Z+1 (hands)
55to55 = Z+1 (legs)
55to55 = Z+1 (feet)
50to50 = Serket ring
50to50 = Vivian ring
32mp = cape
48mp = belt
85mp = food

SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!! A 75 SUMMONER WITH 1745~ MP?!?!?!?!

And 244 health....
RE: Max MP gear
# Dec 16 2005 at 11:56 AM Rating: Decent
Thats great except for two problems.....

1)Hedgehog bomb adds 30 mp where as the Mantra coin only adds 12.

2)Zedoma's earring is Galka only, so a taru smn wouldn't be able to use it.

Reading through the FFXI story and in the middle of this huge story talks about diabolos.

"Diabolos is the terrestrial avatar of dreams"

"one of 5 powerful gods born of Vana'diel. Many eons ago, the 5 avatars fought a fierce battle against an evil pressence that attempted to envelop Vana'diel. Along with Diabolos was Phoenix, the bird of ressurection; Fenrir, the hound of the moon; Carbuncle, the keeper of the world; and Bahamut, Lord of the Skys."

After what I have heard from people and info that has come out. I expect you will be able to quest this guy and phoenix as avatars after the october patch. Two areas you still cant access in sea now are the possible Cloister of shadows and Cloister of radiance where you could get these avatars. Who knows though...we shall find out soon.

Please note that this is not the best strategy but it's an insight towards an alternative.

Here's our strat:
NIN tank: Does the voking and hand to hand battle
NIN ranged: Threw shurukens and ninjitsu such as kurayami and hojo
BLM: Elemental Seal Silence, Blind, Dia, Bio2, Rasp, Drown, then nuke. I did great damage using Fire 2 even on Darksday.
WHMs: Make sure both WHM have Erase. This is the most crucial part because Diabolos Bioga effect is nasty and can wear off almost 30HP a tick. Aside from that, just keep curing and try not to get hate.
SMN: Before the party drops down to the battle field, launch Diamond Dust to deal the initial damage. After that just backup cure as much as possible.

We were extremely lucky because our winning battle did not include the SMN 2hr as it was used in our first defeat. Mages bring at least 4 Hi-Ethers and it's recommended that the BLM help heal the WHMs while the WHMs heal the others to balance hate. Use Manafont after the tiles start to fall and just go haywire with nukes. I casted Fire2, Thundaga, Blizzaga, Water2, repeat until it wore off. Use every drop of MP you have and cure every drop of HP that's gone.

Good luck.

Diabolos is a monster you fight not an avatar. if he was an avatar im sure that some JP would have obtained him by now and we would see him all the time. the pic says garuda yes. All thats happened is they got the diabolos model in model viewer then put it on the battlefield screenshot. simple. if you look at the diabolos it looks smoother than the rest of the picture. its plain to see really.

Correction: Diabolos is a Terrestrial Avatar, this however, does not mean that a pact can be formed with him.
RE: Correction
# Jul 06 2005 at 1:12 PM Rating: Decent

Yes, but we can dream, right? it is proabably going to be some update in the far future. I can defend my point against your arguement by stating that both Crabuncle and Fenrir are both terrestrial avatars who helped create the universe as well. Chances are though, this is going to be like Phalanx II. Auto-Collect scroll.
# May 13 2005 at 12:25 PM Rating: Decent
Yay, the change went through... avatar. And, no, it really should not form a pact with summoners at this point. If you played through the story, you'd know this guy is not about to help a hume, elvaan, mithra, tarutaru or galka, as you have a darastically opposing viewpoint on what to do about emptiness, and the keeper of the apoclypse etc.
